Our experience with this place was less than stellar. First off, we went to this store based off a magazine add, that advertised snorkel gear for 4.00 per day. In actuality, it ended up costing us over twice that amount. We left the store paying over a hundred dollars for the week for two people. This was the only place we knew of that offered special lenses and since my husband wears glasses and had never been snorkeling before we were ok with spending the extra money. The mask still leaked and fogged up constantly. But more than that, when we returned the equipment, we were told that it was being returned three hours late and therefore we owed them more money. We explained that we were never told that the gear had to be returned by a certain time just that it was before closing. Since they had our credit card on file (which they require to rent) they told us that they would be running the card for an additional pro rated amount. In fact, they ended up charging us 25% of our entire rental!!! The guy at the return counter was rude and treated us like we were idiots. When I explained to him that I didn't feel their policy was ethical especially since its on unsuspecting customers and I didn't want to pay the additional fee he said, "what do want me to pay it???" Avoid this place at all costs. read more

Loved Snorkel Bob's in Kauai, so naturally we rented our gear for snorkeling here in Maui. $35 a week for top of the line fins and mask. Service is always great. After the first day of use, I realized my fins were too tight and my husband's mouthpiece was broken. We went in to exchange them. No problems at all, no questions. Super friendly. I heart Snorkel Bob's. I heart Shelly at Snorkel Bob's on Dickenson Street even more. We stopped in on the 2nd day of our Maui trip to stock up on some rental essentials: snorkel gear, beach chairs, boogie boards... you get the drift. Well for renting all that shiz we were entitled to some discounts on activities. (Helpful #1) Shelly told us if we were going to do a luau we could book it through her and we'd get a discount. We mentioned we were probably going to do the one at our hotel (Royal Lahaina) and she quickly advised us to not do that one because it pretty much sucked. (Helpful #2) So she gave us a few recommendations of the best luau's that would be available to us (Helpful #3) so we told her we'd think about it and come back later in the week to book. So a few days passed and we decided to go back and see Shelly so we could book a luau. After telling her which one's we were thinking about doing she immediately started making some calls to see if she could get us in some of the ones that had sold out. (Helpful #4) Eventually she found us a good one and we were all set, as she took care of everything for us. (Helpful #5) I definitely urge you to go to Snorkel Bob's if you need to rent anything at all while you're in Hawaii... and if you're in Maui.... and in Lahaina, I strongly recommend this location. Zach is the sweetest most generous employee you have Bob. I went in looking to either get equipment to snorkel on my own or possibly catch a tour, but I knew I missed the morning one and that was the one that I wanted. He told me about some options and I ended up booking a trip to Snorkel and lunch for a really decent price. Zach then, after listening to my horror story about a personal trainer selling me a $1200 fitness retreat back in February and then cancelling it 5 days before my trip, and the terrible AirBNB host that got me to pay him over $400 dollars to stay in a house that was sold by the owner... He hooked me up. I can't be more grateful. Zach! Thank you for turning my trip around! If Snorkel Bob's employs people with such kindness to strangers, then I would take my service to him regardless of the competitors charging a dollar less for crappier equipment. Best place in Lahaina to get gear and book tours at great prices. We originally came in to rent a boogie board for a day and the whole process was fast and easy. After we paid, we saw a pamphlet that they get 20% off helicopter tours so we asked some questions and Zach was amazing in making us feel like family. He treated us so well and was able to accommodate our schedule. After we decided on a helicopter tour he even refunded us the cost of the boogie board and said we get a whole week with it free! I visited 2 of Snorkel Bob's stores, and liked how their staff are generally pretty educated and know how to gear you up with what you need for you snorkel trips, although they didn't know how to find the FISH BOWL! I definitely recommend everyone to try their floater (the one that goes around the waist). I also like the fact that you can return your gear at any snorkel bob and they have a drop box, so no worries if you make it back late and was unable to return it while their stores are open. Although they are semi-pricey, their gears are quality product, I've tried on various snorkeling equipment and a lot of time water has a tendency to get into my goggles, but snorkel bob's goggles did the trick. Perhaps it's just the fact that their goggles fit my oddly shaped head the best? who know, but pay them a visit while you're in Maui. read more

Very impressed. My husband and I stopped here on our first full day in Maui, and got the best gear they offered at the weekly rate. Ended up being expensive (I initially thought) -- it was $80 bucks or so, but ended up being waaaay worth it. We snorkeled in so many different places and even took our gear on a snorkel trip to Molokini. The trip we took provided snorkel gear, but we were so glad we brought ours from SB! It was so much better and it really made a difference. In addition, on our first day in Maui we had no clue where to go snorkel first, in terms of what would be worth our while. Sure we had guide books but its hard to tell from a book how the experience is going to be. We ended up getting a map and recommendations from the sales associate and she explained everything to us! This is the place to go for relatively cheap gear but not necessarily the customer service. I was visiting from NY with my family, and we found that a lot of our interactions with the staff were borderline condescending. There was almost an air of distain towards tourists, which came across when trying to get information on good snorkeling sites, etc. The equipment itself got the job done but even though we got the "top of the line" package, we still had some issues with fogging and a little leakage. Returned recently from spending three weeks on Maui....so much to share but starting with Snorkel Bob's in Lahaina on Front Street. Super clean place, excellent customer service....hats off to BRI and ZACH! They were so helpful in renting us snorkel gear to booking a couple of excursions. Each time family arrived during our extended stay we went back to get gear for them. Service was always consistent, place always clean and it's just a happy place to be. They will answer just about any question you might have even to dining choices. Is there a place cheaper? Not sure but I know there are places more expensive! I believe you get what you pay for and it doesn't have to be more then the deals at Snorkel Bob's where there is service with a smile. We will be back and it's one of a few stops! read more

Went here based on reviews and were not let down. The service, equipment and prices far exceeded our expectations. $5 a day for great that would cost close to $100 if purchased. Non fog goop was given free of charge. The company has an eco friendly approach with just the right amount of information to have the best, most fun, safe snorkeling time. The two page hand out is so well written. The basics but so much needed information about eco politics of diving and coral reefs. The company is clearly set up based on a set of values that does not put profits first. Incorporated is a sense of stewardship of the land, responsibilities of both the business and the consumer. The company seems to put the fish and their natural environment first, the customers safety, overall well being and satisfaction second and the rest takes care of itself. If there is something they could do better, they would. 24 hr drop off. Free drop off on any island! Great equipment including masks with prescription lenses for only a few dollars more. Super friendly and helpful staff who seem to still manage to genially care despite managing thousands of (not every one) at times clueless Haoels. Thank you for helping us have a great time. The process of rentals was personal, fast, educational, friendly and a bargain compared to buying this quality equipment. I personally saw the biggest sea turtle I've ever seen on this trip. Please read the two page hand out they offer. It's what you need and should know before getting into the water. Perhaps someday the rest of the business world corporate jockeys could learn a thing or two about becoming the largest and most successful scuba shop in the state of Hawaii by putting nature and their customers first. For any one who reads this and may not have the same positive experience, please look at the company as a whole, what they stand for, the services they offer and the good will they have created for every one including the ocean, coral and ocean life before marking off a low score because you came in on a busy day of some other little glitch that is just part of life. OK, so Snorkel Bob's is really touristy. I see myself as a traveler, so I am always a little embarrassed to go along with the pack. However, Bob has some good deals, clean rentals, and knowledgeable staff. I was happiest with the Molokini Crater excursion we took. As a long time diver and snorkeler, I am pretty picky about what impresses me. This, my friends, was fantastic. As a matter of fact, I had so much fun that I went and did it a second time a few days later so my hubby could come. Highly recommend it. read more

Will never return to this place for anything. First they lure you in with their $9 weekly rental for snorkel gear. But, that's only for adults. $24 for kids. Then, one of the snorkels was missing a diaphragm, so it was useless. We didn't want to waste time on the island driving to Lahaina to exchange, so we just dealt with it. Brought the gear back one hour after 10am and they charged us $8. Even after we told them one of the snorkels was broken and useless for a week. They wouldn't even let my 6 yr old use the restroom after we spent$60 bucks there. Oh well, I guess thats too much customer service to ask for. Don't waste your money. Go across the street and buy snorkel set for $10. read more

As locals we always use Snorkel Bob's in Kihei when we have a group of guests in town. It was an obvious choice to stop her in Lahaina and therefore extremely sad when the two female staff were rude and unaccommodating in anyway. We won't be back to this location. Very friendly and helpful on purchasing. Very not so much on returning. Just a couple hours late to return a weeks worth of paid gear and they charge you 1/2 as much of the total purchase amount as a late fee. I would move to the next shop down the road to get your gear. read more

Hate giving bad reviews but Snorkel Bob's left a really bad impression on me. First timers in Maui, everyone recomended Snorkel Bob's. The price was what I expected $13 for the better snorkel gear. We rented for 3 days worth. The girl that fitted us with the snorkels was great. However when it came time to use the snorkels, we had an issue with the mask. For renting the "best" snorkels, water still leaked in occassionally but it was manageable. The real issue here is when i returned the snorkel equipment. When I originally rented the gear, the girl that helped us told us the gear is to be returned in 3 days at this same time (about 12:30pm). When i returned the equipment, they charged me $13 for not returning it on time. WTF? They said it was due at 9am. Didn't really help or apologize or try to do anything. I'll definitely be telling all my clients, friends, family or anyone I overhear that's going to Maui NOT to come to this place. read more

Did a one day rental on snorkel equipment. We got solid info from the guy in the shop who didn't try to just automatically upsell us on the most expensive set. We got the fancy goggles/snorkel and the step-down fins. It all worked fabulously and I have very limited experience (only snorkeled once before). We went here to rent snorkel equipment and beach chairs. Jay took great care of us! We ended up booking a helicopter flight here too and saved money in that and got our beach chair rentals for free. I highly recommend this store for snorkel rentals and beach chair rentals. It saves so much money compared to what you would spend from a hotel. If you are staying near Black Rock snorkel equipment it a must because its such a great spot to snorkel and see some awesome sea life. read more

On previous trips to Maui, we went to Snorkel Bob's, and this trip was no exception. The Snorkel gear is outstanding, with the staff personally fitting it to ensure that no water gets in. The corrective vision goggles were a lifesaver for me. I have a diopter of -7, and the corrective goggles made the snorkeling as vivid as if I were wearing contacts. We did have a mask that leakes water, but we returned it the very next day in exchange for a tighter one- for free! Kayla, one of the employees at the time we were there was extremely helpful. Obviously, they make money off of booking activities, however she was extremely helpful in helping us choose our activities. Instead of saying "I can book you to Molokini for Free!" she guided us through each option, telling us the conditions for each trip as well as how crowded eaxh boat would be. She also helped us book a zipline tour, and gave us an extensive side by side comparison of the options. Between the amazing gear and cheap prices, as well as the extreme helpfulness of the staff, Snorkel Bob's helped our vacation become a lot easier and a lot more fun. read more

**WARNING: RENT FINS!** We rented the complete snorkel set with upgraded MoflO2 snorkel from Zack for the whole week. Water in Maui in August is like comfortable bathtub water. Having a quality snorkel set gave us the much needed comfort and confidence to explore Maui's beautiful underwater world, including being a few inches away from the Giant Sea Turtles!!! Zach is a kind and loving soul. He was methodical, patient, calm, and knowledgeable. He also is a strong proponent for wearing fins when snorkeling. Swimming against current could mean life threatening danger that no one would like to encounter during vacation. Fins will help you especially when you are tired. Be on high alert when you swim near the Black Rock off the Kaanapali Beach in front of Sheraton Hotel. 13 people had to be rescued one time from that location. Say a prayer before you enter the water. God bless!! read more

We rented from both Snorkel Bob's and the Snorkel Store while on our trip, and all agreed that Snorkel Bob's was a far less satisfying experience. The service wasn't great, the gear wasn't great, they weren't informative at all on where to go, or even how to use the gear, and it was more expensive! He was so helpful in making sure all the gear fit properly and that we were fully prepared to snorkel Maui on our own.
