I'm up in Florence for work and my group decided to try Smokin' This and That for lunch. The reviews were solid but when we went on a Tuesday, we were a bit concerned because there was nobody there... Peak lunch hour. So either it's just not popular for lunch or it was just an off day. Our group ordered and we were relieved as 4 more patrons walked in... But even during our stay, no more people came in. Well... Our group ate our words and stuffed our faces with some really good barbecue. We all mostly got sandwiches but these sandwiches were huge honking sandwiches. I think our waitress said it was half a pound. I ordered the brisket sandwich and macaroni and cheese. The mac and cheese was creamy and warm. I was hoping for a sharper bite of cheese flavor but it was still good nonetheless. The brisket sandwich was really really good. It wasn't sliced brisket but was more "pulled" consistency, like pulled pork. It was moist and tender (not dry at all). The sauce was perfectly sweet and complimented the smoky, rich brisket. My colleagues couldn't finish theirs but one ordered the chicken sandwich and another a pork. All of them were pulled consistency and had excellent flavor of their respective meat (chicken and pork) but I preferred the brisket. Definitely the best BBQ spot in the area. Love the potato salad here. All of the meats I've tried have been good. Mac and cheese is tasty and good sweet tea (a must at BBQ). The service is very hit or miss. Every time I've been here they rush you through ordering and sometimes seem annoyed that you are even there. Our most recent visit the worker was very attentive to us but we've also had the worker roll her eyes at us when we asked for things and made us feel uncomfortable enough it made me not want to come back in. read more

I was in the mood to try something new so I looked up restaurants in area. Walking in was underwhelming. It is huge and looks like it could be really fun with games for kids to play. There were only a couple of other people there though. It was around 1pm on a Sunday. I'm not sure if it's busier at other times. I wasn't sure what we would like, so we ordered 2 meat plates. Sharing, this let my husband and I try the chicken, pulled pork, brisket, and ribs. There were 2 different sauces to try. One was super sweet. The other is supposed to be spicy but isn't. I think that one was the best but I wasn't actually impressed with either. I wish we would have tried the tacos or something where the meat didn't have to shine on its own. It might have called for a higher rating. The service was great. The server was friendly. It makes me want to like the place more. For sides we both got the Cole slaw which was a mistake. It is pretty tangy and might be good with the meat in a sandwich... but isn't wonderful on its own. My husband didn't think so either. His Mac and cheese was good. The only thing we both agreed was great was the potato salad. That plus the service and the ambiance makes me think it's worth another chance if I'm in the area again. read more

We were in town from Florida for a bengals game and decided to make the drive down to try this place because the reviews were decent. What a mistake. Positives first: the server was nice. Negatives second: the smoked wings were undercooked, the skin was leathery and chewy, my son who eats anything refused to eat them. The brisket doesn't come sliced only pulled and tasted more like pot roast from Cracker Barrel than a smoked brisket from a BBQ spot, I ended up just throwing it away. the wife ordered the brisket sandwich which was so wet that the bottom bun was inedible defeating the purpose of ordering a sandwich and she also threw hers away. Overall extremely disappointing and I can't understand how or why the reviews are so good. There's definitely a disconnect happening somewhere or the reviews are payed for. read more

Stopped here as we were on the road and were quite disappointed. We ordered the sandwiches -- one pork and one brisket. While the portion sizes were more than adequate, the flavor was incredibly bland. There are no spices or rub added to it at all-- just the smoke flavor. The pork was moist, but the brisket was a bit dry. We tried both the signature sauce and the "little spice" sauce and neither was anything to write home about. But then we got to the cole slaw and baked beans. I have no idea how they did it, but then cole slaw had absolutely no flavor at all. We tried adding salt and pepper, but it still was bland. And the baked beans tasted straight from a can with nothing added to enhance the flavor. Gave it two stars only because the pork was moist and the young lady who served us was nice. read more

I'm glad we overlooked the recent low-rating reviews, because everyone really enjoyed this place. Service: There were three workers and we only interacted with two, but the service was top notch. Super friendly, welcoming, and helpful. Ambiance: Military-themed restaurant. I've never seen anything like it. It was different but cool. There's even slot machines inside lol. Would love to come on a night with live music if they do that (there's a stage). Loved the music they played on the speakers. When we walked in we could smell the wonderful smell of smoked meat. We enjoyed the taco special. We tried the brisket, the chicken, the pork and the rib tacos. They were all delicious! The meat was moist and plentiful. We also had a side of mac and cheese. It was piping hot and creamy. They have a large menu to choose from and reasonably priced. Had a late dinner here for the first time with my spouse on 5/28 about 8:15pm. As a disabled veteran I had heard rave reviews about this place, and their support for the military. . It was apparent the lady at the counter did not want to be there, and that our mere presence seemed to bother her. I did not expect anyone to kiss my fourth point of contact but I felt disrespected by the complete lack of customer service skills. This establishment was completely empty except for another family. 4 of us got 4 different meals. The smoked wings that "doesn't need ranch" was the driest thing ever. Pulled pork was so mushy. Potatoes were almost cooked while frozen then served. We ordered the 2 brisket mac n cheese and 6 wings! received pulled pork when told server about the meat mixup she told us that's brisket. I know what I'm doing, No it wasn't brisket!! Have never been treated like this before at a reasturant. This experience topped them all. They asked if it was our first time and when we said yes they brought out a tray with brisket, chicken, pork and ribs for us to taste! Taco Tuesday they offer buy 2 tacos get one free. Hubby ordered chicken, pork and brisket tacos. I got pork, brisket and rib tacos. Daughter #1 got 2 brisket tacos and Daughter #3 snagged the free chicken taco. Daughter #2 splurged with a half rack of ribs (enough for her dinner too ). Everything was great! Hubby said the chicken was dry but he loved the brisket and pork. We came in at 615 on a Saturday night and while only about 6 tables were full they had a huge line of about 15 of us. Tracy and Ashley did AMAZING! They kept up with all the guests orders, kept smiling (even though they were definitely stressed, as they told us the only had 3 tables all day until this rush) but they worked SO HARD to make everyone happy. The food was also good. We got two orders of tacos, some pulled pork, the loaded potatoes and some chocolate bacon. We are a military family (our dad, a Marine Captain, retired after 21 years and just recently passed away). We were so excited to see such a pro military establishment. The service was exceptional. The staff was friendly and informative - they offered samples of the different meats, and they even had a small beer memorial set up to honor the 13 US Marines who were KIA (August 2021). The owner was present and asked if I had served as they were giving away free meals for the Marine Corp 246th birthday. I have not but have the most respect for those that do. Would I go back? Sure, mostly for the people. The barbecue was average at best. I was traveling through the area, and love to try the local bbq as a litmus test of what I'm at. This joint was highly recommended on Yelp, so I decided to give it a shot. Parking was simple, and the free lot was pretty empty. Upon walking in, it's basically a bar/sports bar. There were no other people eating, and two guys at the bar. The bartender greeted me immediately, and helped me order. Everything is a la carte. After I ordered my brisket, Mac n cheese, and a beer, I grabbed a spot at the bar to wait for my food. Service was so prompt it raised a red flag in my mind. By the time I sat down, my plate was ready in front of me. How exactly you can get brisket, sides, and a beer served that fast is beyond me. When I saw it, the first clue was there. The brisket is much more like a shredded roast beef. I didn't notice smoke rings, classic brisket texture, or slices. It was shredded. In all my bbq eating years, this is the first time I had it like that. Was it bad? Not at all. Way better than a poke in the eye. Just not what I was expecting. The macaroni was average as well.
