We had originally booked a different sunset cruise, but that company cancelled our cruise twice (once due to not enough people and once due to weather). It was down to our last night in Maui, so we started frantically looking for another company to see if they were going out that night. We called Alii Nui, and they said they were still planning to go, so we immediately reserved a spot. We took a Lyft to the dock area. I will say their location was a little hard to find based on where we go dropped off. You have to go around to the opposite side, so give yourself a little extra time. It started sprinkling just as we were getting on the boat, but luckily there is a covered area down the stairs that everyone could fit under. They were getting everyone drinks at the bar already. Before taking off, they shared with us that the water was a little rough, and if we easily get sick, they could rebook you for another day. They were feeling confident about the weather, but also warned that if the rain got worse, they might not take the boat out. Well...the captain's instinct was right. There was just a small rain cell right over us, and a few minutes out from the dock, we were past it. The crew immediately started getting all the seating dried off and getting the snacks prepared. They were all amazing! They kept everyone safe and dry and even went around wiping glasses/sunglasses off for everyone. The snacks - jackfruit and pork sliders, along with several yummy dips were the perfect amount to fill us up. The drink selection at the bar was great as well. I figured it would be really cheap well type options, but I was wrong. Good craft beers and wines, as well as lots of good cocktail options. Not long into the ride, the captain spotted whales. We were at the very beginning of whale season, so there weren't as many out yet; however, he kept his eyes peeled, and we got to see a great display with several whales out. I will say this sunset cruise was a little pricier than the others we looked at, but we had the best time. There were a variety of age groups, but I don't feel like anyone felt out of place. Good energy and music without being crazy. Everything was top notch, and I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for a sunset cruise in Maui. I hope I get to go back and do it again some day!

We had such an incredible trip. The staff was fun, informative and helpful. The drinks were great and plentiful, as was the taco lunch. I am fearful of the ocean, but I jumped in and was so glad I did. The turtles were amazing underwater, I saw tons of fish, sea urchins and an eel. Would definitely do this again, no hesitation.

Probably the best catamaran company on the island. We did the Turtles and Tacos tour and we loved it. Staff were really great and there was even a photographer on board that took pictures of us in the water and on the boat. You pay a single price for all photos she took and it was very reasonably priced. They served chips and salsa right away, good chips but the salsa quality could have been improved, came from a jar. Tacos were darn good and the cocktails poured freely. We saw lots of turtles and fish even through it was pretty windy and the water was a bit murky. 10/10 would recommend.

Exceeded expectations! A really great captain and crew took care of us during the trip. We went on the turtles and tacos excursion through NCL. The Alii Nui catamaran was a gorgeous craft. Immaculately cared for and clean. We boarded and settled in to our spot for the day, threw our stuff down and grabbed drinks from the open bar. Basically just alternating between margaritas with Grand Mariner floaters and Mai Tais all day. We snorkeled when we got to the off shore reef. The flippers and snorkel provided were all in good repair and sanitary. Didn't see any turtles, but managed to see some cool fish through some very cloudy water. After about 45 minutes we headed back, but not before stopping to see a couple humpback whales swimming nearby. The taco bar was really good with both chicken and vegetarian options. Mango salsa, sour cream, shredded cheese, hot sauces, white rice - all the stuff you would want on a taco bar! Super friendly and professional staff. Throw in for a cash tip at the end. Take this trip. It was a fun half a day on the water in gorgeous Maui.

Not only were we late getting back to the dock, but we also didn't get to partake in as many delicious drinks and snacks because we were distracted by WHALES COMING UP TO US WITHIN 5 FEET FOR OVER AN HOUR! However we were well compensated by all of Taylor's (photographer) awesome underwater pictures of the curious whales. They were so docile and genuinely curious about us and the boat. A great excursion and fun crew!

Fabulous sunset dinner cruise experience! We have gone on numerous Hawaiian boat excursions over the years and this was the best ever! Great boat, attentive crew and excellent food and drinks. Highly recommended.

This was an amazing whale watch. I think we named it "Tacos and tails". The tacos were delicious and we saw many whales. The crew was amazing, headed up by the charming captain Josh, who made sure we didn't miss any whales and sailed so smoothly despite a pretty wavy ocean. Drinks were ongoing and the lunch was warm and tasty. Everyone was friendly and helpful and we felt very pampered. Will definitely come back to Alii Nui next trip.

Awesome experience from start to finish. The four of us, me, my wife, and 2 sons, went on the 5-hour Molokini Crater snorkeling trip with Aliʻi Nui and had an absolute blast. The entire experience was beginner-friendly, very safe, and extremely well run. The snorkeling site itself was amazing. My sons and I had snorkeled in the Caribbean, Bali, and other parts of Hawaii, and Molokini checked almost all the boxes for local fish sightings. Clear water, vibrant marine life, and great conditions. What really stood out was how well they catered to my wife, who is a beginner snorkeler. The crew took great care of her, made sure she felt comfortable and safe, and kept a close eye on beginner snorkelers throughout the trip. That made a huge difference for us. On top of that: * Top-notch equipment * Excellent food * Very friendly, professional service Overall, an outstanding snorkeling experience. Highly recommended. Especially if you have beginners in your group.

Loved our experience on the sunset cruise. The boat is amazing, we loved sitting on the bean bags. The staff was exceptional! The cocktails were kind of weak but tasty. I would 100% recommend this company!

Came for the sunset & drinks. The staff were super attentive and the alcohol / drinks / appetizers were tasty. I wish we had a nicer sunset view but we had a great time anyways. Super clean and pleasant experience!

Is there a restroom on the catamaran?

Yes there are 2

Does the sunset cruise get canceled if it's raining? What is the refund policy of that happens?

Our cruise was cancelled due to a storm and they let us cancel or reschedule. We rescheduled

With a big catamaran, is it less prone to get seasick?

Yes, it is more stable than a single hull boat.

To follow up on my original question..thank you to those who have answered. I have an 18 month old, did anyone see any families with toddlers and if so how did they tolerate it? Thanks again :)

Been on the Alii Nui many times and it's always fun but NOT FOR TODDLERS. Not safe, not set up for children who cannot swim in ocean and climb safely up and down steep steps. I'd personally hate to spend $500. ( couple ) and be subjected to an… Read more

Would you recommend this for kids? It sounds awesome for my husband and I, but has anyone been on one with kids. Or is this more of a booze cruise?! Thanks ☺️

It's great for kids! There were a couple of families and there was plenty of room for everyone. No one was visibly intoxicated. Really nice safe family atmosphere. Think fairmont esque :)

The staff was all fantastic--Kayden, Sienna, Carly and Jim. The weather was great and we got to circle around Molokini. The clarity as Molokini is every bit as amazing as they say. The downsize is you are corralled into a virtual pen so you can't really drift away from the crowd to explore. You'll need to watch for human feet while you are watching the sea-life. Turtle Town was nice, but the visibility was not as good. We saw more turtles off Ka'anapali Beach and one of the wayside beaches. Still, the other part of the experience was the snorkeling and... the drinks! And the food! The watermelon mojito was our favorite, though all the drinks were great and the food likewise was excellent. I would highly recommend this experience. Sea Maui - Memorable sunsets

On our vacation to Maui last week, we took trips out to the sea with Sea Maui twice. Our first trip…read moreout was an adults-only family excursion while the kids hung out with their grandma and auntie. The catamaran was pretty sweet, with some really comfy bean bags overlooking the edge out to the ocean. While we did occasionally get splashed in this area, it was worth the unobstructed view of the sunset and the breeze in my hair. The crew was especially sweet and treated all of us like absolute royalty. A note to those who are prone to motion sickness: do not try to be brave and only wear sea bands thinking you'll be okay. Take your Dramamine an hour before you board the catamaran. While the first half of our dinner cruise was fine with my motion sickness, the second half of the trip left me feeling really queasy around dinner service time. This made me very sad. This was no fault of the crew, and 100% my fault for thinking I could tough it out. If you are ill-prepared, the crew has ginger ale, club soda and ginger chews to help. Speaking of dinner, the few bites I was able to eat on our first trip were fantastic: a full dinner buffet prepared by Cafe Jai. The salmon was perfectly tender, as was the short rib. The caesar salad was just the right amount of tangy (and the extra dressing was really great on the salmon as well.) I'm not sure what kind of sauce was on the crispy seasoned potatoes but they were absolutely delightful. And of course, the crown on top of a delicious meal was the mini brownie cup we were served for dessert before we wrapped up the trip. Our second trip (where I was prepared with some Dramamine) was a memorial for our grandparents, where we released their cremains at sea with eco-urns. I must say that the crew handled everything wonderfully. We had the full bar, another beautiful buffet spread including some delicious crispy chicken, a pesto pasta salad, pulled beef sliders, and rolls. After we said our emotional goodbyes, we were given rose petals to release into the ocean. We even received certificates after the trip that gave us the coordinates of where my grandparents cremains were released. I seriously cannot thank Sea Maui enough for giving my family a truly memorable experience on our trip to Maui. They made our trip so special. A million thanks for the kindness!

The Irish gentleman who pre-briefed us before leaving for the tour had a great sense of humor and set the tone for our excursion. Once aboard, the Captain and his crew were polite, cordial, fun loving and efficient. The food was great and the crew busied theirselves insuring everyone was comfortable, had drinks and the proper snorkeling gear. We saw many, many whales and at least 12 displays of whales big and small leaping out of the water. The hour long snorkeling provided the passengers with a myriad of tropical fish and sea turtles. We even had one try to climb the ladder into the boat. The fees for the excursion were fair and we definitely got our moneys worth for all we saw and participated in. I highly recommend The Sea Maui if you are looking for a great experience for you and your family or tour group.

The Hala tree amazed me and so did the big red flower- torch ginger, which actually looks like a vibrant staff fit for a king. I would never have learnt about them in detail if not for this trip. All this besides the actual trip to the waterfalls, the encouragement he gave to the other group was astounding (I don't swim myself unfortunately, or the fun would have tripled for me). He supported, guided, advised, and made them have the time of their life with the diving and the swimming. Three cheers to the B.Rex. Hike Maui site itself had useful info for the walk and I brought the water shoes after reading about it on their site, it really worked great out there. Pick up was right on time and the directions were pretty clear, but u could have mentioned near Kahului Park and Ride, I mistook the 8 min drive for 8 min walk, and walked up from my hotel ! Hike Maui arranged for backpacks and that was very useful too. To just it throw it on our shoulders and walk freely. The little snacks were good after the walk. The best part was the passion fruit which was handed out as a parting gift. It was my first time to eat that fruit too. Note: The waterfalls are accessible privately with rental car too. You could explore the area in your own sweet time. But I did notice there were not many signs with specific directions inside the forest. And no labels on the plants. Most places no mobile signals either. That said, you could do it on your own. I cannot say enough about this trip. It is for all ages and a great little Maui to explore comfortably.
