We packed the stuff ourselves, but Jesus and his 2 man team wrapped every piece of furniture, and loaded a full garage and little house into a 22 ft truck ( we should of rented a 26 footer really) But they worked so fast and efficient. It makes me sad writing this review because I had a great experience with Smooth Movers in the past. However, my latest experience was not great. I moved from Santa Monica (1 bed/1 bath apartment) to El Segundo (1 bed/1 bath house) in December 2019. My dad was in a networking group with the owner of Smooth Movers and recommended them to me. Their price was very fair and their guys did a great job! They were super quick, careful, and were able to maneuver our large couch into our new house when it looked like it wasn't going to fit. The entire move took 3 hours including about 35-40 minutes of transit time. Amazing! Since we had such a great experience with them last time, we decided to use them again when we moved from El Segundo to Manhattan Beach a few weeks ago. I contacted them ahead of time to let them know everything that needed to be moved. Additionally, I asked if they could move our washer and dryer, install a stacking kit (since we have to stack them at the new house), and reconnect everything. They assured me this would be no problem if I had all of the materials needed (I did). We get to the day of the move and they show up in a van (not a moving truck). I'm nervous but optimistic that everything would fit. They start wrapping everything and it instantly becomes clear that one of the guys has little to no experience moving before. The other guy had to talk him through everything and let him know what to do (not very comforting). This slows things down and it quickly becomes apparent that they move much slower than the guys we had last time (which is frustrating when you're paying by the hour). The van starts filling up and they let me know that not everything is going to fit in the van. We even filled up our cars with some furniture and moved things to the new house ourselves that I told Smooth Movers they would need to move when I reached out initially. So they severely underestimated the space they would need to move our stuff. Therefore, we had to make two trips to move everything, again, taking up extra time and we're paying by the hour. We get to the new house (5 minutes away) and they can't park in front of our house since it's on a hill. Not a huge deal but it adds time when they have to walk a good distance from the van to our house so again adding more $$. We get to setting up the washer and dryer and the guys tell me they have no idea what a stacking kit is and how to install it. I specifically asked about this ahead of time and was told this would be no problem so this was very concerning. They ended up "installing" it and stacking the washer and dryer. When it got to connecting everything, they told me they needed plumbers tape. No problem, I ran to Home Deport and picked some up. When I got back, they then alerted me that they needed another part to hook up the dryer. They told me what I needed to get and I went back to Home Depot to get it. Once I returned, they said it's not the correct piece and they had to leave to get to another job. Later we went back to Home Depot to find out the piece he told me to get was the wrong size so of course it wasn't the correct piece! Did they do this on purpose to charge us more for the time I spent at Home Deport? Not sure... Anyways, the move ended up taking 6 HOURS, double the time it took for the move from Santa Monica to El Segundo with about the same amount of stuff and 30-35 minutes less of transit time! Insane!!!! Also, I still had a washer and dryer that weren't set up so they didn't complete the job. Feeling completely ripped off, I contacted Smooth Movers and let them know about my experience. To their credit, they came out immediately after I called to finish hooking up my washer and dryer. However, they said they would talk to the owner to see what they could do about the amount of time the move took and sending a van too small to hold all of our stuff for the move. Of course, I never heard back so I called to see what the status was. I never heard back so now I'm stuck severely overpaying for poor service. read more

Let's get real - moving is stressful! Thank goodness we hired Smooth Movers! We hired Smooth Movers to help us move when we found a new location for our recording studio. Most of the things we needed moved were big, heavy, delicate, and not to mention expensive equipment that needed to be handled with great care. Jesus helped us, and he completely understood our concern. All of our stuff was properly wrapped and carried safely to the two trucks they brought. I usually get pretty worried when someone is handling our expensive equipment, but Jesus had everything under control and he made me feel very comfortable. Great group of guys hustling to get the work done. I estimated three hours, booked them at their minimum, but it took longer as I had more things to move than expected. They never took a break and powered through it. They took great care to furniture pad all breakables, communicated well any concerns, and cleaned up behind themselves. I didn't need their set up service, but I suppose they can do it all if you need. These guys were nice and friendly, local from Santa Monica, complete opposite from other companies that are based across town that seem to find their helpers from Craig's list or from outside Home Depot. These guys rocks. I have used several moving companies but nothing can be compared to their service and price. I got their reference from Ian the man (look in yelp) for an emergency move work. Lucas has responded in minutes and we had set a date and time. They showed up, all meaning business and hard work. Got their shoulder together and got the job done. Best part is they also appliance moving experts, they were able to take a wide 27cube side by side fridge that is very heavy and has lots of indoor wiring and plumbing, nothing was too intimidating for them. And most places said they couldn't/wouldn't move my armoire, because it's huge, fragile, and difficult. The owner of Smooth Movers came and looked at it and said no problem. Five stars for Smooth Movers! Truly as smooth as it gets. I contacted Lucas late Friday afternoon and received a quote in less than a minute. I'm originally from Texas, so over the past four years living in LA, I've managed to accumulate more and more stuff. I needed to move two large luggages, six large bins, seven or so full large trash bags, a TV, some miscellaneous appliances, plus a twin size mattress and a bedframe that couldn't be disassembled. The amount of stuff I had to move was too much for me to transport in a sedan or an SUV but not enough to justify paying for a moving van that charged hourly with a three hour minimum. Smooth Movers was by far the most affordable option, and they even gave me a flat rate for my quote! Lucas and Jesus arrived right on time and got right to work. They were no nonsense when it came to their job but kept the atmosphere light and friendly by striking up conversation. They even humored me and my dorm living situation, which requires constant swiping in and out of the building. I never had to lift a finger. All I did was stand outside by the moving van to make sure they didn't get ticketed. They were even okay with stopping by another address to pick up more of the stuff I was storing. They got the stuff into my new apartment even faster than moving out. I was still standing watch of the van until they finished moving everything in, but I wanted them to help me situate the furniture because I can't do heavy lifting. Imagine my surprise when my bed was already situated in the exact spot I wanted it. Lucas and Jesus even took the liberty of giving all of my things a home: shoes by the front door, TV by the fireplace, dishes in the kitchen etc. They even had my lamp set up, plugged in, and switched on for a homey touch. They finished the job in less than two hours and saved me $100+ compared to the other quotes I received. My girlfriend had used this company a couple of times in the past when they were just starting out, and swore by them profusely. When it came time for us to move, we gave them a call for our move. Immediately, Lucas remembered who she was, and was extremely friendly and thanked us for keeping him in mind for our moving needs.
