Grabbed a quick lunch at PDN. Very quiet and clean. I saw that they offer these small street food items on their menu. Banh khot. It's a mini shrimp crepe usually paired with herbs. It was actually fine. A good portion size, fresh herbs, and cost was fair. ($11) The crepe was a bit under cooked so it wasn't the best I've had and the shrimp was bland. My husband & I was planning to dine in today for our usual Pho but this time we decided to order Togo. We ordered 1 Broken Rice & 1 Vermicelli Pork bbq plate for the first time and it was not good at all. The pork bbq was so dry/tasted old, the marination of the meat wasn't good, and the vermicelli noodle was dry/hard. I only ate a few bites and couldn't eat anymore. I got Bun Bo Hue, which is my go to dish at Vietnamese restaurants, and I thought it was okay. The broth did not stand out to me like other Vietnamese restaurants in Atlanta. The pho noodles were thicker but broth was still delicious and there was alot of meat! Bun Rieu didn't have the weird fishy smell! This restaurant has become my family new favorite place to eat. We have come here every week for dinner, which is very surprising. My parents are very picky eaters and their expectations are very high. The foods here remind them of home, and most of dishes resemble what they had in Huế and Sài Gòn. Bún bò huế (Spicy Beef Noodle) is my father's favorite while cơm tắm đặc biệt is my mother's. My favorite is of course phở đặt biệt (no need for english trans). Definitely recommending "pho" if you never had them before. Not only foods are uniquely tasty but the service is 1000/100. They are nicest Vietnamese people in America (if you are Vietnamese, lol). I'm going to let u all in on a little secret. This place is the best for authentic Vietnamese food. This is my weekend getaway with wife and kids for really good food. We love go to this restaurant and then go food shopping at City Market in the same mall area. Really great staff and the food comes out quick. This is currently my go-to Vietnamese spot in the city! Was craving some good pho because it was getting a bit chilly outside and wanted something warm so I figured to try this place out (a few times). Starting with goi was really good as it had the right amount of acidity and did not skimp out on the proteins. I had ordered the combination banh mi with a combination pho. The banh mi's bread texture was perfectly fluffy but yet crispy at the ideal ratios. Banh mi filling was good and plentiful. Pho came out last and was the perfect ending because the noodles' texture seemed to be fresh instead of pre-boiled and frozen (which causes noodles to crumble easier). The broth was balanced in terms of earthy taste (greens) to sweetness. Service was more toward the notion of them leaving you to enjoy the meal and would top off the water if anything. Nothing wrong with that, so I am quite pleased with that. Interior setting was clean and I did not see any straggling tables to be cleaned up for too long during my few visits there. I did enjoy the wall décor for the comedic entertainment. Overall, would definitely recommend this place to any person that is in the mood for some good Vietnamese food. read more

Stopped by for a late lunch with my parents. We ordered some pho and bun bo hue. Service is like any typical vietnamese restaurant. The pho broth is quite clear and rich, not overwhelming with cinnamon which is good. The rare steak is from tenderloin cut which is also better than eye round cut from Pho Bac. The well done brisket was soft and tender. The noodle is the fresh thicker noodle, which I prefer over the small noodle. Overall the bowl of pho is pretty good, better than most restaurants in the surrounding area. Now the bun bo hue, it was really salty, like I had to drink a cup of water just for tasting a spoonful of broth. It was difficult for my mom to finish it as it was so salty, we tried to balance it out with some lime, but that didn't help much. read more

If there was a means of being creative, it shouldn't be with pho. Pho is pho for a reason. Any delineation of it makes for a less than stellar experience and frankly, the Pho Dai Nam Pleasant Hill location is that, the less than stellar bucolic experience. Here's the reasons why 1. The broth. It lacked the richness and depth of flavor. It seemed bland and didn't bring the levels other pho joints did. Couldn't taste any of the spices like the coriander, star anise, and it even lacked the cinnamon. It was also not very hot in terms of temp. They also added a bunch of vegetables like the cilantro and scallions as well instead of letting me add the amount I wanted. I'll admit I did like seeing culantro, lime, and the Thai basil for sure but for the most part, I'd like to add my own stuff to this instead of the pre-portioned greens. I will say, instead of the chili garlic sauce, they provide some cut up Thai chilis and crushed chili flakes and then the obvious Sriracha for that added kick so that was different in all the good ways! 2. The meat. I'm specifically talking about the tendon. Something tells me the broth is traditionally made. It seems that the broth didn't have the time it needed to sit and stew for hours on end or else the tendon wouldn't be in this chewy chunk sitting in the bowl. They served a big piece but it wasn't cooked down to the normal tender goodness you can slurp. It was this rubbery chunk of beefy fat that I'm not sure I wanted to chew on. The other portions were great though! 3. The Noodles. The were not the thin stringy strands of noodles. These were more like a fettucine style rice noodles which became soggy pretty quickly which was a let down. 4. The Temperature. It came out rather warm. Nothing about it was piping hot and that isn't the best way to enjoy pho. This to me was probably the biggest let down of this place. Overall, it wasn't bad but it wasn't good either. Hubby and I love to try different Vietnamese restaurants because sometimes you can find special dishes from certain regions. So we found this place that serves one of my favorite appetizers "bánh khốt" little mini Vietnamese style crepes with shrimp. This place in Duluth was easy to find, clean and had cute neon signs. They had this dish called "Mi Quang" which is a super popular central Vietnam dish because of the type of noodles. I had no idea what to expect but if you know anything about me, you know I LOVE noodles. Let me tell you, holy flavor bomb! It's not a super Brothy noodle dish but the flavors of pork and shrimp that's in it was so good. The richness of the noodles, chunks of pork and chicken and then you add the fresh veggies and squeeze the lime in there... simply AMAZING. They give you this side sesame chip to dip in it and it gives that extra crunch! The wait staff were on top of clearing our dishes as each item came out and refilled our drinks. What a different style of noodles than I've ever had and I'm so glad I tried it. Next was our go to "Bo lúc lắc" which translates to shaking beef. If you have never tried this, you're seriously missing out! We've had some pretty amazing shaking beef, but honestly this one may have been top 2 or the BEST one we've had.
