Do you know how hard it is to find a Lao restaurant let alone a great one?! I am blessed to have several Laotian friends whose parents and aunties and uncles and grandparents love to cook. Otherwise I am fairly certain I would not have been exposed to this cuisine. It's very similar to Thai food but more rustic with stronger flavors. Many dishes are authentically spicy like Thai food, but can usually be modified to be less spicy. However, with certain dishes- it's very hard to make it less spicy and still be authentic (like curries). Of course being Thai I seek out Thai food and Snackboxe popped up. I was even more excited that it was Laotian and received great reviews! The first time I went I had the kao paek and Lao sausage. The sausages were a tad too sweet and not as well done as I prefer. I saw several other tables order the Lao platter and I knew I had to try it the next time I returned. A few weeks later, I went back with my mom we had the sausage again, the platter, plus the pork belly laap (larb). This time the sausages were perfect! The platter is a great way to try most of the popular dishes and also a good value. The pork belly laap is awesome. I highly recommend if you like pork belly. The flavors are the same as Thai larb if you're familiar with that dish. They have two locations- this one in Duluth is newer. If you're in the mood for flavorful Asian food, then definitely check out either location of Snackboxe Bistro! read more

Ordered a Khao Poon to go. Had no real expectations going into it. Counter service was courteous and swift. After getting home and unpacking everything smelled great. Without knowing the nuances of the cuisine the closest description would be a mashup of rice noodles, but not pho rice noodles. The noodles from Crossing Bridge Rice Noodle on Pleasant Hill are a better match. Otherwise the veggies are the same as what you might get with pho, bean sprouts, mint leaves, etc. The broth is like you took a Thai red curry and watered it down to soup consistency instead of a thick gravy. The mix of flavors and textures were enjoyable, familiar, and yet new. It was a definite win. You may never have noticed this place in the corner of the shopping plaza, but you'll be missing out if you ignore it. read more

I loved everything about this restaurant from the food, the decorations, the atmosphere and the staffs. I'm Laotian and this is gourmet food for me. Everything is full of flavor and so savory! Snackboxe is my go to place when I'm lazy to cook. If I'm not dining in, I'll Uber eats the food. My favorite dish is the Lao Pho. You can't find Lao Pho here in Atlanta besides SnackBoxe and NO, all pho is not the same!! I strongly recommend you to try LAO Pho if you haven't already it's very different from Viet Pho.. it's hard to explain but once you have it you'll understand! I recommend everything on the menu. We got the tofu nam khao, jeow bong wings, and lemongrass pork ribs. The wings were the star of the show -- crispy, saucy, super flavorful, and paired extremely well with sticky rice. Tofu nam khao was also great but the lemongrass pork ribs seemed subpar compared to the other dishes (still decent). Service was quick and friendly. The restaurant decor was really cool. Came here on a Friday for lunch. It was pretty quiet, and the one waitress was super friendly. She suggested getting the Jeow bong wings with the sauce on the side so I could try the wings both plain and dressed. She was right. They were really good plain - so insanely crispy! The sauce was delicious too so you really can't go wrong. The papaya salad was tasty, but extremely spicy even at "medium". I only took a few bites and couldn't eat much more the next day at home either. The sticky rice seems to be a Laotian comfort food, but it didn't do much for me. I will go back to try other things along with the wings. They get an extra star because I've never heard of a Laotian restaurants, even in New York. I've been a long time fan of the doraville location since they opened years ago. So I was super excited to hear of their new Duluth restaurant. The location is not great. It's a bit tucked away in the corner of a shopping center and you can't really see it from the road. Really pulling for this restaurant to last! The food is exceptional. I would say it's even better than the doraville location for two reasons. First, the portions are bigger here. Second, they offer more authentic dishes on their menu. I came with my dad, who grew up in Laos and his Laotian relatives. The consensus was the food was great and authentic. Growing up eating Lao food, it was nostalgic and I loved that they cooked many of the dishes traditional style. We ordered the Lao platter and it's a perfect combination if you aren't sure what to order. It includes a little bit of everything and can feed 2 people easily. One of my favorite dishes ever is nam Khao and they do it well here. The portion was very large. We had plenty of leftovers. I will definitely be back here!! read more

Snack Box Bistro was an incredible experience. restaurant specializes in Laos cuisine, and they truly deliver on authenticity and flavor. we ordered the sticky rice, which was perfectly cooked and had a delightful texture. All meats and egg rolls were pretty good, but pork belly is fantastic. Portions are big, staff is really nice, and the desserts are good too. The waffle is interesting, it's sort of savory by itself bc it has scallions in it but the dipping sauce is sweet. My one thing: the papaya salad is veryyyy fishy. I got it without crab paste in it and it was still a little too fishy for my taste and my sister got it with crab in it and she couldn't really eat it bc it was just too much. However, for Laotian cuisine, it's supposed to be intense, so this is NOT a fault on the restaurant. This is just a precaution for customers who might not like that taste as much! Place: nice, clean place with ample parking and there is outside seating to the right of the restaurant which is really quite nice. Umbrellas and a little strip of grass and plants. Love this place! It's always so nice and clean in here. The restaurant is pretty with a lot of natural light and greens all around. The food is constantly good. I always ordered Nam Khao and papaya salad here. The Nam Khao with the satisfying crunch and a balance of savory, sweet and sour never disappointed me. The papaya salad I think is the best here. They have different levels of spicy too. I tried the plater this time and the pork belly was so good. Crunchy and juicy at the same time. I ordered take out this time. I was worried that it won't be as good but it was still delivered. They packed everything so nice and secure. Also gave me extra cabbage and sticky rice. The server took the order online was really nice and helpful. She did everything I asked for. My friends can't eat onions and I do. I mentioned it and she gave me onions on the side. The first time we went it was a weekend and the food was great and came out warm (we prefer hot but that's ok). The second time we went it was a weekday and the same food was TERRIBLE!!!! It came out COLD, not even lukewarm. All the dishes tasted drastically different and for the worse. Not sure if they changed the chef or recipe or something, it seems like they did though. And the reason I won't even think about returning and neither should you, is that the waitress told me she's the only one forced to work on weekdays (the greedy restaurant only hires one worker on weekdays smh). I'll never support a business that mistreats their poor workers that way!!!! Forcing the poor waitress to work for like 10 tables+ is despicable...certainly explains why everything came out COLD. Such a good Lao restaurant! Definitely recommend it if you like Southeast Asian food and are willing to branch out to try the flavors and cuisine Laos offers. I tried the squid on a stick (8/10), chicken skin (7/10), steak special (9/10), Mok Pha (8/10), Thai tea (10/10), and pandan brownie ice cream (10/10). I would definitely come back and try their wings and Nam Khao. I went on a weekday for dinner, and it was packed. You can tell people love this place, and there is a reason why! I moved to Marietta from Ohio last year and have been craving good Thai & Laos food. I found a Thai place in Marietta to satisfy that craving, Soi3 Thai. But Laos food was hard to find till I came upon Snackboxe on Yelp. I drove about 45 minutes to get there and prayed the entire way there, hoping for the food not to disappoint, and it didn't! The food was amazing, with big portions, and the staff, two women, were so sweet and welcoming. I got the Fried Pork Belly Platter which comes with spring rolls & papaya salad. I also ordered fried chicken skin and pumpkin-spiced Thai tea(it was seasonal, and I got it on the last day it was being offered). I was looking for something different and found this 2 location restaurant online. The 2 locations are maybe 10 miles apart and have different menus. SO I had to look over each menu. I am not an expert on Lao food but I have been to Laos, and even did a 1 day cooking class in Luang Prabang some years ago. It was lots of chopping and many dishes were finely chopped combinations and there is some of that type here but more at the Doraville location. I actually chose this location because they had this box, something like a bento box where one could get a mixture of foods for one price. It was a few dollars more than most dishes but at least I could sample more things. They had 2 options of these boxes. Cost was $17. For those that want to go all in they have a BIG combo that looked really good and probably would be a good choice if you are 2 or more as it had a lot foods on that dish and it was about the cost of 2 entrees alone. Look for it. The waitress did warn me that some of the dishes are hot, like maybe too hot for me. I said no I can take hot. Yes it was hot, but it was just the liquid poured over it, not the food itself. Now there are very flavorful hots and some that are just like hot to be hot. This was the hot to be hot. They give you these triangle that are actually cabbage quarters. Im guessing its to scoop up or some something else on. They make for a nice mix. The restaurant has an outdoor patio but it was not open as it was a cold day. There are about 6 tables out there. Overall I went just to go because it is different. Unless your Lao who whos what to expect from a true Lao restaurant unless you go! There are lots of Thai restaurants that around the country that serve Thai and have a Thai menu but for those that know you can ask for Lao dishes as they are Lao owned. This way they get a larger field of customers. So when I saw a pure Lao restaurant I had to try it. read more

Overall 4/5: Just as good as their original location in Doraville. My mom and I came in for lunch after we got massages next door. It is kind of hidden away, but we were craving some Lao food and were excited to try this new location. Food 4/5: We tried a good bit of the menu and even got takeout. We got the squid on the stick, jeow bong wings, papaya salad, and khao poon. All with sticky rice. The squid on a stick was okay, the breading kept falling off. The papaya salad was kind of too sweet for my liking. The khao poon was good and flavorful. My favorite and the star of the meal the jeow bong wings. I love the flavor of the sauce. It is melded together so well, and the kick of spice is great. Complements so well with the papaya salad and the sticky rice. The chicken was cooked perfectly and was so juicy. Definitely a must try. Service 5/5: The servers were friendly and patient. The food came out pretty fast and was hot. Our waters were full always, and she was super nice even though we ordered so much takeout. Cannot rate the food as I never received any. Walked out after 45 minutes of waiting since they delivered my tables food to another table and was only offered a 25% discount in compensation and after 15 more minutes of waiting and the food wasn't prepared yet we left. While the food looked delicious, I unfortunately could not wait around for an indefinite amount of time and did not want to give such poor service any money. Took the waitress forever to question why my table hadn't gotten any food yet but the table that walked in 5 min prior did have food. Cute store but probably the worst restaurant experience I've ever had and will not be back. Would give 0 stars if I could. Would love the chance to try to food as it looked delicious but don't want to risk giving them my money if they will just give it to another table who arrived 30 min after us. read more

Got a chance to check out the new Snackboxe location at Duluth, and if you had liked the Doraville location, you will LOVE this location. It is conveniently located just off exit 104 next to the McDonald's. The menu is still the same with a few extra addition/exclusives. I didn't take pictures as there were people out there, but this location also has a little outdoor patio that has tables for 3-4 small groups. Check it out if you want to span out from all the Pho, KBBQs, ramen, and sushi area or if the Doraville location is a bit of a drive. read more

We were early so it wasn't very crowded but they seemed to be doing a good takeout business. the place was small but well appointed and comfortable. Our server was very nice and checked on us but wasn't annoying about it. I had the khao poon and enjoyed it. My husband had the sausage and loved it. He also had the pork belly laap and liked it as well. Our friends had the Lao platter and enjoyed tasting lots of different things. It's tough to come by an actual Lao restaurant, and this place does not disappoint. Everything we ordered was really good and tasted like home. One plate is big enough for sharing, and my family and I enjoy it here. Snackboxe Bistro was really yummy! We shared the Laotian Sampler for two which came with laarb, kua mee, egg rolls, sticky rice, crispy pork belly, crispy chicken wings and papaya salad. Everything was full of tangy, sweet, and rich flavor. I loved the variety, and shared between my bf and I, we greedily sampled all the different Loatian dishes. Our favorite was the crispy pork belly, which I was pleasantly surprised by the savoriness and wasn't as fatty as I expected and the kua mee, which had a slight sweetness to it. The papaya salad was a tad on the overly salty side and all the food together tasted sodium heavy (but that could be balanced by the sticky rice). There was also so much food we had enough for lunch the next day.
