Danthai is a casual restaurant that has vintage asian vibes. We always love the homestyle feel when we walk in and our meals in the past have been enjoyable here. We used to go to Danthai a lot when we first moved to Lawrenceville but then switched to another, closer Thai restaurant that we felt was better. However on our most recent visit, we noticed some new menu items and while I went with the classic Pad Thai, it was really really good! I remember it being a bit underwhelming before so I wonder if things have changed since. The group I was with ordered the vegetarian spring rolls, fried tofu, and boat noodles as well. Everyone enjoyed the meals although two members of the party said the meat was overcooked and a bit chewy. Regardless, it hit the spot on a freezing cold day. I highly recommend checking out this spot and trying something different each time as the menu is vast. :) read more

Boy am I glad that I stumbled upon this great little spot in Georgia. I like Thai food but this food was especially delicious. Coconut soup was extremely tasty and just the right temperature. Siam chicken was loaded with chicken, mango and cashews. Yum Yum. Brown rice was cooked perfectly. Soft music was very relaxing. Small Thai restaurant in snellville with my wife and mother in law. It's okay inside. Nothing special or unique or cultural. My wife got a tofu pad Thai, my mother in law a panang curry with shrimp, and I got some kind of stir fry with chicken and broccoli and wide rice noodles. We all really enjoyed our meals. Spice levels were too our liking and the portion sizes were huge. I managed to finish mine since im a fatty fatty but everyone else had plenty to take home. Decent, and maybe the only decent, option for Thai in this area but I'm only saying that because options are limited in this area. This is a good one though. read more

Excited to try out Danthai with new ownership, my family have been regulars for 25 years and were sad to see Mr. Noi go. The curry puffs are back on the menu! I prefer the dough a little thinner, but the flavor was great. Basil chicken was ground just how I prefer, veggies were crisp, sauce was great. Just a little salty, but otherwise amazing. Drunken noodles left hubby wanting a little, seemed to be more soy sauce based than we are used to. Pad thai got 2 thumbs up from my little chef in training. read more

I've been coming here since I was 8 or 9... so about 30 years! I tried Golden bags here for the first time and they make some of my favorite sweet and sour chicken. I know that's super basic, but that's the kid in me! My parents LOVE the Pad Thai here and when I'm more inclined for savory over sweet, I order the Basil stir fry. When it gets a little cooler out, I look forward to trying the wonton soup, which has cabbage and cilantro in it for an added twist. read more

Heart broken after their "remodel". New owners and a few very limited upgrades to the sit down portion of the restaurant. I've been eating here since the 90's. It has always been fabulous even after the original owner man left. They still used his recipes and menus. My latest and last visit was today. I order pad Thai and left 90% of my food uneaten. Even though the new owners have "jazzed" the place up a bit they have fallen way short in regard to quality and food experience. Noi, the original owner and his wife were amazing. I am a long term customer of Danthai, at least two decades, so I was a bit apprehensive when I heard they were under new management,. The new owner assured me it was the same cook and the same delicious cuisine, and it did not disappoint. Although they did not have the red curry catfish listed on the menu as a specialty as they had before, the owner made it happen so we could have it, which has been our favorite for years. It was amazing. The catfish was so fresh and perfectly cooked. And the spice intensity was perfect as ordered, very spicy but not over the top. The interior is definitely more welcoming and it was good to see more patrons dining-in. I am ao grateful to have Danthai in my neighborhood! I've had Thai food in several major metropolitan areas, and this is without a doubt the best I've ever had. We've been eating at Danthai for perhaps a decade now, sometimes as often as once a month, other times every few months. Before tonight, our last visit was in late October 2024, just before the restaurant was sold; even though we hadn't been in nearly a year due to travel, they still remembered our order, down to which vegetables we didn't enjoy. Sad to say, the new Danthai was nothing like that. Sure, the decor and ambiance is much fancier (with prices to match) and the menu comes in a fancy folding cover, but neither the service nor, worst of all, the food, comes close. We arrived at 6:20 on Mother's Day, and the restaurant was, at most, half full. The empty tables were all unbussed. People had been waiting for an hour for carry-out orders. However, we were seated within 5 minutes and had half-filled glasses of water and had ordered within another 5. Then the wait began. About a half-hour after ordering, our appetizers (cucumber salad and fresh basil rolls) arrived; as expected, the presentation was much fancier than before, in keeping with the new decor. I found the cubed cucumber much easier to eat than the former thick half-slices, but there was only a sprig of mint on the top of the mound of cucumber, rather than many leaves spread throughout the old salad. Worse, a significant portion of the cucumber was extremely bitter. The salad also came without a serving utensil. Perhaps 10 minutes later, 2 of our 3 entrees arrived, with the other entree and the bowl of rice (also without serving utensil) arriving perhaps 5 minutes after that. The new sauce for the sweet and sour chicken can best be described as some sort of spicy, peanut-y, tomato-y sauce, neither sweet nor sour! There were fewer pineapple chunks and tomatoes and no zucchini or carrots. The overall portion size was smaller, and, of course, the price had increased. The new owners had also discontinued the dish two of us always ordered, the Yen Bang Bao Bao. About an hour after we ordered, we were done eating and began waiting for the wait/dining room staff to reappear and ask about to-go boxes and bring our check; they had not been back to our table since delivering forks and napkins about 10 minutes after we ordered and were rarely in the dining room at all--perhaps working double-duty in the kitchen? No checking in, no water refills, nothing. (At one point while we were waiting for food, the telephone rang for a minute or more before the caller gave up.) About 5 minutes after we had finished eating, one the staff reappeared and began clearing dishes and brought a to-go box, as well as offering drinks to-go on the house, which was the closest to an apology or acknowledgment of the wait and poor service we got. Another 5 minutes and we were paid an out the door (no fortune cookies anymore, either), for a total time of about an 1:15 in a half-full restaurant. Perhaps they were having an off night. But bad service, no acknowledgement or apology, changes to the menu, and, in some cases, simply bad food, is simply too much. We won't be back. It's heartbreaking that the new owners have ruined a wonderful restaurant and the 30-year legacy of the original Danthai. read more

Originally we'd wanted something else, but that place was closed, so our friends suggested Danthai. We're mostly "Go with the flow" sort of folks so we agreed and I'm REALLY glad we did. WOW this place was SO GOOD. It's a little hole in the wall kind of place in a strip mall. They know their clientele, and greeted my friends by name when we came in. We were seated at the back of the eatery, which was fine by us, quieter and we could talk. The place smelled mouthwatering, and that made everything even better. we started with dumplings and coconut chicken soup, both of which were so so very good. Nothing we ordered was hot, everything was just flavourful. Our mains were even more decadent. The fried rice had everything in it, Beef, chicken and pork (I asked for no shrimp) and my guy's curry, he ordered that Thai hot, was just that. He ate every last bit of it. Our friends also enjoyed their meal as it was absolutely divine. If this place were close to us, we'd be there frequently that they'd know our names. read more

My son and I tried Danthai tonight for the very first time. We were in the area and wanted some Thai food. I googled Thai restaurants in the area and Dathai came up with very good reviews. They were closing in 15 minutes but still took our order. When I arrived to pick up my food I was skeptical. However, once we got home and tried the food I must say I very pleased. We ordered the spicy basil chicken and the shrimp and chicken dishes. The food was delicious and they give a nice size portion for the price. We will be back! read more

I was a bit skeptical when it seemed like we were the only ones in the strip mall, but I'm so glad we decided to eat here! Danthai is a hole-in-the-wall gem that serves fresh and authentic Thai food. The tofu basil rolls were so fresh, and their sauce was everything I was looking for. I looooved their Panang curry. It had a hint of sweetness from the coconut milk and had a creamy consistency that made the spongy tofu that much better. I wish they would've added more veggies to their entrees, but that's an easy fix. I'm a harsh critic when it comes to shrimp. The pad see ew wasn't my favorite because they happened to overcook the shrimp. I imagine I'd enjoy a tofu version instead. It's traditional flavor was definitely there, though I have had a pad see ew in midtown that calls to me every time I crave Thai food. I'd love to come back and try other menu items! read more

I have been going here o er 30 years. I haven't been in a while and it is bad now. The only thing I got today vaguely worth eating were the basil rolls and they were mediocre at best. The soup didn't have coconut milk in it as expected. The curry was flat with no subtlety. The pad Thai was basic noodles and rice and the fried rice was an abomination. Add into this the prices. Sheesh. I don't recommend anymore. I won't try it again. I don't know how they are still in business if they can't make a curry. read more

This place was very good! I had the seafood boil type meal. It was mussels, shrimp, and I cannot remember what else. I asked for Thai hot and it was hot and tasty. A colleague and I split plates. The curry puffs were pretty good as was the sauce. I enjoyed the coconut soup. It was quite flavorful and full of basil. The spring roll was crispy and cooked perfectly. I was told about how great this place was, so the expectations were quite high for Danthai. This Thai restaurant is located right next to Shahi Bazaar Grocery Store in the River Oak Shopping Plaza right off Oak Rd and Five Fork Trickum Rd. The first time that I came here there was only another couple inside the restaurant. How could a place so fantastic not be busy I thought? The owner came to the door as soon as I entered, welcomed me, provided a menu and brought a craft of ice water. I ordered the Pad Thai and Tom kha kai, man both the Pad Thai and Soup were incredible. The soup here is served smoking hot, so don't burn your lips while eating it. I have now Eaton here a total of four times, twice in one week. Each time was perfect and extremely consistent. Even to-go items come well portioned in size, something that does not happen at most places. The guy who runs this place definitely knows how to provide top quality service, based on this and the quality of the food here, this place should be busy all the time. I heard this place has been in business for 30 years, which I see why. If you want another Thai dish that is not on the menu, they will make it for you here too. That is something. I'll definitely be eating here a lot on days that I do not make my lunch. The second time I visited, the just closed, but the owner had the chef make me something to-go anyhow, which was very nice of him. Had the Chiang Mai stir-fry with pork and I did not like it at all. Tasted weirdly raw and like sugar was added to it. Spicy basil stir fry with tofu was spicy indeed but to the point of covering any other flavor. Very disappointing overall. read more

We ordered the Pard Thai, Chili Beef Salad (Namtok), and Basil Chicken. The Pard Thai was just gross and there was zero taste of tamarind. I had to throw my food out. The Chili Beef Salad (Namtok) just came with meat with a few bits of mint no rice or cabbage and the meat was leathery tuff. The Basil Chicken was just ok but bland.
