What a GEM!! 2 miles off I95 in an unassuming strip. Best fried fish, oysters, scallops, crispy, lightly battered and salted and over the top deviled crabs I've had in a long time. Cooked perfectly, crispy (not greasy) and tender (moist). The service was very good and the place was well kept and clean (the bathrooms could do with an update, needs a baby changing table). I was in Dunn to take care of some business and saw this place and didn't expect much. It is located in a strip mall and in a rather unremarkable location. The interior could stand a facelift. The food is mostly seafood if not all seafood. Do one thing and do it right. And they do! Lightly breaded and not overcooked or over salted. Even the coleslaw was to my liking, not sweet nor loaded full of mustard. Try the squash fritters. Clean and very crowded we ordered and we're not asked how we wanted things cooked. I also asked for a taste of the potato salad and they just put it on as one of my sides. I have been wanting to try this place for awhile now, and I'm so happy I finally did today. Jim's Seafood is located in a little strip mall near downtown Dunn, and you can dine in or grab carryout. I wanted to try a little bit of everything, so I ordered Jim's Sampler platter with trout, shrimp, scallops, oysters and deviled crab. This meal also came with hush puppies and 2 sides. I ordered the coleslaw and squash fritters. Man alive, this is a lot of food!! LOL!!! But, I wanted to try everything, and pretend like I was on Diners, Drive Ins and Dives; so I attempted to conquer this mountain of fried food. The batter is very light and not overly seasoned, which I loved. I ate all of the shrimp, scallops and deviled crab, some of the trout, but I could barely eat anything else. Seriously, this is a ton of food for only $13.99!! I tasted the coleslaw, fritters and hush puppies, and everything was amazing. I unfortunately, did not get to try the oysters (but I'm not a huge fan of those things anyways). I will definitely be back, but I will order something smaller. The quality has gone down with these orders over the last 3 months. We usually order once a month the family packs because who doesn't love a good Fish Fry-Day. I know with rising costs things have to change but we literally paid $3.99 for that side of shrimp. It's normally busting at the seams but I suppose this is no longer the case. Shredded carrots, zucchini, yellow squash mixed into "chips"" battered and fried. Yum! Their slaw is made with green pepper, cabbage and sweetness. Different from others around. Side choices are typical, boiled potatoes, fries, green beans, potato salad, black eyed peas. Today, apple sauce was offered as well. A side of hush puppies came with the meal. I stopped at this location as recommended by a local while in town. ​Upon arrival, the place was clean and friendly right from the very start of entry at the front door. Fresh hot hushpuppies with butter appeared on the table along with sweet tea that would make other restaurants envy. We ordered the shrimp dinner with coleslaw, squash fritters, and potato salad. I was forewarned that the cole slaw has a mustard style taste. However, the flavor as on par and delicious. The squash fritters were one of the best I have ever tasted! I had the two fish combo platter. I chose flounder and shrimp and the portion size was huge. Two big flounder filets and prob 25 medium shrimp. All fried to perfection. I'll start from the very moment we walked in. The waitress/host directed us to sit at a table, and came right over to take our drink orders. She got them quickly, while also serving another table and answering the (very busy) phone. Our orders were taken and in the kitchen with exemplary efficiency. Throughout the meal, she checked on us regularly and kept our drinks topped off. Moving on to the food, this is where Jim's shines. The first example of their fare that I tasted was their fried hushpuppies, which are offered as an appetizer. The hushpuppies were rich and very fulfilling, and had a slight sweetness that balanced the flavor perfectly; speaking as a Southerner with our traditional love of all things cornbread, I am proud to say that Jim's offers the best hushpuppies I've ever tasted. When the main course arrived, I was very pleased with the serving sizes and presentation of both my fried whiting and sides of French fries and black-eyed peas. The fish was perfected textured, being neither undercooked nor mushy, and both the fries and peas were also more than satisfactory. Stay away from the oysters. Family of 5. Horrible. The food was decent. Crab legs were way overcooked. The other food was like leftovers. However I decided to be the only one to try the oysters. A day and a half later I'm in the Hospital laid up with food poisoning. Fantastic!! We were in town racing at Galot raceway, and looked at Yelp to see what was good in the area. This place is awesome. We got carry-out, and when I arrived there was a line waiting to eat in the dining room. The staff was friendly, and the seafood platter was amazing! Huge amount of food, tasted great, and very reasonably priced. We live in the Washington DC area, and a seafood platter like this would be triple the price back home.
