The office people are discriminatory. They pick and choose who they accept as patients based on who their personal choices over the phone.

After being assured that Dr Wier was in my network and my exam and cleaning would be covered 100%, as it has been with all other dentists in my insurance plan, the office proceeded to overcharge me $200+. My insurance company informed me that he is not in network. I would never have made the appointment if I had known the DR was not in network. The hygienist was good but Dr Wier interrupted her cleaning to briefly look at my teeth, then told me I needed 2 crowns and a filling after spending a few minutes in the exam room. I do not recommend this dental practice and I am very concerned about the billing system and the incompetence of the staff who told me the dentist was in network. read more

I have been a patient at this dental group since Dr. Weir's father was in practice. As a senior citizen, I recently switched my insurance to a Medicare PPO, due to divorce, and specifically because Smileworks is listed as an in-network provider. Despite this, when I called to provide my insurance information for a scheduled cleaning, they insisted they don't accept "government" insurance. I contacted my plan, and they confirmed Smileworks is in network. After calling the dental office again, the person assured me the office manager would call me back, but that never happened. It's disappointing that the practice, once great, seems more focused on expensive procedures like implants and teeth whitening, overlooking the importance of dental care for seniors. The Weirs were such kind and caring dentists (with a side of good humor -to make the visit easier). I'll miss going to Dr Weir and Maria. But I have found another without a problem. read more

Just had my cleaning and was extremely nervous to come in due to covid but they handled everything very responsibly. I felt very safe and my hygienist was geared up and ready. I am new to this practice as I am currently working from home and the practice is close to my home. During my first visit, the dental hygienist asked if she could do X-rays. I asked her if they are the routine, once a year X-rays covered by my insurance. She said, "Yes, the X-rays are fully covered." I agreed to the X-rays and then received a bill from my insurance company. When I called the office to explain, Jasmine told me that it is my responsibility to understand my dental benefits and would not talk to either the hygienist or the dentist to resolve the matter. I will not be back. I have been routinely going to the dentist for years and this is my first poor experience and bill! read more

Cracked my tooth over the holiday weekend. Called office when they opened and they were able to get me in the same day. Dr. Melnyk was amazing. Explained what was going on, made me feel at ease and like she cared. I had a cracked tooth and a cavity. Her staff from as soon as you enter until you leave are great as well. I haven't been to the dentist in years due to various reasons. Having had the great amazing experience I did today, I will probably make her my new dentist and go back. I am not a fan of going to the dentist because we couldn't afford it when I was younger so when I got older, I have more issues and work that needs to be done. This was the first time in a long time I really felt that I needed to review a place I just left. I have been seeing Dr. Melnyk for the past year and a half or so. I have to say that she and her staff are the best I have ever experienced with dentistry, patient care and customer service. I am obsessed with my teeth as I address many groups with various presentations for my organization. My teeth are important to me and Dr. Melnyk has done an outstanding job to ensure the health and appearance of my teeth. Dr. Melnyk has performed and continues to do extensive work on me and I couldn't be more pleased. The staff and Dr. Melnyk are always kind and friendly and by the way there is typically a dog on site that makes the experience even more enjoyable. Her demeanor is so calm, which helps to ease any nerves. She is so professional and very intelligent. I trust any recommendations she gives, as I know she recommends treatments that I truly need. It seems like Smileworks is taking reasonable steps due to pandemic, and everyone was courteous. However, I do not know how comfortable I feel continuing treatment after a couple members of my family were handed referrals while we were walking out the door for costly specialists that are "out of network" for all insurances. In both instances, almost nothing was said during the appointment and little was said at the end other than you should go see this person who will charge you a lot of money. It was the first appointment at this office for two people in the family and it resulted in doorway recommendations to follow up with three other practitioners. I understand that orthodontists and periodontists on the north side of Chicago have their reasons for not being "in network" with any insurance but I did not feel that Smileworks provided enough information for me to be comfortable with a very large out of pocket expense. Maybe they are just hoping to service those who earn 6 or 7-figure incomes? read more

I am at lost for all the positive reviews for the new dentist owner. First of all, I absolutely LOVE the dental hygienist Diane and Dr Weir. I have been going to Dr Weir for over seven years. I have huge dental anxiety and the two of them have provided me a wonderful experience for almost the last decade. I am so sad to have had a horrible experience on my last visit with Dr Melynk. I am shocked other reviews state her as compassionate and listening. I had the exact opposite experience where she didn't even say hi to me, immediately began procedures without describing what she was doing unless i asked, and I literally had to push her hand away when I needed a break. I told her I did not want the test where they assess gum disease, and she told me that was a "liability" to her practice. Then halfway through my cleaning she got up and walked away without saying a word to me. I have never been met with such rudeness from a provider, utter lack of soft skills in addition to complete lack of understanding about anxiety. Thank goodness Diane came in to finish the cleaning (which is what i assume Dr Melynk was doing when she left but of course, did not tell me). I am so sad this happened as I have had an amazing experience with Dr Weir's team. read more
