I had a really frustrating experience with Pacheco Smog. I bought a used car that already had an aftermarket intake with a CARB sticker. When I first brought it in, the technician popped the hood, saw the intake, and still went ahead with the smog test--only to fail it on the visual. I was charged around $100 and told to fix the issue and come back, and that they'd retest at 50% off. I spent time and money replacing parts to get everything right and came back expecting that discounted retest. Unfortunately, the original guy wasn't there, and the person working that day refused to honor what I was told. Instead, he said I had to pay full price again. Yes, I'll admit I didn't have my original receipt--that's on me--but the bigger issue is they didn't even try to help. The employee refused to call the owner to verify what I was told, and apparently they don't keep any record of previous visits. No system, no accountability--just "pay again." The whole situation felt unprofessional and honestly pretty shady. It seems like the priority here is collecting as much money as possible rather than treating customers fairly. first of all Pacheco smog is overpriced by about $40 I told them my car was not ready to pass smog because the evap sensor was not ready and they told me that one won't affect the test. That was a lie.. it failed because it was not ready. the Evap sensor! So now they charge me another 40 so I have to come back after I drive a few hundred miles. They charge me 105 for nothing! shady deal ! Go to Walnut Creek Smog much better and cheaper!! read more

Pacheco Smog For the first time in my life, I failed a smog check. My car had some work done and I hadn't driven it much afterward. Got a computer error saying that the catalyst wasn't ready. The service person told me to drive it as much as I could (50-60 miles) and bring it back for a recheck. I read online that it is recommended to drive 200-300 miles over the course of a few days after the battery has been disconnected in order to make the emission monitors "ready". I went 200+ miles before bringing the car back in and I passed the second time. A bit if a hassle because I didn't know how these things work. The test and the retest themselves were quick. Total cost was $61.75 (after Yelp discount) + $35 for recheck. If I had passed the first time, it would have been $70 total (61.75 + 8.25 for certificate). Been going to Pacheco Smog for years. Consistent service, walk-ins only. read more

Great experience. I needed a smog check and found this one down the road and called in. Owner confirmed he was STAR rated, only had one person in line ahead of me and each inspection took 15 minutes. This is the best car smog experience one could hope for. In and out in less than 30 minutes. I had a $10.00 coupon but a good price even without. The owner or manager -didn't ask his name or title- was one of those people you get a positive feeling from. Personable, efficient, and just a pleasant person. Also, there's a small, tidy sitting room inside and super easy parking. Still an excellent experience - I don't feel like I'm being swindled. There is hardly any wait time, they are professional and friendly, and they even park your car in a way that is very easy to get out of the parking lot when they are done. So when I got the notice recently, I scanned the reviews for a place that would do it relatively cheap, do a good job, and efficiently send me on my way. Pacheco Smog is a Star facility and is a little hard to find in the "no mans land" between Target and Highway 4, but it's well worth the time and effort (and the online coupon) to get the job done.
