BMW Of Morristown told me at a regular maintenance appointment that I needed a four wheel alignment and road force balance. They wanted to charge me $ 474 for the job. Seemed high (it's BMW after all). I decided to shop around called Sack's Shell. The gentleman told me he'll see what needed to be done and that the road force balance was highly unlikely if I didn't feel vibrations while driving (I didn't). Turns out all I needed was a tire rotation, for a grand total of $25. Take that BMW of Morristown! I highly recommend Sack's Shell since originally they told me what a wheel alignment would cost but then told me all I needed was a lower cost alternative of a tire rotation rather than charging me more for no reason. They're honest here and complete the work in a timely fashion and are very nice! read more

I brought my vehicle to Sack's for some general maintenance--an oil change, a change of brake fluid, a change of radiator coolant, installation of a set of Koni FSD shocks I had purchased for the vehicle, tire rotation, and wheel alignment--who knows what those potholes have been doing. Normally, they would give rides to close by work locations. However, Florham Park was deemed a bit far. So I opted for a cab. My car was left there for the entire day. While at work, I was half expecting them to call at some point to give some type of status update on the car. But instead, I called them around 5 pm (they close at 6 pm). They said they would be taking probably about 30 more minutes to finish up with the vehicle. I was hoping they'd at least give me a call once they completed the work. But the phone never rang. I'll drive around for 90 days before updating this review. They have a 90 day warranty on their parts and labor. But so far, so good. Their general maintenance prices are on point, and the suspension work that they did seems fair given the amount of work required. I'm quite satisfied thus far. Edit: Another item to note is that after they performed the coolant flush, they apparently did not properly check the coolant level on refill. The day after maintenance, I got a check coolant warning on the computer. Checking the coolant myself, it was indeed low, so I refilled as necessary. It's advised that you double check your mechanic's work for simple oversights such as these (especially if it's a busy shop). read more

Having recently bought a 2010 Chevy Impala from Zoom Auto in Parsippany I quickly discovered a bunch of hidden issues. No surprise there, the most challenging however were the oil leaks which quickly surfaced. It was diagnosed incorrectly 3x by auto repair shops such as MAVIS, Pep Boys and Firestone. MAVIS said it was from an oil plug washer and then Pep Boys wanted to replace the upper and lower intake manifold gaskets for $3300. and then Firestone said it was a transmission leak and sent me to Denville Transmission where Rob strongly recommended "SACKS SHELL" as he stated it was definitely an engine leak and not a transmission issue. From the start, I will tell you Bryan's confidence and honesty was impressive. He was assuring me that the owner, Fred, was honest and a straight shooter. He explained oil leaks are commonly coming from more than one source and the solution was likely going to be a process. After an inspection, Fred, the owner, felt the major leak was from the oil pan gasket so his expert mechanic Paul replaced same which slowed the leak down a lot. However, Fred was very scientific in his approach and I felt a partnership developed to be thorough and that a follow up was needed so we agreed to add new dye back into the engine oil to follow up for possibly more sources of the oil leakage. Sure enough it wasn't done leaking, this time it was revealed that the main rear engine seal was also leaking. His other expert mechanic, Lupe successfully did that job. You guessed it, there was still one more leak, it turned out to be a transmission cooler fitting on the transmission side which Fred was gracious enough not to charge me for that minor repair. The bottom line is that Fred has a great crew with tons of experience and everyone of them I found to be honest, responsive, reliable and professional in every way. Fred runs a terrific business and his prices are fair and reasonable. I plan on going there again and again... it was a refreshing and great experience. After speaking to Fred on a Saturday afternoon regarding road noise coming from the front of the car, he thought he knew the issue (alignment) and offered to take it in at 8am on Monday. I have had Sacks Shell fix three different cars for me in the last two years. Two brake jobs and some electrical work. Each time, the car was done on time at a very good price. When I had a follow on issue with the electrical work since it was a very old car, it was not a problem and they just resolved it no questions asked. Real old time integrity.
