I'm a little late to this review, but I sent my M1A in to get their scope mount that is tagged "US Property" and with an NSN (PN 2006), and to get my trigger improved in October 2021. I also wanted a bedding job, but they refused to do it saying it wasn't necessary due to my stock already having metal liners in it. I did more research online on places like m14forum.com and folks on there said a bedding job is still helpful despite the metal liners (https://www.m14forum.com/threads/glass-bedding-with-metal-liners.513609/). I'm guessing Smith Enterprise is either misinformed or just lazy about doing a bedding job. Their customer service is poor - half the time I spoke with Andy he sounded frustrated and annoyed with me. About half the emails I sent were left unanswered. I was only contacting them once or twice on a biweekly basis. Maybe that was too frequent? I got my rifle back February 2022. The trigger job they did made the trigger worse (to me) than when I sent it in. The mount that they make, which means they SHOULD know how to properly install, failed miserably and shot loose after 40-60 rounds. I cannot stress how disappointing this is given how much you pay for it. Further emails to them to try and get instructions to fix the mount were ignored/left unanswered. The only good thing I can say is I now have an expensive and good-looking US Property/NSN tagged paper weight. Not sure if I even want to sell it and give its new owner problems holding zero. I had SEI build 3 rifles for me, each was done in less than 2-weeks. I wanted them to convert one of those rifles into a national match rifle. The stock would need glass bedded and some minor parts needed modified, all pretty much basic things. I mailed them some parts in 2/2024 and they had everything on 3/8/2024. I made a Facebook comment, that my rifle was taking a long time. This must have greatly upset one employee, he contacted me on FB stating that they were sending my rifle back to me, since I couldn't wait. It had been 10 months! The employee (A.H) also insulted me without reason and said other not so nice things about me. When I asked, why I was a "pain in the ass dick.." on my other builds, I got no reply. They would tell me what was needed and I would say "ok". A.H couldn't answer that question. A.H stated he is "packing my shit up!" and demanded my credit card information. My rifle cost about $120 to ship to them one-way! I did not feel good about getting the employee my card info, I offered to pay in other ways (ways listed on their website) but he wants my credit card number. I've asked for an invoice, and they have refused to tell me the cost. I've spent thousands of dollars buying things from SEI and I get treated like crap by their employee. I'm sure that Smith Enterprises is an OK company when it comes to building, selling and servicing firearm product. However, I would have given zero stars if it were possible! I've seen numerous videos touting their skills and I'm sure when they feel like it, they will respond to questions for their "high ticket" items. However, their customer service skills leave a lot to be desired, especially in this day and age of poor customer service that seems to be rampant in this country. I had to laugh at the comment, "Ron Smith can be a little rough around the edges at times and moody", which to me is an understatement as far as I am concerned! On 10/5/23, I ordered a part for my M1A and according to the website was IN STOCK. I understand that the company can't always be 100% accurate of the what is currently in stock. Since the website indicated the product was in stock, I allowed a couple of weeks to be notified that the part was being shipped. Never received any notification, that it was "out of stock" if that was case, or any apology for the delay. Since I hadn't heard anything from Smith Enterprises, I emailed them on 10/16 for any update on delivery...NO RESPONSE. Since I hadn't heard from them, I called the company on the 10/23 and he's a synopsis of that conversation. A male answered the phone "Hello", I went onto explain the reason for my call and in a very rude tone got what was I looking for and before I could finish my explanation, he said he "creating a label" to ship out some of those parts!! He did not once ask for my name, or the order number. I presumed I was getting a "boiler plate" response and really concerned that in a very small way I was helping to keep his business going. I've been in customer relations for well over 30 years and if I ever heard one of my advocates speaking to customer in the way I was spoken to, they would be pulled off the line and sent back for remedial training!! Maybe this person should hire a real "customer service" advocate that can actually HELP your customers and business model as opposed to the owner making these feeble attempts in just alienating any potential customers. Now, Smith Enterprises has had my money for over 30 days and I have nothing to show for it!! I hope you rethink how you conduct YOUR business. One last thing, if you can figure out who this disgruntled person is, either send me my product that I ordered, in good faith, or refund my purchase. read more

I could not stand the California legal Muzzle Brake that was installed on my Springfield Armory Scout M1A. As soon as I moved out of that godforsaken state I began the hunt for a real flash suppressor. I found it with a Smith Enterprise Vortex. There was one problem, though...there was no front sight mounted on it as there was on the Springfield's. I called Smith and they shipped me a gas lock as used by the USMC in Operation Enduring Freedom which is superior to the original front sight and more closely resembles the one on an H&K 91 with a hooded post. I ordered upgrades from SEI in August and after waiting 4 months with no word from the owners of SMITH Enterprise, I get a phone call saying they were just starting on the rifle. A month goes by, then 5 weeks, then I get a phone call saying it's ready and here's the bill. So I paid. They shipped the rifle back to me in a beat up box that probably wouldn't protect anything inside, as there was no padding in the box. I look at my old barrel and the National match site wasn't on it. But there was one on my new rifle barrel. I assumed they just took my old one and put it on my new barrel. They assured me it was a new site. So I asked them to return the one that goes on my old barrel as I wanted to sell it. They said they would. 3 weeks goes by, and no site. So I message them on fb, and get a nasty return saying this is their personal fb account, so I should email the office. Which i did, three times. I get on fb on the rifle forums and mention this, and these two guys who worked on my rifle say that I am lying, that I took the site off the barrel and claimed they took it and kept it. The pics show my old barrel with the site on there before I sent it, and the old rifle barrel they sent me back with no site on there. read more

A really talented gunsmith is a rare thing in this world. A lot of people might claim that they're good gun mechanics, and most of them are wrong. While most people can almost make a gun work right, it takes someone with a lot of talent and a lot of time in the industry to be a true artist. I know guns, I have a lot of them, have spent a lot of my life around them. As such, I know when what I have in my hand is "good enough to get the job done" and when "goddamn this thing is amazing." My gun was pretty good, I had it to a place where it was accurate, wouldn't jam, and would get the job done. Then, under the advice of James at Merchant Firearms, took my gun to Andy to get some work done. Long story short, spent a lot less than I thought I would, and now my gun is goddamn fantastic. Andy and his crew are the best around, anywhere, on the planet, period. If you own an M14 or an M1A, you owe it to yourself and to your weapon to go see Andy and the bunch down at Smith. I bought a M1a scout and hated the front sight. But you cant just change it . So I bought the new gas lock and NM front sight from Smith Enter.. 2 weeks later the gas lock arrived but no front sight. I called and he said no problem ill send it out today. A week later no sight so I called again.. "Sorry man we have been swamped, ill get it out today".. Another week passes and no sight.. so I call again... You guessed it, Its in the mail... Here were are today , another week and still no front sight.. Over a month... I could have drove there and got it faster and I Live in New England.. The parts may be great, But CS sucks!! Ordered Feb 8 2018.. its March 13 2018 and still no sight. Now they wont answer phone calls or return messages. Time to reverse the charge . read more

The worst customer service we have ever experienced. I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy. I wish there was a no star rating, Im actually surprised a business with people at the helm like this lasted this long, so heres the story in brief. I purchased an M1A and wanted to get it cerakoted. My brother just started a cerakote business, but as we both are very unfamiliar with the M1A platform I contacted these guys since they were in the same town he lives to get some "expert" guidance. I called and talked to Ron (all he could do is talk about the whole time was himself and his accomplishments to the firearm community , wouldn't let me get one word for 5 minutes.) I finally got to it and ask if he could 1. Strip the rifle down so we could cerakote it, then bring it back to re-assemble, 2. Advise my brother as to what not to/not to cerakote on the firearm since we know little to nothing about this rifle. I figured I just invested 1600 bucks into this rifle, I should have a "expert advise" so we don't mess things up. Well, my brother cerakoted some parts he wasn't suppose to, but Andy, Ron's "gunsmith" never advised my brother about not cerakoting these parts, he told him that the piston should not have been cerakoted and he should of plugged the gas tube as well in case of overspray. He also claimed that my brother cerakoted the whole trigger group, which he did not, but Andy argued that he most definitely did. Further more, he didn't even finish assembling the rifle when my brother took it back to them, he claimed that cerakoting the polymer stock fucked it up and couldn't get it to fit properly (which my brother did when he got home that night) so they didn't even do what they said they were going to do. They failed to both disassemble and reassemble the rifle (the first thing I asked them to do), and advise properly where to/not to cerakote the rifle (second thing). On top of that they charged us for it! After a day or two my brother called me and told me what had happened, and I thought, ok, yeah he shouldn't of coated an internal part to the rifle, and he probably should of known that being somewhat of a gun guy, but mistakes happen, and he did get "advised" by a "professional". So I just went and purchased a new one and asked him to email the guys and see if any overspray in the gas tube could affect the performance/safety of the rifle. The reply emails from Ron and Andy were disgusting. Its almost like we threatened to graffiti their place or burn their house down or something retarded like that. The extreme disrespect and negativity in their replies was revolting, stuff like "how could you be so stupid, were not here to hold your hand, even an idiot knows that, who gave you the dumbass idea we would tell you what to and not to cerakote, you want to play supercool guy guy go figure it out yourself, so on and so fourth) and thats just us asking if the gas cylinder was compromised because there might of been overspray in it. Those guys are real McAssholes. After some research about these guys after this all went down, and this isn't a new thing for them. They have been assholing it up for quite a long time. Anyone who tries to call them out on something that they might of messed up on, and they go ape shit like its the beginning of WW3 to them. Both Ron and Andy were nice enough of the phone with me, but when they had some pushback they really showed their true colors. DO NOT do business with these guys at any cost, I wouldn't even recommend going near the building they work out of, maybe some of their asshole ways might of rubbed off on the surrounding tenants. Find someone who will do good work, and if you have any discrepancies, they will at minimum try to help you before telling you to take a hike. Im sure if these two assholes find this review they will most definitely respond not in kind, and I hope they do. So you the reader can see for yourself why not to work with them.
