I've been with city smiles for many years. They have fixed my teeth from the last dentist which messed up all of my teeth! Dr. Simon worked on my teeth for many years and was great but lately Dr. Koch has been working on my teeth and has been fixing my tooth problems without a problem since. Dr. Koch is very aware of your pain from many procedures and will make you comfortable as possible. She also is a perfectionist which I love! She has a high degree of focus on if her work is perfect before you leave. Also she will recommend issues with your teeth which you should take seriously. She won't shame you into not doing a procedure which I appreciate. She identifies issue which will be a problem if you let it go too long. I've experienced letting things go too long but she fixed that as well. She is one of their top dentists and I appreciate her. City Smiles as a whole is a great company. I want to also recommend Adriana as a hygienist. She is their top hygienist. She is very pleasant and is very concerned with your comfort as well as an expert at cleaning your teeth with precision and takes very much care in detail without a lot of pain. 5 stars for her as well! read more

I just left my first appointment here. The office is nice (it's huge), and the staff was very friendly! I will say, I understand those saying that they felt misled about billing and insurance. I was told that my first visit was only a "consultation," which I assumed meant no charge. I've never had to have a consultation at a dentist before booking a basic cleaning but I agreed to it. They told me they did accept my insurance (Metlife) and would get back to me before the consult regarding my coverage... but I didn't hear anything further. Anyway, this consultation cost me $171 because they do take my insurance but are 'out of network.' Definitely would have been nice to know that before I came in. Anyway, I'm on the fence about coming back because while I did really like the staff, I also loved my last dentist in Chicago -- and while it's a bit further away, I always appreciated their transparency and they're also 'in network' for me. What more great things can I say about this dental office! Just a heads up, this review will be a little longer than usual in order to elaborate the type of outstanding service I received at City Smiles. Today (2-17-2021) I had an early morning appointment and due to the bad weather, I was running a little late. It was just a few minutes past my appointment time when I arrived at the place but had trouble finding parking. I kept going around the block but to no avail. Just then I received a call from the office asking if I was going to make it for my appointment today. I informed the kind receptionist that I was actually outside but was having difficulty finding a parking spot for my car due to the snow piled up everywhere. She told me to come around to the back where they have parking spots dedicated to City Smiles. I informed her that I had already been there but I didn't find any open spots. She told me to return anyway and they'll figure out a way to help me. Seriously, who does that?? How caring and thoughtful. As I was pulling into the parking lot I saw Dr. Simon parking his car into a spot, making way for another open one next to it. They told me to park my car into the open spot but unfortunately it was a bit too small for my car to fit into. They ended up telling me it would also be okay to just double park next to the staff cars. So that's what I did. I went in for my appointment and it was a pleasant experience as usual. The hygienist, Adriana, is always so delightful to work with. She's very friendly, explains everything she's doing and makes sure you're okay at all times. I also met with Dr. Jones for the first time today who was also so wonderful. Overall, my experience at City Smiles is always satisfying. And especially today they just went above and beyond to solve my parking problem just so I could make it to my appointment. I was truly moved by their kindness. I've been going to this office for many years and I honestly feel like I'm visiting family whenever I go. They treat you as a person not just a patient number. I had a tooth that was bothering me and my regular dentist had recently retired, so I tried out City Smiles. I called ahead to check if they take my insurance, and they said yes. "We have clients with the same employer and the same plan, so there will be no problem.". It took a few days and one rescheduling for me to get in, but I got in and they did some work. They didn't clean my teeth, which I thought was very strange, but I went ahead and made a separate teeth cleaning appointment for two days later. Well, it turns out that they don't take my insurance and they billed me about $1,000 for the filling and cleaning. (They technically take it, but they're not in network so the insurance doesn't pay anything). Normally a cleaning is almost free with my insurance (or a nominal charge like $20), and work like this might be a couple hundred dollars. On top of everything, the work they did wasn't effective and I still have pain in the area they "fixed". read more

Coming into the office in response to a discomfort on the right side my face, upon examination, Dr Coke and Daniell(a?) informed me that I had a bacterial infection in the gums that housed a wisdom tooth, showed me how it appeared in the x-rays, and that it needed to be pulled. Obviously such news was very alarming to me at first but they were very good at putting me at ease that the procedure would be much easier than I had initially anticipated. They patiently, calmly, and (dare I say?) caringly managed to talk me into the procedure. Through the compassion I experience in the care I have received by the staff at City Smiles, they are completely changing my life-long understanding of dental care, challenging my lifelong memories of pain, icky sounds in my head, and gross smells and tastes, and all other aspects associated with dental care. Whatever is the general expectations, training, employee incentives, and protocol in place at City Smiles that insures this levels attention, care, and customer service, PLEASE KEEP IT UP. I am a 40 year old man-child who has fucking hated going to the dentist his whole life. Since walking though the doors at City Smiles, my initial understanding that physical and psycoligical torture is inevitably a necessary component of quality dental care is being disconstructed with each visit to City Smiles. I don't think I could recommend this place enough to anyone with apprehension and anxiety about going to the dentist. read more

Even though I found out they my insurance considers them "out-of-network" I want to stay with Dr. Patel. I loved my experience there. The X-Ray tech, and dental hygienist were so sweet, gentle, and kind. I did not feel ashamed for putting off the dentist for so long. They were honest from the start, but not judgmental. Dr. Patel is amazing, she is such a gentle and sweet soul of a person. Which is why I am willing to foot the bill and stay with them. I found this place through 1-800-DENTIST. I live in Lakeview and the woman I spoke to insisted this was the closest dentist. I was desperate since it was a dental emergency. Its pretty far, but it was worth it...at first. Dr Simon is really nice and the staff is helpful. Some of their instruments/technology amazed me...my old dentist didn't use some of those things. I like how the administrative assistant goes over the charges with you and lets you know what your insurance will cover. If you need additional work done, she will also break down the cost. On another visit, Dr Simon asked if I was interested in braces. Now I have ONE tooth on the bottom, in front thats slightly crooked. Its never bothered me and not noticeable when I smile. I told him I wasn't interested. He then went on with a speech on why people should get braces. He said first impressions are important and others will think highly of you if they see you take care of your teeth! After his little sales pitch, I told him I wasn't interested again. The next time I came in, he did it again! I felt like he just wanted my money. It also made me uncomfortable and kinda chipped away at my self esteem. no other dentist has ever pressured me to get braces. I haven't been back and will find another place when I need a cleaning/checkup. Its a shame because I really did like this place, even though it was a pain to get to by bus. read more

I have been going to see Dr. Simon at City Smiles for more than 25 years and I wouldn't go anywhere else. I used to be terrified of the dentist because I didn't take care of my teeth and everything, including cleanings, hurt a lot. From the very beginning of my treatment with them, they have treated me kindly and gently and slowly helped me get back to good dental heath. I have gotten over my fear of the dentist because my gums are so much healthier now and far less sensitive. I've had a lot of restoration from fillings to crowns to onlays. When I've needed a specialist, the recommendations have always been stellar. (So if you need an implant, you will get a wonderful referral.) Also, our kids have been going here since they were very little and they have absolutely NO fear of the dentist, and their dental health is great due to the education they get there. If you have any fear of the dentist, look no further, this is the place for you. And their insurance coordinators are top notch so you won't have any of those headaches, either. If you don't have insurance, do yourself a favor and go anyway; they will help you with options. read more

Had an excellent experience at City Smiles. I had been a little lazy with my regular appointments in the past 3-4 years, after going religiously the rest of my life, and found the entire staff to be welcoming, informative, and friendly. I was used to my previous dentist doing things a different way, but all of the equipment at City Smiles seemed very high-tech and I left with solid advice and clean teeth. What sold me on the whole experience, was how well everyone communicated everything to me. I LOVE this dentist. I've gone to a dozen different dentists through-out my life, but not one has touched this place as far as quality of service and friendliness goes! The receptionists go out of their way to greet everyone by name when they come into the office. I'm always promptly escorted to one of the rooms in just a minute or two after I arrive. Most of the hygienists are super friendly and attentive. Occassionaly, there's someone who seems like she's having a bad day, but almost everyone in the office is very nice - which is important when you are getting your teeth cleaned (and could go anywhere for it) or when you are having major dental done (and feel nervous). But the main reason I love City Smiles is Dr. Simon. He's the best dentist I've ever had, and here's why: The man can communicate! I can count on him being very direct and using words I understand to explain any concerns he has about my teeth, and I love that! He's also very handsome and friendly. I feel so lucky I found City Smiles! If I could give them 10 stars I would. When I first went there I was surprised about how nice they were (I've had bad dentists my whole life). I have awful bad terrible horrendous teeth and they were not judgmental at all and didn't lecture me about anything. I didn't feel any discomfort during the whole ordeal so they make sure you are comfortable. They also work out payment plans if you need them and the receptionist are very friendly and explain everything instead of just signing you out. THE BEST PART....I took my 4 year old son to his 1st ever dentist visit and he needed work done. They were so nice and extremely exceptional with children. He loved the dentist trips so much he makes sure he keeps his teeth very clean so he won't disappoint them at his check up! The entire staff is so over-the-top nice it's almost painful. They genuinely care about your comfort and your big, stupid teeth. They'll tell you to floss more and they'll tell you that you brush like shit (buy a Sonicare is their mantra). They'll also tell you if your teeth look healthy. Dr. Simon listens to death metal and other genres of metal. He is a proponent of everything that kicks ass. One time I had to have some wisdom teeth extracted (read as shattered and then removed). He didn't get me all doped up but used an amount of novocain that would probably put down a toddler. Once I was good and sloppy he drilled, smashed, and shattered the rogue teeth in my face and shoved cotton in my mouth. "Go home" he said, no need for any pain medication. He was right - then I got drunk at night with large, gaping wounds in my mouth. Another time, I accidentally spit in the face of one of the technicians and I'm still allowed to return - these people are truly wonderful. There aren't a lot of people on this earth that can make you feel comfortable while they have a gloved hand shoved in your mouth. Go to Smoque after they clean your teeth. read more

Finally, I decided it was about time to take care of a nagging toothache I'd had for a while. A family member referred me to City Smiles and I could not be happier. The entire staff is super friendly and helpful. The ladies at the front desk worked hard with me to make sure I was getting the most of my insurance. The dental hygienists are super friendly and knowledgeable. Everyone made sure I was constantly comfortable and explained every step of the procedure to me. They even let me watch one of my favorite shows on the overhead tv while I waited for the extremely pleasant and helpful Dr. Patel. I was able to schedule appointments effortlessly without having to compromise my already hectic day to day schedule. I also had a laundry list of issues but they used all my insurance money on the small matters as they convinced me they were priority. left me with searing pain as little time went by. they are also extremely expensive compared to surrounding dentistries in the Chicago area. They come off extremely nice and forth coming and I can definitely say that they are mostly genuinely nice people but one assistant was extremely the opposite. She asked me personal questions about my life that were completely off topic and then had the nerve to comment on them negatively. Extremely rude and frankly just kind of creepy given that we are in a professional environment. All in all, just dig a little deeper. I am speechless! The most amazing customer service I have ever experienced HANDS DOWN. It had been over ten years since my last visit to the dentist due to a phobia, so this was a big step for me! From the moment I walked in, my anxiety about seeing a new dentist completely dissipated. I was greeted by the front desk receptionist with an introduction and a hand shake, then after filling out paper work, I was promptly called by possibly the most adorable dental assistant ever (Jeri) and she seriously made me feel like I was hanging out with a friend while she took xrays of my teeth! The hygenist, Chantel was incredibly warm and friendly, as well. Then I saw Dr. Patel, and she was super excellent, too! I scheduled my cleaning for next week, and truthfully, as crazy as this may sound, I am looking forward to going back to the dentist for the first time probably ever in my life.
