I've been a fan of the wings at the Moonrunners in Garner for a decade. I was excited when they opened this location. I like to visit Black River Tobacco Company about once a month and get food either before or after having a cigar. The nice thing is they are open late enough here to get a bite afterwards even as late as 930p. I'll start off with what's good...obviously the wings, that's almost my go to every time. The pork belly on a stick is a knockout! Honestly, you could order toast or a bun, cut these in half and put them on and it would make a legendary sandwich. It's extremely difficult to find good onion rings anymore. Most of them are GFS or Sysco pre-made crap in most restaurants. Here they are beer battered and made from scratch and fried until nice and crispy. Ask for ranch as a side. I would get these over the fries every time I go. I think the best thing on the menu is the Brisket bomb grilled cheese...OMG it is insane. It's freshly smoked brisket, pimento cheese, caramelized onions on Texas toast....bro....pair this with the onion rings and you got a 5 star meal for under $20. Now the one thing I wouldn't order here...steak. This is not a steakhouse. Not in the slightest. I would put it not he same level as Cracker Barrel or Waffle House in the this category. Think cut steaks that seem to be of select grade...just no. Don't do it. Go to Texas Roadhouse or somewhere that specializes in steaks. They're kind of pricy here at $37 for a ribeye...you can get a fat hand cut one that's almost a couple pounds at TR for that price....just pass on steak and stick to the BBQ or burgers. A lot of the sharable are good. Haven't tried the salads. Drinks are decently priced and well made. The vibe of this one is a lot different than Garner. Here it's more "clean new restaurant with a country style" vs "Dive bar that was rescued" in Garner. Pro Tip: If you're leaving Raleigh headed down 95 after work, it's easy access off the highway after you get out of Raleigh traffic and want to stop. They are fast here as well so it's a good quick meal. read more

Took a little road trip thanks to a recommendation from my dad's pool guy -- because obviously that's where all great culinary wisdom comes from. Moonrunners is a surprisingly nice spot inside. It was on Bar Rescue but I think the one that was made over is their original. I think this is their second spot. Clean, sharp, and way more polished than you'd expect from a bar that proudly serves moonshine flights. The menu is huge -- classic pub fare with a Southern lean. The ribs were a little dry, but the sauce came in like a hero with a cape. The club sandwich? Really good. The kind of sandwich that makes you pause mid‑bite and go, "Okay, I see you." And yes, I tried the moonshine flight. The peanut butter cup flavor shouldn't work, but it does -- like dessert that decided to join a biker gang. Overall: solid food, great drinks, and worth the detour inspired by a man who cleans pools for a living. read more

My son and I went to lunch on a Saturday. Nobody else was in the bar area so we sat there. He ordered a corned beef sandwich and so did I. There was barely any meat on it, no thousand Island dressing it's described on the menu, and a few shreds of sauerkraut. My son said his tasted ok. I felt mine didn't even taste OK. It was tasteless and the meat was gritty. After eating, 1/4 of my sandwich, I told my son go ahead and take the other half. His words after his first bite was "Oh this doesn't even taste half as good as what I had." The waitress was attentive, friendly, and pleasant. I really wasn't sure what to expect we were passing through and decided to grab dinner, I had a great steak sandwich and my wife got a cheeseburger. We both really enjoyed our meals, the fries and chips were both delicious... and we had a very pleasant waitress. This is a great addition to the area with some good food and unique drinks. My faves are the shrimp and crab dip, the lemon pepper wings, and nachos. I really enjoyed the moon shine flights and the Moscow mule drink made with passionfruit moonshine. The service has always been top notch and the bartenders are friendly and accommodating. Overly friendly but inept waiter. Fired food before drinks arrived, didn't ask for type of spirit to be used in one of their house cocktails, didn't know the proof of the moonshine cocktails nor the amount of moonshine in the specialty moonshine cocktails. Food was tasty but not hot, coarse salt in normal salt shakers would not shake out onto Onion rings. But the worst was being told that it was "Ok that I probably wouldn't come back. So far my boyfriend and I have gone here twice and will go again. When we first went (lunch) we were seated right away. I had the portobello burger with fries and I tried one of their new ciders which resulted in an allergic reaction but was still very tasty. The second time we went (dinner) we sat at the bar to avoid a wait. I had a cheesesteak with onion rings. The cheesesteak was very good. The onion rings were okay. The batter they used wasn't what I expected. My boyfriend always gets the double decker club at any restaurant we go to because as he says, " it's a club, you can't mess it up." Great atmosphere. First time there, as Dunn residents we were glad to have another restaurant. Nice evening, clean open space, a bit of a " chain" feel, commercial, but comfortable. Service prompt and attentive. Very clean and attractive interior. My fries were excellent! However, our server seemed unsure of the menu. First, she didn't seem familiar with the wine my date ordered. When my date asked if they had garlic bread, the waitress responded: "Uuh, I don't think so. If we do they'd have to make it." Gee, really? Isn't that the case with pretty much everything on the menu? (They have garlic bread!) Also, the belly Mac my date ordered wasn't very cheesy, and my brisket sandwich was dry. Absolutely amazing food and service. Husband ordered a Red Oak beer. It was cold and came within 2 minutes of ordering. The food was hot and tasted great! I got the boneless wings with the house made rub.....so good. The house made chips were good but do need some type of seasoning. My husband got the shrimp and grits. I loved everything about this restaurant. The decor depicting old vintage pictures from moonshiner's days was fun and interesting. We started off our dining experience with a warm friendly greeting by our waitress. Her service and funny personality were just as amazing as the food. The moonshine margarita I had made with mango habanero was sooooo good. They make their own sour mix (I guess that's what you call it) which made the drink taste so fresh and crisp. The food was just soooo delicious. Mom and I started with the fried brussel sprouts, best ever! Then I had the blackened salmon and bacon sandwich my mom had the shrimp and grits with pork belly. Mine was awesome, the salmon was perfectly cooked. My mom said the shrimp and grits were better than Charleston's! That's saying a lot because before today she always said nothing compares to Charleston's shrimp and grits. Then our wonderful waitress turned us onto a dessert that wasn't on the menu. Deep fried bread pudding folks. I mean come on what else could you hope for. It had a yummy scoop of vanilla on top and some kind of amazing sauce. Tonight was our first visit to this restaurant. We went in with high hopes and I can tell you, our hopes were exceeded. We have lived here for 9 years and this restaurant will be a regular for us. It exceeds the taste and quality of its local competitors. And it's wonderful to have a new restaurant in the area. Staff was great and helpful. Restaurant was clean and atmosphere was great. I almost never ask to have feedback given to the kitchen but I could not help myself. Our Nacho appetizer was delicious! The wife had the Bootlegger burger and I had the sirloin. The burger was cooked spot on to my preference. And the wife loved her burger. I strongly encourage anyone considering eating out in the area to give this place a shot. If they confuse to perform like they did tonight I doubt you will be disappointed. read more
