I've noticed that, depending on the location, Ume Tea can be hit or miss. Compared to the original Cupertino location, this one is a bit of a miss, unless you're stopping by purely for the convenience. DRINKS: 7/10 I usually order the Champaca Milk Tea with added mochi since it's the closest thing they have to a jasmine milk tea. There's nothing inherently wrong with their drinks, but I find them a little underwhelming, especially with so many great boba spots around now. Personally, I'd rather go to TP Tea across the street. One thing I do appreciate is that they frequently have BOGO promotions and anniversary specials. We happened to stop by without realizing they were celebrating their 7th anniversary, and they gave us a cute little figurine for free, which was a fun surprise. SERVICE: 8/10 You order through the self-service kiosks, so the process is quick and straightforward. Definitely more of an in-and-out kind of place. AMBIANCE: 8/10 The shop is very cute and pink! I loved the display of figurines and merchandise, and their pink bunny mascot is all over the store, which adds a fun touch. I decided to try this place based on a friend's recommendation. When I arrived, the line was relatively short, so I expected my drink to be prepared fairly quickly. However, I ended up waiting more than 20 minutes for my order, while several customers who ordered after me received their drinks before I did. The experience left me feeling that some customers may have been prioritized over others. As a non-Mandarin speaker, I felt my order was overlooked and received little attention. By the time I finally received my drink, much of the ice had already melted. In addition, the prices were higher than those at TP Tea across the street. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this shop, particularly if you do not speak the language commonly used by the staff. read more

First time trying Ume Tea and I'm unfortunately not a fan. This location is very small and cramped (also a little hot inside), so it's more of a grab and go boba spot. You order off a kiosk (and they charge you 35¢ to use it). Our boba took about 15 minutes to come out. I ordered the Mandarin Iced Tea ($8), and I honestly wouldn't get it again. I didn't enjoy the flavor, and it's hard to explain, but it tasted like a candle scent. The theme of the shop is cute (cute mascot), but I probably will try another spot next time instead. read more

The matcha drinks here are super decadent and sweet. My mom picked me up a Uji Matcha boba with 50% sweet - and wow was it delicious. It comes with boba in a sweet brown sugar syrup, whole milk, and then a scoop of matcha ice cream on top. The packaging is so cut! I didn't mind waiting because there was a line, but my drink had apparently been sitting on the pickup counter the whole time without being marked as ready in the app. When I finally asked about it, I told the staff I had been waiting and that the drink had been sitting there for a while. They apologized, but that was it. By the time I received it, it was lukewarm and all the ice had melted. Mistakes happen, but it was disappointing that the drink wasn't remade or that the order wasn't marked as ready when it was prepared. Overall, it wasn't the best pickup experience. read more

Their tea was nice and floral, although I would guess it's probably a bit artificial. Hands down the best place to go if you like mango sago, pomelo, coconut jelly and jasmine tea. They've got that flavor combo down to a science. Their Millbrae location is conveniently located in the heart of Millbrae downtown on Broadway. It's more of a order-and-go spot, since it's small. You can order ahead, at the counter or at the tablet kiosk if you want to take your time going through the menu. I always order their Coco Mango Jasmine Bloom: Freshly cut mango and pomelo mixed with coconut milk, coconut jelly and small sago pearls, upgrade to large, at 100% sweet. I've been to the Millbrae Ume Tea a few times and had mixed experiences. The drinks are consistently good -- I've tried the Thai Tea Crème Brûlée, Mango Coco Smoothie, and most recently the Oolong Brown Sugar Boba. All were tasty and well made. I came specifically for the Bunny Surprise Cup, which is a drink size upgrade that comes with a plushie in the bottom compartment. For this drink size, you pay an extra $4.50. The Bunny Surprise Cup is a fun idea, but the results vary. On my first two visits, I got full-sized Sanrio plushies (Cinnamoroll and My Melody), which were super cute and made the extra cost feel totally worth it. But this most recent visit, I got a full-sized plush that honestly just wasn't very cute or well made -- definitely felt like a downgrade. What really brought the experience down this time was the wait time. I ordered just one drink and still waited 35 minutes. It only came out after I checked in with the staff. For a single boba drink, that's pretty excessive -- especially compared to my previous visits, which were a lot quicker. Updating my review due to my most recent experience... Ume had a BOGO Day for their Dessert Bowl for only one day. I heard that it was mayhem earlier in the day so I waited until after 8pm to place my order, hoping the craziness would die down. I was wrong. Fortunately I placed my order online prior to heading over, but when I arrived the line was going out the door with more people waiting inside. It seemed everyone ordered the Dessert Bowl aside from one person picking up a DoorDash delivery order. It was hard to see the decorations and displays on the wall because there were so many people inside. There were two workers at this time and both looked very overwhelmed. One was calling out orders and the other was making the orders. Even though several orders were ready for pick up on the counter, the one calling out the orders disappeared without acknowledging people in line; he later reappeared and started cutting food items in the back. This was frustrating because the staff was ignoring the customers in line and our orders were ready for pick up though we couldn't just grab the items ourselves, mind you all of the orders were the exact same since no customizations are allowed on this item. Then he finally returned to the counter and started handing out and bagging all of the orders. It took twenty minutes standing in line to get my order when it was already made and just needed to be bagged. Considering that this event was advertised the day before, management should've staffed up to meet the demand for the new item. If staffing up was not possible, the staff should've maximized on the prep work ahead of time to help streamline the production process much smoother. Lastly, the two staff working should've made it a point to acknowledge the customers in line and try their best to not let the line get as long as they did; since the orders were already ready, the staff should've distributed the orders to those in line and then move onto working on additional orders coming in. It was interesting to see the store packed inside and the next minute everyone was walking out with their orders. After all this, the Dessert Bowl was food and I liked the combination of sticky rice, mochi, taro, and mini taro balls in coconut milk, though after the hassle of getting my order I felt like I didn't enjoy it as much as I should have. Now I may start avoiding any future promo days unless Ume management can train its staff to manage the lines better and learn to acknowledge its customers to help enhance the overall customer experience. read more

Love the decoration inside the store. It is very unique and cheerful. it is small shop with one touch screen for ordering or you can order via counter. you can also order online. They have loyalty program where you can can free drink and also get a point for dollar you spend. They have plenty of drink option from milk tea to fruit. One of my absolute favorites is their Lychee Watermelon drink -- it's refreshing, light, and hits the spot every single time. I always add crystal boba for that perfect chewy texture (highly recommend!). Another go-to is the Mango Coco, which is tropical perfection in a cup. Now, if anyone from Ume Tea happens to be reading this... I'm going to be a little selfish and say -- please bring back the Avocado Shake with mixed oats! It was one of my all-time favorite drinks (and toppings!), and honestly, I still miss it. I started going to UMe when it first opened in Cupertino and also Fremont because I thought the mochi in the drinks were interesting. In a way I'm surprised they opened on Broadway in Millbrae because they would be facing ridiculous competition here as there are several boba places. What sets them apart is not their drinks but that their popcorn chicken is delicious. In fact it's probably my favorite popcorn chicken place in the Bay Area now. The chicken is tender and flavorful even in the original flavor. They do make them fresh and prepare to wait a bit. The portion is also large enough that it's not a bad price. I ordered my drinks during the Wine & Art Festival and had to wait 1.25 hours for my drinks. This is after I had to micromanage them about one of my drinks cause Worker A put it down on counter and Worker B looked at it and never went back to it. Fast forward 20 mins later, I was out of patience, and asked them about my drink. Worker A took the empty cup and place it on the counter with the completed drinks. After another 10 mins, I had to point out that my empty cup is just sitting there. I finally got both my drinks, one half melted already cause it was the Mango Freeze, and my Pistachio Jasmine Tea. I started walking back to my car and about 2 blocks out, I noticed my drink was missing the pistachio cream. I went back to ask for the Pistachio cream but because there's a hoard of angry and thirsty customers inquiring about their drinks too, I had to wait another 20 mins to get my drink fixed. Also!! There's more, they gave me the wrong scent for the scented bunny thing that I ordered with my drinks. I understand they are busy but the whole process was very inefficient. They had 3 workers working today and they definitely needed more. Also, I think one of the workers accidentally cut his finger while rushing to cut up a watermelon. Drinks are not consistent, but +1 for service! I've gone to this Ume Tea in the past for their Mango Coconut drinks and Peach milk teas. The fruit drinks were good, and I enjoy that they use real fruits. However most recently I got their brown sugar oolong milk tea. Half of the boba was hard and way undercooked. Also even though it was 30% sweetness, the drink was extremely sweet. There was also some residue of drinkable mochi in my drink even though I has never ordered that.
