I'm really particular about where my fur child goes to get his hair did. However when my baby's regular groomer left his place I was nervous about where to go next. I found this place on Yelp and liked that it's close to my office so I took him on over to see Nicole. Not only was Nicole attentive with my wants/dislikes but she did exactly what I asked and an overall awesome job on my Knight!! Also I had the pleasure of speaking with the owner Jackie as well which was awesome because you could tell she loves what's she does and it automatically made me feel comfortable leaving my fur child there. First time here at this location and will be the last!! I was hesitant when reading the reviews because of one that stood out. I decided to go in anyways however I don't know where the confusion happened of my dog being completely shaved when I had asked for a teddy bear cut. When I called to speak to them there was no explanation as to why they shaved all her hair off when I had specified a teddy bear cut! They offered 20% discount next time but that's not the point! So disappointed!! Her groomer (RUTHIE GASTINEAU) They also mentioned they nipped her ear but her leg also had a cut! She even has patches! My other dog came out ok however her groomer (RICO PALOMINO) mentioned that it was his first time doing a schnauzer cut, I'm glad at least he let us know(but this was until my sister picked them up?!). I'm still very upset I just believe they should mention this beforehand!!! First that it would be his first time doing this cut and if it'd be ok to continue, and second, when they have to shave all the hair off it's usually because they're matted (this was not the case) they usually call to let you know! Love the do-it-yourself bath! I have a very large 90-lb mutt and we've struggled to find an easy way to get him in the tub at other locations where the baths are almost 3 feet up off the ground. Lifting him is beyond my abilities and jumping in and out on a slippery wet floor is dangerous for his long gangly legs. Smelly Dog has hydraulic tubs, so he can step right in, we shut the door, and then I raise it to a comfortable height for me. It's wonderful! I also love the efficiency of having the shampoo run right through the water faucet. It self-lathers and easy to spray on and rinse off with a quick flip of the dial on the faucet. Their staff was really helpful and showed me how to use everything, and even insisted on finding my boy a tasty treat he'd eat! read more

This is my first time getting my dog groomed in Phoenix and I am so upset with what they did to my dog, they completely shaved him which I didn't ask for and everyone that has a doodle knows you're not supposed to groom them like a poodle which is what this place did and they didn't give him the haircut that I asked for at all. I asked for a teddy bear cut with a rounded head and rounded paws and they give me my dog with a completely shaved body, long fluffy ears and tail. First time using a groomer. Recommend by my Vet. Willow is a 7 yr old GoldenDoodle and not sure when she was last groomed. She came to us as a rehome (lucky for us). Very unhappy customers!! I took my baby Abbey for a haircut and nail grinding. I told them ahead of time that she doesn't like getting her hair cut. I'm sure she's not the first difficult dog. I also told them I didn't want the top of her head cut too short. What I got was a freaked out and uneven dog. The body hair was as short as I wanted it, but uneven all over. No doubt because Abbey is difficult, but never before has this happened. Also, the top off her head was WAY too short and uneven at that. My poor Abbey was acting so strange for the past 4 days since her haircut. I have really been worried about her. The groomer recommended that I drug her next time, and I am not sure if they did that without my consent, or if they were too aggressive and it has kept her freaked out. But her personality really hasn't been the same. we will definitely NOT be coming back here. read more

Great for self-wash. Well, not washing ones self, that would be a bit messy and exhibitionist, but for self-washing the dog(s), Smelly Dog does not stink. The tub/water sprayer/implements setup is good, especially now that they have new nozzles with great water pressure (this was a problem before) and a choice of spray settings, The shampoo and conditioner provided are all-natural and low-suds. One of my dogs is extremely furry, and it's hard to get the low-suds shampoo into her coat, so I bring my own for her. The high powered dryers are great, and do a good job of blowing loose fur out of the coat. Sunday at opening time is the best time I've found on weekends for a relatively calm environment. Gets frenetic later on in the day. $15 per dog for self wash is a smoking deal - especially for a furry dog that costs extra at a groomer (most groomers charge $60 each for my dogs). read more

Great local dog grooming place thats super affordable and friendly. Just recently started taking my pup Henry here and it was his first experience ever at a groomers with professionals. When I got him back he was completely calm and not nervous or shaking at all which I totally expected from him and it being his first time, but showed that they definitely took good care of him and I could trust them with my little man so of course I went back. Wasn't that expensive either and completely reasonable, especially worth it to avoid mess and hassle of trying to do it yourself and having a ugly as shit dog anyways, so thank goodness these guys made my poor dude handsome again. First time dog owner and first visit. Very impressive! Staff was friendly and patient and answered all my questions. The space is clean and inviting, and the services surpassed expectation. We went full groom plus some extras and our puppy came out happy and beautiful. We also got a full report on how she did during the groom. Our pup also had a chance to sample some treats - she LOVED them, and we love that they are made with real dog friendly ingredients. This will be our go to for grooming and boarding. You cannot beat the service and how well they treat the fur babies. The area has a lot of restaurants and shops in case you have to pass some time. Very friendly and helpful staff. I dropped my dog off first thing in the morning, and they began work on her before I even left. I also picked up a new collar since she'd outgrown her existing one. They were kind enough to transfer her tags and size it for her. They even helped put her harness on when I picked her up a few hours later making things much easier on me. She sheds a lot, and the groomer did a good job deshedding her. Whatever shampoo they used did a great job softening her hair. The store has a little bit of everything. Grooming, bakery, dog food, harnesses, leashes, dog bowls, etc... The store was a bit of a tight fit for my power wheelchair, especially when they're checking in/out other dogs, but plenty big enough for any able bodied person. I wish we had grooming and pet supply stores like Smelly Dog in Los Angeles, but we don't! On the grooming side, they're awesome. They really treat your pets well. Everything is behind a glass window so you have complete transparency (literally). And the shop... I cannot say enough about their awesome selection of, well, everything. Better toys than I've ever seen at a pet shop and really high quality food (and I'm not talking big corporate brands). For such a small store they really pack it in with a punch. I've never seen such cute small toys before. Normally I get my choice of 1 and if I'm lucky 2 toys that will fit in my doggies' mouths. But at Smelly Dog I had a large selection to choose from. Today was the day of my angel, Mio Angelo's first hair cut and I will be completely honest, I was close to tears dropping him off. The employees brought out the groomer and the groomer showed me what a cocker spaniel hair cut entailed and what I wanted. I let her know my specifications and she let me know she would take extra care to make sure he felt safe. As she eased my fears, she eased Mio's, and he sat on her lap. When Mio came out looking like Brad Pitt I was floored that this was my dog. He looked so handsome and perfect! I only bring her in once a week, so I really appreciate being able to purchase a small pack of visits. Other places do not seem to be so flexible. Also, I appreciate the cute "report cards" so I can see her progress from the first visits where she was shy little pup, to the more recent visits that show her true colors of an outgoing, playful dog. read more

I scheduled my lab for a haircut and bath at 2:30 arrived on time with both of my dogs and self washed my pitbull because he can be difficult with strangers.. by the time I was finished very slowly washing my pitbull for about 45 minutes they still had not taken my lab back for her grooming. I stood around and waited with both dogs for quite some time before I decided to ask when she would be next and they said 2 hours! Why make an appointment for 230 if you aren't actually grooming her when I bring her in? She was hooked up on a small lead to the wall just staring at me so I decided to self wash her as well and just try another groomer in the future. The self wash itself was a great feature and if I have the time or the desire to drive over there again I may try to do it myself another time but I don't think I'll waste my time with the groomer as I'm not okay with my dog being stuck to a wall for hours before she gets her haircut. read more

Lastly, online the price was $47 for a medium dog & I walked out with a $60 bill + tip that I wish I wouldn't have given should I had seen his razor burn sooner. Due to the price of dog grooming for mini Aussie I'm not particularly loyal to any groomer in town. I found a yelp deal so decided to try smelly dog. Staff is friendly, I like the earlier hours on Saturdays as I like to get my dog in earlier. Store looked a bit cluttered like it was maybe outgrown its retail space, but not in a messy way. Phone follow up was very good as they called me ten minutes before he was done. He was soft, clean and clipped. It only took about two hours. Only areas of improvement I noted, were that he had quite a bit of loose hair on his body, so advise next time to brush him out as it was on my car seat. After getting fed up with a groomer who kept forgetting instructions and hours of wait, I tried Smelly Dog after a friend recommended it. Thank god. The biggest thing I appreciate above all else is their attention to detail and taking down information. I have brought my dogs there for over a year and it's reassuring that I can hand the pups off to the same familiar faces every time and they get to actually know the dog's behavior. The store is gorgeous. You can tell a ton of thought went into it. It has a real boutique feel as opposed to the Petsmart big box factory feel. I highly encourage people to give Smelly Dog a try. In her response yes I did get the other staff involved but I did not tell at them. I asked them a question. If your dog came back the way you asked them not to do you will be upset about it. I did not get loud until she basically called me a liar without saying it. I told a customer to be careful with her 3 dogs as she walked in. I wouldn't want them to go what I went through. I'm quite disappointed in how they especially the owner insulted my intelligence. I specifically asked and told them not to cut my dogs ears down bc that is what makes her. Owner came and talked to me and try to say that I am a liar and dont know how long its been when I got my dog groomed and wasnt sure if I'm telling the truth. Showed her recent pictures of my dog ears and how they look. She said she will stand by her employees but of your employer messed up correct the action so it wont happen again. Instead she basically called me a liar. I do not want nicole the groomer to lose her job because we all need jobs so I dont get why she said she stand by her when the obvious was right in the picture where she messed up. I was about to opt for the next grooming offer until she called me a liar and I told her I will no longer be doing business and warned a customer to be there with there dog to get groomed. On top of that I paid for my dog to get her teeth cleaned and they did not do that. They do great job on clipping there nails and that is it. Front staff even agreed that I said dont cut my dog ears. I left upset and hurt due to how they treat there customer. I wanted a refund but they way the owner treats the customer I knew that was not going to happen. Please reconsider if you care about your dog appearance. I trusted them bc mi dog has a hunter leg and they was gentle before when I got her nails clipped but I will never bring a pet or reccomend them again to anyone. read more

I would not even give this place a one star after my interaction with them today. But in order to leave a review I had to click on one star. My dog had a 230 appointment he was dropped off at 2 o'clock, I was called to pick him up at 440. This was just for a bath no cut. I called at 230 to verify what services DJ will be getting and how long it will take I was told TJ will be getting a bath and that it would take about an hour, i called once done with my errands at 350 i was told he was just put in the tub it will be another 40 mins. I got to the groomers right as they were calling me to let me know that DJ was ready. When DJ was brought to me I am mediately noticed that his arm fur looked a bit wet and said it out loud, the female representative who was ringing me up stated that it was maybe because DJ did not like the blow dryer's. Are usually don't have an issue with blow dry and DJ. Then I noticed at the bottom of DJs feet still look dirty, The female representative replied that's just his color. I paid for my service and even tipped not till I was about to put my dog nto my car did I noticed that he still had poop stuck to the hair near his anal, which i knew he had before i dropped him off. Once again the female representative who did not want to give me her name she said she refused to and she doesn't have to she states that that was not poop that it was skin why would my dog have dry skin stuck to his fur near his anal area? My complaints again where that DJ was not fully dry and brushed out, he was not washed thoroughly because he still had her at the bottom of his paws, and he had dry poop still stuck to his fur near his anal none of which the female representative fail to acknowledge she stated that there was nothing wrong with him because she saw nothing wrong with him. I asked for managers information she gave me a telephone number that led to a voicemail with no name, after I left a voicemail five minutes later I receive a phone call from a female representative with a different voice from the location I just left. She stated she just missed my call and how can she help me. If I called the manager and the manager was calling me back from the location I just left why couldn't I have spoken to her in person when I was there. But then I find out that she was not the manager so then that left me confused to who I called and left a voicemail. I found this place to be very unprofessional. And I was treated very unfairly. This is in response to Jacqueline's reply Your stuff is not always friendly and treat people with kindness and respect. When my partner dropped off my dog he also expressed to me that a male representative was very rude to him. I was in class so I could not tell him not to leave my dog there. When I came in to pick up DJ your staff was friendly, but had an excuse for everything. Your representatives did not point out that DJ what is wet I've pointed it out. And that is when your female representative told me it could have been because of DJ being scared of the dryer which she has visited your location several times and never had an issue and anytime I blow dry him he never has an issue. The real issue was your guys his work ethic and maybe short staffed. I never cursed at your representative that is out of my character and very unprofessional of you to say such lies. What I told her was she is not trying to understand what I'm telling her. If you call her helping by grabbing a brush and trying to brush out his arms when they were still damp? I was told by the female representative that called me who should have been Liz that they had lost their grooming manager today. So im sure they were short staffed. Why did it take so long to give DJ just a bath? Did you see the part when I returned into the store expressing that DJ still have poop on his anal area? Address that please as well. You have some really unprofessional people working for you and it seems that they are learning from you since you as well are using excuses for your bad business. Best place ever! Been bringing dogs here for over 5 years at least and never been unhappy with services, products, and staff. Have tried other places but nobody does as good of job and returns my dogs as happily and quickly as them! Definitely book your appointments in advance as they do get very booked up.
