So blessed to have found Keith. What an amazing person and what amazing service. Keith came the same day we called to give us a FREE estimate. After talking to other plumbers who wanted a fee just to come out to take a look. It turned out we had a leak in a pipe underneath our driveway and front lawn that was draining into the street for weeks. Keith was able to identify where the leak was without having to tear up our entire driveway and lawn. He was able to isolate to the smallest amount of concrete to tear up and only what was needed to dig up for the lawn. His workers were excellent and very respectful. Keith replaced the outgoing pipes from our house and did an excellent job a couple of years ago, so when our water heater went out last weekend Smart Choice was our FIRST choice. We had a new water heater installed and good to go the very next day! What family had major backed up plumbing issues during Covid Shelter-in-Place on a Sunday? Us. Our toilets, bathtubs, sinks were all backed up and who was going to be open and available? In the middle of remodeling our master bathroom, the water pipes got burst in late Friday afternoon. Water was gushing out from the flower bed and flooded down the street since our house was located up on the hill. The remodeling was already a bit stressful, but the broken water pipes on Friday at 5 PM made it worse. We called a number of plumbing services on Yelp and many of them were closed for the day. For some places, the intake process was painfully long and we were told that they could send out a person after several hours. And we got connected with Keith. One of many things we appreciated about him was that he understood our sense of urgency. To me, that is a sign of empathy. He was straightforward, yet kind and extremely personable. On Sunday late afternoon we discovered that the sewer line under our house had broken resulting in a stinky nasty mess pooling in a corner under the house Too Gross!! Clogged bathtub on a Saturday, this company was Yelp's 1st recommendation. The answering service took my name, number and address and told me I would be called back within 20 mins. After an hour with no contact, I called back. I was then transferred to 'Kevin', whom upon hearing where I live (coast), scoffed and told me, "We're in the peninsula. We don't come out there!" I asked why the answering service didn't tell me this and why he didn't call within 20 minutes and he said, "Good luck with your issue." And hung up on me. No apology. I waited over an hour for horrible service, a bad attitude, and my tub is still clogged. Not impressed. read more

I don't post Yelp reviews frequently, but the exceptional service we received from Keith and Smart Choice Plumbing really warranted my time to write this review and tell the community about him. Late Thursday night, we discovered that a copper pipe under our house in Palo Alto had sprung a leak. It was located in a very hard to reach spot in a crawl space, behind a water heater and was surrounded by insulation, so it was hard to tell how much water was leaking. We were planning to go out of town on Friday afternoon, so were very worried that we'd need to cancel our trip. I found Smart Choice Plumbing through a google search, and called at 10:30 pm Thursday night. Keith picked up immediately and was able to schedule us for the next morning. He quickly diagnosed the problem, gave us an estimate and then fixed the leak by replacing the broken pipe. He was in and out within 2 hours and the final price came in at the low end of his estimate. Keith was extremely curious and professional. He walked me through the repair work he did and gave us advice on contacting our insurance company and water damage restoration contractors. Could not recommend Keith more. read more

On Saturday there was two men working to replace a pipe in my apartment kitchen sink and I had left a copper frying pan on the stovetop that needed to be cleaned! The pan was there when they got here , but when they left the copper pan was gone ! I asked one of the works before he left if he could tell me what happened to the pan ,he said he would check with the other guys and then he went out side ! Then I looked outside and I see them leave with out talking to me ! I have gone through my entire apartment and I have not found the copper pan , this pan cost a lot of money and will cost a lot of money to replace ! We have hired Keith of Smart Choice Plumbing twice in the last year for various projects, and will most definitely hire him again when it's time to remodel the kitchen. He has helped replace a faulty sump pump during a heavy rainstorm. Then he replaced all our ancient galvanized water pipes in our two story house - and a leaky water heater. Last week, Keith installed a new gas range stove, replacing an electric stove, which was a much more complicated project than we all anticipated. But he was able to take care of it quickly and with a little help from an electrician he recommended, while staying close to the original estimate. I agree with all the other reviewers that Keith is very punctual and honest, but more importantly, he is a great at his job - he delivers quality. Keith is very professional and very courteous. Our whole house was clogged one night. He came out bright and early the next morning to locate the clog and create a clean-out line (our house didn't have one yet). Unfortunately, our main line was made of a cardboard-like material that had collapsed, so it had to be replaced. Keith and his crew worked all day even in the rain to dig a trench and replace our main sewer line. They did really great work, and Keith sent me updates via text message the whole time. I highly recommend Smart Choice Plumbing! I can't say more words of praise for Keith (the owner). I was visiting my father's home last Christmas in Saratoga, and Murphy's Law struck, right on Christmas morning! First the toilets backed up, then everything else! It was horrible. Keith came within about an hour of our emergency call to save us. He cleared up the immediate blockage, so everything was functioning again and then advised us that we had big roots in multiple places compromising the external 50+ year-old pipes running from the house to the public system; he also recommended a permanent fix to avoid the problem from happening again. He explained everything very clearly, showing me everything on a camera snaked into the pipes, so that we were well-informed on the situation. We subsequently decided to use him to replace those pipes as a permanent solution, and he not only did a great job at a reasonable price, but he was also very courteous and efficient. He did such an excellent job, that we decided to use him once more to additionally replace the old main pipe under the house that was in danger of failing, before it could cause another more expensive disaster. He also replaced the old water heater and brought the heater piping up to current code. A few other things of note: while at the house, as a courtesy, Keith pointed out several other non-plumbing issues that he noticed (e.g., dying tree, safety issues); he also did a few additional things to help my elderly father out, without charging extra $; finally, my father, who is very particular about things being done right, was highly impressed with Keith's work and his outstanding service and customer-first orientation. When you buy a house "as is," you don't know the history, despite the supposed disclosures. A leak in the kitchen sink was no problem, and was fixed during a minor remodel. But then water started seeping through onto the outside by the kitchen sink, so I asked the company that had replaced the sewer lateral for recommendations. Keith of Smart Choice was at the top of the list. He uncovered a disaster, the worst of which was beneath the house, where rats had long ago taken up residence and commenced destruction; the stench of rat urine, once the area was disturbed, was nauseating. Keith explained all the interrelated elements of the repair, which not only involved replacing all the sewer pipes beneath the house but included stopping up the many entries for rodents, some of which were much higher up on the house itself. Keith hired workers who were as pleasant and efficient as himself. The cost was high because the prior neglect had been so ruinous, but it was a fair cost. Keith's expertise and reliability are matched by his friendly patience and ability to explain the plan so that a layperson could understand. He'll be back soon, because he discovered that a part in the toilet needs replacing (he demonstrated to me). I will, of course, hire him for any future plumbing needs. read more
