Hello, I was unable to see at all, and was basically blind. My Caregiver Lauren Dave Google Searched, and found this WONDERFUL,AWESOME,MOST INCREDIBLE PLACE. I have never been to any place that comes close to all the different types of tests performed by a variety of individuals who all had a specific job prior to my ever seeing the doctor. My doctor then did even more testing on my eyes, and found out that I didn't have Glaucoma as I had been told y another doctor. I was sedated lighting as you must be able to look at the 2 little white lights as the doctor does the surgery. He even told me exactly what he was doing as the surgery was being performed. In time I was actually able to see his blue surgical hat come into view, and then I saw the pieces of my cataract being lasered away in chunks. They were black in color, and they kept flying to the left bit by bit. I have never had so much fun having a surgery, and after the surgery was over they took me out to a lounge chair(that I wanted to take home with me as I have never sat in anything like it before. The Anesthesiologist sat next to me, and actually asked me if I had been a Beauty Queen as he was looking at a DL picture of me. Talk about making a girl who does not feel pretty at all this really perked me up, and then some. They all knew I had been a nurse, and this was WONDERFUL as it made me feel a part of. I had a doctor do the wrong surgery on my back in 2005, and it took away my biggest passion of being a nurse. I can not ever that the surgery staff enough for the care, support, and the doctor for giving me my sight back to me. I have another surgery for my left eye coming up pretty soon, and I can't wait to see them all again. SoCal Eye - Optometrists Near Me - Long Beach, California

First of all they refused after last December's exam to do a recheck saying we are only allowed 1 exam per year and I needed to wait until next December for a recheck because I couldn't see with the glasses. I had to go to another eye care facility and have another exam and pay for another pair of glasses. The new exam showed the exam SoCal Eye did was entirely wrong. This has happened several times. My plan says I can go 1 time a year but in January they refused to give me an appointment. They messed up and I had to pay for new glasses somewhere else. My appointment yesterday was for Dr. Emma Clay for an issue involving extreme pain but I didn't get an appointment with her and apparently the doctor I did see wasn't a specialist in this area. The doctor didn't know what to do so he referred me to another one of their doctors and can get in for almost 2 MONTHS!! 1 hour 45 minutes and now I have to wait for another almost 2 months for other doctor. My records also said I hadn't been there for 4 years! December 2021 was my last appointment! Something is radically wrong with this place. I recommend Dr. Trinh Nhu. for Cataract Surgery She operated my 73 yr. old father which he had 5 strings detached to his eyes. We came back next day (post-op). She saw something that needs to be put in place. She took initiative to gather her surgical team with Vince & 2 others. The we're done fast. She told me that my Dad is going to be ok. This eye clinic always takes 2-5 hours per visit. They do have skilled eye specialists but they always take forever just to see anyone. For this reason, only two stars. If you do not have 2-5 hours to spend EVERY visit, it is recommended you seek another eye clinic. read more

Welcome, ladies and gentlemen to the optometric mill, we pack 'em deep and treat 'em cheap. Went for an appointment, was my first visit, so I showed up early. Got the paper work done, and knew I was in trouble when I took my seat along with over 30 other people! Oh yeah, this place is a mill. After waiting for 45 mins., past my appointment time, I asked the clerk to cancel the chart, because had not anticipated a 45min wait and had to get back to work. She began some excuse, I thanked her for her time and found a 5 star doc (Sea View Optometry, Long Beach) while I had waited in the eye mill waiting room. There are several optometrists, here as well as ophthalmologists (an MD that does eye surgery). This office seems to be a funnel for eye patients to the MD side of the practice. I cannot comment on the doctors, because I did not have time to wait for one. I cannot recommend to friends and family. read more

The recommendations she has made relative to any eye conditions I have had always lead to an excellent result. Dr. Nhu also always makes time to carefully explain all the aspects of what she observes during my annual eye exam. Sadly, our experience was closer to the first review below than the last. My wife was seriously traumatized after enduring a cataract removal with virtually no sedative. (The eye itself was, mercifully, anesthetized.. mostly). When she told the surgeon she was in pain as instructed, she was told "stop talking, we're almost done". I was stunned when my wife told me about this later. She was, in effect, completely aware and unnerved by the entire experience. I waited in the reception area for quite a bit longer than scheduled, and when I inquired about the hold up the nurse explained a delay to me as "your wife's blood pressure is a little high, so we're waiting for it to go down before releasing her". Enduring eye surgery without a sedative would, indeed, raise one's blood pressure. The next day, at the post-surgical checkup we both pressed the point, however we were told by the attending doctor -- not the same physician who did the procedure -- that we would have to talk to the surgeon about it at her three-week checkup. The doctor seeing my wife did make extensive notes, but again, no follow up or apparent concern. In the interim, my wife has sought out a different surgeon for her second eye. Today, when I called to cancel the check-up with Lakewood, the person took the cancelation without comment of any kind. The cataract replacement itself was a competent job, and the people were certainly very nice if not terribly concerned. But considering the amount of trauma and disinterest in the patient's wellbeing this is to me an unacceptable medical relationship. As such, I cannot recommend anyone seek out Lakewood Eye for cataract repair procedures. read more

Waiting room sucks! I've seriously waited for an hour even though I had an appointment! Receptionist are rude and seem unhappy to answer calls and when you call they give one word answered. They aren't any better in person and have snobby personalities. They are so difficult to try to book appointments when you have a busy schedules. I hope they get new ladies up front because they are just awful and you can tell they hate their job and are just there to socialize. read more

Excellent care and skilled Doctors worked on me at both offices.(Los Alamitos) Most specific was Dr Clay who did the 2nd exam and the laser surgery. She took the right time to make sure I understood my condition and took my previous experience in hand with her treatment. (Yep, many time, a Doc with ask the same question you told over and over) and Dr Clay repeated this during the exam and before surgery. I own a business in Long Beach (The Red Leprechaun, Irish Pub and Restaurant) and know that YELP is important and to give all the facts. Previous reviews did not give justice to their overall performance. And down right pleasant people who have noticeable politeness is quite refreshing! I was recommended to their office with a note that there was a wait time. But "QUALITY WAIT TIME". Once the Doctor and assistants have you in their care/appt. They take their time and do it right! Yes, I did wait, but nothing out of the unexpected for serious treatment for my condition, Glaucoma. And they were not aware that would come up in a routine eye appointment. (Thus, example of wait time reasons...) Yes, there was a lot of traffic, but welcome to the aging world and centers like this that can treat more than one patient and making their skills more and more practiced. Side note: They also made my surgery very affordable considering I do not have health insurance. read more

If you are looking for a good place for yourself or to take an elderly family member in need of eye care, I really recommend this place for great care provided with warm personalities, I have been taking my aging mother to Dr. Hartman for years. He is always enthusiastic and kind and treats my mother well. Plus he has been taking care of my mother for 35 years and she sees great for an 85 year old so I have been really pleased with their patient care. When we have an emergency we can get in quickly, though sometimes we have to see the other doctors, who are also all great in our experience. Sometimes we have to wait a little while to see the doctor, but most of the time this is not a problem. The waiting room can get busy, but they have more than one doctor working there so I think this is reasonable and probably a good sign that people want to go here (when is the last time you went to a good restaurant that wasnt really busy?). I was prompted to write this review when I had my own issue lately. I had a scare when another eye doctor told me I had glaucoma and was going to go blind. I was able to get in with Dr. Pasquali in the next few days for a second opinion. I drove 45 minutes to get there and it was well worth it. Dr. Pasquali sat down with me and explained everything to me and had a wonderful and reassuring bedside manner. He patiently answered all of my questions and demonstrated genuine concern and understanding of my worries. He told me exactly what the plan was and what to expect and what they were going to do to save my vision. I still have perfect vision today and I know I am in good hands. I could not recommend this practice enough. Sometimes there can be a wait, but it is worth it to see really good and really caring doctors. read more

I'm with Rose on her complaint about Dr. Rende's behavior. Today I experience the same rudeness and ugly attitude of this man. Never had I felt so unwelcome in a professional environment. It began upon the first meeting he looked not happy at all to see me and the fake handshake proved it. When I asked him after the checkup about getting my eye-washed from the dilating drops used on my eyes because it bothers me, he appeared annoyed and reacted in a way that made me feel stupid although it was a valid request. My family and I have been patients at SoCal eye for about 15 years (my mom even longer). I have never had any major eye issues. I only ever head in for routine check-ups and to replace my contact lenses every couple of years. Recently, I had an eye issue that I needed checked out - it has been about two years since my last visit. Upon calling, I was told "we'll see you since you've been a patient of ours for so long." Cool? Thanks? Not sure what to make of that. Was able to get in the next day. Great! Upon arrival, I was asked if I wanted to get fitted for new contact lenses. Sure, guess I can kill a check-up, and figure out what was wrong with my eye and get some new contact lenses at the same time. Next I was given the new pricing on contact lenses. My pricing had increased from approx. $175 all in to about $375 in two years time. WHAT?! So I asked to speak with the clinic business manager. She could not explain the increase except by repeatedly saying we are a business and can charge whatever we want to charge. I pushed back. I told her that I am a customer and a patient. Did she consult with the patients before making this "business" decision? If so, fantastic. Spoiler alert: she did not. She then, for about 5 minutes, and with the poor doctor in the room, continued to berate my intelligence and speak down to me as if I had no education about running a business (and to be fair from the looks of the waiting room over the years, its pretty clear they prey on the underserved and undereducated population at least in Long Beach). She let me know she had an MBA and graduated from CSUDH. Jokes on her I have my masters and help run a national company. I digress. Im not here to tell you how to run your business but I was actually shaking by the time your clinic manager was done berating me over my questions. Good jobGuess she doesn't like it when a long time patient questions poor decision making. I can't wait to find a new eye doctor and never return here. This is the pettiest review I have ever made and I hope to dissuade potential new customers from the folks now running the business - I feel bad that Dr Hartman's life business is being tainted and run in to the ground. Update: socal eye responds to Yelp reviews but doesn't reach out to make the experience better or even try and figure out what went wrong or treat my years of loyalty with any respect. Everything was going well until my recheck. Dr Rende asked me why I was there. Well...you told me to come back in 4 weeks. After the re exam for floaters & flashes of light, I mentioned how scared I was & could this happen again. He seemed like my question annoyed him & told me to just come back. I came for my new patient appointment in November 2016. I was not ready to get new glasses/contacts at that time, but became ready last week. I called the office and asked for my prescription so I could order contacts and glasses. I was told, "No problem, we will send it right over." After about an hour, I received a call saying there was no prescription taken from my appointment in November, even though I went through dilation and refraction, and was charged a copay for the appointment. They eventually apologized, saying it was clear an error had been made. So I rescheduled the refraction appointment. I am now sitting in the office waiting, 35 minutes after my designated appointment time. I am missing out on valuable work time, when I am on a major deadline right now. They have already charged me a copay, although I'm not sure why I owe one, considering I'm back because of their error. I just want to say that I know and understand that people make mistakes. When I make a mistake, I hope that people will go easy on me and understand that it won't happen again. And I understood that coming back for this appointment was just part of that understanding. But now this is ridiculous. I will be leaving SoCal Eye for good after this. read more

I went in for a eye exam with Dr. Kwok. He was very polite and very thorough in my examination. He answered all of my questions and concerns with regards to my eyesight and prescription. It genuinely feels like he cares for the well-being of his patients. His knowledge and personality are the qualities I look for in a doctor. In March of this year I had cataract surgery on the first eye and the second one done in April. The experience was not great but I know this had to be done. Everytime I came in for a check up I was seen by a different doctor. Some very nice and one not very easy to talk to and full of herself. My main concern and complain is that I have floaters under the lenses that were implanted in my eyes. I asked each doctor if this would correct itself in time and was not really given an answer. I finally got mad and requested an appointment with Dr. Carl, who did the surgery and thought this question would finally be answered. No I got the same brush off. I still see what is called pieces of tissue that was left in under the lense. They look like little hairs. Will it go away? No one knows or will say. I would find another office to go to not because you have to wait (that is a short period in your life) but because you can't get a straight answer. read more

Great doctors but DONT get a pair of glasses there. Bought a pair didn't work for me because my vision didn't improve that much and I wanted to return them. Ended up getting stuck with a worthless pair of almost 500 dollar prescription glasses. Walmart Costco all have 30 day money back guarantee avoid if you don't want to get stuck with something you are not happy with. read more

After i had my exam i decided to hold off on lasik. I called to get an appointment for contact fitting . They said they had no appts and they woukd call me back. This happened twice in two weeks . Great doctors but the front office staff could use some re-training. There doesn't seem to be anyone in charge. The same experience happens when you call them on the phone. They want to know who you've spoken to but they don't introduce themselves so you can't recall who you may have spoke to before. Some of the front office employees are more interested in gossiping than focusing on check-ins and follow up appointments. Some other patients were being asked for their co-pays when they had just paid it to someone else at the front office. This makes patients unnecessarily nervous about how professional the doctors will be in the exam. For the most part, the opt. Techs are great. Some seem to have less experience than others but overall, once we got past the front office staff, the appointment ran smoothly. read more

Extremely frustrating experience!! Waited for an hour and a half and finally just left because it did not even look like I was remotely close to being called in to see the Dr! Waste of my time, I agree, it's a mill, they had a large number of patients waiting to be seen and they have horrible time management! I can't vouch for any of the other doctors that work here, but I saw Dr Emma Clay, and she was awesome. Yes, the wait time was longer than expected; however, I'm used to that at a doctor's office. And, the receptionist was so snarky, it was almost comical. She needs to turn it down a notch, for sure, because I felt like she was looking me up and down and deeming me "unworthy" somehow. But anyway, Dr Clay really seemed to care about me! When she did the exam, she told me what she was doing so it made it seem less scary. And, when I expressed concern over how much I'd have to pay for future care, she went over other, more cost-effective options instead of trying to up-sell. I went here at the recommendation of a co-worker, and even though I had to drive quite far to get to Lakewood, I would do it again. Give them a shot! Make sure you see Emma!! read more

I love this place, its the only place that I've gone to that the Doctors actually take time and discuss your vission with you. I've gone to several places and most doctors they dont even bother to go in deatil about your eye sight. The two previous reviews were kind of harsh but everyone has their opinions. I been coming to this doctor for years and the place is not bad, yes they get busy but thats to show you how great they are. If you are a new patient I have news for you, you are going to wait just like in every doctor's office you go to. I never been to a doctors office that they take you in withing the first few minutes of showing up (if new patient). Overall the docs are great, friendly and caring, so is the staff. The support staff is excellent. However, it took two hours for me to be seen. Dr. Hartman is very pleasant and thorough. I returned the next week to be examined for contact lenses. The young technician--who had a very very bad case of BO--insisted that only they could order my contact lenses--at a price nearly double what I pay online. I've worn contacts since I was 18 and always obtained the written prescription to send to Lens.com. I refused the exam and went elsewhere. read more

The waiting room was large and clean with plenty of seating and TVs to watch as we waited. The desk staff was friendly and efficient. But the best was yet to come. Once we entered the exam rooms, everyone we encountered was professional, kind, and helpful. Everyone welcomed us and put my daughter at ease. Dr. Pasquali was one of the nicest doctors I have ever came across. I was referred to their office by a local hospital after having sight problems in one of my eyes. From the time I entered the office, all of the staff was friendly and accommodating. After the back of office staff listened and answered all of my questions, Dr. Pasquali came into the room and took the time to explain I needed more pictures of my eye to figure out what is wrong. I wanted to make sure it was covered by my insurance and he replied, "I misunderstood your insurance when the hospital called me. I actually don't take your insurance but I am seeing you anyway, no charge." I was so surprised, and humbled he was just seeing me for free AND getting down to the root of the problem with my recent decrease in my sight. He really took the time to explain what the problem was, call my primary doctor, write a progress note, and made sure I knew what the next steps were.
