First, the staff are amazing! But, the food, not so much. The pulled pork. Well, not so much flavor. The shrimp were sooo tiny! The side of barbecue sauce had the consistency of water. My girlfriend and I were driving back from Orlando today. Pennsylvania is a long drive away so we decided to stop in North Carolina for some Carolina BBQ. We wanted to go to another BBQ place but it was closed and we stumbled upon Smithfield, and I am sure glad that we did! The food was amazing and we both got our cravings filled for BBQ and Fried Chicken. The meal was very cheap and was a nice change from Orlando prices. They provide you with a large helping of food. You get two sides and a half dozen hush puppies. We left filled and happy. The service was absolutely amazing! We were helped be what I think was one of the managers and he was absolutely amazing! He helped us order, checked in on us, and came back and gave us refills on our drinks. All other employees were also willing to help and make our meal as wonderful as possible. As I was driving through North Carolina I asked Siri and lead me to a fried chicken and bbq spot --- lo and behold I found myself at the threshold of Smithfield's. I dreamed of Fried Chicken on my way to Florida and I was very happy. They are a rather large restaurant with a pristine look. You have the opportunity to wash your hands upon entry. You placed your order and then take a seat. I was mesmerized by their chicken. Their prices were great, service was A+, they brought the food to the table. I stopped at the Smithfield's in Wilson North Carolina. It was during coronavirus. Normally when I'm going through North and South Carolina I stop at the little mom and pop barbecue places. I was a bit pressed for time today and Smithfield's was close to where I was refueling. I was very, very pleasantly surprised at the cleanliness, the friendliness, and the overall service. Plus the food was hot and tasty and for a pork barbecue sandwich, A huge order of french fries and a Coke it was about nine dollars. It seems like an extraordinarily good value to me. Plus they were taking all the prescribed precautions for coronavirus. This is definitely worth a stop if you're going up and down I 95 and want a hot and tasty barbecue meal. read more

Ordered this through door dash. It was horrible. Ordered the combo plate. The barbecue was disgusting; it was actually purple! The fried chicken was questionably done. The potato salad was watery. The baked beans had slimy particles in it. We spent $40 total for delivery, etc. I threw every bit of it in the trash can. I think this was the 2nd time in my life I've ever eaten at Smithfield BarBQ; I will never eat there again. I will warn anyone against eating there. I guarantee that if we had eaten any of that "food," we would have gotten sick. I wish I could give a zero rating. read more

Smithfield's C&B /Wilson NC; If anyone remembers the classic Smithfield's C&B in eastern NC before the corporatized takeover they would know there is a difference between then and now. Chicken and BBQ is now rather bland tasting with no style - they have prepackaged a thinly vinegar based bbq sauce and a red sauce that are ok but not great - the brunswick stew is less to be desired - the decor looks like a New Yorker bought some 1950's Hollywood posters and called it good , well it aint. However, service and staff are super and attentive, helpful and will cater to the diners asking - staff are excellent and keep to chore. Affordable and realistic menu. read more

Very small pieces of chicken. BBQ is nothing to brag about. It's ok. The Brunswick stew is bland. It doesn't have that same tangy ness as Bill's bbq. Prices are too high for what you get. People are nice. read more

Stopped in this place on the way back from Myrtle beach it's not to far from the Highway. It was my first experience with N.C. style cuisine I ordered the BBQ & Fried chicken combo it was delicious it was served with a decent portion of N.C. style pulled pork and two pieces of fried chicken with sides I chose the coleslaw and Brunswick stew the chicken was extremely fresh as well as the BBQ I enjoyed the tangy N.C. style vinegar base & sauce the coleslaw was pretty standard but delicious and the Brunswick stew was delicious as well it was like a vegetable stew in a tomato base I'll have to swing back by next time in in NC and try some other low country style food read more

Ever since this place opened in Wilson, I am addicted to their fried chicken! I absolutely love it. It beats every other chicken place as far as I am concerned. They are the worst bbq place in Wilson. Maybe, because our expectations are high. We have a couple of good places. The chicken is not bad, just need to be cooked a tad longer. The bbq is bad. Need more seasoning and to be chopped smaller. I almost choked on a large dry chunk in a sandwich. The price is a bit high too for the quality. We stopped on our way south for a quick bite. We both got the BBQ Pork Sandwich Value Meal and it was delicious! The meal came with a huge sandwich stuffed with pork and slaw (hubby got slaw on side) a choice of fries or hush puppies (hubby got the puppies and I got the fries, which were both big portions) and a drink (both of us got sweet tea). In addition to the great food, I must mention the staff. Every single one of the individuals on shift were friendly (I am positive there were smiling behind their masks) and were extremely helpful/attentive. The facility, including bathrooms was spotless. The food is good, but the drive through service is not. Three weeks ago I ordered a small combination with dark meat chicken. When I arrived home 30 minutes later, I discovered there was no chicken, just barbecue. The next weekend I ordered 2 dark meat chicken plates with some other items, got home and only had one plate. Today I ordered 2 pints of Brunswick stew and hush puppies , when I arrived home, no Brunswick stew, but two pints of barbecue. All three times they repeated my order back to me and it was correct. I tried this location after they first opened and it was very good. However, this visit was awful. The sandwhich bread was soaked through, the barbecue itself was not chopped but shredded and not very well at that. The meat was in huge chunks and was so spicy, I could not eat it all. I had to grab a hamburger bun from my cabinet and replace the bun due to the sogginess. If they are going to stay in business, they need to do better! read more
