Persimmon drink from grapeholic - IG@BlackTigerEats
    Teason M.

Always a fun time eating here. So many options from rice bowls, appetizers, noodles, and boba. We got an iPad / used our phone to scan the QR code to order. We got the combo meal for ~$55 before tax. It comes with two noodle bowls, appetizer, side, 2 bobas from Grapeholic, and optional 2 desserts. They have at the register usually 3'basket of free fruit, you can only choose 1; apple or banana or an orange. Thanks!

I really liked this place! I got the clay pot rice and it did take 18 minutes for it to come out. I wish it did have more flavoring but thats okay! Plenty of meat but not enough rice. We came on a Tuesday so it wasn't crowded at all! We also got milk tea and a grapefruit fruit tea. The place is really well decorated and I really like the cow chairs. This place was more on the pricey side and my total came out to be 50 dollars for two people.

I've been here in 2023 and I was here again a few days ago. I really enjoy their variety of drinks and food out here. You can tell it's authentic by the number of Asian folks you see out here. I absolutely loved their mango sago tea - I've always had it as dessert and I really enjoyed it. I also got the katsu chicken noodles - the broth was spicy and flavorful. The quantity is very generous and honestly I could barely even finish half of what I got. Highly recommend this amazing spot for noodles and milk teas!

Stopped by for lunch and ordered a variety of things. We tried the beef noodle soup, clay pot rice, lamb cumin noodles, pork and shrimp dumplings, and cucumber appetizer. The beef noodle soup was too sweet for our liking, but the beef was pretty tender. The lamb biang biang noodle was our favorite dish across flavor and noodle texture. The clay pot rice was pretty small for the price, and the crispy rice at the bottom was a bit soggy. Given the atmosphere of Social Eatery, we were surprised that the food took a while to come out (20+ min for the first item). There's minimal service here since you order off a QR code or tablet. The interior has a decent amount of seating.

I've never tried Social Eatery and my guy has tried it once a while back and enjoyed their rib noodle soup, so we had lunch there today. It was quiet on a Thursday at 12:30 pm, so plentiful tables available for our choosing. Festive Halloween decor inside and out! Love the vibes of Social Eatery! The server gave us a tablet to place our order. ***OUR PICKS*** BEEF PLATE RIB, BIANG BIANG THICK NOODLES IN STRONG SPICY SOUP ~ the beef was so tender and not at all dry like some beef stew can be. The soup had the perfect spice and the thick noodles had a good chew. Yummy! 5/5 BEEF STEW AND TENDON WITH RAMEN NOODLES IN REGULAR NON SPICY SOUP ~ I added extra bok choy because I like extra vegetables. I enjoyed the texture of the ramen noodles, and the meat was SO GOOD and SOFT! I appreciated the option to order more vegetables. LOVED THIS! 5/5 MANGO POMELO SAGO ~ Less sugar and less ice. Not too sweet and pretty filling. No complaints! Very nice drink to end the meal. 5/5 OSMANTHUS SLUSH ~ from the first sip to the last drop, I fell hard for this drink! Osmanthus flavor is interesting and it's not a usual flavor that you'd typically see at a boba shop. I was thoroughly satisfied with this drink! Whipped cream and osmanthus jelly made it even more special. Definitely will order this again! 5/5 SO happy that I finally tried this spot! I'd like to add this to our rotation list. It exceeded my expectations! Can't wait to try other things on the menu too. We'll be back!

Ambiance is nice, Servers are friendly, this is my first time here, I got a Creme Caramel with Boba, waited about 15 minutes for one drink. I don't know about the other drink flavors, but this one was NOT worth the wait. It was warm and bitter. I didn't even finish the drink and would not order this drink again, maybe I will come back to try something else next time ‍

Cool place to hangout with a group or just meetup with someone one on one Booth seatings fit no more than 6. Can get communal tables for larger groups Order on iPad then pay when done The black sesame milk boba was great, I like the black sesame taste a lot. Well done At night there was relaxing jazz background music and it was so delightful and soothing. Made for a very cute date

Sis chose this place for her birthday dinner. We ordered the Special for 2 which comes with a choice of 2 entrees, 2 appetizers, 2 drinks, and 2 fruit. We went with the: 1) Beef stew with biang biang noodles - kiddos liked the beef and the noodles were chewy. 2) Clay pot rice with pork hash - liked the crispy rice 3) Fries and popcorn chicken - both arrived hot and crispy Tried the Pure Grape drink which was refreshing. We also added on the pepper beef dumplings and the pork and vegetable dumplings. Didn't realize it would be served in soup. The beef ones had good flavor but were quite peppery. The pork ones were flavorful, too. Ended our meals with plates of sliced orange - sweet. Good amount of food for the 5 of us to share.

Such a cute place! Loved the idea of 3 different brands and they were all so yummy. The grape boba wasn't my thing, but the noodles (thin and thick) and rice bowls were phenomenal! Service was okay, they didn't explain anything or talk much to us, but still efficient!

Social Eatery is a cute and causal place to go if you wanna grab a meal. Their menu is extensive, claypot rice, soups, noodles, and boba. You order everything via phone or they will provide you a tablet for ordering. Everything is pretty efficient. I went on a Sunday afternoon and there was no wait. Pickled Veggies Sliced Beef with Rice Noodles: 5/5 LOADED with sliced beef and abundant amount of toppings. The portion was huge. Savory broth with a little kick! Chicken & Mushroom Claypot Rice w/ Chinese Sausage: 4/5 Honestly it was alright. Its missing ginger. Rice tasted normal, nothing special. I feel like the chicken was under seasoned. Cumin Lamb Pancake: 3/5 There were a lot of onions in this dish, the bread was dry, and the lamb could have been seasoned more.

Craving that authentic Chinese clay pot rice or handpulled noodles? Well, Social Eatery is the place to go to. This place offers delicious baked rice and noodles that rifle some of the best restaurants in the Bay Area. They also offer boba and fresh fruit drinks. The service was great too, we were greated and seated immediately upon arriving. Ordering was very simple. You can scan the bar code and order from your phone or order directly from the tablet they give you. The restaurant is kept very clean, no sticky floors or dirty tables. The workers make sure the floors are swept and tables are cleared and cleaned immediately for the next customer. If you're looking for some great tasting Asian food, you must give Social Eatery a try.

Clay pot rice and fried chicken appetizer

One-stop shop, this is Social Eatery! It is indeed social with quite a few people enjoying and dining even in the late afternoon as we were there for an early dinner. Then it got busier and busier. The noodles were good, the clay pot rice was good, but the drinks........ were super surprisingly (commercial break) ....... good!! Who knew that a grape drink would be so good?! Well, they did, and yep, we are planning to go back for it. Their set meal deal was also good! The wood ear appetizer was really good - highly recommended - and just another type of edible mushroom-like thing.

We went around 5 PM on a Tuesday, and it was nice and quiet, so we were seated right away. We started with the teppanji and then ordered the katsu curry and karaage curry. The curry was rich, flavorful, and honestly reminded us of our trip to Japan. Portions were generous, and I liked that you can customize with extra meat, veggies, or even add an egg. The real standout, though, was the teppanji chicken--it was so good that we'd come back just for that alone. Overall, great food, good service, and a clean space. Definitely a spot we'll be returning to!

Japanese Curry, a sweet and mild curry, is very different from Indian and Chinese/Thai curry. Usually served w/crispy Tonkatsu and a cabbage salad, it can be hard to find. Finding good Japanese curry can be just as difficult. CHB satisfies on the Japanese curry savoriness front. While it's nothing fancy (that extends to their decor), it is housemade and delicious. Waitstaff was brisk and courteous. Was advised to not order more than what I had...he was right. Had leftovers to take home! Ordered the signature ORIGINAL KATSU CURRY w/pork. Other option is chicken. Steamed rice in a Japanese eatery is always top notch, always perfect and generous in portion here. The Tonkatsu was crispy but a tad short of tender, but tasty enough to dip in the accompanying Japanese curry sauce. I might ask for the curry sauce on the side next time. Cabbage salad, traditionally a huge portion was a small offering cushioning the Tonkatsu. Accompanied by a small scoop of house made potato salad and pickled veggies. The hot Tonkatsu, steamed rice and Japanese curry sauce was a great combo for me, a very filling and satisfying meal! CH offers a tabletop varied selection of chili peppers: Pequin, Wiri Wiri, Ichimi, Jalapẽno, Orange Habanero. I did a light sprinkling of the traditional Japanese Ichimi pepper to add a touch of heat and that was fine. Signature ORIGINAL KATSU CURRY was a great start to this menu tasting. I'll be back to try their DOUBLE MENCHI CURRY, KARAAGE CURRY, ASSORTED VEGGIE CURRY, KATSU CURRY UDON. CURRY HYUGA BURLINGAME is also one of the few places that has Omurice on its menu. A Japanese omelet w/rice or noodles inside. Their version is HAYASHI OM-RICE. I will definitely be back to try this! See you there!

Buri buri is unique to most restaurants and sushi spots in the Bay Area because of how they serve their sushi boxes. This is a grab-and-go place where you can get any pre-prepared bowls and sides, but you can also customize a box of your choice of nigiri, sushi rolls, yuba, and more. You just need to line up, and the workers there will go down the line and stock up your box for you with your selection. The inside is nice and inviting, but they do not have any seating inside, and when I went, there were only 2 tables outside. With the small selection I made (5 pieces) it came out to $14 which was not bad at all! I would say when it comes to quality, do not expect a Michelin star-level bites where the fish melts in your mouth, but expect a meal that satisfies a craving. The worker there recommended the torched salmon nigiri and the salmon yubu and I did end up really liking it. I would definitely come back again to try their other items.

This is actually a Japanese kaiseki style restaurant. Reservations are highly recommended as they do not take Walk-ins. There's two seatings for this restaurant so arrive promptly as they serve everyone at the same time . We started with the amuse bouche which was the kobachi three way. The three ways they served this was very unique. It was prepared with one steamed, one in soup and one fried. All were delicious! Next was the sashimi and it was also served with three different fishes. They did serve it with crostinis which was really good with the olive oil. We got the simmered yellowtail collar and the Toro skewers next. The yellowtail collar did have a lot of bones so I won't recommend this for older folks. It was very tender but a little on a salty side. I did like how it came out eggplants. The Toro skewers were also very tender but that wasn't my main dish. My friend enjoyed it very much. The dungeness crab chawanmushi was by far my favorite. It has a streamed egg and crab meat. They didn't skimp out on this dish it had a lot of crab in it. My next favorite dish was the kaki-age donburi which was a scallop and shrimp tempura. It was dust with a green tea sea salt I think. I wasn't able to eat it with the soup and I definitely wasn't able to eat it with the rice. By this dish I was already full. We also had the soju flight which was originally three flights but we added a fourth one . We got the yuzu. Lemon, strawberry and grapefruit orange. They were all good but the yuzu is the main winner! Since it was my bday , they turned off all the hours of the restaurant and everyone sang happy birthday to me. It was a little embarrassing but it added a little special touch. This was one of the best experience I've ever had at a Japanese kaiseki restaurants. The servers were so attentive. The food was creative and you can tell they spent a lot of time perfecting everything. They do change the menu every season so I'm excited to try their next menu when I come back.

Fast forward, it's Mom's Day, kids having meals on their own as parents, our celebration is to go somewhere good to have a meal, no lines (didn't make a res), kinda spontaneous. Hanabi fits the bill. Ordered the pork belly ramen ( looked really good at a neighboring table) and the Mayu-ramen, spicy, with kfc chicken (not what you think, means something else), both with a miso base. Wait was reasonable, time to get a table was 30 seconds tops. Other nights it's been jammed but not Mom's Day, just quiet, enjoyable. Both meals were spectacularly reasonable, serving what you'd want, with enough of everything to want to dive in because you were pretty assured you were going to be satisfied. Not fru-fru or bougie, ingredients that make the dish memorable yet feel you are knowledgeable and appreciated. Pork belly was soft, fatty yet lean, cooked well enough to be tender, yet with a little chew (not disintegrating like some bellies), lots of noodles al dente so you appreciate the noodle was not a mushy mass in the bowl like some places. The Mayu came with 3 drumsticks burning hot from the fryer but oh so good because it's served in a separate dish so it doesn't get soggy. The spicy is good enough to keep things interesting with losing its identity (unlike a lot of places). And they give plenty of ramen because it's that good. We keep coming back because they serve no-frills, you-can-bank-on-it ramen that is satisfying, consistent; staff is friendly without being overbearing. It's not a big place, tables and a counter, but they know how to keep diners happy and coming back for more. What more can you ask for? Thanks, Hanabi, will definitely be back!

STOP DELETING MY REVIEW. Every word here is my own statement, my own experience at this restaurant…read more I went there for lunch on May 7th, this is what happened. This restaurant has been the one of our family's favorite places until what I experienced today. Because we enjoy the food there, we were putting up with the poor service from one of the waitresses. However, what we went through today was so terrible that I couldn't help but decide to put it into writing. I met up with a friend and came here for lunch. We placed our orders, our food arrived, and we started enjoying it. The waitress's constant hovering around us had started to get on our nerves. She kept clearing things from the table; when she even took our unfinished food without asking, we asked her to bring it back. She reluctantly brought it back and walked away. When we called her back to order drinks this time, she reacted harshly, saying the kitchen was already closed, turned her back, and tried to leave; but when we mentioned drinks, she came back with an unhappy expression and reluctantly took our order. We were really bummed out. We hurriedly finished our meal while sipping our drinks. Suddenly, she snapped at us and grumbled that we had to leave. While we couldn't believe what we were hearing, she was kicking us out. As we paid the bill, she pointed to the camera on the wall and explained how the shop owner had watched her through that camera, ordered her to usher the customer out in time, lock the door, and clear the shop. On previous visits, the same waitress kept urging us to eat quickly and leave even though there was still plenty of time before closing. For that reason, I absolutely refuse to accept her attempt to use closing time as an excuse to cover up her terrible service. Besides, if what she say is true, I won't set foot in a business run by an owner who treats his/her staff with a Gestapo mentality. We were already upset, and she was still going on and on, grinning smugly. My friend couldn't take it anymore and said exactly this: "We are regulars here. You've made it hard for us to enjoy our food. We came here willingly, paid our money, and you kicked us out--that's not funny at all, and yet you're grinning as if nothing happened. This is unacceptable." I added, "I'll never come back" and we left. She closed the door on time. I've run my own restaurant for years and dealt with some tough customers, but I've never treated anyone like that. And I won't tolerate anyone else doing it either. No matter how delicious the food is, it all comes down to how you're treated, welcomed and served. I'm sorry, and I felt the need to share this.
