I cannot say enough good things about Snorkel Bob's and the beyond amazing customer service we received from the staff, especially Tabitha. We were in Maui for our super late honeymoon and wanted to go snorkeling. Upon searching on Yelp I came across Snorkel Bob's and loved how close it was to our hotel. Tabitha was so kind and detailed going over everything we would need for the day and recommendations. Not only was she super knowledgeable about the equipment, she gave us a map of all the best places to go snorkeling for the day in the area. She even gave some great restaurant recommendations. We went to one of the beaches she recommended. There was free parking and a cute little picnic area along with bathrooms. The equipment itself worked great. I on the other hand had panic attacks trying to wear the mask and going in the water, so I only saw some fishies. I'm bummed my anxiety kept me from enjoying snorkeling more, but the next time we're out here, and I hopefully grow a pair by then lol, I will ABSOLUTELY be back at Snorkel Bob's. Went back after renting 3 full sets of masks fins an snorkels for a full week. One day of use and we needed to exchange a mask that didn't fit my daughter, a snorkel that leaked water in while using and I was given 2 different size fins one that was way too small. Ruined our day at black rock. All good though, things happen and we went in with a positive attitude and weren't looking for anything other than an exchange for wrong and broken gear. But brother! Ollie was on duty and he could not have gone more out of his way to make me feel like I was a piece of crap for even trying to explain my issues. Sorry goes a long way. Adam was the best. Answered all my questions and more - got my sister, wife and I set up with a killer set! He recommended some great locations and we saw so many turtles. We opted to rent snorkel gear again and gave our son and his fiancé the Amazon stuff we bought for the trip instead. Anyway, this place is across from our condo rental and super friendly, priced well and convenient. Each weeks rental was $60 which included flippers, mask, snorkel, bag, defogger and a free (to take home) canvas beach bag. After our first day snorkeling, I felt my flippers were too big so I exchanged them without issue, getting a $10 refund. They have different levels of gear and I guess my feet prefer the cheap stuff. They offer a drop off slot if you're returning after their 8-5 business hours. read more

Needed my Snorkel gear and glad I found a Snorkel Bobs near our resort. Very helpful service. I wear glasses ( no contacts) .. didn't know that I could get prescription lenses so I can see the beautiful fish and turtles better while under water. The Snorkel report that they email you every morning at 8am was very helpful to find the best spots for the day. Don't recommend the floating belts as they are not much use when you are a decent swimmer. Kind of slow you down a bit. Save the money. Snorkel report is awesome. Gear is in good shape. Recommend! Terrible customer service. When we came in, the only employee was busy booking a tour, and asked us to wait. We waited patiently for 15 minutes, until she proceeded to help another customer who came in right then, 15 minutes after us. Pretty good, I've used them about five times. Snorkel Bob's has a bizarre problem with allowing customers to use American Express, even though they moved to Square which charges them the exact same fee as other cards. They make sure that the Square terminal is behind the counter so you can't use Apple Pay or use your American Express. If you try they'll just tell you they don't accept it. I've found this on three repeated visits since they moved to Square for payment processing. They can't tell me why. read more

We got all of the snorkeling equipment that we needed at a reasonable price. The staff were friendly and helpful. The boogie board with the see-through bottom/goggles was perfect for my nephew who didn't want to put his head underwater and we were able to rent goggles with a prescription for someone who is near-sighted as well. read more

Kylee was trying to help everybody at once which was admirable but frustrating for us as we were fitted and ready to check out in about two minutes but had to wait for her to get two other families outfitted with snorkel gear and flotation gear for children and adults before she would ring us up. She gave us a sheet that recommended beaches but the directions were unclear and we ended up using Yelp to find a decent place to snorkel after driving to two unacceptable locations and losing an hour's worth of time in the water. Our snorkels both needed purge valves replaced. I have used Snorkel Bob's on the big island and was highly satisfied. read more

I walked in with my wife and asked for suggestions about cleaners and defoggers for goggles that I already own and brought into the store with me. I had seen in the past how they let you spray your own goggles with a bottle that they have on hand. The lady behind the counter went a step beyond and gave me an entire bottle for free without even asking. It's a solution that works to defog and clean my goggles. We were staying on a resort and their fees for snorkel gear were ridiculous. We checked out other options and found Snorkel Bob's! We headed over there (along with the Times Grocery store) and got flippers, snorkel, and a yellow banana for little ol me because I'm not the best swimmer. The guy (maybe Bob!?) was very helpful and friendly. He helped us pick the right sizes and didn't rush us. We got a good deal and could drop off the equipment whenever (there is a slot to drop it in after hours) and get charged accordingly. It was worth it and I prefer to support a local business than the big business resorts (even though I stayed there - don't hold it against me)! read more

Wanted to update my review after the manager called me today. Had she been the one to be working or call me initially I'm sure I wouldn't have had the experience I did. She explained their policy, they try and have some leeway but since it was a few hours late they charge the daily fee. The daily fee is much higher because the weekly rate basically gives you a few days free. It's actually a good system because it encourages a weekly rental while giving the customer a good "deal" or average daily rate but then also allows for a one day penalty that amounts to a significant % of the original cost. I totally respect the way it's designed even though as a customer I think it's too much. I also think it's poor policy, as was not working with me when I requested it, because they should know they are likely one of the last experiences someone has on their Hawaiian vacation. I guess they are banking on one time guests more than repeat and referral business because leaving someone feeling that way as they leave the trip isn't helping win raving fans. The manager was friendly and wished we could have worked it out prior to me posting online. I get it. I wish she'd been available prior to me leaving to travel home or done a better job training her employee. She explained finding good help has been hard in Hawaii. I get it, it's hard everywhere these days. Wages probably need to rise for them to find good people which would increase prices. The whole thing is really circular. She also said they were working long days solo as a result and the store was closed so their employee could take a lunch break. I don't know how long the employee was gone but I get that side of it too and definitely understand why they'd need to close for that. It was never about the cost for me, it was about the way I was treated as a repeat customer who has referred their business to a lot of people. After talking to the manager I might go back and give them another shot and definitely wanted to be fair in my online posts to share their side of the story too. read more

We got the $10 daily rental but really prob should've just rented out gear for the week since we ended up coming back to rent again. Basic equipment that served its purpose well: mouthpiece, goggles, and fins. Plus defogger goop. The only issue with our rental was that one of us got a defective mouthpiece that allowed water to come in while snorkeling so we ended up having to take turns sharing once we were out in the ocean. Otherwise, all in all an easy and cheap way to snorkel. We took our gear to Ho'okipa, Black Rock, and Napali....Black Rock by far being the best experience of the three. read more

Had the best experience here! The lady (sad I forgot her name) who helped us was very funny and witty! She fitted us all for our masks and explained how to best wear everything! Gave us maps and tips on where to go and what to look for. When we came back to return one of our party wanted to keep the snorkel for an extra day and they let us do it no charge! Loved how the bags were different colors so we could tell them apart! Very nice staff and clean inside. Also good COVID precautions allowing only a few ppl in the store at a time! If I could leave negative stars I would. Look, I get it's a busy season, but waiting in a line outside, and to be greeted with Do you have a question? Um yes? First of all, we didn't plan anything until we came out here, our fault I get it, this was our first time in Hawaii. We thought we just walk in and a smiling face helped us select excursions for our trip. Instead we were treated like a number by two girls, one who was clearly nicknamed "Mary Jane", and were met with "what did you want?" Really?? I had to ask, do you guys have like a menu of experiences or? And we got "Everything is booked." Okay? If I would have known it was a high teenage girl literally googling things to do in Maui I would have done it myself. Crazy how we were able to book a LUAU (that was ALL BOOKED according to Mary Jane) and our snorkel trip we wanted through someone Else. DO NOT go to this place!! All the girls working there have a great attitude and smile and it's just nice to do business with them. We had such a great experience that we are going back to book another jet ski trip. There was limited capacity in the store due to covid, so they were only taking 1 group at a time. It ended up being quite a long wait at the door. When we got in, the gal working was super friendly. She apologized many times for the wait and thanked us for our patience. She even gave us a discount for the trouble. After she got us fitted for masks, she went above and beyond in recommending great locations to see turtles. We found turtles right where she told us. I wanna approach this review with the good, the bad and ugly points of view. Starting off on a positive note: The Good: The sales associate hit the nail on the head when he accurately chose a snorkel mask that matched my cousin's corrective lenses. I never thought that people who wear corrective lenses would need a corrective mask to snorkel in (duh???!!). This was my cousin's first time snorkeling and I can see his hesitation to do so but the associate (I'm sorry...I should've gotten his name) took a look at my cousin's glasses and chose a pair he thought would work out and amazingly enough, it was perfect! The sales associate also recommended a non-touristy place for us to check out since we had novice snorkelers with us. We had three out of seven people who had never snorkeled before. His suggestion was perfect!! The conditions in the ocean was perfect for beginners!! We initially had chosen Honolua Bay but he directed us to "Airport Beach" instead (but I swear the area behind the Sheraton in Lahaina is called something else - someone please correct me if I am wrong). I'm so glad that he did because I had never been to that part and it was absolutely beautiful!! The Bad: Pricey for snorkel/mask/fins set. There is always the up-sell for other items and I can see novice snorkelers getting caught up in this. It's unfortunate that there isn't more instruction given to beginners (as I witnessed another family "fresh off the plane and into the water" scenario unfold before me). My husband and I are both certified open water divers and are quite comfortable and confident in the water but upon hearing the inadequate instructions given to newbies it gets quite alarming. The Ugly: The sales associate was a bit cocky and rude. I guess he's used to getting all tourists in this shop and his tone was patronizing and sarcastic. Like i mentioned above, my husband and I are well versed in the water and without him knowing this, his tone and arrogance to all customers (especially those looking like tourists) was irksome. His tone changed when we told him we were from Oahu and were divers. Makes you wonder what images and experiences tourists come away with after going to this shop. All in all, this is a conveniently located shop that caters to rental equipment/gear for the water enthusiast. Customer service needs to improve A LOT! We knew exactly what we wanted and could do less with the attitude. A little aloha goes a long way. read more

The nice wahine explained the best things to get and also showed us the best spots to snorkel. We enjoyed our experience overall and when we brought the gear back, the process was seamless!
