I tried Smashburger for the first time in TX during a Yelp event and really enjoyed it. I came to this restaurant to see if they had the same flavors and they did. I chose the BBQ burger and although it was good it wasn't the best. The regular burger and the truffle fries were pretty good. I would recommend that one. The BBQ burger is pretty simple, aside from the sauce and the meat it doesn't have anything else. There is a parking lot outside of the restaurant and the place is very clean. "There's a Shake Shack right there." "Really?" "Yeah.  I've stopped at that location a few times now." "Shake Shack?  That's my fave..." "I know." "Okay, let's go there then!" I'm driving, the Mrs. is helping me to navigate the ins and outs of the various highways and roadways and when we finally pulled into the parking lot I saw that... it's really a Smashburger.  (The joys of old age and your memories never being too reliable!)  This was my first time in the area (the mother-in-law is currently couped up at one facility, one of my kid's orthodontist is right across the street) and the whole fam decided to grab lunch at Shake, I mean... Smashburger.  I gotta say: I really dug the 'vibe' as soon as we walked in.  There was a cool 'mood' (layout, design, color choices) that their location on Rt. 3 is missing.  Otherwise...it's what you know/expect.  (Better than the likes of Red Robin and Habit Burger Grill, but can't dethrone Shake Shack.) The food is served entirely too hot. We were the only people in the place at the time but our meals still came out staggered so we're all eating at slightly different times. (I'll never grasp how/why that is, but the Smashburger in Clifton that we usually hit is keen on this as well.)  It ain't cheap but the food is tasty, the portions are legit.  A parking lot (which I think they kinda-sorta share with the various businesses in the vicinity).  For the record: half of my family swears the spicy chicken sandwich at their Rt. 3 location is much hotter (spice-wise) and messier (all around). read more

Simple to order online, service was quick when I came to pick up and there was no line. Fries were a little overcooked for the sweet potato fries, and the Oreo milkshake was a little thin but otherwise delicious. Stopped here for lunch on our road trip. The restaurant was pretty clean and service was fast. We ordered at the cashier and we were given a number to place at our table. The food was then delivered to us. I ordered the classic smash burger with bacon. I also got the tots which were so crispy and well seasoned with rosemary and salt. The burger was pretty juicy. We also ordered the avocado bacon club burger which was good as well. The avocado was a nice touch to the burger. The sweet potato fries were also crispy and salty. We also ordered the truffle mushroom swish burger but this burger was much smaller than the other two. There weren't as many toppings that came with the burger so it was less filling. You'd think a place that charges roughly 15-20% more vs. the average fast food joint would have better quality and be more consistent but you'd be wrong. I've gone to this location a few times over the course of 3 years and it's been hit or miss at best in a linear fashion with now mostly being a miss. The food is often warm on its way to cold which I'm not sure how this is possible as I'm placing the order right in the restaurant. I've had 4 different occasions where the wrong items were given to me with my order or just blatantly missing items, and while they always correct the issue when I bring it up I do find it happening a little too often; and the staff while often times pleasant have recently been increasingly rude and inattentive. Overall it's safe to say I'm done with this place and probably the chain as a whole. Mediocre food and service at a premium price sums up the experience with smash burger as of late. read more

So I went today to Smashburger in Hackensack on Essex St. Honestly, I haven't been there in a while and apparently, things have changed... I ordered the "Bacon avocado club". I was asked, "single or double" so I thought "double" will be too much. I said, "just the single, please". I also asked for no buns. To complete my order, I ordered also sweet potatoes fries and a soda. Once I got my "burger", almost got a heart attack.. it was a flat piece of meat. Don't get me wrong. I get the smash burger concept. But really? I did not remember being like that. The manager told me very nicely that 1. it is Angus meat and that meat is expensive, and 2. according to their research, people feel happy with the "double burger". Now, check this out. Smash burger cut their original burger in half so you pay $2 more dollars for the double. Look at the size of the meat. Ask for the burger without the bun to see how much do you really get. The cashier that took my order was incredibly rude and unprofessional. She snapped at my friend and me to order faster even though there was no one behind us. I LOVE smashburger but this experience wasn't so pleasent! We went to eat there because my daughter was having a after party for her softball team. So the food was delicious, but my other daughter is picky so we only get her a plain burger with ONLY A piece of lettuce. In a world overflowing with burger places, smashburger is "good". The restaurant is a typical fast food environment and have multiple options and sides. The menu is a little much and quite possibly be confusing for some. The prices were quite high for what you get. I had the Colorado burger where my GF had the standard. We both got the "big" size (no idea what the difference is between both), and both opted for the meal which was around $4 extra. The fries were great I must say. Both burgers had good options just felt like something was missing. Don't get me wrong they tasted good and I ate the whole burger just left me wishing for something more.
