a breakfast of eggs, hash browns, and fruit
    William K.

How I do miss the days of the typical greasy spoon restaurants at truck stops. They were usually really good homemade food for a reasonable price. Now it's mostly Arby's, Taco Bell and other fast foods. Neither original nor healthy. And while Iron Skillet isn't one of those lost treasures, it does come pretty close. This location is still recovering from the pandemic. But the staff is friendly and the food is pretty good. I ordered the country fried steak and eggs breakfast. My server Morgan did a great job. She was friendly, cordial and efficient. She got everything I order correct. What a concept! The plate itself comes with two eggs, your choice, a hand breaded steak cooked to order to the breading is crispy and really tasty! I wish more places would do it like this. There is no comparison between fresh and frozen. The steak itself was a little tough in one place, but it was nice. I got the hash browns, some biscuits and gravy, a glass of OJ and a side of fruit. We need to talk about this so called fruit though. While technically fruit, it was mostly canned orange wedges and canned pineapple with one, and I wish I was kidding here, one small piece of cantaloupe and one grape. Lol. Here I am trying to be healthy and I'm getting zero help. Oh well. I guess a ghetto fruit cup is still better than nothing... right? Hey, all jokes aside, if you want a better quality meal than tacos and burgers, this is a good choice to feel less fast food and a little more civilized dining, Thank you Morgan for the great service!

Popped in on bus tour with very limited time.. asked fir to go boxes since we didn't have much time.. the waitress was very friendly & nice helped us get a nice hot food choice, we were able to eat 1/2 & bring the rest with us.. it's difficult when traveling with 39 other ppl to all get served & heat fairly healthy in a timely fashion. The place was clean & comfy to sit for a speedy service..

Today we wanted a nice meal , other truck stop had not good variety. So we stopped in to this wonderful Iron Skillet . The waitress named Teaeria was very punctual and never let our drinks go empty, she was prompt, curtious and fun. She brought laughter and positive energy to our table and she has a very upbeat personality. More restaurants should have more waitresses like this one the cook David P. Is such a good cook, our TBone steaks were cooked to perfection and just the way we ordered them. I like this establishment, and the ombions is cozy, our wait time was little to barely any and I am just extremely satisfied. I highly recommend this restaurant! Thanks guys, happy happy customers, will definitely be returning.

Salad and fried chicken with country sides and rolls good value and pleasant service. Food court has other options.

Good value with menu options or buffet and salad bar. Also a food court inside the truck stop. The service is excellent! Our server "Sophia" was the sweetest and most attentive person I have met in a long time .., lovely and smiling and even brought us some "date night" Ice cream w cherries on top ! Best part of the evening !! Recommend !

Soooo....Don't waste your time or hard earned money. I ordered sweet potato fries. I actually wanted steamed vegetables but they wouldn't separate the broccoli from them. I am allergic. When the waitress came out she said the cook just told her there were no sweet potato fries. So I said fine bring a baked potato, bake potato wasn't cooked all the way through. Hard as a rock, could not mash it at all and it was cold. Steak was supposed to be medium well. Won't be back. Ordered unsweetened tea, we are on a strict diet last refill she pored sweet tea. Like I said, don't waste you time or money. If I could have given a negative I would have

I do not recall the signage upon the highways blue boards that tell of gas, food and lodging, those signs have changed over the years and seemingly mainly advertise only the big burger guys. I reckon it was just past 3:00am when I exited the interstate and after a quick loop de loop I got all excited to see the yellow and black sign of Waffle House. It's become a comforting place for me as redneck as that may sound - South Carolina kicked off that trend by way of late nights with a newly met hussie, breakfast with my son, or just me and my thoughts and newspapers. Maximum Overdrive rigs all around, some snooze some sleep some sort out their trip- I took a seat at a table in the rear. Coffee always is served quickly and my order never never really changes "All Star, pecan waffle, Sunnyside up with bacon, grits and extra butter". But the eggs came out rubbery and bouncy scrambled, I had thoughts of silky textures. As I played with it with my fork questioning my ability to resurrect them, I caught a movement outside and entering quickly through the double doors.A heavy coated screaming man entered. He was certainly unstable, ranting and raving and seemed quite insane. He wasn't the type to be packing a heater as I assessed him up and down while not looking up with my I Can Spot Danger NYC lense. I've dealt with many people in far worse areas than this wiry fellow, so I nonchalantly slipped my hand in my front right pocket and fitted into my brass knuckles while eating and reading and listening, but nothing really came if it and in minutes the police arrived on scene. It's true that my order was incorrect, it's true the early mornings live entertainment was less than Carnegie Hall material, but the politeness of the staff is much appreciated when your a stranger in a strange land, hungry and have been cranking out the miles by the hundreds.

I ordered a Senior plate with (1) egg and bacon (extra crispy) and an unsweetened tea. It comes with grits or hashbrowns and toast automatically. The hubs ordered a waffle (lightly cooked), grits, sausage and a soda. Overall the food was good but my husband's sausage had an odd taste (according to him) and I put their whipped butter in my grits which ended up making my grits have an odd taste. For me the tea was very strong so much so that I asked for a half glass of water so I could mix it with the tea. Again none of this is a deal breaker but generally when we go to Waffle House the food is good diner food with no issues so we were a little surprised. Our servers name was Melissa and she was top notch. She asked us several times if we needed anything and was very accommodating when I asked for water. She was very professional and offered great customer service. The bathroom (womens) was really clean. Anyone that goes to Waffle House knows its a casual restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere. The total for our bill was $22 before tax and tip.

We ordered the double cheese burger (comes with meat chili, onions, cheese and mustard) and one double hamburger with lettuce tomato onion. The double burgers were 1/2 pound. We also ordered some house made coleslaw. We sat at the one booth and we served very quickly. Our burgers were really good, the burger itself tasted good. The coleslaw was also a big win. We had 2 double burgers, coleslaws and 2 fountain drinks for 22$, great value and great taste. It is a true locals place run by a family. The family pictures on the wall and everyone coming in seems to know the staff. They have a drive through which also keeps them busy. It is not a fancy place but has a family lunch counter vibe. The biscuit had so much flavor and just that classic North Carolina biscuit taste. We also loved the hoop cheese that is from NC. We definitely will be back. It was adorable and delicious. I was surprised when it came, because I was not expecting a chunk of brisket that thick! The portions are good!!! It's a dark restaurant, not well lit, but I honestly don't mind that kind of vibe. Made it more chill. The service was not the fastest, but it didn't ruin the dinner at all. If I'm ever back in the area, I would come back to this spot.

It is not fancy, but once you try something it is different. This is American Cooking but with a style that is special. See what awaits. When we went in I had worked up at the Rocky Point Markets for furniture both in the spring and the fall of each year. It was always filled with folks from everywhere to shop, and see and buy for the next season. There were plenty of places to have lunch. But when dinner came it was special. The local style of cooking was different. It might have the same meal as you would find in another region, but here it was different as it is based on the cook / chef. Tonight we stopped in and the person helping us was very special. She told us of what was available and what was not. She gave the details and let us order. First we had to have an Arnold Palmer. Naturally, it was different than the person down the block. This was not sweet as usually. It was an equal mike and perfect to have. It gave us something to think about. First up was the Mac & Cheese. But unlike normal Mac & Cheese, with this we ordered shrimp. Not what you expect, this was unique. The Mac & Cheese was a combination of fresh pasta and mixed with four different types of cheese. It was mixed together with a cream and butter. It was not a firm mix but a mix that was moist and tasty with each bit you took. That alone was a meal unto itself. Being mixed with shrimp was different. The shrimp where not small. They were a good size. And there was almost a dozen mixed in. They were not placed onto. Being mixed in they aded to the flavor and taste. There was no spices. Just fresh shrimp with pasta and a cheese mix. A dip of bread helped to take it all in. Next we did have Baby Back Ribs. These were very fresh and tasty. Cooked to the right point hthey literally fell off the bone itself with the touch of a fork. The taste was slightly mixed with honey. Sweet but spicy. Naturally had to have some home made coleslaw with this. Plus an order of sweet potato fries. And these were fresh. Alone with a drink these would have been a good snack to have together. I could have had another plate of these alone. The two dishes were perfect. Yet, we did need to have dessert when the couple at the next table ordered it and shared it. This was Bread Pudding, topped with vanilla ice cream and served with Bourbon sauce. This was heaven itself. You did not need more. There people could have shared this one item. Again, it was freshly made and warm. Ideal. The ice cream was made that morning. And, as for the bourbon, you could have had a glass of this. Spread over the bread pudding it was how we sometime drink an Irish Coffee. Had to have that taste with each bite. Overall, this was a special place to for a meal. It was truly unique for the region and for the chef. The team was a great help. The price was great. As for the people who were there, it was packed. Many came from the places where they are creating the new furniture and items that will be on display for the next market in Rocky Point for next spring. They knew where the place is and what to order. It is truly the right spot for a good meal. It is worth the visit next time I am in town.
