"WOW!" is an understatement. Several weeks back I had a genuinely traumatic experience while pet sitting for a friend in Park La Brea while she was in NYC for her birthday. One of her cats had bitten the leaf of a of Lily (turns out they are very poisonous! Just Google it...) & needed to be taken to an emergency vet center. But, while shooting a photo of the flowers for the vet's reference - now thrown out into the back patio - my foot slipped and the door closed behind me locking me out of her apartment. Cat, purse, keys, credit cards, all pet sitting info & contacts UNAVAILABLE because once a PLB door closes it is locked (one of their security measures)! I only had my cell phone & my brain get me through this debacle. One neighbor was able to give me PLB Security's phone number. I called and explained the urgency of the situation - time sensitive for the cat. They ignored that I told them my friend was on a plane from NYC to LAX - was unreachable to vouch for me to let me into her unit; left me on hold for almost 20 minutes; still tried to reach her; pretty much good for nothing in this emergency. I hung up and proceeded with Plan B... to get into the apartment with a set of extra keys in possession of the friend picking her up at the airport (who lives in Inglewood AND would need the keys returned). What a fiasco! My mind raced to think of a dependable messenger service who would TRUST me because I had no form of payment available at that moment. Gratefully, I remembered the incredible messenger service we used (for 17 years) when I worked for QAS Productions in Venice... Santa Monica Express (SMEX) Almost daily they made the impossible possible!! I called... and Howard's familiar voice immediately assured me that my problem had an imminent solution. He recognized my voice (even though we had not spoken in about 8 years), dispatched a rush non-stop messenger to Inglewood to pick up the keys and trusted me to provide payment after the fact based on our history. The word "Lifesaver" comes to mind here. It is not an understatement! If SMEX (specifically Howard) had not responded fully & immediately to my urgent plea, Bandit (the cat) could have died. Saying "THANK YOU, SMEX & HOWARD!" seems inadequate. But, it will have to do for now... IF I could give SMEX 10 stars, I would! There simply is NO better - more efficient, dependable, reliable - messenger service in our big crazy city! One less thing to worry about... read more

SMEX has been such an amazing company to work with during these trying times while working from home. Back in March 2020 when everything shut down, including our company, we were all sent home to work. Our Accounting Department prints checks twice a week and require second signatures and audits prior to being mailed out. Compliance does not allow one person to handle this all, so the checks need to be picked up from one home and delivered to another home to be mailed out. Every week, twice a week. Without SMEX we would not have survived. They were so accommodating and understanding while we were in our learning curve of still figuring all of this out. I WAS DESPERATE! i needed something picked up fast in Beverly Hills. I was way too busy to go myself. I called and spoke to Armando, who was unfailingly polite and helpful and took all my information. I asked to have it here in Santa Monica at least by 4pm. Here is it 1:30pm and it is already here and that is from Beverly Hills during lunch time!
