Called the same day and talked to the owner who was fantastic. I said I needed a smog check done on my car and he said I could come in the same day. I paid $65ish because they were running a promotion. I would definitely recommend them to anyone who needs theirs done. Thank you! read more

My Initial review has been changed because of Ken! I clld in expecting to get the same rude guy that's been there for years but was pleasantly surprised! Ken has great customer service and was just super cool! I told him I'd be in after work around 5pm. I pulled up, nobody there but me, but then again it's almost 100 degrees outside right now. I'm glad I gave them another shot. My review score went from a 1 to 5!! I appreciate you Ken and good looking out on the discount. read more

I came in without an appointment and they were able to take me after a few cars had finished up. It took no more than maybe 30 minutes to get my smog check done super quick and easy. read more

I needed a smog for my car and was able to schedule a same day appointment. The process was super easy and by far the quickest I've ever gotten in and out of a smog. I will definitely come back here and recommend to others. read more

I don't do many service reviews, but Smog Star Express is as explanatory as it gets. Went in for a quick smog check, they popped the hood and went in with the tech. I lounged in the parking lot with a fellow Raiders fan, he and his Mercedes were out of there in less than a fifteen minute span. My car passed with flying colors. I paid the bill of sale and said thank you sir! read more

Very helpful during the week. The technician went out of his way to help. Forget Saturday service. read more

Dude was friendly. Just took about an hour because there was only one guy working on a Sunday and he was both the office receptionist and the mechanic lol. He was trying to do two cars at a time and doing the best he could, but still took me an hour when all was said and done. I dunno they should hire another person to help him out. Maybe it's not like that on other days, this was the Sunday weeks before registration is due so... your mileage may vary. read more

Good experience getting the annual smog check. There was a lunch hour rush of four car in front of me, and still I was out in about 40 minutes. Approximately processing of ten minutes per car. I would say that's pretty fast. There was a continued stream of cars coming while I was there;, so this place is popular (at least during the lunch hour). Tells me that this is the place to go. Kevin the tech and receptionist did it all by himself. I'm not sure if he's the person folks are complaining about not having a good bed side manner, but I think he was straightforward, efficient and polite. Would go here again - though the price is high at $80 for the smog check when I went. read more

The gentleman that works here is a very good guy. He knows what he is doing. He doesn't take too long either he gets you in and out. I like going here. It's a good place. read more

Quick, easy service, with no wait!! Second time here and never disappointed!! There's even a nice little waiting area outside.

They advertised they also register your car for you. NOT TRUE! But guess what? I saved $35.00 by not registrating it there, that is if they were true to their word. Instead I registered for free on the phone at the the DMV. Smog Star Express may have changed their policy though and just forgot to update their site. I registered it at a different star station last time but I don't remember the cost . read more

got smog certificate - very easy and quick. Tech was very helpful on how to replace a torn hose myself. Great discount coupon online.

No good business for smog insp, expensive and waiting time is unacceptable. They are not nice with customers

This place is a rip off....he failed my car after promising a big discount over the phone because it was a 2004 model. Then he said it failed "SNAP" test for smoke & had a smal leak at the manifold. He said when I brought it back for re-test he'd give me another discount. I took the car to my mechanic they said there was nothing wrong and suggested a different smog place a block away from Smog Star - "Concord Smog Tune and Brake" (across from ARCO by Costco). The guy at Concord Smog inspected the car did the test and it passed no problems. I wasted $40.00 here, take your car somewhere else. read more

I scheduled an appointment the night before for an 8 AM smog check. Unfortunately, the technician arrived late. When they attempted to run the test, they said the OBD reader wasn't able to read my vehicle and advised me to take the vehicle elsewhere. I did so and had it smogged with no issues at a different shop. If the equipment isn't functioning properly, it's a waste of customers' time. I won't be returning here for future smogs. read more

Everything about this place is awesome. I called Ken and he was very pleasant. I told him I needed a smog test and gave him my vehicle info. He then told me the price and the special he had going today at $64, then invited me to bring my truck down. I guess his business doesn't have different prices for 4x4 trucks as the others do and try to charge ridiculously higher for that. I was in and out in less than 10 minutes and there wasn't any hidden fees whatsoever. Solid business. I'll be back and my neighbors are all superstoked to use him too. read more

Guy that was there today seems to hate his job or life. He failed my smog test because OBD2 censor showing not ready. Had to pay $70 after $10 off from coupon then told me to take it to the shop which I did right after. Mechanic said nothing was wrong with my car and maybe it was the low fuel that caused the censor to show not ready. They told me to go back to see if I could at least get a retest for free or at least a lot cheaper and if not to go somewhere else. Tried to call this place but no answer and voicemail was full. Drove there to let the tech know what the mechanic said but before I could even finish what I was saying he just told me to wait outside and that retest will be $50. I decided this place wasn't worth it and went somewhere else. Passed the test without any issues. Not going back to this place read more

This place has changed. The young kid, Christopher, whom is working today, 7/5/24 does not show any signs of wanting to be there or work there. Poor attitude, and a answers a question with his own question. Very Curt and seemed to actually slow down when my turn was approaching because of asking him about the waiting room being coned off from out front. Christopher seemed to intentionally become inefficient and not bring vehicles in systematically as my vehicle was nearing its smog check. Just an unfortunate business experience. I am hopeful that the owner reads these and coaches the staff back to a friendly business experience. Signed, Fair but Firm read more

Fast. Easy. No wait. In and out within 15 mins. Nice seating area outside in the shade.

still the best in the area - Ken was very friendly and efficient . Will be back again next year.

Buyer beware, I took my Honda to this location without realizing I had a check engine light on from the day before. The tech had me drive into the shop bay and park. I walked away and within 12 mins he called for me to pay. He stated the car failed, I remembered the check engine light was on from yesterday. Initially, he quoted me a price of $70.75. When I questioned this, he insisted that was their standard charge. I was surprised because they had only charged me $55.00 three months ago. He asked where I had gotten that price as if he were fishing for information to see if I had found it online. When I told him about the previous charge, he removed $15.00 from the total, bringing it down to $55.00 for a failed smog test. I take responsibility for bringing my car in with the check engine light on, but I can't understand why the technician didn't mention it when he checked the mileage; it was indicated on the dashboard. Instead, he just took my money. I called another shop, and they informed me that if a car fails the smog test, they only charge half the price, and then if the car is repaired, you can come back for a second smog test and pay the remaining amount. It felt like this shop was more focused on making money than on providing good service. Be wary--the shop took my $55.00 and then wanted to charge me another $40.00 for a re-smog test, totaling $95.00. What a rip-off! When I tried to discuss this with him, I felt like my concerns were not taken seriously. Word to the wise: call around and ask about their policies regarding failed smog tests and re-testing fees before committing. read more

Excellent service. In and out in 30 minutes. I will go back again and I recommend them to my friends.

I see some recent negative comments about this business and the smog tech. The Smog Tech is responsible for his tech license. He is trained to perform a service with very strict guidelines. Sometimes we pass, no issues but, sometimes minor adjustments are required. This is a TEST ONLY (very honest) and this means they don't make any repairs or adjustments to help you pass on the first attempt. Sometimes we just look for the "Cheapest" price in town and don't read the fine print. If you actually perform the required maintenance and have it serviced by a legitimate mechanic, then you should have no issues passing smog at this star smog shop. I didn't pass the first time because a hose can come loose. I replaced the dry hose with a new one with full elasticity and second test was a PASS. I appreciate his professional work and honesty. Thanks. read more

Awesome place! Quick. Easy online appointment. Vouss was super nice And respectful. Very clean place. They charge what they say they will.

4 stars out of 5 were awarded based on the following criteria: 1 star for being open on Sundays 1 star for price 1 star for having a seating area that's in the shade and plenty of parking. 1 star for having an easy to redeem coupon to save yourself some money. Only 4 stars were awarded because the shop can only smog check two cars at a time, so you may have to wait a little. Pro-tip: while you wait, you can walk to the corner grocery store located just steps away and pickup a beverage or snack. read more

Smog Star Express - Lounge area perfect for spring/summer days - Smog Check Stations Near Me - Concord, California

I had called the business and the person answering the phone quickly told me it's easier just to book an appointment online. Which I did. I have a older RV. There is a space for it on the reservation form. Put in all the information. A Week later show up to my appointment and of course the "technician" "small business owner". says he doesn't do anything older than 1999. That he totally meant to call me. Well, dude you didn't. I drove in morning traffic from another town with a recommendation and a reservation. I was going to leave it at that. Figured it was a drive, took the rig out. But then I get an email thanking me for my service. Tells me this place is completely on auto pilot. Upside it does look cleaned. Did have a seating area coned off in the parking lot. I'm not too sure about the snacks and what not that are mentioned on the website, Downside, no follow through. Apparently they have enough business and too busy to make a phone call. His comment led me to believe they knew of the reservation and again a simple phone call would have been sufficient. I could understand if I just showed up without their knowledge, but again had a reservation that was made a week out. Took my rig same day to another smog location in my town. They had no problem accommodating me and the RV. the guy was very accommodating/knowledgeable. read more

Smog Star Express - An auto response via email after service was denied because of it being a older vehicle.. he doesn't do anything older than 1999. - Smog Check Stations Near Me - Concord, California

I needed a same day smog, literally in the middle of the day before I headed to the DMV on whim without an appointment (crazy right). I didn't catch Bros name, but I called and he was super chill over the phone and told me to swing right one by. When I got there greeted me and was very pleasant. He got me in right away, smog check and registration renewal all taken care of within ,what felt like, 15 minutes, without a hassle. For the record........... I PASSED!! I think I've visited this place once before years ago but since i dont need smog checks often, I kinda forgot about it but i'm glad I remembered they existed because this was such a quick and simple experience. A win is a win. I will highly recommend! read more

I think I have to give one star to post this but today they don't deserve not even one star! I'm so upset with this place. I took my car here to get it smog and my service engine light was on, so I told the technician that it was on and he said it would not pass so I turned my car off and turned it back on and the service engine light soon was off and I told him it's off now can you try it and he said no it still would not pass I would have to take it to a mechanic I said I will pay for it. Just try it. He said no it won't pass. So I said OK. I took it to someplace else and it passed with flying colors. Just FYI the guy doesn't know what he's doing. read more
