5/5 Wimal Authentic Thai In town for a work trip, I stopped by Wimal Authentic Thai for some chicken fried rice and spring rolls. The location is in a decent enough spot, but I'd definitely recommend locking your car doors just to be safe. The restaurant is pretty small inside, so I went with a pickup order instead. The food was made with fresh ingredients, and the chicken fried rice was solid -- nothing mind-blowing, but a good baseline Thai-style version. The portions were average, and the spring rolls were decent too. Price-wise, it was pretty standard -- not too expensive, not a steal either. Overall, it was exactly what I ordered and expected. Would I go back? Probably if there weren't better options nearby. I did try a couple other Thai spots in the area that gave bigger portions, better value, and noticeably tastier food. Love their pad see ewe and khao soi - very flavorful, just the right seasoning and spices, and good quantity. Not the biggest fan of their pad Thai - too sweet, not enough other seasonings to balance it out. The papaya salad is a rock star though - crunchy, flavorful, spicy! Service can be a little spotty during peak dinner hour - the spot itself is small, and they get a lot of takeout/delivery orders. But the staff are really friendly and try their best. read more

Amazing! Our new favorite Thai place. Authentic and delicious. We tried soup, wings and noodles! Everything was flavorful! They can do spices on a side which is a super plus. Service was fast despite it being busy. They forgot to bring one item we ordered, but they managed it great: we asked to make it a to go order, they acknowledged the mistake, apologized and gave us a discount. Really enjoyed dinner at Wimal! Staff was very friendly. Food was very fresh, tasty and my whole red snapper was wonderfully presented and I did not have to look out for bones. The only reason I did not rate 5 is there were options for an adult beverage. Although not a fine dining restaurant there was ample seating, great lighting, you can hold a conversation in a normal tone of voice while sitting across from another person. No notes! I've been eyeing this place after seeing the good reviews but I'm not in the area often. I was ravenous after working out last night and came in for some dinner. I had the garlic pepper tofu with steamed veggies and rice and it was perfect. I ordered medium and it was just the right spice level for me. The garlic flavor comes through strong so the heat balanced the sauce nicely. Everything was cooked perfectly (I hate soggy vegetables). Even the presentation was on point with the banana leaf underneath and sprinkling on top. Service was great. Very attentive to keeping waters full and making sure I was enjoying my meal. Tried this place for the first time last night, and I was very impressed! Ordered Tom Yum soup which was delicious. Also order the garlic pepper tofu because the picture in the menu looked amazing. I am taking off one star because the dish did not look exactly like the picture in the menu, I was expecting something that looked packed with flavor, but the tofu looked just like regular fried tofu that may have been fried in some sort of sauce. PRICES ARE WAY TOO EXPENSIVE I love Pad Thai so I chose this new restaurant for a lunch with an out of town friend. She had 4 tiny egg rolls ($8) and 2 cans of soft drinks ($5) ; I ordered a "very small plate" shrimp Pad Thai ($16.70) ; Paid $38.43 (after tax and tips) for a very plain and simple lunch. A new place for us after a piano recital. I would say they are truly authentic. I got a pot and they started the fire right at my table. They had a nice kids meal but just as expensive as an adults meal but it was steak. The curry was really delightful. The service was very responsive. I will definitely come back. Wow this has been probably the best Thai food I have ever ate! We came here for dinner on a Saturday night and was surprised it wasn't as crowded but noticed a lot of takeout orders. For starters we decided to get 2 Tom Kha soup with chicken and split it among the 4 of us and an order of the cream cheese Rangoon. The soup and Rangoon's arrived within 5 minutes along with the sauces. I really liked the soup and one order of soup can easily be shared with 2 people. There was a good bit of chicken and had a nice kick to it since it was medium spicy. The rangoons were good too but on the smaller side and served with a chili sweet sauce. For our mains we went with the Masaman curry with chicken, basil fried rice with chicken and pad Thai with chicken. I really liked the masaman curry since it tasted so unique and was absolutely delicious but not too heavy! They initially brought out basil chicken instead of basil fried rice but after pointing it out, they went back and exchanged it and brought the rice out 5min later. The basil fried rice was delicious but next time I'll ask for it to be a bit spicier since it seemed mild. The pad Thai was okay but I do like that it came with strips of tofu and chicken! Adding the chili flakes on the top was a nice touch to add more spice. Overall, it was so worth the drive to go there and if I'm in the area, I'd love to come back! read more

Trying Wimal Authentic Thai Food for the first time. Dining room is still full at 1:30pm! Good, but expensive considering the portion size. Dinner sized prices for lunch sized meals. Very casual bur comfortable dining room though just a small place in a Kroger strip center. Fast, friendly service but would not be my first choice for Asian/Thai food. Good taste but small portions for the price. For example, Seafood Tom Yum hotpot was $28 but the waitress said you'd better order rice as the hotpot won't be enough to fill you up. read more

Absolutely loved this place until a few weeks ago. My daughter and my wife came down with stomach poisoning after eating some beef noodles. I wrote it off at the time. Sometimes things happen. This week, more beef/shrimp noodles, and same thing. Except now it was my wife and I. Spent all night in the bathroom. It's always good to have authentic Thai food locally without having to travel downtown and fighting traffic. My favorite dish was the beef rib broth. So much flavor! For dessert you must try the mango with sticky rice. Just fyi. Serving sizes are just right so if you plan on eating "family style/sharing", you will need to order more. read more

Highly impressed with the quality and taste of food here. He was a bit of a drive from East Atlanta but worth the travel time. We ordered 6 different dishes and couldn't tell you a bad item of the menu. The service was quick and friendly and our beverages were always filled which was good because some of the dishes have a lingering spice which is nice. For a restaurant in a strip mall the ambiance is actually pretty nice. It's clean and well laid out. 100% recommend. read more

This is the best Thai food I've had in Georgia. Sandy Plains crowd, stop what you're doing and place an order! I'm no chef, but the curry has multiple flavor layers. The spice mix is wonderful. As a soy-free vegan, I was grateful to learn they use canola oil and had lots of options for me. The egg rolls (has soy for those w/ allergies) aren't too greasy and have a great sweet and spicy pineapple sauce. The wrapper is crisp and flaky (in a delicious sense) from what I saw and heard. I don't typically love doughs, but the vegan curry puffs were a punch of curry flavor. Once of my favorite flavors wrapped in light, crispy pastry-type dough. They are known for their Massaman curry but you can't go wrong with any of the curries. They also have a fun twist on their mango sticky rice with blue rice. I haven't tried all their rices, but they offer ginger rice, sticky rice, and more. The location is a cute little spot and the decor reminds me of a Chop't, Parlour Donuts, or Hey Day-type styling. I went to Wimal a few weeks ago with family and had a great time. I started off with cream cheese rangoons as the appetizer, and it was really tasty! For the entree, I tried the chicken pad thai and the massaman curry. The chicken pad thai had decent flavor however the noodles were a bit overcooked and there was a strong fish sauce which I didn't enjoy too much. However, the massaman curry was perfect! LOVE Wimal!! The storefront they opened in has experienced a lot of restaurant changeover in the time I've lived here but I have not heard as glowing of reviews for any restaurant that's been in its place as I've heard for Wimal. The food is fresh and high quality and the interior is fancy enough for a nice dinner but also casual enough for a casual lunch. Service has always been really great. I enjoy the lunch specials although I wish they would rotate the options so I could try different entrees. I like how the lunch specials include a drink which most places do not. I also really like the dinner options and although generally more expensive than most places, the quality is by far superior. read more

I was skeptical coming in as you never know how authentic a place is...but the people working there were thai and I could hear some thai customers (and thai grannies!!) enjoying their food, which is a VERY good sign! I ordered: Boat noodle soup: I'm pretty obsessed with this dish, and every place has their own version. This version was a bit on the sweeter side--too sweet for me--and because it was to-go, the noodles were dreadfully over cooked and broke apart into chunks before I even put the soup into the bowl. They did give ample meat and vegetables though. Saku: Tapioca starch balls filled with pork. They were way smaller than I thought (6 pieces for $9), but bombs of flavor. It was weird because they looked like sad little balls with a side of kids vegetable sticks. Thai papaya salad: I asked for medium hot and they gave me thai medium hot aka SPICY! It was good though and thankfully I could handle the heat after years of training in Cali ktown (IYKYK). The thai papaya salad was very flavorful and one of the best that I've had in a long time, especially in GA. They also came with a side of vegetable sticks (cucumber and carrots). Overall, flavor is great and truly quite authentic. Do note that the portion sizes are on the smaller end (for you big eaters out there) and you pay on the higher end for these dishes. Also, strangely they do not offer pork as one of their options for noodles, and their beef are all "braised beef" as the option instead of slices. We had such a great meal here three times. It was so good we ordered it a second time in the same week and a third the following week. The snacking chicken has me in a chokehold. It is SO flavorful and satisfying. I love a skin-on chicken thigh and the sauce is perfection with all the aromatics. We try this dish everywhere we see it and this is by far the best we have ever had! We also had the pad Thai. It tasted a lot better than it looked which was a nice surprise! It was lighter in color than we were anticipating, but it was packed with flavor. The cashew chicken was good, but not our favorite. The chicken wings are pretty good, but we got one that was all bones which was disappointing. The shrimp shumai are huge and so flavorful! Definitely get those. I can't speak to the restaurant or service as we did not dine in, but we are looking forward to doing so at some point? I know I'll need more snacking chicken soon. read more

It pains me to write a negative review but my family and I ordered the green curry and the stir fried mixed vegetables for takeout. The green curry was flavorless, had no spice (despite us choosing medium spice), and had minimal vegetables. It was very soupy and left us disappointed. The mixed vegetables were good, however, we requested no fish sauce and it had a strong fishy smell, unfortunately. Overall, the food was extremely mediocre and I would not return back. We only got takeout, but it was phenomenal. I lived in Thailand for two years, so I'm pretty picky about Thai food. This place has a lot of options and some specialties from Northern / Northeastern Thailand. We ordered grilled chicken with sticky rice, which was some of the best grilled chicken I've ever had. Also got pad Thai and Shumai shrimp dumplings, and those were great too. The service at least for takeout was good. It's not a fancy place, but for this delicious of food, it's worth checking out. The food is made to order with super fresh seasonal ingredients. The service was friendly and attentive. Also nice about Wimal, their menu features some items that aren't generally found on other local Thai restaurant menus. Wimal is small and cozy. We were seated right away. Staff was very nice and friendly. The food was great. Some of the best Thai food we have had. We went with my wife and son. My wife and I are mostly vegetarian and my son is a meat eater. All the food was great. I had the spicy eggplant with tofu and it was magnificent. My son liked his chicken dishes a lot. I really wanted to like this place, but it lacked flavor and authenticity. I ordered the Stir Fried Basil Braised Beef with Medium Heat, a Pad See Ew Chicken with Medium heat, Crab Rangoons, Thai Milk Tea and 6 wings (3 Thai bbq & 3 Sweet chile). The braised beef was very gamey and the dish tasted like it was drenched in soy sauce. The Pad See ew Chicken had absolutely no flavor whatsoever ever. The Thai Milk and Crab Rangoons was average not anything to rave about. The Thai bbq wings had an odd taste (tasted nothing like bbq), and the sweet chili wings were plain breaded wings with chili sauce to dip. I wouldn't come back here EVER AGAIN! Oh, I am at a loss for words... I am truly conflicted on how to score and share my review... Let me lead with the food is/was AMAZING. It is full of flavor and spot on to quality ingredients and approach to cooking though it wasn't a 5 star experience. HOWEVER- there are some issues that need to be addressed at this restaurant. I will own that attempting to dine on a Friday night at a place that is receiving a significant amount of social media chatter was a situation that we entered in knowing there were going to be some hiccups. And, the service was not bad- the employees were really hustling to provide a great dining experience. They were overwhelmed and slammed with orders internally and externally. The footprint of the restaurant is quite small- maybe 10-12 tables total in the place. I will try to describe what I witnessed: tables full of diners plus a steady stream of persons walking in to order plus online food delivery service persons coming in to pick up orders all stacked in swarm of humanity. It was a clog of people and space that added to the chaos. We recieved our soup quickly after ordering and about 10 minutes later, our appetizer of cream cheese rangoon. The table beside us was there when we were seated and remarked to our server that they had ordered a while ago and hadn't gotten any food...It spiraled downhill in the place at that point- I recieved my entree about 15 minutes or so and after an hour after that, my partner's entree was still not served. We waved a white flag and I went up to the counter to pay. After an additional 30 minutes of waiting, I paid the tab and recieved her order in a to go box. We were there for just around 2 hours. The gentleman in charge was very apologetic and was helpful throughout the process. We heard some shouting and loud noises coming from the kitchen a couple of times during our dining experience. Nothing says hang on like a cacophony coming from behind the swinging door. We are committed to giving it another try. The food was outstanding and, again, the employees were husting. We finally got to try this place tonight (Saturday) We had a party of 6, no wait around 5pm There were a ton of people that came through for takeout so I've heard the wait on takeout can be intense but tbh just order before dinner rush! The staff were all so friendly! My mom is Thai and everyone spoke Thai that we met & she loved everything we tried We got the: Tom yum seafood: one hot pot just enough for 6 bowls filled 3/4 about. The ladle was a huge pain to use because of pot width but the soup was delicious! Not very spicy at all unless my mom asked it that way but packed with flavor and a ton of seafood. Everyone had 2+ shrimp + a scallop or calamari or mussel in their bowl Papaya salad Thai style: it's solid - plenty of fish sauce and has a good bit of green beans like it should. I'll get it actually hot next time when my parents don't come Thai steak: this was my dad's entree which he mentioned the steak was so tender and moist & he loved this. It comes with sticky rice to eat it with the sauce fried chicken with ginger rice: this was lit. The chicken skin was so crispy and the rice had a great flavor. Definitely ask for the sauce tray and cover it in nam pla & chili. It also came with a warm ginger soup which would be perfect on a cold day or just for something soothing Basil fried rice seafood: my mom ordered this and it was Soo flavorful! Rice perfectly cooked as well Mango with sticky rice: they use a flavored purple rice but the portion is enough for 2. On my first visit I tried the Garlic Pepper Stir Fry with Tofu. It was aromatic, rich with flavors and textures, and the ingredients were wholesome. My meal was satisfying and the service was perfect. I thought they did a good job creating a cozy atmosphere in the space. I thought the lights, mural, and neon were neat touches and I liked my chair's neat design, too. Overall it was a smash hit and a welcome addition to the area! Tried Wimal for the first time and I'm really happy with the new addition to the area. Initially I was a little concerned seeing all of the high prices for the food. I still wish they would lower the prices. Regardless, the food tasted great. The papaya salad tasted authentic and had just the right amount of heat if you order it medium. It had a lot of texture and variety to it. I loved the pad see ew and that it came with Chinese broccoli, which is one of my favorite foods. The portion size was just right and it was very flavorful. My wife got the mixed veggies with shrimp, and again, the flavors were tasty and there was plenty of shrimp in the dish. The service was very good. Absolutely loved Wimal! It's a halal Thai option by our house, so we were like we should check it out. The food was impressive and we all scarfed down our different dishes. I thoroughly enjoyed the khao soi! I feel like not many places even offer it! The staff took such great care of our large party. We brought guests from out of country and they took extra special care of us after we told them that. The hospitality was superb but I'll still be back for the food. Highly recommend. This is a hidden gem! Super clean and great service and the best part is the food is truly authentic. Often my family and I have difficulty finding authentic Thai places...most are fusion or the tastebuds are catered to "non-cultured" tastebuds. Their lunch menu is also totally worth it! All their dishes are too good and I'm determined to try them all. They're also well-valued. This is definitely going to be my family's Thai place! read more
