We had the best time on our snorkeling tour today! It was our first snorkeling tour, and we truly couldn't have asked for a better experience. My husband was also snorkeling for the first time and was (not so quietly) terrified, but Will made him feel so much safer and more comfortable in the water. Will, Nicholas, Zac, and Catherine were all so wonderful - they made us feel welcomed and excited from the moment we arrived. Lila was also great and so much fun to take photos with! The entire experience was fantastic, and the food and drinks were delicious as well. We had such an amazing time and will absolutely be booking more tours in the future. Highly recommend!

We've been on a few Trilogy sails now and every one is as fantastic as the last- today was serviced by Chris & Caydn & the thing about Trilogy is that is always feels calm, relaxed and a little bit like family Nice to see them leaving out of Lāhainā again- we mostly snorkel on our own around Hawaii but my family has great memories with Trilogy and we'd like to see them succeed post fire - they've been back in Lāhainā now for a month (using other ports as well before this reopened) and have that same Aloha spirit they're known for (don't sleep on the cinnamon rolls, lunch, drinks and ice cream sundaes: all on your sail!) To me they're the only company to sail with

If I could give 10 stars I would!! The best service, great food, beautiful boat, amazing adventure! We started our sail at 7:00am to Lani. It was a 1.5 hour boat ride over. They served us a cinnamon roll with fruit and an egg croissant sandwich. After we arrived we took a short hike to an overlook, then snorkeled, built a sand castle, and ended our trip with lunch. Lunch was amazing!! It was teriyaki chicken, noodles, salad and roll. There were yard games that my 3 year old loved! Then on our way back we were served alcoholic drinks (mai tais were great), then an ice cream sundae. As we approached the dock they even gave us a cold towel smelling of eucalyptus! It was a great experience from start to finish! Everyone on board went above and beyond! They even gave extra help to my brother with Down Syndrome trying to help/encourage him to snorkel. I would highly recommend trilogy!

Exceptional service from all decks on hand, quite literally. From the moment the first mate, Brayden, helped you on board to the accommodating service provided by Katherine it was a perfect evening. We boarded and set sail promptly at 5:00 pm, returning just shy of 8:00 pm. Once settled on board, drinks were served, appetizers were spaced out, dinner service was confirmed and dessert with coffee rounded out the evening. We coasted along with a few key whale shots, the wind picked up, so the captain anchored down in the five, Kate literally put on her snorkel gear and tied off in the middle of the ocean. We treaded for dinner service with an open bar. The service was phenomenal, the staff made you feel like you were catching up with old friends. Laughter was contagious.during dessert blankets were passed out for the journey back to the marina, if it got too windy you could go inside instead of braving the elements. A true 10/10 experience...boom you sunset cruise, dinner cruise or snorkel by day excursion you will not be disappointed.

    Sunset from the boat!

THE BEST THING WE DID ON MAUI!!! We did the Ma'alaea Sunset Cruise with Captain Zach, Catherine, and Becca. The crew was so kind and so attentive. And the food was GREAT! We did the appetizer cruise and it was definitely enough food to be full. The drinks were great and the crew made sure our cups were never empty. The sunset was absolutely beautiful. We would absolutely do it again. They even have a photographer, so we ended up buying a picture from them (although $40 seems a little overpriced for one photo). If you are looking for a romantic (or just fun thing to do) on Maui, you have to check this out!

After over 10 years, we were back on Maui and ready to do another Trilogy cruise. This time we did a Sunset Whale Watching cruise. We left from Maalaea Harbor and took a 2-hour cruise that included drinks and heavy appetizers. The crew were amazing and made sure we had everything we needed, as well as answered all of our questions about whales. We saw so many whales and had a wonderful time! Our 5-year-old loved sitting on the net in the front of the boat and the warm chocolate chip cookies at the end. We highly recommend Trilogy and will be back next time we are on Maui!

Best vegan lunch in Hawaii is where? On the Trilogy!

Absolutely extraordinary. Captain Nick was the stuff. He even helped get a whale help from NOAA while we were on board (sick whale, possibly entangled, reported by Cap'n Nick!). Maurice took care of us like a Baywatch guardian! He rode the waves on his boogies board and watched out for us. We felt very safe knowing he was our sheepdog! Clay was hilarious but made sure we knew how to snorkel safely (and to look good doing it!). He had us laughing but he definitely wants you to do the right thing and be safe. Brooke shared her experience with Manta rays with me! She showed me her video. She was also really helpful while we were hanging out with a dolphin! She knews her stuff. This crew is off the chain, I imagine them hanging out on the land, all a bunch of dedicated and kind hearted people who love the ocean and its inhabitants! We are vegan and were afraid we would be met with scorn. Opposite was true! Two different crew members said to us, "are you my vegans?" It was so loving and kind, and not with the usual side eye. They made a scrumptious lunch for us - salad, quinoa and chickpea salad, and a delicious wrap. Even the coffee was amazing. The snorkeling was off the chain. Such great locations they brought us to - first on the Molokini crater, with tons of great fish. We even spotted an eel out there! The next spot was Turtle Town. We saw lots of fish and had an excellent time in the water. We spotted dolphins on our way back, and saw loads of humpbacks on the way out and back in - yes, including our sick friend, who I hope has gotten some help since we were out there.

We took a Molokini Tour on 4/11/26 and had an Awesome time .. check in was simple, the boat did not feel crowded at all, staff were fantastic !! We were almost immediately served breakfast and some drink options , and headed out to the crater. We snorkeled two different locations and both were perfect with coral and fish in abundance. On the way back we were served a hearty lunch and cocktails. It was the end of whale season but we saw several on the trip which was great. I would not hesitate to go on Trilogy again and would highly recommend them to everyone !!!

Thank you to the Trilogy staff for a wonderful cruise in Maalaea Bay. We went on the Captains dinner cruise for our last night in Maui. It was great. Food was excellent. Drinks were flowing. Staff was friendly , accommodating, and just awesome!!! This will be a memory of a lifetime for us. Thank you !!! Mahalo!!!

Okay...where to start...we took the trip to Lanai, the boat was not over crowded, very comfortable. Lots of seating available. Crew was super guest oriented. Checking in often to see if you need anything. Currently doing a beach loading outside the Sheraton. Whale season so we whale watched all the way over. Pulled into the pier on Lanai then a short walk to the beach to relax, hike, snorkel, whatever you like. Snorkeling was from the beach, short swim out to the reef. Plenty of marine life. They have a photographer and snuba if you want. Short walk to the tide pools. At the beach they had snacks and a fresh water shower. After a couple hours of beach time, short walk back to the pier for lunch. Comfortable open air service. Okay...The food...yes the food...on the boat start with a beverage then cinnamon roll and fruit followed by a breakfast sandwich. Lunch on the island is chicken lau lau, stir fried noodles, corn, Hawaiian roll and salad. As the captain said, they don't just feed you till you are full, they feed you till you hurt. Beverages are water or POG. On the trip back they have open bar. Crew was constantly bringing more drinks and checking to see if you need anything. They finished off with ice cream then finally a refreshing cloth napkin to wash your hands and face. If you go home from this trip hungry it's on you, not them. Can't say enough positive about the captain and crew. Okay now the weird, if you are early finding the check-in spot is a bit of a challenge. There is a small sign up in a tree. The other issue was the parking. Park in the Sheraton garage. Create an account with a QR code then I proceeded to go through the process multiple times. After the cruise the crew will let you scan another QR code for a discount. We were told $15 for parking but were only charged $2.99. Whatever, maybe the instructions we were given were off. I the only thing they could do to improve was to install a shave ice machine (kidding) trip was great, highly recommend them.

Our Trilogy Excursion experience was amazing! We were promised food and snorkeling, but we were in for an extra unexpected treat. We got to see so many humpback whales (male, female and babies) and learn about their migration and behaviors. The staff was engaged, knowledgeable, friendly and accommodating. I'd highly recommend Trilogy Excursions.

Great experience today for the Molokini/Turtle Town snorkel. Opted to do snuba at Molokini & loved it. Saw lots of sea turtles, dolphins, and even a baby whale breaching a bunch of times!! Breakfast & lunch were provided as well as drinks. The photographer (@islanddreamsproductions) on board did a phenomenal job capturing the experience as well (we purchased all of them!!). They had reef safe sunscreen on board for free. Would definitely recommend!!

Ask the Community - Trilogy Excursions

Hi, we have 2.5 yr old with us? Will we be still able to participate in the snorkeling activities?

    Likely not, to young

We are coming in January to take your tour. Is it likely that we will get seasick? Do people often get seasick on your tours?

No one on our tour was sick. It is very open and fairly smooth sailing the whole way.

Is there toilets on the boat to lanai?

We had two of them onboard. They are tiny but functional. If you plan to change in there I wouldn't especially since it's lower on the vessel and can get rocky

How many passengers are on a snorkeling tour?

We went in late May (2022) and there were approx 30. When we booked the 6:30am boat (to Lanai), the 10:00am was sold out. (So maybe less ppl on the early morning sail?) If… Read more

Looking for recommendations for the best snorkeling tour with Trilogy this Sept/Oct?

I definitely recommend trilogy, my friend went on a different tour the day before me to molokini, when comparing our experiences our was way better by far, the food drinks and space aboard our boat was better by far

My husband walks with a cane and has some mobility issues. Is there a tour for him?

We did the sunset sail on Maui and it was very accessible. You're sitting the entire ride. They feed you an amazing dinner with drinks! It's wonderful!

How long were the snorkel swim times? I've had some let you go for a couple hours which still flies by. Some I've only got a dip in for 30 mins and it felt so rushed.

We took the 6:30 tour. Once there, we walked to the beach, got a safety talk, then had until 11 to meet for lunch (or 10 for a "nature walk". So, plenty of time to snorkel.

Is it a big boat? How many people can be on board?

Big is relative. It holds around 50 people. You will have plenty of space and seating. Obviously some seats are more sought after than others but it really depends on the person

I emailed customer service but haven't heard back. Adding the Snuba option is pricey. How long do you actually get to Snuba for? Is it just at one of the two stops (we're looking at the Molokini Tour?

Great question! I’d recommend being cautious with the SNUBA option on the Molokini tour. When booking online, Trilogy presents SNUBA as a single $90 upgrade ($79.85 plus taxes/fees), which makes it seem like the full experience. What’s not disclosed… Read more

Read where it says they provide flotation devices (required for safety reasons). Are you required to wear them while snorkeling?

Yes. They want to be able to see people snorkeling plus it helps you be in the snorkeling position. They have the flotation belt or a vest. Better safe than sorry!!

Are any floatation devices or life vests provided? My mom cannot swim very well. Will she still be able to snorkel with a vest?

Trilogy provides a belt style flotation device. They also have boogie boards you can hold onto.

Staying on Maui and looking for a good snorkel tour. This company has great reviews but there are many different tours. Which would you recommend for the best snorkeling? Thanks!

We researched a number of the snorkeling options s before making our final plans and chose Trilogy. We are so happy we did. It was a highlight of our trip. The crew was great. The Snuba guide had a Marine Biology background and was extremely… Read more

I'm traveling alone will it be fun?

I think you will enjoy it! There were lots of couples (we were celebrating our anniversary) and there were also groups of friends who went. The crew is awesome and we were lucky enough to see a mama with her calf. The food was great too!

What is the best sailing to take with a baby?

Aloha Jennifer B. and mahalo for your question! We have found that the Discover Lanaʻi tour can be one of the best options for touring with a baby. This tour leaves Lahaina and sails to the island of Lanaʻi where guests get off the boat and can… Read more

Our first trip…read moreout was an adults-only family excursion while the kids hung out with their grandma and auntie. The catamaran was pretty sweet, with some really comfy bean bags overlooking the edge out to the ocean. While we did occasionally get splashed in this area, it was worth the unobstructed view of the sunset and the breeze in my hair. The crew was especially sweet and treated all of us like absolute royalty. A note to those who are prone to motion sickness: do not try to be brave and only wear sea bands thinking you'll be okay. Take your Dramamine an hour before you board the catamaran. While the first half of our dinner cruise was fine with my motion sickness, the second half of the trip left me feeling really queasy around dinner service time. This made me very sad. This was no fault of the crew, and 100% my fault for thinking I could tough it out. If you are ill-prepared, the crew has ginger ale, club soda and ginger chews to help. Speaking of dinner, the few bites I was able to eat on our first trip were fantastic: a full dinner buffet prepared by Cafe Jai. The salmon was perfectly tender, as was the short rib. The caesar salad was just the right amount of tangy (and the extra dressing was really great on the salmon as well.) I'm not sure what kind of sauce was on the crispy seasoned potatoes but they were absolutely delightful. And of course, the crown on top of a delicious meal was the mini brownie cup we were served for dessert before we wrapped up the trip. Our second trip (where I was prepared with some Dramamine) was a memorial for our grandparents, where we released their cremains at sea with eco-urns. I must say that the crew handled everything wonderfully. We had the full bar, another beautiful buffet spread including some delicious crispy chicken, a pesto pasta salad, pulled beef sliders, and rolls. After we said our emotional goodbyes, we were given rose petals to release into the ocean. We even received certificates after the trip that gave us the coordinates of where my grandparents cremains were released. I seriously cannot thank Sea Maui enough for giving my family a truly memorable experience on our trip to Maui. They made our trip so special. A million thanks for the kindness!

The Irish gentleman who pre-briefed us before leaving for the tour had a great sense of humor and set the tone for our excursion. Once aboard, the Captain and his crew were polite, cordial, fun loving and efficient. The food was great and the crew busied theirselves insuring everyone was comfortable, had drinks and the proper snorkeling gear. We saw many, many whales and at least 12 displays of whales big and small leaping out of the water. The hour long snorkeling provided the passengers with a myriad of tropical fish and sea turtles. We even had one try to climb the ladder into the boat. The fees for the excursion were fair and we definitely got our moneys worth for all we saw and participated in. I highly recommend The Sea Maui if you are looking for a great experience for you and your family or tour group.

We saw multiple breaches and tail splashes as we followed a mama, baby and escort (from an appropriate distance for many, many minutes. Our close friends booked this cruise and invited us and we look forward to our next outing.

Hands down. 10/10 If you are trying to decide between going on a large power catamaran or book Kainani - I will save you time, stress and mental energy. Book Kainani now. It is worth it. I'm the trip planner in our family (read cover-to-cover Maui Revealed and several other guide books on the island). Sailing - it was a relaxing day with nice wind and calm waters. Snorkeling - We saw so many fish (trumpet, convict, ember parrotfish, humuhumunukunukuapu'a) and even honu (sea turtle). It was a special day that I'll always remember. Captain - Ely = smooth and steady. Clear directions and focus on safety protocols. We felt safe the entire afternoon on board .. especially for one member who first time on a sail boat and snorkeling in open ocean water. Crew - Phil = perfect personality for a relaxing day on the water. Snorkeling guide extra ordinaire. Catering - We really enjoyed the poke tuna bowls, macadamia nut cookies, fruit on board. Water and beverages as well. What I didn't expect but enjoyed - We thoroughly enjoyed the journey to and from the sailboat. It felt special - in contrast, a power catamaran was down the shore with 75+ people boarding. Will I book again? Absolutely. (For those reading this far, unrelated Maui travel trip tip: the Hawaiian muffin at Maui Bread Company in Kihei and the pies from Leoda's in olowalu are worth the stop as well!)

We met them on the beach as directed, and then we're ferried to the main boat from the dinghy in several groups, which took a few minutes. We spent a good chunk of time boating over to the first location, which was a ways away. I'm not sure if this was typical or not, but it was super rocky, and I watched an entire family get seasick and throw up several times. Is that our fault for choosing this location? If it *IS* typical conditions, is it the fault of the captain for not picking a less rocky site? We didn't throw up, but we were definitely nauseated and didn't even snorkel at the second site. Same went for that whole family that got seasick, lol. The snorkeling was fine, equipment was in good condition, and the fish were... ample enough. I'll give it up to the two crew members on the boat, they were helpful, friendly, and got us well-situated and kept us safe. The captain on the other hand, I'll agree with another reviewer, is that he seemed unnecessarily short/sarcastic with some nauseated passengers (and then overtly flirty with a few others, but I'm not going to broach that here...). I witnessed him get really short with an Asian woman trying to figure out how to lock the bathroom door and flush the toilet, which on a boat is not typical common knowledge. The food and drinks they provided were pretty good, very basic snacks and drinks that help us over until lunchtime. With more time and planning, I'd probably book with a snorkeling tour that's a bit more popular, and that goes to a more popular and less rocky site.
