The Cracker Barrel was convenient to where I was staying in Wilson so I stopped for dinner. My waiter David was fantastic and I have no complaints with the service. The host was friendly as well. If I had ordered something different the meal may have been better. I did enjoy the sides. The fries were nice steak fries and the apples were good too. The steak tips were a cut up steak so not what I was expecting as steak tips are normally tender and prepared differently. I would have been ok with the cut up steak but after two bites it was just too chewy for me. The whole meal was $9.99 so it was a good deal for the entree and two sides. I wouldn't order the steak tips again.

Thank you! Mecca my server you were amazing. The staff is extremely diverse and polite. What they didn't know is I am an active duty service member relocating to my new base taking 95 north. I had a taste for some crispy pancakes today so 20 minutes ago I stopped at the Smithfield location. I was disrespected and treated EXTREMELY poorly at that location and left. While still north bound on 95 I saw this location and decided to give the franchise another try. Walking in the diversity of the staff stood out. I was seat at a much better table and my waitress wasted no time bringing me a drink k and taking my order. She had no idea how I was treated at the same franchise right down the road. She was genuinely kind and had hospitality. Thank you so much for hanging my perception of the business and treated a customer how they deserve to be treated. Much better location with amazing staff. The ambiance when you walk it just felt different. The energy was much better.

Interesting. That's what I have to say. We needed a place to go for dinner on the way home on our road trip to Fl. It wouldn't have been my first choice but when you're on the road...first order of business, I tried to sign up for rewards both in the app and just by scanning the QR code. It took forever to get a code sent to this email. I even had the waitress get the manager to help me. Eventually, it worked. But you can't use the reward right away - you have to go back a 2nd time within 30 days to use it (so that probably will discount me!). I ended up only with a side salad since most of the foods were fried and I didn't want that. My husband got a steak and fried shrimp and my son got chicken tenders. The one thing I did like was the the country store - you did feel like you were in a country store! MY son bought a bunch of candy to bring for the ride home - the prices were reasonable which was a nice surprise. It wouldn't be my first choice because I really don't like this kind of food.

The food and service is much improved over their decline a while back! Keeping the decor and sign helped a lot, plus new management!

The fried chicken was crispy and fried hard just the way I like it, with plenty of flavor in every bite. The greens were seasoned perfectly, and the yams were sweet with a great texture--not too hard and not too soft. I visited on a hot summer day, and the restaurant can get pretty loud and a little stuffy when it's busy. Thankfully, they had fans placed throughout the space, which made it much more comfortable. Overall, I enjoyed both the food and the atmosphere. If you're looking for good soul food and want to support a place with a meaningful mission, Whole Truth Lunchroom is worth a visit. I'd definitely go back.

Dishes vary from day to day but the fried chicken, baked chicken, and fried pork chops are staples. Plates come with two sides and you can see from the photo why the blackeyed peas are so good (spoiler alert - it's bacon, lots of bacon). Collards are also delicious and the yams are mildly sweet without being cloying. The banana pudding is gloriously warm and the meringue is fluffy. The pudding is a touch too sweet and I could have done with more bananas but it was large enough to share. The staff is genuinely happy to see you and are happy to talk about their work, if you like. The room is a bit bare bones and the bathrooms are rudimentary and cramped but everything works. There is parking directly in front of the restaurant. Thanksgiving take-out is available for pre-order (see photo). I have a strong feeling you won't go wrong with any of the choices.

Super friendly service and a warm inviting atmosphere with table linens and seating that is nicely spaced to afford you more intimacy than most places. We shared a couple of the starters: Philly egg rolls and the spinach dip with fresh made pita chips. Both were excellent. We also had the chicken wrap, shrimp wrap, Cobb salad, and the chicken salad. All of the entrees were great. My favorite had to be the fresh cut and fried potato slices- whatever you order, don't miss those! It's a banquet hall and catering business but it does a very brisk brunch business and there were three groups there who were celebrating special occasions, so it can accommodate groups of various sizes pretty easily.

Our server was quite nice and was able to answer our menu questions. Our meal began with the soup of the day, Chicken Tortilla Soup. It was quite tasty, full of veggies that you would find in a pico de gallo nestled in a rich tomato broth, topped with crispy tortilla strips and served in a very small 8oz cup. What was missing was the chicken... I think I encountered one very small cube of chicken in one of those bites. My husband had the bowl size and echoed the same sentiment. For entre, I ordered the Blue Cheese and Apple Salad and made it a meal with the delicately fried oysters. The portions were great for a meal, but I expected more diversity in the salad greens. I received a mound of spinach that would make Popeye extremely happy. I would have loved some crispy romaine to vary the density of the spinach. However, the house dressing and candied walnuts added a great touch. My husband ordered the Cajun Chicken Pasta which I sampled. I loved the sausage and the complexity of flavors for this dish. My son had the crab cakes which were also greatly portioned. He said that the cakes were very good, but for the premium prices he'd expected more crab and less filler. Nevertheless, he still cleaned his plate. Overall, we had a pleasant evening, but for what you pay for a meal, I expected a little bit more.

Counter order service with an eye level chalkboard menu was nice. The decor is a little kitshy and in terms of cleanliness, I've been in worse interstate restaurants. I opted for the fried chicken with cabbage and tater salad. The young guy that took the order was clean cut, well mannered and polite. We were given a number and seated ourselves at a window seat. On each of the tables were a bottle of Texas Pete, napkins, an unknown BBQ sauce that tasted like Sweet Baby Rays and a pepper shaker. No salt. The window and windowsills had plenty of evidence hygienic practices weren't their strong suit: Remnants of what appeared to be days-old hush puppies, pulled pork and perhaps green beans (?) were visible along the window sills and the bench seats were long past their prime which made the mere time someone had invested into the wall decor and cosmetics perplexing. It was very brief observation our food appeared via a very friendly young lady. ...In styrofoam containers with plastic utensils. Mildly reassuring the same people responsible for the dining room's cleanliness weren't also responsible for washing actual dishes and silverware. Being a Southerner, I could see the cabbage had not been seasoned with anything - Not so much a speckle of pepper nor an onion sliver. Forget a hint of fat back, hog jawl, or even a bacon grease sheen - So I asked for vinegar. Our server gave the option of regular vinegar or pepper vinegar, I chose the pepper and she returned with such rapidly. White vinegar with a pinch of red pepper flakes in a pre-portioned plastic container. Consequently, I will say the cabbage was very much so plain boiled cabbage and let me know this place isn't doing anything with whole hogs. Next up, the tater salad. It was more so tater bits, not actual cubes of boiled taters - with sugar(?), some scant flakes - Yes, flakes! - of red onion, a whisper of an egg yolk and definitely not Duke's or Blue Plate Mayo. No celery, no pickles, no identifiable parts it was just cold mashed potatoes covered in a runny egg/maybe knock off Miracle Whip and cheap mayo blend and takes the award for being the absolute worst "potato salad" I have ever eaten. Noticing all the nods to Christ and Jesus being Lord and Savior all I could think was, "Amen. I hope this doesn't make me sick." The fried chicken? Straight outta a US Foods or Sysco wholesaler. Really strange considering it's an unobstructed easy WALK to the adjacent Food Lion where someone could buy lard, chicken, flour and seasonings to do up some yard bird. It was clearly nothing battered there in house and the nail in the coffin was those hush puppies. Those tasted like a Temu version of hush puppies someone would fry up after frying fish with an odd mix of House of Autry breading with sugar added. The service was great. And a lot of effort was placed into the walls. The food was unfit for a nursing home picnic and in preparing for the rapture Stormin Norman's would not be a place I'd recommend for a potential Last Supper. May Jesus take your wheel to a different restaurant.
