I also routinely get the chef's special fish, always amazing and unbelievably fresh. They also make a mean crème brûlée for dessert. Crew is always so friendly and helpful, and the cruise itself is always beautiful. Spinner dolphins, whales, rainbows and then anchoring for dinner off the top of the island. Incredible. You guys, this food was so awesome for being served on a boat in the middle of the Hawaiian see. We had a fantastic time on the sunset cruise. The sailing catamaran was large and spacious. The boat was not crowded and felt very comfortable. The boat was smooth and stable. It was spotlessly clean. We had to remove our shoes before boarding. Be aware that you need to walk a few feet through the water onto the boat. Depending on how tall you are, the water could be knee deep or waist deep. The food, though paid separate, was delicious! The dinner here was the best on our entire stay! This isn't a rowdy party boat like some of the others. This boat has a more grown up, and upscale vibe. There was live music for part of the ride but it was entertainment music, not rowdy party music. Would definitely come back again. read more

Fantastic staff and a beautiful boat. We booked an evening ride and diner. Completely wonderful experience for a 4-hour ride. The boat picked us up on the beach. There were shoes allowed on the boar, and they washed our feet. The entire place was clean, and the staff was terrific. Mattie helped us get the correct local and talked to my son about being a works traveler. We order the pasta with the catch of the day, crab cake, the surf & turf, and pasta with Ahi tuna. Every meal was amazingly prepared in the kitchen on the ship. The steak was a perfect rare, and the tuna was red in the middle. Perfect. This was one of the highlights of our trip! We loved snorkeling at Honolua Bay and saw so many varieties of fish. The service was excellent and food was delicious. I was so surprised how comfortable and exciting a catamaran tour could be. I felt very safe boarding (and deboarding) as well as walking around. The crew checked in on us and other passengers to make sure we were ok or if we needed anything. The vessel was comfortable. We didn't reserve any special seats (optional) and were perfectly comfortable at open table seating (we couldn't tell from the website if we were going to be sitting at the front of the catamaran trying to eat, and that wasn't the case). Some additional info for travelers who've not been to Maui to snorkel based on experience: Don't bother with a Molokini tour (a different tour company). We did that early on. The staff on that tour was fine, but the crater didn't have a lot to see and there were so many people that we were being bumped and kicked (inadvertently). It was a disappointment. We'd hoped that this would be enjoyable snorkeling like we had done on the Big Island near Captain Cook monument, but it was definitely not. Honolua Bay was far superior. So, I'll be honest -this is not some thing I thought I'd put in a review, but for someone who may be concerned about bathrooms on a catamaran: These are down a flight of steps that are not as sloped as the steps coming onto the catamaran; however, there are rails to hold on both sides and the steps are covered with something textured. I was rather worried about going up and down these, but it was not terrible at all. The bathroom was even cleaner and more spacious than expected. If we make it back to Maui, I'd would definitely rebook this tour in a heartbeat. We had a fabulous time! read more

Serious 4-star rating for this. My friends and I ordered our tickets and didn't know what to expect, but this was amazing. It's a gorgeous, well-kept, clean boat. Drives you along the coastline. You stop in a bay, have a chance to snorkel and/or scuba for about 2 hours, then you can order lunch from the onboard chef. The whole crew was nice, friendly, accommodating, easy-going, and relaxed. Alcohol served on board. Bring your own snacks and beverages if you want. And then after snorkeling/lunch, you get a solid 1 hour sail into the ocean before landing back at the beach. SO RELAXING. And seriously a gorgeous , clean boat and the most relaxed atmosphere ever. I would totally go on this again next time I'm in Maui. read more

November 2023 - BACK IN BUSINESS AND OPEN! Customer service: the staff was helpful and friendly. The captain gives a safety review, introduces the staff and off you go. Diving experience: the dive instructor was amazing. Without her I would not have been able to complete by scuba dive. Food: with a designated chef and limited but high class menu we had the local fish catch of the day and we're impressed. It was even better than what we got at Dukes! Boat: clean, plenty of gear for all customers, Fresh paint , clean bathrooms, places to sit or lay in the sun, or order a table for the day. Safety: yes sometimes reservations get bumped to another day when weather is incremental. This is to make sure that customers have a great experience and not go out on a boat on a day the weather bad. Some folks on our tour had been booked for the day before and rebooked. There's nothing Businesses could do about the weather but how they handle it to care for the safety of their customers is impressive. Please be patient and know this happens for YOUR GOOD! This is highly recommended. I want to preface by suggesting you prepare to be there extra early. We came from Kihei and Google maps said we would get there 10 minutes early for check in when we left. As traffic progressed getting into Lahaina we ended up BARELY making it. So do yourself a favor and leave with extra time. You board from the sand which is pretty cool, just be aware you will get a little sandy and wet. The boat was gorgeous, the staff were fantastic, and the food. THE FOOD. We had a shrimp appetizer that was excellent and then both got the surf and turf which was top tier, especially for the price. We anchored in a nice little bay and watched people do some rock jumping and enjoyed being in the water. Then we sailed back to Lahaina and ate the lava cake for dessert, which if it were socially acceptable I would have licked the plate clean. Overall 10/10, highly recommend. We ended up paying a little over $400 for the whole trip, which I think may have been more than it was worth but everything in Maui is expensive so I'm not mad at it. We don't drink and the other dinner cruises I saw had alcoholic drinks included so we wanted to choose one that didn't have us pay for something we didn't partake. And I wanted to have really good food, which we definitely got. read more

I'm giving this review because this was a weird trip and ended up being entertaining for the remainder of our vacation. If you're looking for a "below deck" feeling on a fabulous boat, with fancy a la carte dining/bar, and mediocre snorkeling you should definitely check it out. You'll have a place to sit even if you don't reserve a table. The boat arrived late to the Kaanapali beach loading spot. There was no one there or any sort of sign directing you for check in. Once loaded, the captain admitted the surf in the bay was high for snorkeling but perfect for surfing and he was wishing he was off the clock. They do give out snorkel gear but don't be fooled, that's not the real focus on the trip. There's no lifeguard that I noticed, and they served alcohol on the way to the snorkel spot. I love sailing and snorkeling so I was really looking forward to this trip. There was no sailing. The crew did not have time for that. The crew wasn't very cohesive. They didn't seem super excited to be on the boat. They changed destinations without informing us where we were going. I asked the captain about the boat. Its an interesting story. It was not at all what we were expecting. A family owned operated outfit but you wouldn't know unless you get the back story. It didn't feel like an ohana. It was weird and kinda sad. The boat is really awesome, but it was not the best snorkeling trip. This was one of three catamaran snorkel trips we took on our vacation to Maui. I would go on the boat again, but I wouldn't go on this tour again. read more

Sand at your feet. Great signature drinks and a way unique Hawaiian Ceviche with some freshly made in-house taro chips. Service staff was good and responsive. The atmosphere was delightful. Such a great sailing experience!!! The crew was very friendly with good personalities. (If you get sea sick, like I do, plan ahead for that). The reason for 3 stars is the food was over-sold in my opinion. "Best food on the island" is what they said. Whale season is over so this cruise was considered a "dinner cruise". We ordered the "jumbo" shrimp cocktail for an appetizer and nothing about the shrimp was jumbo... I only ordered because I thought they were going to be actual "jumbo" sized shrimp. They were regular size small shrimp you would find at a grocery store shrimp cocktail. For dinner, my husband ordered the daily fish special and he said it tasted good as was well cooked. But it was a small portion. I ordered the braised short rib which the chef did a very good job!! The flavor was well done and cooked well and I would definitely recommend that. The rest of the veggies and mashed potatoes were cold so that was a bummer... PS- sailed in early April and didn't see any whales except for way far in the distance we saw them spray water from their blow holes. read more

My husband and I had an amazing adventure. I tried the intro to SCUBA and I loved it so much, we are BOTH starting our SCUBA certification next week. The food on board was easily the best food we ate on our entire 15 day vacation. We also made new life long friends aboard. Everyone on board saw more whales than we did on our whale watch tour! Booked based on past reviews and we were not disappointed. Instead of loading from a beach, we were shuttled to the boat in Zodiacs because the surf was too high to launch from the beach. They did a great job of assisting two 77 year olds in spite of the awkward entry to the Zodiacs. Capt. Pete was personable and gave us a lot of information about his huge catamaran. We asked one of the zodiac drivers if they had to restrict the number of people on the boat and he said they had 46 people and have never had more than 49, even though the legal capacity is over 100. In spite of the white caps on the ocean, the ride was reasonably smooth. The snorkel site was memorable and everyone on board was helpful and courteous. Food and drinks were extra and that pushed the cost up by about 50% but still less than a similar excursion on Kawai that we have taken before. You could save money by bringing your own food and not buying drinks but that is all part of the experience. Service was excellent. All the staff wore masks but social distancing on a boat is impossible. read more

If you're debating, just do it. We love Hula Girls. We did the Romantic Sunset Cruise, buying tickets on the website for a discount just the day before (this is September though, so considered low season). 2-3 hours on the water, cruising up and down the coast allowed a gorgeous vantage. We were staying near Kahana so we went down to Kaanapali Beach and spent the day there. Parking can be pricey: don't park in Whalers Village parking is $3/half hour or $40 for the day. Yes the retail shops will validate 3 hours if you purchase something but for example, Island Vintage Coffee has a $15 minimum purchase for validation. We actually called the hotels around Kaanapali and asked about valet pricing and Marriott was the cheapest for outside guests: $10 for the whole day (cash only). This is perfect if you have kids or are staying somewhere else but still want to enjoy this area before the sailing. You just kinda hang around the beach until crowds form and you ask around about which is your sail company. The catamaran sailboat comes round the bend and basically crashes on the beach, the crew takes your shoes and you lineup and jump on. Your feet will get wet and ladies I wouldn't wear a dress (I did) because with the wind kicking up, it blows up and causes quite the show. Although you pay for the drinks and food (our sailing was light apps) it is super delicious food and great snacks before dinner. $8 cocktails and $3-4 beers. We had the Happy Hubby cocktail and the braised short ribs - divine. My husband got sea sick and had to lie down/watch the horizon most of the trip, but he didn't get sick until he went below to use the bathroom which can be disorienting and rocky if you're sensitive. Best seat is the beanie bag poofs imo. You can go up top and talk to the captain too. The crew was phenomenal and SO FAST embarking/disembarking. It was like magic how fast they got us off and took off into the sunset again. Fantastic sunset, so romantic. When you come back to the beach, all the tiki torches are lit and it feels unreal. Definitely a must. I recommend at the end of your trip. It's the perfect way to wrap up your time in Hawaii. Next time I want to do their snorkel/scuba or a longer sail (if hubby is down to try again), but I would definitely recommend to any friends or family coming. Be sure to tip, they definitely deserve it and it's important to remember this is a small business and initially just someone's dream side hustle. Bravo Hula Girls! read more

I've been to Maui many times and taken many different sailing trips. This was the first time there was an actual menu with multiple appetizer, entree, and dessert choices, along with specials of the day as well. The on board chefs are truly dedicated to putting out great food and the whole crew was super fun and helpful as well. After embarking from Kaanapali Beach in the morning (normally they start from Lahaina but it was calmer to pick people up there this time), I asked for a coffee and I got an incredible cup of Kona that had a slight smokiness to it. After whale watching and snorkeling, my wife and I had two specials of the day--seared ahi and mahi mahi. Both were cooked perfectly--the ahi had a nice panko/togarashi crust on the outside and the mahi was beautifully moist and flaky. We finished with a homemade mango gelato that actually had chunks of ripe mango in the cream. Also, we chugged really well made lava flows and mai tais during the whole trip. Bit a warning--the food is charged separately from the boarding ticket, so it's a bit more than other boat trips, but I thought it was totally worth it. read more

He claimed the whales swam away or were camera shy. We spoke to people getting off of the Terelani and the Gemini and they all saw whales. We are very disappointed. We went out with some friends & family on the morning snorkel sail. CHECK IN: On the beach fronting Whaler's Village. THE CAT: The usual catamaran with outdoor seating on the nets and benches, and covered seating with booths and a bar. The joint was very clean. SNORKEL: We dropped anchor for about 1.5 hours off of Mala Wharf in Lahaina because visibility at Honolua Bay was less. There's a collapsed pier which serves as the centerpiece. I didn't snorkel but others said they saw small sharks, turtles, and naturally fish. SCUBA is also available regardless of ability. No SNUBA. MENU: Burgers, pasta, fish, and a full bar at additional cost. BEVERAGE: Beers were $3 for domestics and $5 for imports & local brews, not bad at all. FOOD: Monchong - The fish was a little overdone and was served with rice, red bells, and hearts of palm. Flavor was gingery-savory. One of the crew members said he'd put the fish up against Mama's Fish House any day but it was far from close to it, but still good. Pesto Linguine - We received this dish by accident and what a delish mistake it was! The pasta was cooked perfect and the flavor was subtlety good. Came topped with sliced chicken breast. SERVICE: Everyone was friendly, welcoming, and professional. TIP: If you park at Whaler's Village beware because our validated ticket (with $15 purchase from a Whaler's Village merchant) totaled $18 for about 6 hours. Took another snorkel cruise and had a great time again. This is a more expensive trip than the others. We've been on trips with at least two other companies and they're all decent. All the companies get you sailing (mostly motoring), go to good snorkeling sites, and feed you. We like this one best though because the staff has always been excellent and the food, which you pay for separately, is really good. Be aware that big swells can cause trip cancellations as it can make it hazardous to board the ship on the beach. Our trip was almost cancelled for that reason, but the captain showed some skill in getting us loaded quickly and safely. Most of the trips by other companies were cancelled that day. read more

The Hula Girl catamaran is hands down the best snorkeling-sailing cruise we've ever done. The boat is exceptional. The beauty you see the moment you see it pulling into Kaanapali Beach really captures your attention. At that moment, you know you're in for a special afternoon. The crew was professional, friendly, and genuinely happy to make your day memorable. They all dressed uniformally in black, but they had the appropriate wear for the work they would be doing to host you for the day. It gave you an extra sense of how seriously they take your safety, snorkeling, and cruise needs throughout the afternoon. They were friendly and approachable and no detail was left unchecked. The Hula Girl is a shoe-free zone. They collect everyone's shoes on the beach and store them until you return. While boarding, they assist you out of the sand, onto the stairs, and direct you to a bucket of fresh water to wash the sand off. You notice why as soon as you're topside! The boat is impeccable! The white decks are spotless, the seats free of water and sand, and the glimmer takes your breath away. We knew we were in for a treat when the captain asked how many of us have sailed the Hula Girl before. Almost half of us raised our hands! There are no bad seats on this boat. Admittedly, I was nervous at first thinking we'd be fighting for prime seating. However, as the day moved on, everyone settled into a spot that suited them, and no one went without a front row seat to the deep blue waters off the Maui coast. The crew took lunch orders as soon as we were on our way. They also offered a first time scuba lesson to those who've never dove before. Seasoned divers were welcome as well. If you choose to opt in, a safety briefing was offered shortly after departure. The bar was open, while breakfast and lunch were both available to order. The food was an extra fee, but this was far better than being handed a sandwich or snack that left little to the imagination. When we ate lunch later that day, we knew why! This food was as good or better than many of the restaurants we've eaten at throughout our week! We sailed up to Honolua Bay where the snorkeling and diving excursion would take place. While we encountered some small white caps on our way over to Honolua Bay, the bay itself was calm with turquoise to deep blue waters. Very picturesque. We were allowed to jump right in off the side of the boat with our snorkel gear. Those who didn't want to walk the plank were offered a direct staircase down into the water. The snorkeling was divine. The coral was in great health and so many fish were scene throughout our snorkeling path. We even had a sea turtle swim right under us, taking his sweet ole time! After snorkeling, we headed back to the boat so the husband and kids could partake in their scuba adventure. I choose to sit this one out and instead, partook in the Happy Hubby...a lovely boat side cocktail that did not disappoint! They dove for about 20-25 minutes and admittedly, about two-thirds of the way through, I noticed how odd it was to have my entire family underwater for such a long time. But fear not, they emerged as happy clams! They were extremely fortunate to have an up close encounter with a Manta Ray! On their first scuba dive! Amazing! They were all stoked at their luck and enjoyed their first scuba adventure! Once they were topside, our lunch was ready to go and the boat headed back to Lāhainā. The food was amazing, and another round of cocktails made the trip home that much more relaxing. We found our way back to the front on the trampoline and enjoyed the breeze. The best part...they put up the sails and sailed us all the way back to Lāhainā! The breezes, shade from the sails, deep blue water rushing underneath you...it was absolutely dreamy. We can't say enough great things about our sail trip. Michelle was an amazing host. Patrick took fantastic care of my family during their scuba exploration. The grandparents loved the open water, sails up, breeze in their hair, the food, and of course, beautiful snorkeling! We couldn't have asked for a better day in (rather off the coast of) Maui!
