Hamburger salty......shake like chocolate milk.....not very good...stools very uncomfortable....overall ....n0t a place I would visit again

The burgers tasted good , however, our orders didn't come out together. My girlfriend's burger and onion rings were delivered to our table separately. As we were eating saw a waitress fix a to go order. As she placed the french fries in the bag, the palm of her hands touched the french fries. I am glad that wasn't my to go order. read more

Bad customer service. They charged mi 2 times a milkshake, they also forgot about my burger, so I was waiting like 10 minutes and the burger was ready long time before. Result a cold meal read more

decent burgers and good fries, but a bit pricey and nothing overly impressive. I'll stick to Nosh when I crave ground beef on a bun

I've been here twice because it is by my work. The first time they gave my order to someone else without realizing it. I had to wait another 10 minutes for mine to cook. The second time the cashier forgot to take off a coupon. Overall the food is good. I love the spinach, cucumber, and goat cheese as a beef burger or as chicken sandwich. The smash fries are amazing. My coworkers were all trying to steal them when I got back to the office. My only complaint is that the staff always seem like they are rushing and that's why the mistakes happen. They apologize and correct the errors. If I could give 3.5 stars I would! read more

I like the food here. You can get a large order of Smashfries and a regular burger for less than $10. I am a regular. The shakes are good, and the services has been courteous. -1 star for inconsistent food. Sometimes, the burgers are delicious. Other times, they are just OK. However, still 4 stars for the quality given the price point. read more

Solid black bean burger and regular burgers and fries. Overall a great fast food joint with better quality ingredients.

Smash burger is located in a strip mall with other restaurants and businesses. The parking is tight and this area is hopping for lunch. There is a decent sized lot for parking but it fills up fast. Inside you wait in line and place your order and they bring the food to you. The menu is hard to see and figure out. They have some house burgers or build your own. They also have chicken sandwiches and salads. I got the build your own "big" burger, on pretzel roll, with LTM plus the smash fries. The burger was maybe 1/4 pound at most. It was cooked well but still greasy as all. It had a decent taste but nothing special. Its somewhere between a good fast food burger and an actual specialty burger. The fries though cooked up crispy were super thin and again super greasy. The seasoning of rosemary and garlic was nice, but loose the oil. The whole plate was floating in grease. Im just not a fan of those ultra thin fries, so might as well skip those. And smash fries just means they are even more greasy as far as I could tell. The burger fries and drink cost me nearly $13. Overpriced in my opinion considering what you get. The service seemed OK to me, though certainly nothing stellar. read more

Smashburger - Build your own "big burger", smash fries, and a ton of grease! - Burgers Near Me - Durham, North Carolina

I visited this location for the first time around 9:30pm (they close at 10) so I'm not sure if that affected my experience. The server who took my order was very friendly and well mannered. That part of the service was not the problem (he was great handling my order while closing up the place). I placed an order for a mushroom and Swiss burger on a pretzel bun, smash fries, and a salted caramel shake. I ordered a salted caramel shake after reading the reviews on here and I complete agree- the shake is great and a must try. It's also made right at the counter and served pretty quickly. I found that while the smash fries had potential to be really good they were only subpar on this occasion. All the fries, from top to bottom, were cold. I opened up my burger to see that I received an egg bun instead of the pretzel bun I had asked for (this was only a minor issue and not something I felt the need to return to fix). Along with my slight disappointment of not getting to try the pretzel bun, I thought that the burger looked a little small compared to all the other pictures I've seen. It looked like it was all bun (although the bun was fluffy). I also had to check to make sure there were actually mushrooms on the burger because I didn't see any at first glance. The burger was pretty good. There were a few bites that tasted very salty so a drink (besides the shake) is definitely needed to wash down the burger. Overall the food was good and I will probably eat here again but it would not be my first choice of a burger place. There are other places that serve great tasting, larger burgers around the same price to consider. I do suggest trying it to form your own opinions of it though. read more

Absolutely amazing burger. It was filling but not too heavy. The fries were the best part for me. I'm sure I'll be visiting at least twice a week. read more

Burger was decent. Fries okay. Nothing extra or fancy. Typical burger joint with inflated prices.

Ugh. Greasy burger, day old fries to go. Nice atmosphere and pretty speedy service but what does not matter when the food's not so good?

Worst burger, way over cooked. I had an egg added to burger and it was cooked too death, looked gross. I also add the onion pedals, they also cooked way too much. I won't be back! read more

I was excited to try Smashburger, so I went to their website. The number they listed for the Durham location was wrong. They mistakenly listed the phone number for some location in Minnesota. Finally I found the Durham phone number, but they apparently do not accept pick-up orders!! I don't quite understand why you have someone answering the phone when you don't accept phone orders. That doesn't seem like a good use of that person's time. And what's the rationale for not accepting phone orders? I was ready to place an order and give you my business, but I guess you would rather not have my money. read more

We went back after the owner called us to apologize it was a lot better and the staff was a better . The fries aren't the best but all in all it was good. read more

I order a smash burger with whole wheat bun and avocado. I definitely think the burger is above average but the smash fries were pretty amazing. Like I wanted more once I was done. They're very thin and maybe a bit too oily but they are seasoned very well. I'm definitely going back for some more. read more

Food is good but do NOT get takeout. They will inevitably leave something off of your order and you will be getting back in the car to go back. read more

The burger falls somewhere between fast food and chop house burgers. My burger was slightly over cooked but not enough to complain about and was worth the price. It is more expensive then a McDonald's but well worth it. read more

Smashburger is tasty, but the service is terrible and I legitimately think that the employees are pure stupid. This place is right downstairs where I live, and every now and then when I crave a burger I go, and end up dissappointed with the shitty service ones again. I recently got a shake and it took them 25 minutes to prepare it, just a shake. They told me they were understaffed, which is not the customers problem. Besides that, the area where the cooks put the burgers for the servers pick them up and bring them to tables is right next to the seating area. Customers constantly get confused of what to do: should they pick up their burgers or sit and wait for them to be delivered for 15 minutes while theu can obviously see they are ready. Again, THE SERVICE IS TERRIBLE, but has good food. read more

The burgers are so good. I wish I would've gotten the cashiers name because she was FAB! Very clean and the atmosphere is nice!

The burger is slightly above average, but smash fry is too oily and salty for me. Milkshake is great, which is a pretty cool drink in the summer. read more

The food was great! I ordered a classic smash and smashfries both great! The employees were very nice! However, I would not recommend online order. I waited 10 min past my due time. When I got everything I had luke warm food and a watery milkshake. Eat in. It will probably be great! read more

Aside from the location being unexpectedly closed the last time I was here...the food is great. I tried the club burger and it was delicious! I am a regular of this place and I don't normally stray from the classic but glad I did this time around. Brandon was very good 28th customer service and making sure my order was correct. Thanks guys! read more

This place was good. Not great, nothing special, just a good burger and fries. A little overpriced in my opinion but the device at this particular location was great. read more

I have been to this location several times. Mainly because I like the burgers and smash fries. However EVERY time I've been here I have had trouble with my order and poor customer service. Most of the time I eat in and a couple of times I've gotten it to go which takes forever. After today's experience I doubt that I will come to this location again. The service and efficiency is too terrible to endure for an ok burger and fry. read more

After an unfortunate first experience with Smashburger the owners responded in the best possible way- they wrote me a message, apologized for the mix-up over the phone, and made it up to us by letting my team place a complimentary lunch order. It meant a lot to me that I was personally contacted by the owners and that they did everything in their power to make up for an initially poor experience. Just this week we ordered from Smashburger, and, when I went in to the store to pick up the order, the manager made a point of emphasizing how much they value our business. One person in our group got the Cobb salad and said it was delicious. My bacon bbq cheddar burger was quite tasty- the haystack onions were a nice touch. Everyone in my group enjoyed their food and we will definitely go back after being treated with such kindness and consideration. read more

They were out of avocado and they smashed the oreo milkshake too much. Meat was so so. Overall not worth price

Burgers are always prepared awesome. Mushroom truffle burger is great! Reika gave great customer service! Be sure to sign for the smashburger club to get $2.00 off. read more

We are at Duke Eye Center And looking for a place to stop for lunch. Your name was intriguing,so we stopped. Wow it was wonderful. Burgers were exceptional and the smash fries what an delight. You hit it out of the park. May I add the staff was friendly and very helpful. Will make a return visit. read more

Yummiest fries and burger I've had in a long while! I am in NC visiting from FL and I wanted to make sure I tried restaurants not in my city, this place was a definite WIN! The smash fries : awesome The spinach cucumber burger: To DIE FOR The service: EXEMPLARY. There wasn't a long wait time, it was expected for a made to order meal. I'm going back again before I leave and seeing what I can do to get one in my hometown! I would definitely recommend the eats this place has to offer! Two satisfied thumbs WAY UP! read more

Food was actually pretty good (hence the 3 stars) but the employees were ridiculous (more deserving of 0 stars) . Employees were running around in the restaurant chasing each other with the condiments, not using their inside voice , and braiding and flipping their hair behind the counter. Very unprofessional. read more

Got here before the lunch rush and food came quickly but the milkshakes only came after asking 3 times. They got busy but the attitude in response to requests that the order be fulfilled was rude. Even the manager put us off. Almost finished food before shakes arrived. read more

Girl taking my order has earbuds in. I had to repeat it three times. Every time I come in it just keeps getting more ghetto. This is the last time for me which is a shame since I like Smash Burger. read more

Worst Smashburger I've ever been to. Soggy fries that were actually cold and s...l...o...w service. It took 15 minutes to get the cold, soggy fries. read more

The new smashburger in Durham is the real thing. Let's start from the bottom line: the food is delicious. The ingredients are fresh and the food is being made on the spot. The burgers are very tasty, probably one of the best you will have in NC. The rosemary fries are huge hit as well. For the veggie people - you should definitely try the black bean burger. The decor at the Durham place is young and chic, and the greatest evidence that they do a good job is the fact that people go back time after time although they are opened for only 3 weeks now. We also liked the fact that the place is clean. The place also accommodates big to-go order. You could tell that they have a professional management that demands top service from the employees. read more

We visit Smashburger all the time and we had the worst experience tonight. The restaurant is so under staffed that with the rush we only got half our order and waited an hour for the remainder. Once we got the remaining order it was undercooked. The restrooms and restaurant do not have anyone attending to them, leaving no paper towels or clean tables. It was sad to see the employees run around, having many customers trying to track down their food. Huge disappointment tonight! read more

Too bad there isn't a zero star review. To start this off, we ordered and were told there would be a 15 minute wait. That turned out to be an HOUR long wait. But that was just the tip of the ice burg. The man at the window only gave us attitude, and when we asked the cashier for a refund our request was not only straight up ignored, but our food just magically appeared, so who knows how long it was sitting there. Look, I've worked in food service for years, so I'm not just being an asshole because some little thing was off, this service was absolute shit. We get to the car and notice they forgot a side. We go back in, get it sorted, more attitude from the guy at the window (who was doing his job in such a bizarre way, he was just making it take much much longer than necessary). Then we get home and notice they put cheese and a sauce on it that we specifically told them to leave off because of food intolerances. So now we can't eat our burgers and we're stuck with the soggy, cold fries. Thank you for wasting our time AND money!!!!! read more

Smashburger is my new burger addiction. Since we moved to Durham a few years ago, we've tried all the usual suspects, and while some other Durham restaurants have a decent burger, I always find myself annoyed at the crazy prices - to get my favorite which is a cheeseburger with bacon, it's usually $10-$12. The same at Smashburger? $6.29, or a dollar more if you want the bigger size. I love that they have a decently priced and sized kids' meal, as our family of three can eat there for about $20. This location is always clean, and while service has varied significantly at the counter, employees bringing our food are always polite and the food comes out promptly. Love the fries; have also tried the fried pickles which were a huge portion and so salty I couldn't finish them, but a nice novelty to try once. Burgers are delicious, toppings are super fresh and the customize your own burger option is great. It's not a fancy place, but burgers don't need a dressed up environment. Wish I got more coupons from the Smash Club but when they do come, they're a great deal! One word of warning - the parking lot is shared by many other restaurants and is often crowded. read more

This is one of my new favorite places to eat at! My burger was fresh and hot and most of all it was delicious!!! The service here was wonderful! They went above and beyond with their customer service from the beginning to the end of my dining experience here today! A hidden jewel with a great combination of service and food!!! I must mention that I observed the staff working very well together as a team without missing a beat to ensure all the customers here today would have a great dining experience! This does not happen enough but I observed it here today! I will be returning to eat here again for certain next week with many of my colleagues. read more

Seriously, the best burger I've ever had!! I wish there was a location in Richmond, VA.
