I went to Meredith and she was absolutely amazing. I have blonde hair and needed highlights. I thought I was going to need a full highlight, but she told me a partial with glaze would be enough. I appreciated her honesty and I could not have been happier with how it turned out. The woman who washed my hair was also great. By the time I left the salon I felt like a new person. Would recommend to anyone!! read more

I give this place the WORST for customer Service. The Owner should stay out of the customer care business because she cannot handle people. I arrived 30 minutes early. Walked in and the girl was on the phone so I said my name. The girl hung up the phone and said you are 30 Min's early. I said OK I like to be early. Then she said I have to take your credit card because you don't have one on file. I said why? She said in case you are late or a no show. I am here now I said early and she said it's policy. I gave her the card. Little later she says you want something to drink. I said no because you just insulted me. She said it's policy. I said well you could have let me enjoy my hair cut and color and when I was leaving said oh by the way I need your card on file. She walked in the back. A bit later she and this person that said she was the owner came back to me and the owner said I hear you are unhappy. I said I had been coming here for a while now and even was here two weeks ago with my granddaughter and no one asked me for my card then. The owner said you must have been given a courtesy, it's policy. I said what ever, I gave her the card and I just want my hair done and I will never come back. The owner now is yelling at me about she no longer wants my money or me in her salon ever again. I am like "WHAT"? and continues on saying that she is calling the cops, you want me to call the police on you? I am like yes. do that. Then before she leaves tells me I have to leave and she charging my credit card for 50% of the services that were lost today. This is a expensive salon and to be treated that way, I hope she is rolling in the bucks now, because she is never getting my money. I will tell as many people possible about her. Hopefully, her attitude will change for the better. Let the person enjoy their time in the salon, then ask for the credit card and tell them it is to be held on file. You will get more with HONEY than insults. Carmen read more

I've been searching for a good salon in NOVA for awhile and decided to try Smitten based on the excellent reviews. I wasn't disappointed! Michael immediately made me feel welcome. He cut and highlighted my hair EXACTLY the way I described. He was super friendly and described all the techniques he used to style my fine and usually lifeless hair. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I usually dread getting my hair cut but can't wait to visit Smitten again =) read more

Great stylists and the cost is not crazy like most of the other salons in Clarendon. It's pretty easy to get an appointment, too.

I hate to write this review because it's only going to make it harder to get an appointment, but I absolutely love this place, and Michael is the BEST! He does my cut and partial highlights and also cuts my BF's hair, and always does an amazing job on both. He asked to try a new cut on my BF and since then, my BF has been told by many people that they LOVE how his hair is done. Michael is also super friendly and fun to be around, and the salon is high-end, very clean and trendy. The women that shampoo my hair also always give the best head massages :) Not to mention, the prices are more reasonable than a lot of other places in the area and they let you tip on your card. I've tried a lot of different salons all over the DC area and this is by far my favorite. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. read more

Melanie is the best! I've been going to her for over 2 years now even before she started Smitten. I always get compliments on my hair, especially right after I've been to her and everyone always asks where I get my "ombre" done. I trust her judgement in hiring only the best stylists, so I would have no problem recommending the other stylists to any of my friends. The salon is super clean and has great customer service. I'm excited for them to get their second location! read more

I have gone to Smitten four times now in hopes that it will be better next time. The first time the color was too dark; the second she cut my hair 1.5" shorter than I asked and told me it would grow out. It was also uneven in the back and choppy looking for a bob. Yes, I know that and it is just hair so I went back for just a color for the third time. I had to return the next day because she missed one side of my hair completely in the front. When I put my hair up it was unevenly colored when comparing both sides. She tried to explain her way out of it, but it's clearly obvious it's uneven. Also the blonde was heavily highlighted in a few pieces in the front and looked silly. She was nice and fixed it for free. I just went today and again too much blonde in the front when I asked to break it up. Second, she has no idea how to cute hair sadly. She took way too much volume and length out of my hair. Also the highlights look weird in some spots. You can see the old growth as opposed to the new highlights. It's not blended well and it's too blonde. It's not like the picture I showed her. I will now be looking for a new salon. Four chances is a fair amount. I do not recommend going to a junior stylist at this salon. Her name starts with an M. She's such a sweet girl, but needs work.....especially with cutting hair. read more

Went to see Melanie (a co-owner) for a haircut. I received a great cut for what is a really good price considering the quality of the salon and its stylists. The place was brand new and was decorated in a warm, classy manner. Everything was more than up to par impressive (even the water they offered me had a hint of lemon and cucumber... it's the little things). The lady who washed my hair was wonderful. She gave me a head massage that almost had me snoring in the chair. Melanie did a great job with the consultation and the haircut. This is going to be my new 'go-to' place. Can't wait to go back again... highly recommended. read more

Michael was wonderful, I am so happy with my haircut. I went in with a picture of a style and Michael replicated it perfectly. He went beyond other stylists I've been to and showed me exactly how to style it myself (very necessary for me!) I'll definitely be back to Smitten! read more

I followed my stylist here from Solarus Salon (recently closed, sniff) and was really, really happy with my experience. The staff was friendly, the space was great, and of course, Jana, was awesome. I am also pleased that my haircut was slightly cheaper than at Solaurs, win! read more

We can all picture this scenario... You walk into an unfamiliar salon with the anxiety of a new stylist and the frustration of a needed cut and color. On the recommendation of a friend or yelp subscriber you daringly take a leap of faith. This leap of faith landed me in the chair of Lisa Rittiner co-owner of Smitten salon and ever since, I am a believer. So the question becomes why would this thirty year old from NY who visits every so often rave about Smitten Salon. It is because this is truly a remarkable find. Smitten will ease all skepticism about a new stylist and allow one to float away in the comfort and relaxation of quality professionalism with a modishly cunning style. The service that Lisa provided was sincere and and her exquisite style and extensive knowledge was only the foundation of her many talents as a stylist. The length, waviness and thickness of my hair does not make it the most manageable, but i left with a great cut and a lot of shape. Lisa was patient and her advice was ingenious. I never questioned her recommendations in part because of her impressive reputation, her Bumble and Bumble training but more importantly, her natural God-given ability to "do hair" !! You cannot pass up this opportunity and nor should your friends and family. Visit Lisa or any of the Smitten stylists for an experience you will rave about and a hair style that will leave you wondering why you waited this long to make an appointment. The chicness and classiness of this salon, elegant decor, fashionable atmosphere and impeccable quality and service will make anyone Smitten! read more

Yay for Michael! I just saw him for my first time and I think he is inspiring me to get my hair cut more often. He was very honest with his recommendations for my hair and it looks fabulous! Even when flat ironing, my hair maintains lots of movement. I am so happy to have found a great stylist in Arlington! read more

I used to see Jana when she was with Salon Solarus and she is just as fabulous now (if not better) as she was then! Her cuts are absolutely perfect and she even does a wonderful job with color. She takes the time to listen to what you want and even makes recommendations based on what you're looking for. She is personable and oh so wonderful! I highly recommend seeing Jana BUT be sure to book your appointment in advance because her schedule fills up quickly ;) read more

I love this salon. It has a great vibe and everyone- from the receptionist to the shampoo washer to the stylist- was super friendly and outgoing. I've been a few times now and always go to Alisha. She is the best- she has a great eye for hair color and the perfect cut to fit your face. I'm always super pleased with the results and have a great experience. read more

My girlfriend gets her hair styled, colored and she always loves it! Plus I have noticed that every person (man or women) that walks in comes out estatic and like a whole new person. How do I know you may ask??! Well because I actually sit there and wait for my girlfriends hair to be done; so I have witnessed every single stylists work and I'm honestly impressed. At Smitten each stylist has a professional, unique and fabulous skills set when it comes to styling hair. See I have always been a barber shop type of guy I don't believe in salons when it comes to men haircuts due to past experiences but, that has all changed thanks to Smitten :). A bonus for all you men this including women is that at Smitten all the ladies are attractive including Michael!!! But what does it for me is that everyone has personality. So I can assure everyone that you will have a fun, entertaining, and humorous conversation; and not sit there in akward silence. Fyi they always have awesome candy!!! =) read more

Meredith is great - I've loved every haircut I've ever had from her. It's very cute inside and all members of the staff are very nice. Only downside is that it can be difficult to get an appointment - I always try to get afternoon appointments and I usually have to book three weeks out. read more

I've been coming here years and I wouldn't go anywhere else. Everyone here is great: I normally see Alicia, and I also see Liz when I can't get in with Alicia. You can't go wrong. read more

Although more geared to the female clientele, this salon definitely knows how to do men's hair as well. Just got the best haircut I have ever had from Meredith. I've been to salons across DC and Alexandria, and nothing comes close. read more

The stylist I had been going to left the salon I went to in Alexandria, so I decided to try a new place closer to my house. I came across Smitten online and it had great yelp reviews so I decided to give it a try. The receptionist scheduled me with Pam and I am so glad she did! Pam is amazing and completely understood what style I wanted. I am low maintenance when it comes to my hair and Pam gave me the perfect color for my lifestyle. I will definitely be going back to Pam. The salon is very well decorated and has a cool vibe. I loved that parking was easy! I will say it was a little expensive, but totally happy with the outcome! read more

I've been getting my haircuts from Melanie for several years now. I originally called her to help me with my style(which I desperately lacked) and she came through beyond my wildest expectations. At the time I had asked her to give me a "Band of Brothers, WWII soldier look" and she nailed it! I couldn't believe it!! Months later when I became tired of that look, I asked her to give me what she thought would look good on me. That is the style that I've been getting ever since. Never do I have to ask her to trim a little closer here or even it out over there. She hits the mark every time. My favorite part is that she is a scissor purist. Too many times have I gone to the barber and they butcher my head with clippers. She has the ability to cut my hair like no one has ever cut it in my 31 years on this planet. I highly recommend her to any guy that wants a good haircut. It's worth every penny! read more

I came in from out of town and desperately needed to get my hair cut. Upon making my appointment the staff was very friendly and accommodating. The salon itself is very close to the Clarendon metro and is very clean and chic. I had my hair done by Lisa and she did a fantastic job. She was very attentive to detail and made the hair cutting experience very fun. I highly recommend this salon!!! It has a very dedicated staff and they truly care about making your hair look great! I will certainly come back to this salon when I am in the area! read more

Recently, I had the pleasure of getting a great haircut from Michael and I recommend him wholeheartedly. He spent a long time helping to walk me through his very thoughtful recommendations and he did a fabulous job. And, in addition to being a great stylist, he has a delightful and engaging personality. The staff and atmosphere at Smitten are top notch and I look forward to many return visits. read more

Awesome cut, fabulous color!! Melanie is an amazing stylist and a super-friendly person. Will definitely come back.

a little on the more expensive side but totally worth it! Awesome hairdressers, awesome location, job well done. Would highly recommend!

Love my haircut from Lisa! Very professional, friendly, great customer service. I'll be back.

Fantastic Salon! I moved to NOVA this summer and went on Yelp to confirm the Washingtonian writeup on the salon. A five plus rating for Melanie and her great staff. I am really picky about my hair and Melanie instantly put me at ease with her great approach and recommendations on keeping the current style and changing the color (I'd had a bad dye job at another salon...it turned orange!). Superb cut and color that is me! I've been back a second time and the cut/color was even better. No reason to look any further for the best salon in NOVA. read more

The saddest thing - they are not consistent! You go there several times, they do a great job, you trust them and on the fith/sixth time they just ruin your hair that you have been growing for 3 years. You show them picture of very beautiful dark blond ombre and they do it dark chocolate at the roots and super light at the ends. You look like a dalmatian! There is nothing you can do because the ends are already bleached and you need to wait at least 3-4 months for dark chocolate to wash out. Is there any hairdresser you can trust??? read more

I had a great first trip to Smitten. Irene cut my hair; she listened to what I wanted, she was enthusiastic, and she did a fantastic job. I love my haircut and will be returning to Smitten in the future. read more

I called Smitten after another salon could not fit me in for 3 weeks (!!). I didn't have my hopes up very high, but the receptionist was super nice and let me know that they had just had a cancellation for the next day and I was welcome to it. I snapped that up and finally found a stylist that I truly can't think of a negative thing to say about in Jana! Jana listened to me about what I liked/disliked about my hair and was very thoughtful in her suggestions. We ended up with some high and low lights and a super cute cut that has added so much volume and dimension to my normally fine, thin, just lays there hair. She walked me through how to style it (quick and easy, just how I like it!) and gave me some helpful tips. I really liked how she described the how/why behind the techniques she used to cut and color my hair, it put me at ease and helped me see the finished product before...well before I could see the finished product! The reasoning behind the 4 stars instead of 5 is twofold: 1) I basically was made to play musical chairs while I was processing. They moved me 3 or 4 times due to the fact they only have 2 dryers and 2 shampooing stations (I didn't need the dryer, wasn't ready for a shampoo yet and Jana had another client that she was working on while I was processing). I like to relax when I'm at the salon so this was pretty annoying to me. 2) The shampoo process. The lady was very nice but she was very rough and didn't seem to know/care whether she was spraying water in my ear, down my back or in my hair. Despite having a cape and towel around my neck, the back of my shirt was soaked by the time she was done. As I mentioned above, I like to relax when I'm at the salon and this did not do much to relax me. With that said, it's not enough to make me not want to return so I will be back, with an older, quicker to dry shirt and mentally prepared for the shampoo process! read more

I go to Smitten every 6 to 8 weeks for my color and cut, and it's my treat to myself. The salon has a lively but not frenetic atmosphere. I followed Jana from another salon to Smitten. She's cut and colored my hair for about four years, and did my hair for my wedding. It was beautiful. I'm a no-fuss person, and she's taken my no-blow-dry, no-hot-curlers approach to styling into account in my cut. Areceli and Karina give great shampoos and head massages. Can't wait until my next appointment. read more

I have been going to Smitten literally since the place opened bc I lived across the street. While I'm not a super frequent flier as my hair is low maintenance, I will say I go less frequently than I would like mostly bc scheduling is impossible. I have sent multiple clients to my stylist bc I think she's great but I have never felt so undervalued as a client by any business. They are completely unaccommodating and unwilling to be flexible to help make an appt work. Even 2-3 weeks in advance. It's just crazy. Other very good, very busy salons I have gone to are willing to "make it work" for a long standing client. While the work product is good, their customer service is lacking. It doesn't matter how good a service is if you can't get an appt. Sadly I've been told no for the last time and will be changing salons and def not recommending smitten any longer. read more

I am certain that this is the best salon out there. If you take the time to voice what you want and don't hold back this salon will make it happen. Not only have I gotten 2 fabulous experiences from this place but I saw 5 people today get awesome consultations with nutlike stylists all giving their input. I came in not knowing what I wanted and within 15 minutes we (Meredith) and I came up with an awesome plan and I couldn't have asked for anything better. Everyone here is super talented and you couldn't go wrong with anyone here. Go here. read more

I heart Smitten! Melanie has an incredible eye for color and always gives me an amazing cut.

If you live in/around Arlington and need a haircut - look no further! This salon is immaculate and filled with talented stylists. I have had my haircut by mostly everyone there and have never been disapointed. Ashley and Lynsey are especialy great at cutting men's hair. Not to mention, the shampoo and head massage are worth the price of admission! read more

I've been a long time customer of Smitten. However, with the new front desk hires that are CONSTANTLY messing up your appointment time, who with, and what for, it looks like I will stop being a customer here. Not only are the front desk people incompetent in this area, they are unsympathetic to the mistakes made. All you will be left with is an "I'm sorry," nothing more and no other offers to help accommodate their mistakes. It is really unfortunate, given that Smitten is a great Salon. read more

I've seen two stylist at this salon. The first did a terrible job with my highlights. I told her blonde and I left with orange/auburn- exactly what I told her I did not like! A friend recommended another stylist at Smitten and so far I have been pleased with what she has done. The low rating is due to the terrible customer service and that it is near impossible to get an appointment with any of the decent hairdressers esp if you have a job (not sure of many ppl who can drop in at 10am). I recently called to make an appointment and the receptionist was not at all helpful. She first booked me for an appt for highlights and a cut to only call back to tell me my stylist didn't have time to cut my hair- I was just getting a trim- it takes no more than 15 min and I had hoped since I have been seeing this stylist for awhile now that she would have made some time. My previous salon would have or would just tell me I could do the cut/hightlight but they would have to skip the bowdry- fine with me. I just feel like this place is over hyped and unfortunately there aren't a lot of salon options in Arlington. Its disappointing. read more

My only hesitation writing this review, is that the more people figure out how amazing Ashley is, the harder it's going to be for me to get an appointment. I moved to this area 4.5 years ago, and have had bad haircut after bad haircut - from salons I researched really well, and that got great reviews. I have been flying home to get my hair done with my girl back home, every time regretful that I "cheated" on her here. She keeps suggesting that I find someone here anyway, to maintain my cut and color in between visits home. So, I tried someone new, once again, skeptical as ever. I have super thick, long, color treated and Brazilian blowout hair, and I don't ever allow a razor or a thinning shears to touch it. So, basically about as high maintenance as you can get. In spite of all that, I can't even begin to tell you how happy I am with the job Ashley just did. She listened, talked to me about what she was going to do and how she was going to do it, took all my suggestions and adapted her technique, and did exactly what I asked for - No, BETTER than I could have possibly asked for. This is hands down the best haircut I've ever had, and now the challenge is going to be for my tried and true girl back home to be able to maintain THIS haircut. Yes, it's pricey, but welcome to the east coast. You get what you pay for, and I'd gladly pay double for hair this good. So relieved I could cry! Ashely, you're a beautiful soul, and I'm so happy I found you! read more

I was excited to try this business b/c of all the positive reviews i've read, so you can understand my horror when I got home from my haircut with Michael and discovered that he'd given me the Kate Gossling haircut--seriously, people are still doing that? And for my very fine hair this cut makes no sense. I look like I am walking around with perpetual bedhead now. I tried to live with the bad haircut for two weeks and finally broke down and called Smitten to ask what they could do to ameliorate the situation. First they made me a free "adjustment" haircut which I was thrilled about. And then an hour later called back to say they could only do adjustments within a week of the original haircut and they would need to cancel my appointment. Needless to say, they have just lost my business. I understand "policies" but is not preserving your reputation for your craft and skill more important? If I had been given a good adjustment I would be writing a good review right now and going back for more haircuts. Bad haircut. Bad business. I'm not Smitten. read more

This review is long over due! I visited Smitten a month back right before my trip to south beach. I was looking to break out of my safe hair routine and try something trendy. After reading Smitten's reviews, I figured this was the place to do it. I got both coloring (the ombré) and a trim done by Michael. He's amazing!!! Very talented and welcoming. Michael went above and beyond to leave me pleased. Besides doing a great job, he curled my hair, free of charge, to leave it looking exactly like the photo I brought in. Little things like that really leave a lasting impression. I was also thrilled with the price. I've probably paid double (for coloring) at places like Vidal Sassoon to receive what I would consider mediocre work in comparison. I know Smitten is filled with talented stylists and colorists, so I'm dying to go back and try out others. I highly recommend Michael though; he won't leave you disappointed! read more

I have been going to this stylist for a while even though I live almost 45 minutes away. I liked my hair cuts but I was never thrilled with them. I just kept going because I thought I was being loyal and supporting a new, small business. On my last appointment, I called to let them know I was running late. Seven minutes into my appointment, I ended up on the street across from the salon and called to let them know I was there and parking to come in. The receptionist put me on hold for five minutes. I got turned around and called again to get help navigating back. The receptionist had me on hold off and on for 15 minutes. At that point, I was 25 minutes late and I figured I would need to reschedule. Once I finally got through to the receptionist, she informed me I would be charged for the appointment anyway and they did charge me that day. Honestly, I have never ever written a complaint about a single business in my life. I have never been so mad. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Do not spend your hard earned money here for a mediocre hair cut and bad customer service. read more
