I have, and I can tell you that the care I received at this office was the antidote to that kind of bad medicine. I came to Irving Park Family Dentist for a second opinion on a treatment plan put together by an upscale office on Michigan Avenue, close to where I live. The plan was well outside my means, and I felt a strong resistance by doctors and staff there to exploring more affordable options. I began cold calling practices all over the city looking for someone who could perform both root canals and dental implants. There aren't many. When I called Irving Park Family Dental, they told me had one of the rare few on staff, and matched me with Dr. Sara Imtiaz. I wasn't crazy about trading in the office just steps from my place for an 8-mile-hike. For me, the trip involved a long haul on the train and a quick march through a torrential downpour. (Shout out to my new friends at Unique Thrift Store for the four-dollar umbrella.) When I got to the practice, I knew the trip was well worth the extra effort. In no time, I was having a consultation with Dr. Imtiaz that was anything but high-pressure. When I met her, I felt immediately at ease. It was her job, she explained, to present patients with plans for Optimal Care, the bare minimum, and all the options in between. That way, she said, doctor and patient can work together to craft the best treatment plan within the patient's means. As we crafted a plan, she actively listened to my questions and concerns. Her answers were illuminating and easy for a layman to understand. She was compassionate and wide open to altering the initial plan to one that fit my means while still serving my needs. The first step involved a molar that was bound to be a hard case, but she performed perfectly, extracting the tooth cleanly, and with a minimum of discomfort. It was all over before I knew it. Deftly done. Mercifully quick. Knowledgeable, articulate and thorough, Dr. Imtiaz brings an expertise to her work that will assure you you're under the care of a true professional, and a bedside manner that will reassure you you're in the hands of a doctor with a heart. Dr. Koch is very aware of your pain from many procedures and will make you comfortable as possible. She also is a perfectionist which I love! She has a high degree of focus on if her work is perfect before you leave. Also she will recommend issues with your teeth which you should take seriously. She won't shame you into not doing a procedure which I appreciate. She identifies issue which will be a problem if you let it go too long. I've experienced letting things go too long but she fixed that as well. She is one of their top dentists and I appreciate her. City Smiles as a whole is a great company. I want to also recommend Adriana as a hygienist. She is their top hygienist. She is very pleasant and is very concerned with your comfort as well as an expert at cleaning your teeth with precision and takes very much care in detail without a lot of pain. 5 stars for her as well!

The receptionist was super friendly and helpful from the moment I walked in the door. The dental assistant, Alex, and Dr. Tavolzhanskaya were both very gentle and caring. The Doctor was extremely thorough, doing an exam for oral cancer before we got started and also checked my blood pressure. I very much appreciated her attention to detail when reviewing my medical history and making recommendations. The X-rays of my teeth were up on a giant screen that I could see, which was pretty cool. They even gave me a goody bag at the end.

At the beginning of your appointment they ask you if you'd like to stream something on Netflix. Why doesn't every office use technology like this to make their patients more comfortable? It's very relaxing to watch a nature program for example, during a routine exam or cleaning. She had a look and told me I was good, and I was sufficiently impressed with both her and her office assistant, Rosie, that I decided to make them my go-to dentist. That was about a year ago, and so far it's been all smooth sailing. However, I feel like you never really know your dentist until something goes wrong - and today it did. I went in for "Max, two hours, one cavity for sure, maybe another." It turned into 4 hours of sweat, a teensy bit of blood, and no tears. The whole time she was perky and apologetic that this was happening (No need to apologize - my tooth is the one who owes us an apology!). She was also very patient with me, since my nerve was sufficiently ticked off that it took three rounds of anesthetic to get me to a place I couldn't feel anything. So, time for a solid Yelp review. My jaw is a bit sore from exertion, but when something went awry, I felt I was in good hands.

Now I don't know about you but if I'm a police officer and my coworker was just shot to death. I don't want to hear your ignorant opinion about a job you know nothing about. There's enough negativity and ignorance about policing, I certainly don't need to hear it at my dentist's office. The problem nowadays is that people don't know enough about being professional in a work environment and they certainly don't know when to keep their mouths shut. I would love for this woman to lose her job over the fact that she just lost a client but that probably won't happen. It really is a shame because I really do like Dr Alkass but I'm not going to give my business to a place I consider a hostile environment. UPDATE: Dr Alkass called shortly after this happened and was absolutely horrified about the situation. It turns out that the woman who was going to be cleaning my teeth was a temp who was taking the place of the excellent regular hygienist that they have named Milena. He assured me that the woman I encountered would not be back working at his business. We talked about the fact that in a professional environment there's just no place for that. Thank You Dr Alkass.
