How I do miss the days of the typical greasy spoon restaurants at truck stops. They were usually really good homemade food for a reasonable price. Now it's mostly Arby's, Taco Bell and other fast foods. Neither original nor healthy. And while Iron Skillet isn't one of those lost treasures, it does come pretty close. This location is still recovering from the pandemic. But the staff is friendly and the food is pretty good. I ordered the country fried steak and eggs breakfast. My server Morgan did a great job. She was friendly, cordial and efficient. She got everything I order correct. What a concept! The plate itself comes with two eggs, your choice, a hand breaded steak cooked to order to the breading is crispy and really tasty! I wish more places would do it like this. There is no comparison between fresh and frozen. The steak itself was a little tough in one place, but it was nice. I got the hash browns, some biscuits and gravy, a glass of OJ and a side of fruit. We need to talk about this so called fruit though. While technically fruit, it was mostly canned orange wedges and canned pineapple with one, and I wish I was kidding here, one small piece of cantaloupe and one grape. Lol. Here I am trying to be healthy and I'm getting zero help. Oh well. I guess a ghetto fruit cup is still better than nothing... right? The restaurant was located inside of a giant truck stop off 95. Overall, the restaurant was ok. I ordered the orange chicken from their international menu. It was decently good. The fried rice was made with different veggies which would have been okay except for the exorbitant amount of bell peppers in it. My husband ordered the chicken fried steak and it was ok. He also had a baked potato that was undercooked. The restaurant has a convenience store with nifty little trinkets. The service was overall good. The waitress was fairly attentive, and refilled our drinks when needed. If you're driving by and need somewhere to stop off 95, sure I would stop there but to go there as a destination probably wouldn't be somewhere I would go. read more

This restaurant is located at the Kenly truck stop off Rt. 95 in NC. We live locally and my wife and I come here often for lunch. The food is always good and well prepared. The wait staff is friendly and attentive. I drink tea by the gallons and they're always on spot refilling our glass's. For OTR truckers this has to be a breath of fresh air to find a place to park and sit down to a hot home cooked meal. read more

Today we wanted a nice meal , other truck stop had not good variety. So we stopped in to this wonderful Iron Skillet . The waitress named Teaeria was very punctual and never let our drinks go empty, she was prompt, curtious and fun. She brought laughter and positive energy to our table and she has a very upbeat personality. More restaurants should have more waitresses like this one the cook David P. Is such a good cook, our TBone steaks were cooked to perfection and just the way we ordered them. I like this establishment, and the ombions is cozy,our wait time was little to barely any and I am just extremely satisfied. I highly recommend this restaurant! Absolutely disgusted with this place. We ordered spaghetti for our daughter and the meatballs and noodles were cold. The meatballs were hard to cut into it was like they were still frozen. Our utensils had food on them when we open the napkins, our waters tasted like they came out of a toilet. I DO NOT recommend anyone eating here! Yuck is all I have to say!! read more

So I wasn't sure about this place with the 80's themed decorations and an empty buffet but to my surprise this place was busy and almost full. I was greeted upon arrival by a lovely girl with great big smile. She told me I could sit any where that was opened. I did and I ordered my food. I ordered just a regular hamburger with fries and WOW....there are no words. A classic burger done right. Crisp bun, juicy patty stuffed with all the fixings ( Lettuce,Tomatoes, pickles, ketchup, mustard) There is a TON of options on the menu if you didn't want a burger. Ok. Had better expectations than what I actually got. Clean truck stop restaurant, and the hostess was friendly. Took a few minutes for the server to see that I was seated, no big deal. I ordered the chicken fried steak and eggs. Coffee came out fresh and hot, no problem. The food not so much. It took about 30 minutes for my food to hit the table, and the server said something about "they made something you didn't want, so they had to redo it." The steak portion was inedible. It was way undercooked and dripping juices. Not the way a battered and fried steak should be. The scrambled eggs were gray and tasted like Worcestershire sauce. Same for the hash browns. The only fully edible portion of my meal was the grits, which I had to eat with a fork since no spoon was provided. If I have to eat here again, I'll get the buffet, or better yet, just go down the road to a better place. read more

This place is amazing. I make it a point for our family to stop anytime we are close while traveling. My husband is a owner operator of his semi so we have eaten at several restaurants in our life time however this one is one of my top favorites. The food is amazing. The flavor is out of this world. However the thing that brings me back overall is Ms. Cindy. She is amazing. From the 1st time we visited here she made us feel like family. Everytime we walk in she recognizes us and is just as happy to see us as we are to see her. The rest of the staff is just as friendly but Cindy is something special. The good here was absolutely disgusting. Me and my father ordered 2 burger and it tasted like the grill hasn't been cleaned in months. Literally sat there for 10 minutes before 1 of the 5 waitresses comes and apologizes for not coming sooner, "she thought another waitress took my drink order"? Don't they have assigned tables? She takes the orders of the men next 2 me also..while doing so I hear her tone change and snap at the men "I heard you". She then looks at me sighing saying "geeze"? We get a different waitress to order food now. I ordered steak rare as usual. It was rare..It was cooked on 1 side and cold and raw on other side. had a funky fish taste to it. My husband got chopped steak n shrimp, my husband never leaves food on his plate, he did? The salad was the best thing, once you got done struggling to reach for what u wanted at the bar...The sneeze gaurds are not positioned properly, cant reach food and wont allow you to go around. Which also made food get dropped and mixed up, as well as the handles of serving spoons that have been handled numerous times laying in the food we are going to eat, how sanitary is that.. I used to eat at the Iron Skillet all the time, but this place has gone downhill. Last nights experience was the worst I've ever had when eating out. To start with, the buffet looked gross and unappealing. Second of all, the waitress screwed our entire order up. My daughter-in-law ordered an omelet that came with a side of home fries. She also asked for some French toast to go with it. All she got was the omelet. My son ordered a country fried steak dinner and wanted an extra piece of steak. ( I'll come back to this) I ordered a country fried steak club sandwich with cottage cheese as my side. She brought my son his dinner, but gave me his extra piece of country fried steak with my cottage cheese. ( she did not bring my club sandwich)When we informed her that the piece of steak was my sons and that she forgot my sandwich and my daughter-in-laws home fries French toast, she went back to the kitchen and said I changed my order. While waiting for the rest of the food, my son and his wife both found hair in their food. My wife whose order was the only one that was right, ( she just ordered oatmeal) went and ask for a mananger. When the person came out they asked which food had hair in it so they could see which cook needed to wear a hair net. ( apparently they only wear them if they are told to) They did comp a small portion of the bill, but still paid 40.00 for food no one wanted to eat. I will never go in there again.
