Wow this place was a treat! Great ambiance. Our server was very friendly. They had us seated immediately. The food here is exceptional. We all raved about everything ordered to the table. I'll certainly be back

Socal Kitchen is such a good spot for a fun, happy hour. I went last Thursday with friends and we all had a great time catching up over drinks and sharing a few things from the menu. The crispy rice was SO GOOD and the spicy tuna roll we shared was really solid too, especially for the happy hour price. Even though the bar was pretty backed up, our server stayed super attentive and friendly the whole time. You could tell they were busy but still made sure we had everything we needed. Also have to mention the interior, it's super cute and aesthetically pleasing, perfect for a casual night out that still feels a little nicer. Definitely a spot I'd go back to for another happy hour, in fact I'm going for an Easter brunch with my parents as well!

My fiancé and I wanted a nicer dinner before heading to a sporting event at Ohio State, so we decided on SoCal Kitchen! The vibes are amazing. Whoever decorated this restaurant knows what's trendy. The clientele was younger and very, very well dressed. I got an espresso martini and it was excellent but wow... it was strong with both espresso and vodka! For appetizers we got the sushi with shrimp (I forget what it was exactly called) and it was super tasty and the we got the edamame dumplings, those were okay, probably wouldn't get again. For dinner I had the chopped salad. It was incredible except for their being tomatoes and the menu didn't say there were I picked around them, so I was fine, but would have enjoyed the salad even more if I could worry less about picking them out! My fiancé got the Thai peanut bowl (or something like that). He said it was good but the peanut was rather overpowering... but it was good! Overall, we do highly recommend! Our "negatives" were personal preference things! The food was great!

SoCal dropped a new menu this past April, and it is fantastic! SoCal is already my favorite seafood restaurant in Columbus, and these new menu items only make it better!! The Crispy Rice is awesome and perfect for sharing! The Wok Fried Shrimp is soooo yummy! They have delicious sushi & the Yuzu Avocado Roll is a great switch up from other items I've had in the past! Stop on by!

SoCal has a great vibe--perfect for an after-work get-together. I went with colleagues, and we thoroughly enjoyed the lively atmosphere, the food, drinks and the service. The portion size was a little tricky--I ordered a salad expecting a full entrée, but it came more like a side. That said, both the salad and the chicken were absolutely delicious. My colleagues loved their dishes as well, and the bread was a big hit--so fresh and tasty. Overall, SoCal is a great spot for an after-work dinner in downtown Columbus.

Great time here. Stopped in for dinner a few weeks back. Easy to get a reservation and the ambiance in the interior was very upbeat. Strongly recommend the stuffed garlic bread it has Asiago and spinach inside of it, one of the best breads that I've ever had at a restaurant. It's fresh-baked by their in house baker per our waitress. I have the crispy rockfish for dinner, which was delicious as well, highly recommend. Our server MJ was very friendly and knew the menu well. Overall another perfect experience for a Cameron Mitchell establishment!

This was a really cute restaurant in a charming part of Columbus. We had a large group and our server was very friendly, attentive, and made great recommendations. All of the food was very tasty and our entire group was pleased. I would definitely recommend and go back next time I'm in Columbus.

If I was writing this review on the oysters alone I would have given it a 2, but the service and atmosphere would have been a 4. I came here specially for the Monday oyster deal and was incredibly disappointed. The presentation was great but the oysters were so bad. They were unbelievably small, grainy, and did not taste super fresh. I would definitely give this place another chance if I was in the area because the bartenders were great and the atmosphere is fun and based on the reviews I'm sure the other food is much better but if I'm ever craving oysters again, I won't be coming here.

Tried SoCal Kitchen for the first time on a Monday during their happy hour, and wow, what a hidden gem. We ordered two rolls and the shrimp dish, and all three were absolutely delicious. Fresh, flavorful, and beautifully plated. The cocktails were also a standout. Balanced, well-made, and just the right strength. The space itself is stunning. The interior design is modern yet warm, with thoughtful details that make it feel both upscale and inviting. You can tell care was put into creating an experience, not just a meal. Service was seamless. Friendly, fast, and attentive without feeling rushed. Our drinks came out quickly, followed by our food at a perfect pace. I'm honestly surprised I don't hear more buzz about this place, it's the kind of spot you want to keep in your back pocket but can't help recommending. We'll definitely be back.

Recently came here for dinner with a friend. There's nice indoor outdoor seating options. While our server was friendly and the vibe was cool, I wasn't blown away with the food. Perhaps it was what I ordered or the kitchen had a bad day. Would probably come here again for just drinks.

A Southern California style restaurant in Ohio? Sign me up! I went with a party of 4 on a Thursday night and we made reservations ahead of time so I'm not sure their walk in policy. Our server Ethan was super kind, attentive and knowledgeable on the menu. We shared the stuffed garlic bread which I highly recommend as well as some sushi. We each got a different entree which were all yummy, fresh ingredients and perfect portions. I won't lie when I first saw my pasta portion I was nervous it wouldn't be enough food but it definitely got the job done as I was stuffed. The lychee martini was soooooo good. It was a great place to unwind and catch a good meal with friends. Some food tastes good but doesn't leave you feeling good after. Not the case here! At SoCal the food was good and I felt good after eating it. I would definitely return if I'm ever in the area.

I made a reservation for brunch but they weren't super packed. I liked the vibe. Great decor and furniture with mirrors on one side of the wall, interesting light fixtures, and beautiful tiles on the floor and at the bar. It's got a classy feel without feeling too formal. My friend and I shared a couple entrees: the burger (we added an egg to it) and the smoked chicken hash. The burger was good. Seasoned and paired well with the truffle fries. The chicken hash was okay. Underwhelming and had a similar flavor to something else I've had before. My friend got a Bloody Mary while I tried the For the Win cocktail as recommended by our server. It's a cute place! I'd come back again as the menu had a whole mix of different things to try.

SoCal has an unbeatable happy hour. They redid the menu for it so now it's all apps, sushi, and cocktails. Before it was select items on a special menu. Happy hour is throughout the whole restaurant, which is hard to find but is great for large groups. It also is on Sunday 3-5. We did their chips and guac, a roll, and taquitos. All were so good. Their guacamole is amazing. I would come back just for that. I didn't eat the sushi but my boyfriend loved it. The taquitos were good, but on the smaller side. We sat and the bar and had friendly, quick service. We will definitely be back

Ask the Community - SoCal Kitchen + Bar

Is there a rooftop bar?

There is not, but there is a rooftop bar next door called Lincoln Social. Very fun especially for a summer evening while the sun is setting!

Just curious if they have vegan options? If so, what are they?

Since their focus is seafood, there are limited vegan options. The chips and guacamole would be a good appetizer. The roasted shishito peppers, kale and roasted vegetables, and the black bean burger without the cheese would be good choices.

Is happy hour at the bar only?

No.

First off, the Brussels sprouts were hands down the BEST Brussels sprouts I have ever had in my life! I don't say that lightly, either. The sweet potato straws on top were the perfect finishing touch, adding an amazing texture and flavor combination that took an already incredible dish to another level. I would honestly come back just for the Brussels sprouts alone! I ordered the spicy dipped chicken sandwich, and WOW! This thing was an absolute monster of a sandwich! The chicken was delicious, the spice was fantastic, and the fresh brioche bun tied everything together perfectly. It was one of those sandwiches that makes you appreciate every single bite. I also ordered a virgin Bloody Mary, which was absolutely amazing! It's always nice when a restaurant puts just as much effort into its nonalcoholic drinks as everything else, and this one definitely delivered. Overall, I was thoroughly impressed with the food and drinks at High Bank Distillery. Everything I ordered exceeded my expectations, and those Brussels sprouts alone are worth making a trip to Columbus for! Highly recommend, and I will absolutely be back!

The space wasn't overly crowded, and the food came out in a decent time, which is no small feat for a group our size. The Highbanks team was very friendly throughout. The Spicy Bloody Mary was a standout, with a really nice house mix but as always could be spicer for me. The seasonal donuts were Cinnamon Toast Crunch -- great consistency, though not as sweet as I expected. The hot honey chicken and biscuits were solid, but I didn't get much hot honey flavor from them. One downside: the TVs were on the fritz, so we weren't able to watch the game on most of them. Overall, prices were good and the menu was well rounded, with something for everyone in our big group.

My Mother (who is a frequent guest to Cameron Mitchell Restaurants) and myself, decided to have a nice Sunday brunch at what she usually knows to be an elevated dining experience and choice Guild House due to the copious amounts of reviews and recommendations of their ability to accommodate vegans. So we did what was recommended which was called ahead to let them know that we were coming in to dine and the host reassured us that the Chef would be able to accommodate for the vegan diet. Once we arrived and were seated, our server gave use the run down and proceeded to let him about the vegan diet to which he responded there were vegan options on the menu (which there are not), I let him know we were told to let him know so he could communicate with the chef to see what could be prepared. After checking with the chef he told me only one dish could be made vegan even though I was told they would be able to make off menu dishes for dietary restrictions. The executive chef came out only to agree with me that they could make Off menu dishes, but didn't provide me with what they could make but told me the tofu for the salmon dish would be blackened, seasoned and seared so I went ahead and ordered the one dish that I was told could be made Vegan. I then went to order a drink and wanted to know what the rotating IPA they had on draft was at the time... the server responded that the ipa was called "rotating" if I would like to order it, after telling him several times that's incorrect and asking for him to check with the bartender, he finally decided to go ask what the rotating beer was, s if I don't know what I'm talking about or how to order at a restaurant. The food finally came out and not only was my tofu not blackened, it was barely seared or cooked as the chef assured me it would. My mother also order her eggs to be overhard and they brought her a runny egg and had to take it back. I tried to suck it up and just eat my food but the lack of favor was disappointing so I asked about my togu not being prepared right which they acknowledged and brought me out JUST the tofu (blackened this time) without remaking the whole dish. They did eventually take that item off the bill, but the manager never came out to speak to us or to acknowledge all the problems we were experiencing. I am highly disgusted and shocked with this experience and the lack of professionalism and hospitality exhibited by the server, the management and the kitchen staff. This was not up to Cameron Mitchell standards what so ever.

This can be tricky because there seems to always be out the door, but most patrons understand the assignment and turnover goes quickly. I recommend searching the current menu online so you are ready as soon as you get to the register. This place appears to always be busy and bustling with people. We ordered the Country Scramble, Pancakes, and an Egg Sandwich. Drinks were hot apple cider, hot cocoa, and a Blackberry Fizz. All the food was delicious and are def the highlight. There is self serve coffee and soda(and water I believe although the person who got up to investigate for our table couldn't seem to find it). Honestly, the service is not my jam and why I dropped off a star. They seemed to be serving mimosas, wine, and Bloody Mary's in the line while you waited but the gal that was overseeing the area didn't really make eye contact so we didn't bother with that. Register was friendly and knowledgeable. But then the service gets tricky. There are no dedicated servers / bussers. Just people doing both. So many times you will find a group of people waiting for a table that needed to be cleared. We waited for the table to be cleared and no one was wiping the tables down, just removing dirty dishes. Our table was terribly sticky from the prior patrons but since you don't have a dedicated server, no one was coming back to take care of that. And lord help you if something wasn't right or you needed attention. We had no tableware or napkins and had to take them from another table. One of our meals took 10 more minutes than everyone else's so then our food was cold as we tried to be polite to the person who did not get food (but who do you inquire with?!). And if you wanted something else (another drink, or a pastry), you were going to have to wait in the line again. The food was good, but probably not a place I would return.

A true fine dining experience! The sommelier was very knowledgable and the wine paring was exceptional, too. This is definitely an expensive restaurant, but on the other hand, it is a "special occasion" place, and the price of the tasting menu is comparable with other fine dining restaurants offering tasting menus. I do have a few "glitches" to note, though. First, the pace of service felt a bit rushed. The time between courses was not sufficient to finish the wine, take the whole experience of the course in. When you come to a special occasion place (12 course dinner), you don't plan to just have dinner, you plan to spend an evening. The space is nice, the tables are placed well to provide enough privacy. The kitchen though, does not need to so visible since it does not seem to be a show piece. And, the wrapped candy in the end do not belong to such place :) And unfortunately, my take-away little gift at the end of the meal missed part of the "gift" itself - not a biggie, but just saying :). So, on the balance: the food was great (except for desert, which, for me, missed the flavor complexity, but that might be a matter of taste). The service, while nothing was "wrong" in particular, needs a bit of fine-tuning, especially to justify the price for the evening!

Food is great, but I was disappointed because I booked a reservation based on the "Midwest…read morenostalgia tour" as advertised. Once we arrived we were told that was no longer being offered and the "website wasn't updated". Just be aware the Midwest Nostalgia Tour is still being advertised. They charge a cancellation fee so once you're there, you're committed.
