For our visit to this location, we did an online reservation as we saw how packed they were. LoL I don't think I have ever done so for Outback, but it worked out in our favor. When we arrived, the wait was out the door and they were putting people on a waiting list. I am not sure if the day we went EVERYONE in the area decided to celebrate their birthday but it was packed with birthday parties. However, they worked the line quickly and were very effective in making sure everyone was either checked in or on the waiting list. We still waited a little before our table was available. It wasn't a long wait, but something to take into consideration for their busier timeframes. Now, this location has a smaller footprint than other Outbacks. It looks large on the outside, but once you are within the building - you see how much smaller it is. They did well in making sure you don't feel cramped in the space, but it is small. My main concern was how sticky and slick the floor was especially where we were sitting. Truly a safely concern, but it looked like no one else noticed - we chalked it up to the shoes that the staff used - it made it where they couldn't "feel" it. Outside of that, the restaurant was clean. Like I said, there was A LOT going on while we were there. I wouldn't think this was to be a norm for it to look like everyone group that came in for a birthday party celebration. So, there was a lot of them singing happy birthday to different tables. The most important part - the food. Overall, the food was good - it was Outback food to expect. All food came out timely, fresh, and hot. They did a good job timing how the food came for a table that ordered drinks, apps, and main entrees. We didn't get any bread to start the meal - come on lol you know everyone comes looking for the bread. Once we told our server, she made it right and brought out fresh bread to everyone to go. The drinks were strong and tasty. We felt the best deal was the flight to help you taste different drinks for a reasonable price. The apps came out quickly and were very tasty as well - we enjoyed the fried cheese the most! For those that had salads with their entrees, those came out in a good timing to allow us to enjoy the apps but not feel rushed. The salads were good, nothing really to note. The main entrees arrived and they didn't disappoint - for the most part. The flavoring, temp, and all were good. The only complaint one person had was serving size was small compared to what was presented on the menu. They still enjoyed it, just wished there was more to enjoy lol

Been many times and loved every time. The people are great and a very short wait. Can't wait for the prime rib again.

Beefmastor Inn - Deliciousness!!

Beefmastor Inn

First things first: be prepared to spend some money…read more Second: do not expect fine dining. You can spend the same amount at places like Ruth's Chris, Sullivan's, or Angus Barn and get nicer décor and a more polished atmosphere. If you come to Beefmastor Inn expecting an upscale experience, you'll likely be disappointed -- and you'll probably complain about the tight seating, the long wait, the plastic tablecloths, or the iceberg lettuce. That said, Beefmastor has a charm that's hard to deny -- even if it can feel off-putting at first. The place is small and spartan. On busy nights, you will wait. You might end up seated near the bathroom. It's not intimate, and it's not glamorous. What it is, however, is the polar opposite of pretentious. Every inch of the place feels like old-school North Carolina: cinderblock walls, checkered plastic tablecloths, cottage cheese and raisins on the salad bar. The food is straightforward and unembellished. To be honest, I've had better steaks. I ordered the 10 oz., and it was a bit inconsistent -- velvety in parts, gristly in others, and slightly under-seasoned. But what I appreciated most was the feeling of stepping into a time machine. It felt like a snapshot of a different era -- before towns like Wilson faded and before chain restaurants took over every strip mall. Beefmastor Inn isn't perfect. My meal wasn't perfect. The service wasn't perfect. And it's not cheap. Still, I genuinely enjoyed the experience, and I think it's worth visiting at least once. If you have boomer family members, I can almost guarantee they'll absolutely love it.

The Beefmastor Inn is one of those places you go to on purpose -- a local legend and destination…read morespot for steak lovers. The inside is cozier and nicer than you'd expect from the unassuming exterior, and it has a certain old-school charm. We waited about an hour for our table (which we expected), and tailgated outside like many others. When we were called in, we were simply pointed to our table -- no greeting, no welcome -- which set the tone. We mentioned it was our first time, but instead of getting a warm explanation of how things work, the staff seemed a little annoyed that we needed the "first-timer" rundown. That was disappointing. The salad bar was a nice surprise -- good variety and the ability to use toppings from it for your baked potato was a bonus. Now, the steak: cooked exactly to order and clearly high-quality meat. But there was zero seasoning -- not even salt or pepper -- which was underwhelming given the price tag. For the two of us, one 10 oz and one 16 oz steak, the bill was just over $150 with a water and a soda, no drinks. That's steep for a no-frills experience. For comparison, we recently paid just $50 more at a barn-themed steakhouse in Raleigh that included drinks, apps, dessert, and attentive service over a relaxed two-hour meal. Bottom line: I'm glad we tried it, and the beef speaks for itself -- but the service and overall value didn't live up to the hype. Wouldn't go out of my way to return.

Our server was quite nice and was able to answer our menu questions. Our meal began with the soup of the day, Chicken Tortilla Soup. It was quite tasty, full of veggies that you would find in a pico de gallo nestled in a rich tomato broth, topped with crispy tortilla strips and served in a very small 8oz cup. What was missing was the chicken... I think I encountered one very small cube of chicken in one of those bites. My husband had the bowl size and echoed the same sentiment. For entre, I ordered the Blue Cheese and Apple Salad and made it a meal with the delicately fried oysters. The portions were great for a meal, but I expected more diversity in the salad greens. I received a mound of spinach that would make Popeye extremely happy. I would have loved some crispy romaine to vary the density of the spinach. However, the house dressing and candied walnuts added a great touch. My husband ordered the Cajun Chicken Pasta which I sampled. I loved the sausage and the complexity of flavors for this dish. My son had the crab cakes which were also greatly portioned. He said that the cakes were very good, but for the premium prices he'd expected more crab and less filler. Nevertheless, he still cleaned his plate. Overall, we had a pleasant evening, but for what you pay for a meal, I expected a little bit more.

Jack's Restaurant - 12 ounce ribeye with garlic butter, fried Brussel sprouts and roasted red potatoes.

There were very few options that fit my dietary needs. I ultimately ordered the ribs, but the only sides available to me were the sweet potatoes and Brussels sprouts. All three items came with sauces, which made the overall meal feel overly sauced and heavy. My husband ordered the hush puppies and said they had good flavor, but they seemed like they had been sitting under a heat lamp for a while rather than coming out fresh. The ribs themselves were cooked well, but the sauce was extremely vinegar-forward--not sweet, but quite tangy. Combined with the balsamic glaze on the Brussels sprouts and the brown sugar and possible maple syrup on the sweet potatoes, everything together felt a bit overwhelming in terms of sauces and sweetness. For those with food allergies, be prepared to order à la carte and expect limited choices for sides. I would consider dining here again, but next time I'd make more selective choices to better suit my dietary restrictions.

I called to make a reservation about a month in advance, as we were a group of 26. The staff I worked with over the phone leading up to the dinner was friendly, helpful and communicative. They called to confirm about a week prior and asked if we wanted to create any special menus for our event, which was a very nice gesture. On the day of, the restaurant called for a final confirmation and offered us the private back room for the evening. This worked out perfectly! The food was absolutely incredible and exceeded expectations. The team all enjoyed their meals, which was a variety of orderings, and the adults raved about the dishes ordered, as well. The shrimp and grits was perfection, the French onion soup was flavorful and perfect after a cold, rainy day and the pork chop was seasoned incredibly. The waitstaff worked so hard to accommodate our large group and even helped us divide up billing, which is always a huge ask. We had a fun and scrumptious evening at an amazing locally owned restaurant! If you are in or around Wilson, NC do yourself a favor and eat at Jack's!
