When I first came here, it was such an amazing office. Small, quaint, family-run. You felt well taken care of and everyone was so friendly and welcoming. Dr. Feng has given me great advice and recommendations for a surgery I needed. The past few years though, they've remodeled and hired new people. The vibe is totally different, to the aggressive lady who cleaned my teeth to the accounts payable lady who texted me at 5:30pm on a Thursday demanding I pay a copay from a year ago! One I had no idea I owed and treated me like I had some outstanding balance I've been neglecting. I refused to pay it out of principle and the tone and delivery wasn't professional. The statement said in plain writing: "write off" and it's clear they were covering themselves with taxes. I don't recommend getting your dental work here, it's clear they're looking to make a profit more-so than keeping long-time standing clients. read more

Great place! I went here because it is close to home and because I believe in their general approach. I like how at the beginning of the pandemic they were giving out masks on the sidewalk and how they put up a mural on the side of their building. They are intentionally active in the community! My experience going there was great. They use email and text to help set up appointments and reminders, which is helpful. They create a nice ambience in the office, so it doesn't feel like a stale medical waiting room at all - more like a living room. I've been coming here for years, bringing my kids, and we've all loved it. When one child was five, they took their time with her to make her feel comfortable, and they put on cartoons for her to watch while they did my cleaning, so she couldn't wait to go back! :) Following my appointment, I had a time-sensitive question, and they texted me back right away with an answer. Also the following morning Dr. Feng texted me to check in. That is not only great service, but it is dedication to patients. I'm really grateful to have this dental practice in my neighborhood! I've visited this clinic twice. The first was a for a cleaning, and it was fine, though they did try to schedule me for some cosmetic procedures I didn't need. I just cancelled the appointments after. My second visit went horribly. I had an outbreak of canker sores all over the underside of my tongue and I wanted to get an Rx for dexamethasone. The dentist tells me to stick my tongue out and starts putting stuff on it without telling me what it is or asking for my consent or anything. I had to ask twice before he actually told me what he put on. The first answer was "medicine." We finish and they say it's $200. I ask if they ran it though my insurance and they said it's not covered by insurance. Turns out bc it's NOT FDA APPROVED. I am horribly disturbed and disgusted by how inappropriate this encounter was. This clinic is not transparent, and I felt like I got scammed. I would not have consented to the treatment if I knew that it wasn't FDA approved and if I knew of the cost. Additionally, he went on a rant about eastern medicine and how it's better. And that he might be a "western" doctor but he really believes in Chinese medicine. Be incredibly vigilant if you go here. read more

Wow! As someone who dreads the dentist I could not be more impressed with this place. For one, they have a super nice office. Everything has been updated fairly recently. But they also actually listened to my patient in take papers! I have an autoimmune disease which causes very weak enamel. They understood that and instead of scolding me for problem spots like most dentists have in the past, they helped me come up with a game plan to fight my weak enamel. I went to First Dental Center on 07/15/24 to have three cavities filled; it was an unpleasant experience. Though, the actual procedure wasn't bad. It was the dentist, Dr. Nguyen and the assistant Armand who held conversation after conversation, over me, who impacted my experience. I couldn't believe how unprofessional they were. Next, Aramand discussed how his son said he was born in the 1900s, his class reunion is coming, attending a martial arts event, staying in a hotel in Tinley Park, that he needs to request a day off, oh and he is looking forward to special order chairs. I suppose he thought that a person having extensive dental work would enjoy hearing about his personal life, you know captive audience and all. Surprisingly, Dr. Nguyen even engaged him (this flabbergasted me) by suggesting that he takes a half day off versus a full. I wish the doctor would've recommended quiet for the patient, an unwillingly listener. Then Armand hummed to every single song on the radio when he wasn't speaking. The first hygienist Krystal, was thorough and pleasant, along with the lady and gentleman who man the front desk. It was disheartening that no one realized a patient needs to be soothed. They made an already tense situation, well um, more tense. Basically, I paid over $500 to hear someone lay out the details their life. (The owner of the practice, Dr. Feng called and apologized for my experience. Not sure I'll return but I appreciated his call.) read more

However, after a deeply negative experience with their administrative staff, I feel it is important to share for others looking for a caring clinic at every point in the patient process. It goes without saying that the team of actual dentists, orthodontists, and dental assistants at this clinic are phenomenally caring, detail-oriented, and intentional listeners when it comes to creating an environment that is kind, accessible, and empathetic to all patients. Today, I felt the polar opposite from this administrative staff member after simply trying to clarify some information about my billing experience. She used an admonishing tone not letting me finish my sentences, overall belittling language, and made inaccurate assumptions about my character situation. After facing some truly traumatizing dental experiences elsewhere, I thought I had finally found somewhere that I didn't have to dread or fear my appointments but this experience made me feel unwelcome, unheard, and diminished. I'm genuinely heartbroken about this experience with this staff member as Dr. Feng and the entire crew of dentists are deeply kind and caring. Updating to 1 star. You would not believe. I just received notice from my insurance that services from Winston Feng are not covered. Well, when I contacted the business I told them I needed to see Michael Nguyen because he was covered by my insurance. They told me that Winston "is his son" (like that matters!) and that the have the same insurance coverage. As much as I searched for Michael Nguyen, I couldn't find him. I guess his business is listed under a different name?? So, now I'm stuck with the FULL bill because this business has screwed me over yet again. read more

One of the few dentists I've been to where despite the soreness and high pitched instruments and general unpleasantness of going to a dentist, I walked out thinking "damn, this was a great experience." From the scheduling to the actual procedure, Winston and his staff are extremely professional and have great processes set up for a great patient experience. The in-chair experience is, dare I say, pleasurable. They are thoughtful with noise canceling headphones, lavender scented neck pillows, and a great atmosphere for dental treatment. I've been trying to find a new local dentist and this office seemed lovely and friendly on a neighborhood walk. In advance of my first appointment there was a lot of paperwork but I appreciated that it included space for me to discuss any key experiential needs. I explained in advance that I have a history of rapid plaque build up but that I've always been able to have that managed in one longer appointment but that I left my last dentist because they insisted I split it into two cleanings and fought me on my not wanting numbing and this caused discomfort and anxiety. I again addressed this with my hygienist in person (she was awesome) who said this would be no problem. I thought we'd be getting to the X-rays and cleaning but instead I spent two hours getting 3d scans which the hygienist clearly explained and then the Dentist came and explained again (I felt bad for the hygienist having to listen this and attempted to politely assure the Dentist his explanation was redundant). I was then shuffled to a scheduler who told me I had to come back for my cleaning spread across two appointments with numbing. I started to explain how I have a long history of being fine with a single, longer cleaning without numbing and was told that wasn't an option - I needed two visits for a total of $1600 beyond my insurance coverage (in addition to the cost of the 2 hour X-ray visit I had just endured). It felt like gaslighting. Why ask me my preferences and act like you care only to completely ignore me? Why not look at my past records and trust my telling you what I can handle? And if you know you're unwilling to accommodate my needs, why let me book an appointment weeks out and waste two hours of both of our time? How did my cleaning appointment turn into two hours of X-rays? Visiting the Dentist is anxiety inducing for most. I think at the very least a clear outline of what to expect is a reasonable ask. I've now had to wait months (as my need for maintenance care surely gets much more intense) for the new year for my insurance to reset so I can find another Dentist where I hope my annual visit will lead to better outcomes. read more
