We recently rented snorkel gear for our whole extended family from Snorkel Bob's and had a great experience. Kealoha was friendly and was keen to help us. She fitted all of us properly and we had a great week of snorkeling right by our hotel as a result. Not only did Kealoha work to ensure we were all fitted for the week, she eagerly provided recommendations on other not to miss spots near the shop, including the mandatory ice cream stop after an incredible day of snorkeling. Absolutely fantastic service. We went back 3 times during our trip just to talk to the ladies working there for suggestions on where to go and what to do. We rented jet skis through them, rented snorkels (of course), and got a bunch of info from them on luau's, places to snorkel, activities, etc. They were great. we have rented in the past & had a great experience. this time we were expecting an upgrade in snorkel rental. holly was a great help in choosing our gear. my only complaint is the sizing of the fins. i had to use my husbands fins @ the beach because my feet hurt after using them for 30 min. we didn't want to drive back to snorkel bob's. we saw ads of newer technology snorkel equipment @ other companies after we rented for the week. next time we'll check them out instead. overall, they provide a friendly rental service of beach equipment. read more

Having never snorkeled before, I wanted as smooth an experience as possible. Several friends recommended SB's, so we went there. Very knowledgeable employee, helped us rent gear for just the day ($9 adults, $7 kids), also gave us very good tips on snorkeling in general, locations, and our gear. The two gals we dealt with could not of been more friendly and helpful. Also if you're needing larger swim fins then this is a place to go. Another place just stared at us and wanted us to cram our size 16 feet into a 13 fin. Thought the prices were competitive. Did not take advantage of tour deals, though. read more

I share the same concern w.r.t customer service as mentioned earlier. The units we rented were pretty good, but when we returned the units back, the service felt a bit sub par. It was crowded when we tried to return, and the guy in the store after waiting for 15 minutes, told us to drop off the gear by the side. We did drop off on time, but later when we checked our bill, it looked like we were billed 25% extra. When we called for clarification, the person we talked to was pretty rude, and condescending. He was annoyed that we actually called for clarification. They delayed the check in, and on top of that, we got to deal with a rude customer service. I will take my service elsewhere next time I have to. Its a shame that the units albeit pretty good, get pulled down by pathetic customer service. read more

So, I went to Snorkel Bob's with a bunch of my family members, most of whom needed prescription snorkel masks. We were making our usual stupid jokes and laughing about things that nobody else understands. Yet the guy working there was patient and kind and extremely helpful. When we got back to our rental place, I tried on my mask in the pool, and for some reason it burned my face terribly, to the point that I thought I was getting chemical burns. After taking it off and washing both my face and the mask, this still happened. Dismayed that I might not be able to snorkel on our trip, I went back to Snorkel Bob's. The guy gave me a different mask to try, which had the same effect. He said he'd never seen anything like this and suggested I might have a bleach allergy (to which I responded, "How would I know? I don't put bleach on my face," being my usual sarcastic and annoying self). He brought out a BRAND NEW mask, fitted it with the right corrective lenses, and let me rent that one. Since it didn't bother me, we surmised that it was the bleach or cleaning supplies that were bothering me. He went above and beyond to make sure I could snorkel on my trip, and I am super grateful. Great place. Great guy. (Maybe Daniel? Not positive. I lost the card he gave me. But he was really, really nice and helpful.) Highly recommend. read more

Rented mask and fins for both of us....The quality of their product is quite good but our sales guy really didn't spend time to fit us to a correctly sized mask...My wife's mask turned out to be a waste as it wouldn't seal correctly and water constantly leaked in so she didn't use it for the 3 days again...there are plenty of snorkel shops on the island and what separates one from the other is the customer service. Our guy who helped us just gave us the mask and said to try on the fins and that was it...I felt like I was rushed out when I asked about locations etc due to another couple that had just walked in...we will more than likely try a competitor next time. read more

We went their looking to rent Snorkel equipment and let's just say this place is not great. We were met by a very poor customer service member who had us sit down and showed us the different snorkels they offer. We told them we saw an ad for $1.50 Snorkel and dismiss me as if I was an un educated in marketing gimmicks. They do not offer $1.50 snorkels but $2.50 ones which they say "leak" why sell a product which fails?! We went with the $8.00 Snorkel and left. The Snorkel leaked and was about a 2/10 scale.. I felt ripped off and would never come back.. save yourself time and just avoid this horrible place. Definitely unhappy customers! read more

If you need your hand held, sign up for a tour. If you just want to get into the water no matter where you are on Maui, take a trip to Snorkel Bob's and rent your gear. Basic transportation, a map, and $35 (at the time of this writing) is all you need to snorkel every day for a week. You can also rent by the day if you so choose. Returning your gear is convenient even after hours because of the snorkel drop box on the front of the building. read more

I purchased a moflo2 snorkel and was extremely pleased with it and the help I received from Snorkel Bob's staff. They also showed me a mask that had Rx built in for extremely nearsighted people like myself. I will definitely put this on my wish list for the future. Although we did not rent gear here we got great customer service. My husband and I had brought our own optical snorkel masks to Maui but my husband lost a pin to his mask the first day out. We called another snorkel shop nearby who blew us off but went to Snorkel Bob's where the guy fixed my husband's mask and gave us tips on where to go. Next time in Maui we will definitely rent some gear from these guys. read more

TLDR: you can tell me "it's not me it's you" but don't be unkind _and_ charge me for the displeasure. Poor customer service and disingenuous behavior makes me reduce my review by 2 stars. 3 stars since my husband's mask fit and the tubes and fins were nice. Don't count on the staff for anything but up-sell. We rented the gear Daniel at Snorkel Bob's recommended and fit us with. Mask fit is important when snorkeling, otherwise you're treading water and constantly clearing a foggy mask. I was unable to use my mask with my group, 2 of 3 that are experienced divers and told me the mask fit was wrong. I returned my rental gear and let Daniel and the older woman behind the counter know that my mask didn't fit properly: it didn't stay on with the breathe through your nose test, and when I showed them thinking at the very least they could recommend a mask that would work. They told me it fit despite having to constantly suck in through my nose to keep the mask on, "you did the test wrong", it was my fault, my face was wrong, or some version of "it fits" when it clearly didn't form a seal, and "you can wait 15 minutes to talk to Daniel when he's done with the new customers but don't block the register" . I was even told they had NEVER seen this happen before (seriously there's no harm in telling someone they're difficult to fit and your masks won't fit them, just say that, don't patronize a customer and lie). I tried my friend's and her's fit me without leaking under the skirt (Asian fit). Additionally the older woman told me there was nothing she could do "because computer" (???). read more

snorkel rentals at the resorts can run upwards of $50 per day, but at snorkel bob's we were able to get snorkel equipment, beach chairs, and a cooler for a little more than $50 each for the whole week. snorkel bob's also takes the time to fit you to the right fins and masks, and it is easy to upgrade to the higher quality equipment. they also give you a nice mesh bag to hold everything. when we were in the water, the gear worked great, but they are willing to exchange equipment if there are any issues. read more

It was my kids and I first time snorkeling and I had carefully researched different snorkeling companies and chose Snorkel Bob's, for their overall good reviews online. I had reserved our snorkeling gear online before arriving. I soon found out it was a mistake to reserve our equipment at this Lahaina store. My kids and I walked into this store on our first day in Maui and I explained to Daniel that we were beginners and for any helpful information/snorkeling tips he could provide. Note that there was no one else in the store, but us. It was evident that Daniel had no interest in customer service or care and wanted us (paying customers) out of his store asap and that we were wasting his time. He answered in monosyllables and had an in-your-face RUDE attitude. I spent over $100 in that store and was rushed out (we were in there maybe 5-7 min) and treated poorly. I've noticed now that other Yelp folks have had similar negative experiences dealing with this specific guy. Wish I had read those Yelp reviews before walking into that store. Buyers beware! Don't waste your time in this specific store if Daniel is behind the counter, and instead go to any of the other Maui Snorkel Bob's stores (especially Napili - those guys were very kind and helpful!) if renting with them. read more

We went on the dolphin snorkel trip for $120. Nice people but we had 25 people on the boat "stalking" the dolphins. Of coarse we never got close to the dolphins because the dolphins where petrified when all 25 of us got in the water and they raced away! It was too many people and there were 3 other companies also hounding the dolphins. Too much undo stress on the dolphins just so people can make a profit. We should never have gone. We continued on to see the sea turtles who don't dart away but were surrounded by our group and 3 other groups. The turtles had nowhere to go and people were diving down within 3 feet of the turtles to take pics. This is putting too much undo stress them. No one is going to stop them, even though this is illegal but a happy customer is a bigger tip. Profit is taking precedent over respect for the wildlife and it will have a very negative effect. Go snorkeling and respect the coral and you'll have a great time and save a lot of money and let the sea creatures be. Don't mean to preach but we should respect the sea creatures. read more

I was happy with the gear, prices, and Daniel (the man who helped us get fitted originally), but the customer service I received when returning the gear was awful. The man doing gear intake was rude and aggressive going so far as to tell me I 'better watch what I say' when I communicated exactly what I was told regarding the return policy.
