Excellence is the word I would use to describe service, sales and financial officer. They provided great guidance and amazing patience with great understanding. Brandon in Service was fantastic in getting me my appointment and breaking down what would have been involved with my former XC60 and the work would have been a lot of money. I appreciated him explaining the labor cost, parts cost and how long it would take to fix. I weighed out all options on my own and had no pressure and decided it was time to move forward to a new vehicle and I met Chris Jones whom is a Sales & Leasing Consultant early in the morning. He greeted me and agreed to help me out with selecting a new vehicle and asked my price point and helped me select a vehicle that fit my needs and daily budget. We looked at several vehicles and found the one that fits my needs a Volvo V60 and it was a T5 which is the the top tier for this model class and it was like something I have never seen or experienced before. He guided me through and answered questions about the engine, handling, and all the specs involved. Not to mention, he drove me to the bank to pick up my security deposit and had great patience with me through this process. He called up Emilia Paladino whom is a tech wizard and explained how many innovations happened since my 2011 XC60 and explained my new V60 2018 T5 VOLVO. I appreciated her explaining every button and even helping me setup the whole car and the app as well. Chris also helped me through the credit check and insurance and it was effortless. Earnest whom is a great Financial Officer broke down the payments and how it works through VOLVO Financial and even explained the Warranties and why they are worth it. I must say, thank you to all of you and you have my deepest respect. Thank you Smythe VOLVO. Truly this reflects why VOLVO should be not just a great competitor but what real service and hard work should be about. Thank you! read more

My experience with Alon Katende of Smythe Volvo was absolutely AMAZING. I began having detailed discussions over the phone prior to even stepping into the Smythe Volvo dealership. Alon was very patient and knowledgeable answering every question I had about the 2020 XC90. He knew this vehicle inside and out. Our meeting at the dealership was very informative as Alon walked me through all the features of all the models keeping me engaged with honest conversation. He came across as a very trust worthy guy and it felt comforting. After deciding on the model (RDesign XC90 T6) Alon assured me that my order would be placed and ready in approximately 3 months. The 2020 R-Design XC90 was a special order because of all the items that I wanted in the vehicle. I was more than happy to wait, and he did not pressure me to purchase a model that was already on the showroom floor. I felt he truly wanted me to be a happy buyer at the end of the day. So I signed the purchase order for my 2020 RDesign XC90 on Feb 7, 2020 right before the Covid19 Pandemic. Can I just say that during this uncertain time with all that was going on in the world, Alon Katende kept in constant contact with me providing delivery updates for my vehicle as well as answering questions over the phone and via email. I was kept abreast of all Volvo promotions and pricing that were applicable to my vehicle and there were no surprises. It was very clear from the start of meeting Alon that he takes great pride in making sure his customers are informed and happy about their purchase with no stress or confusion. Alon's patience and hard work to ensure that the customer is completely satisfied was immeasurable. I receive my XC90 and I cannot be more happy with Alon and the Smythe Volvo family. I wish anyone who reads this review will take the time to meet with Alon and the Smythe Volvo family I know you will not be disappointed. Best Regards, Lisa L read more

The best experience I've had purchasing a vehicle!! Smythe is terrific across the board with a wonderful staff; most notably ... PJ Lee, Kevin Bergeron, Emilia (sorry I forgot her last name -- but will NOT forget how to use anything in my car thanks to her) and especially Ken Beam. Ken is THE BEST ... period. He is the type of guy you want helping you making such an expensive investment. Not only did he take his time answering all my questions while I was at the dealership, he made himself available after business hours addressing additional issues/questions/concerns by cell/text. When he didn't have an on the spot answer to something, he would find out in no time and got back to me immediately. (This was totally unlike my experience with a competing Volvo dealership in East Hanover whose salespeople left me hanging for WEEKS to answer a few simple questions. Their loss!!) Ken knows how to work with his customers as he develops a rapport with you and doesn't make you feel pressured in any way. I would compare the experience to going to a car dealer with your best friend. Someone who is going to guide you and give you honest feedback not strong-arm you with their own agenda. This was the main reason I knew Ken was the guy to work with on my next new car purchase. He allowed me to find the fit which ultimately worked best for me even though I had gone into the dealership with a totally different model in mind. (Thanks Ken ... the other model would have been a monumental mistake for my needs!!) Ultimately, I ended up with an amazing car which everyone has been RAVING about. (Aptly named Thor.) I look forward to my next vehicle purchase at Smythe and seeing all my new 'friends' again. read more

am from Virginia and located a Toyota Sequoia Platinum at the Smythe Volvo dealership's used vehicles. I worked with Steve Badian in sales over the phone and through email. I found him to be courteous and prompt with his follow up. I required a lot of detail due to my location and Steve provided all the information to me so I could make a buying decision while in VA. I drove up and purchased the car. I towed it back to VA. Once back home I realized that the cruise control did not function. I took it to my Toyota dealership locally and they let me know that it would require nearly $2000.00 dollars to repair. I was waiting for my virginia tags as well so when Steve called to let me know the status of the tags I shared the news on the cruise control. While he wasn't able to ensure that they would do something about the repair he assured me that he would advocate for me. I frankly figured that distance was on the side of the dealership and they would just let it go. Much to my surprise and amazement, Robert Steinman, the Pre-Owned Manager contacted me. The owner agreed to buy the part and ship it to me for installation. They even reimbursed me for my charge to diagnose the trouble with my local Toyota dealership. I simply paid to have the part installed which I felt was very reasonable. I have owed 3 Volvo's in the past. While this wasn't a Volvo purchase I think that the follow up and integrity of the dealership should be noted. I would buy a vehicle from them again anytime. Kim read more

I was shopping for a new vehicle and found myself in the Summit area. My wife and I decided to stop in to Smythe Volvo and we are ecstatic that we did. We were greeted promptly by the receptionist Ms. Gencarelli and we were then introduced to who would be our salesman Sam Shehata. They were quite busy being the end of year sales season. Sam took his time showing us different options for vehicles. Initially we were considering a XC40 but he assessed correctly that a XC60 would serve our needs better. He was very patient with all our questions, found a XC60 with all the bells and whistles that best mimicked what is in my Lexus not to mention a color my wife and I loved at first sight, Pine Grey with the blonde interior. Never did we feel any pressure tactics throughout the process. I happened to also meet the owner Kevin Flannigan during my visit and it's safe to say he is very into his Volvo cars, not just selling them but the history as well which can be proved by some of the classics he has on display upstairs. There is a famous ad from years ago " Volvo for life" I would say it should be expanded to "Volvo family for life" after our great experience. This is not our first Volvo as we have had a few in the family over the last 30 years, this dealership was always referred to as a great place to do business and I can say it truly is, we are so happy we stopped in. Our new XC60 is an awesome ride and will be happily keeping company with our classic, heavily modified 740 Turbo SE. read more

I recently purchased a used Volvo XC60 from Smythe in New Jersey and unfortunately, my experience with the car after purchase has been disappointing. The purchasing experience was great however, Just days after the purchase, the car began to exhibit numerous issues, which required immediate and costly repairs. I was shocked that a vehicle I had just bought needed thousands of dollars in repairs, despite its seemingly solid presentation at the dealership. I was disappointed as Smythe has a great reputation and I had positive experiences with them in the past. Although I declined the dealership warranty because it was prohibitively expensive, New Jersey law mandates that dealers must uphold certain standards when selling pre-owned vehicles. Even if a car is sold "as-is," dealerships have a responsibility to ensure that vehicles meet basic safety and operability standards before sale. It seems that some due diligence was overlooked in this case. Purchasing a car is a significant investment, and consumers trust dealerships to conduct thorough inspections and disclose any known issues. I believe Smythe failed in this respect one this one. To potential buyers: be cautious and, if possible, have an independent mechanic inspect any vehicle you're considering from any dealership. For Smythe, I hope this serves as a reminder to prioritize transparency and thorough checks for all vehicles sold. read more

Sam Shehata sold me a brand new, fully loaded, 2021 XC40 R-Design in August 2020. It was a pleasure working with him. He is very knowledgeable about the cars he sells, able to easily compare and contrast other manufactures cars in the same class. The transaction was done without any difficulty (I live out of state but performed the transaction in person). My elderly father, who accompanied me (and no longer drives), was treated with compassion and respect, and kept him involved with the discussions and features of the car. This was a very nice touch and will not be forgotten. I am very happy to have been Sam's first sale at Volvo on his first day working at Smythe! He has had a long career in car sales, having most recently worked at BMW, which was again very helpful in our discussions. Sam is an gentleman and I would be very happy to purchase a car in the future from him. I plan on suggesting Sam to any of my friends or colleagues who need a Volvo in the future. Thank you very much Sam. Emilia Paladino was the delivery specialist who explained the features of the car prior to leaving the lot. She was lovely to speak with and able to review the features of the car in detail so that I was confident leaving the parking lot. I would be thrilled to be able to buy another car from Smythe Volvo in the future. I am completely satisfied. read more

I'm so grateful for Smythe Volvo! We know that can be terrifying with all the "bait & switch", "hidden fees", the dreaded "vehicle is available, the oh it just sold" after a 2hr drive shenanigans. This is not the case with Smythe Volvo. Deborah the Sales Rep. who attended us was remarkable! Smile, friendly, super sociable, and wonderful with our two daughters...my wife and I were super impressed and pleasantly amazed. We were interested in a 2014 Honda Odyssey Touring Elite that was listed as fair price on Cargurus which can mean one of two things; a. car is more expensive with hidden fees, or b. car is not as it appears. On our visit after an hour ride the car was fair for a 54k miles minivan and the also had a 2011 Honda Odyssey Touring non Elite 96k miles. My trade in had $6.5k negative equity and we had about $4k for a downpayment with rebuilding credit. Deborah did not condescend nor try to push the older minivan but worked diligently with Kevin the Finance Manager to get me approved with a decent rate for our situation. We ended up purchasing the minivan with $5k down in two days time. My entire family was super pleased to say the least. Would I recommend this dealer? YES, in a heartbeat! I thank our Lord Jesus Christ for leading us to this place and placing Deborah & Kevin in our path. God bless you guys! read more

I bought a vehicle from Smythe Volvo in March of 2021 and could not have been more impressed with my visit. I drove over an hour to get to the dealership to see a car and hopefully drive home with it that day. I had made an appointment with Sam Shehata and could not ask more out of the service he provided for me. The car I was purchasing was used and i knew it was not a huge sale for the dealership, my experience in the past has been you get pushed to the side a bit and the salesmen do not want to bothered with it. This could not of been further from the experience I had with Sam and the entire team at Smythe Volvo. I was treated like I was buying a brand new 60 thousand dollar car, and the detail that went into preparing the vehicle was impressive. Sam even took the time have his team recheck and clean the car before I left, which did not need to be done since the car was clean when I got there, but the extra step was appreciated. He even filled the gas tank for me which was almost empty because he knew I had a longer drive home. Over all top class service, I will drive an hour of my day anytime to buy another car from this dealership. If your interested in buying a car from Smythe, call and ask for Sam, you will not be disappointed. read more

In November 2020 I purchased an XC40 from Smythe Volvo as a referral from the Costco Auto Purchasing Program. I had been researching vehicles for several months in Manhattan and was not impressed by my local dealers who seem to care more about their slicked back hair and custom tailored suits than actual 'customers' walking through the doors of their newly renovated art-gallery like showrooms. Walking into Smythe Volvo you get the feeling of a down-to-earth professional dealership and as they've been around for many years their focus seems to be on customer service and reputation. The staff was professional and courteous, knowledgeable about the car's features and I was surprised with how easy and painless the overall purchasing experience was. Stephen Badian in sales was great, although not wearing an over-priced three piece suit :) he was a great listener, knew everything about the XC40 (and when he didn't - found us the answer) honest regarding delivery times (as this was custom order from the Volvo factory in Belgium) and never once made a promise that he did not meet. I believe that we got a great deal and I would highly recommend this dealer and Steve especially for those located in NYC. 5 Stars to Smythe Volvo in NJ. read more

Buying a car can be pretty overwhelming, but at Smythe Volvo, it was an easygoing experience. From my initial phone call to inquire about a listing all the way through striking the deal, going through the finances, and doing all the paper work, my time at Smythe Volvo was very pleasant. No pressure, no hassle, just friendly faces trying to help you leave a satisfied customer. My Sales Consultant Tyler Van Riper was super helpful, easy to talk to, and very considerate and was more than willing to take the time to help ease me into my decision. Even at the end of one of their busiest days, everyone was more than happy to stick it out and help me with my purchase, and I couldn't be more appreciative. When the car was ready to go, Emilia Paladino the Delivery Specialist gave me a comprehensive overview of all of its features and was very enthusiastic and informative. Usually, when making big life decisions like purchasing a car, it weighs on me for a while after if I made a good choice or not, but when I drove off the lot in my new Volvo S60, I was more than satisfied with my decision. I owe that great experience to the fine folks at Smythe Volvo, and will absolutely be bringing my business back in the future. read more

Great dealer experiences are hard to come by - Smythe Volvo is absolutely the exception. The energy at the dealership is fantastic- you can tell all of the employees genuinely like their jobs and believe in creating a seamless experience. Car buying is normally a sort of stressful experience for me- I am a busy full time working mom- I am always short on time and skeptical of the "dealer experience." The evening I had at Smythe Volvo completely changed my perception. I sat with Kevin and Debbie and they both made me feel like I was spending time with friends. Kevin recommended options he truly thought were going to work for me and my lifestyle and explained all the pertinent information in perfect detail. There was zero pressure, honesty from both and they were so respectful of my time and preferences. Debbie is a special "gem". Knowing I was in a little bit of a rush to get home before bedtime, she took the time to set up my car for me personalizing even the sound settings and adding little tassels to my keys. Every time I look at them I smile and think of her! Thank you Smythe Volvo! We Love you guys! (The Mastersons) read more

I had the pleasure of working with Steven when purchasing my new car, and I could not be more impressed and gracious to have had the opportunity to work with such a wonderful individual. From the moment I walked onto the lot, Steven was friendly, professional, and genuinely listened to what I was looking for and went above and beyond to get me the car I wanted. He took the time to answer any and all questions and made the entire process possible. There were a lot of bumps throughout the purchase, entirely my fault, and he helped navigate me through every issue encountered to ensure I was able to purchase the car I wanted. His knowledge and dedication to customer satisfaction were what stood out most. I walked away feeling confident in my purchase and truly valued as a customer. The entire team at Smythe Volvo was incredible including the manager. Highly recommend Steven if you are looking for a trust-worthy salesman who will ensure your happiness. Thanks, Steven!!! Also, the facility is beautiful and is in a safe area. -Michelle C. read more

I have bought an S60 a couple of years back and wanted to get an SUV this time. Everything was looking great until Eric Kulawczyk promised to deliver what I wanted and well............ he did not deliver to say the least! I called back after a week and nothing, I called 2 weeks later and I got nothing but BS, all kinds of excuses and the typical BS. I wasted my time and became extremely aggravated with the lack of communication from the promises of this guy ( Eric Kulawczyk) I recently took my S60 for service and after taking it for new tires, I noticed that the bottom engine splash guard was missing. I contacted the dealer and after a couple of weeks of the BS............ again nothing. I have told everyone that I know what had happened and encourage everyone to buy somewhere else. Whatever happened to customer service!!!! I will tell you.............. it's non existent......... and its all about the mighty dollar!!!!! You suck!!!! Shame on you!!! read more

My wife and I are long time (approx. 20 years), satisfied/repeat Symthe customers. So no need to tout the quality of the product. But we had never leased a car during a global pandemic. What made this lease experience, as a result, stand out from the rest was the quality of the sales experience. We expressed very strong Covid-related health concerns to Steve Badian, our salesperson. Steve didn't miss a beat in expressing his understanding and then acting upon it. Long story-short, Steve arranged for the paperwork exchange session to take place at Smythe's upper floor conference room. He assured us the room would be sanitized and take place with the exterior door open for air circulation. Paying attention to details like that impressed us very much. As suggested, we are loyal Volvo drivers. It was the sales experience that really made the difference in this lease transaction. Thank you Steve! read more
