I made the mistake of going to this shop without reading the reviews, low first, not Yelp sort, should have known better. I had a coupon from the newspaper and I asked if they would honor it and as my car was a 2009 it qualified for the $26.99 price plus the $8.25 certificate and I agreed to this. They did the smog check and the car passed easily. Then they tell me that the bill is $50.00 and point to the statement on the coupon that "extra cost may be substantial". This usually refers to 4WD, lifted or some other out of the ordinary feature. My car was an absolutely stock 2 wheel drive and because of the year didn't even require the Dyno. They were done in 5 minutes. They demanded the $50 and since I was naive enough to have trusted what they said on the coupon and not actually get a quote I had no choice but to pay. The bottom line is this place is basically a ripoff shop and they use the "extra cost may be substantial" to charge whatever they want. They have no ethics whatsoever. Have been using them for 10 years plus. They had some other guys in there before that were very friendly and remembered me. I have 3 cars and 1 truck, so I've literally brought them TONS of business from just my vehicles alone... (Lexus IS250, Chevy Silverado 1500, Hyndaui Accent, BMW 528i) Not just that but I've recommended and come down to their shop with 2 different people in the same day to get a smog, plus 2 others at different dates. 3 of them passed and 1 did not. I also did not with my 2000 chevy silverado 1500. Nothing major so far, but that's the backstory and the business I've given them thus far (1000's over the years). Well after my truck failed, I was charged $80 bucks. Never bothered to look at the website until a month later after I put my Catalytic converters in my truck. Where things go downhill for me is when I show up in my truck again - fixed and ready to go. However, I mentioned the don't pass don't pay I saw online to the OWNER, he asks "where's your coupon?"... I replied "States that on your website". I then asked him about the payment to the truck I had done and he asked me for the reciept, which was my fault for not bringing, but the same truck should show in the system... no? Either way I was treated poorly by the OWNER and wish the other guys still worked there. The fact they only take cash and check (no one carries checks anymore), plus never mentioned the pass no pay DIRECTLY LISTED ON THE WEBSITE, and then proceeds to make it sound like I need a coupon code to get it = shady and a real money hungry person. Guess what Mr VanDam Smog Center look alike, I'll spend my thousands elsewhere! You're overpriced and don't offer coupons like anyone else anyhow! Not sure how everyone else was treated, but I can't imagine I'm the only one treated like a broke, unwanted guest, that's just wasting their time. Awesomely fast and friendly service! I walked in and there were no wait, in and out in 15 mins. They honored any competitors coupons but you need to make sure that your competitor's coupons have no hidden fee. I have this coupon and my Out the door price was $35 (STAR, not Test only) as they advertised! The gentlemen there were very friendly and helpful. He helped me uncovered all the hidden fees of the coupon. I am going to post a picture of the coupon that I used. I think this one is the least confusing. Other additional fee may be applied for truck. (We brought our truck here too and it was not much difference. maybe $10 more) Anyway, this place is very reasonable, legitimate and get smog check done with certificate automatically/electronically sent to DMV. I was here twice, first time two years ago with a coupon from their website. It was not friendly but quickly over OK. This time they tried starting to work while denying to give a quote/price. Very shady communication. I was sure to pay $5-10 less somewhere else but wanted to move on quickly. They regularly charge 80! but where nice to offer me $50 for my "SUV". I'm sure my car was ok because it's in good condition, the test however took no longer than 3 minutes. When I paid (only cash) he snatched the money from my hand/wallet so fast that at the end I couldn't even be sure how many 20s he took from my hand. Honestly I was speechless. IF I overpaid 20 be happy with it. I'll never come back and I hope many others don't fall for the fake reviews and look for the real ones of real people. There are ways to determine between them. I like a tire shop nearby that is really really good. This smog check center here levels the performance of the area back to average. What do they say above? MEH there is better around! read more

Bad service. When I got there had to look around for the technician. When I found him he asked me To drive by car into the stall and open the hood. Went there because of the a coupon which said 26.99 + 8.25cert. But they charge you xtra for Star + 10 and test only + 10. Ended up paying 55 buck for a 06 toyota. They're not upfront with the price either because they will not say anything until the service is complete. You will also have to drive your car out of the stall. read more

I went to THE SMOG CENTER (address should really be 2241 Monument blvd, Suite R & S, concord) today and had the most horrible experience ever. Gave them a coupon my dad found for a smog chk, saying its $26.95 + 8.25 for the certificate...expecting a total of about $40. The guy tried to charge me $80....then finally believed that I had a coupon...so then he charged me $60 because they added on extra charges ($10 extra for being test only even tho their business is a test only center...wth? Also $10 extra for some part of the smog test that was not included?). First of all, who the heck charges $80 for smog chk? Are they serious? Yikes! I went in into "The Smog Center" to get a copy of a certificate the previous owner of the car I had just purchased had failed to provide. I had called prior to coming and said he would print me a duplicate, but seemed to disdain me. Either it was a different guy or the same angry guy when i got there who seemed resistant to speaking english. When i explained what i needed, he said "no no no, it's not theeese simple my friend". I mentioned I had called earlier and "may have talked to him". He was interrupting me halfway through to say that indeed, I was wrong about... I'm not sure and walked away. (?) I persisted and asked again. Despite no one else in the entire shop, he gives in and looks at the CA.GOV printout that said I had the test done at that shop, then asks if "I had used the lost test results to wipe my ass with or something?". Well, no... But I am using them to write your Yelp review. Additional notes: the sign "Smog Center" was written in red electrical tape in the window), and the other half of the shop was selling strange persian artifacts and what looked like knock-off persian rugs. I was at my CPA's office and drove by another smoke check station but the mechanic was lazy and didn't want to take me so I went to this place. I had been here before with my friends car and had no problems. Today the owner was very busy but squeezed me in. I saw him running around trying to minimize the wait time. Had my father go here for his older Nissan and was told his car wouldn't pass. The initial test showed really high (PPM) numbers to prove it. They offered to get it to pass for $390 if he left the car and maybe they would have it done by the end of the day. He tried to negotiate with the owner, but he was only willing to lower the estimate to $350. Luckily, he declined the service due to the high cost and no explanation what they would do to fix the car. So he took his car down to street to 'A Perfect Smog'. My father explained that the car might not pass due to the last test, but within 15 minutes the car passes SMOG! They also gave him a competitive price with no haggling. I DO Not recommend going SMOG Center. Seems like they prey on those who don't know much about cars. read more

Coupon from pennysaver said "don't pass, don't pay" and so I took my old truck there. It did fail and they did not charge me a dime. Fast service, spartan waiting area. There was a cat in the waiting area and it's fur covers the sofa, if you're allergic (I sat in the leatherette chair since I am very allergic to fur/dander; there's enough ventilation I didn't have any issues). They have two bays and had two techs when I visited. I found them friendly enough. If you want fake smiles, wireless, and free coffee, maybe this isn't the place for you but I was pleased with the service and shall return. Another reviewer complained that their final bill was higher than the advertised baseline price, but on the ad it clearly states the additional fees: 1) EFT (electronic transfer to DMV), 2) certificate fee, 3) +$10 for trucks/vans, 4) +$10 for EVAP (pre-95 vehicles), 5) +$10 for test-only -- however all SMOG places charge this way, I did not see any misinformation. FYI, there are a few restaurants within walking distance. There's also several auto mechanic shops in the same building, including RedLine auto which I use and have rated 5-stars here on Yelp. read more

I took my car to the Smog Center for the second time. First time 2 years ago and just a few days ago to have the car smogged. I was greeted very warmly. The owner and mechanics are very friendly and efficient. I was #2 in line and my car was done in no time at all. Since my car is an older one, DMV required a Star Station to smog it, which the Smog Center is. It's a strange location with antiques and cash for gold businesses at the same location. It made for interesting things to look at during the short wait. This involved a lengthy wait while other customers also stood by. The owner said their computer system was down, on both occasions. Prior to these problems I would have given them five stars. Don't come here! First the customer service is god awful! On the coupon it says fail and no charge and will match all customers prices. My SUV failed bc I didnt have a sticker on my cold air intake. I have called the manufacturer and will be getting it this week that is fine that I was failed. I dont have a problem with that. The only problem I have is actually getting charged when the coupon specifically says no charge. The guy was rude and abrasive he would not take no for an answer. I've been to damn near every smog shop in Concord and this is one of the WORST. It also doubles as a cash for gold in case you want to trade in your gypsy trinkets 1. showed up at 2pm and the two worthless employees were outside eating. i wasnt sure if they worked there or not as they didnt give us the time of day. 2. they said the owner is praying and will be out soon and we needed to move our car. We moved it on the dyno. This finally got the attention of the two idiots outside who proceded to show an interest in working on my car (which they failed the day before) 3. They shout for the owner again and both have a seat on the used couches for sale inside their shop 4. owner finally comes out and they get up. here comes the best part of this story my car is a stick THE WORKER GETS IN MY CAR AND DUMPS THE CLUTCH 4 TIMES THEN ASKS ME WHATS WRONG WITH MY CAR!!!! what an idiot. 5. I told them i put a new cat converter on my car. the next 45 minutes were spent with the two workers "looking for a number for the cat online" 6. after 2 minutes on the dyno, my car passed with amazing numbers. 7. upon failing smog the day before, the owner told me he would do a retest for $10.
