What a Smart & Final that ain't in the ghetto? I hadn't been to one since the days of working downtown Oakland. I came here with my boss after our trip to In-n-Out to pick up supplies for our ice cream social at work, they had everything we were looking for and more! I loved their selection of stuff, they even have that Mango/Pinapple juice I had been hunting around forever for! This will definitely be the go-to place to shop at before going to Safeway as prices are low and since its Pleasanton, it ain't so ghetto! read more

Absolutely horrendous checkout. There were 8 people in front of me and 9 people behind me before they finally called for a SECOND cashier! This is at 5:45pm on a Saturday (not late night on a weekday). This is not the first time either. Really bad management! Their slightly lower prices redeemed them 1 star. read more

Smart & Final Extra! - Grocery Near Me - Pleasanton, California

I would have given this place 5 stars because of their awesome prices, cleanliness, and plentiful parking, but I'm afraid I'll have to dock a star. Why? Because despite having a large array of goods, occasionally I have come in here looking for particular items and have failed to find them. For instance, where are the canned black olives??! Still, it's a fantastic place for groceries (and sometimes snacks) because they often have great sales. On a side note, I don't understand why the cashiers scan a barcode at the bottom of each shopping cart, if you choose to use a cart. If it's to track the carts, well.....I can see some issues with that. For instance, what if you put back the cart, then another customer uses it and abandons it in the middle of nowhere, without buying anything from the store? Then the last time the cart was scanned is under your name! Or, if you pay by cash, none of your information is tied to the cart. In that case, are they counting how many shoppers use their shopping carts? If so, it would still result in inaccuracy. What about counting the people who use the cart but don't end up buying anything? Or maybe I've spent too much time thinking about this. TL;DR - check this place out! read more

This is normally my go-to grocery store in the area. I really enjoy coming and picking up some items that I need during the week. Prices are pretty competitive with other major grocery stores, if not even better. Store is always clean and the manager himself is extremely nice and goes out of his way to help you out. I would give this place 5 stars, but some of the employees are extremely rude. Both Arinn and the older blonde lady are by far THE WORST employees I've encountered at any grocery store not just this one. They are always in a terrible mood and can't even smile a hello after I initially having to say hello to them. They've both given me the worst attitudes when asking about items and I've personally seen them talk rudely to other customers as well. I get that working at a grocery store isn't very lucrative but it is a customer service job. If you're always going to be in a bad mood and treat customers bad then I think it's time to find a new job. read more

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! I needed animal cookies by the bulk and found them for what I thought was a great price $3.99 (BECAUSE OF THE PRICE TAG). When I went to check out they rang up for twice as what the price tag stated so I informed the cashier. After walking back to show her she stated "people move things all of the time" which at this point idc, not my problem because I surely didn't move them so I asked to speak to a manager. The cashier next to her butted in and said it's nothing they could do but I waited for the manager. The manager stated he could only honor the price for one but clearly I was by two of the bulk animal cookies. FALSE ADVERTISEMENT AND HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! Honor prices for your employees mistakes! read more

I would give 0 star for this store if I could I was over this morning 03/17/2020 at 6:30 to buy some stuff because I have a business and they always open early to get in get stuff and get out but I saw and employee loading his car with toilet papers almost 3 bag of 6 roles when he was coming Back I asked him if it possible we can get the stuff I need and get out only some veggies and he said no we open at 8 wow I know who buy the all paper towels And toilet papers from smart final EMPLOYEES first no customers read more

My go-to shopping center after work. They have wonderful selection of produce for decent prices including organic and bulk. Meat is always good quality and I like that I can buy a large pack of chicken for around $9. They have bulk everything and this should be anyone's stop before throwing a large party. Much less crowded than Costco and no card needed. Also, I have never found this place to be too crowded which definitely matters to me. read more

Meh, there's not much here that I can't get elsewhere. Are the prices cheaper? It doesn't seem so. What gets 3 stars is the HUGE selection of sugar free Torani syrups! I've never seen such great selection anywhere. I know what I'll be coming here to get. Also good selection of paper and plastic supplies. Sometimes I don't need a costco sized selection of cups and plates, this is a good place to get them. And for the creepy acne ridden begging chick in the parking lot, who followed me to my car when I said no and then inked up my door, piss off. Watch out for these shennanigans if you shop there. read more

Manager Tracy is an amazing human being who was extremely helpful to my family in need. My family of 5 were having dinner in our car and our car wouldn't start to get back home. I entered Smart & Final and the manager Tracy immediately stopped what she was doing to jump start our vehicle. Thank you so much Tracy!!! read more

Bob, the cashier made my morning! His positivity is radiant. Other than Bob, this location is fairly clean. I went really early in the morning and I got everything I needed. read more

This grocery store is very well clean and organize. They are on top of their game with the weekly sales and most of the items are face up. Very well maintain and the cashiers work hard and they are great. read more

It's getting slightly better as this place tries to up its game. Two workers both said they have no idea of the sale price of an item when I asked if this item was it. Place is still run down looking and could us some sprucing up. Went there for ribeye and mango sale and they were both available while the nectarines were gone. Doesn't compare to the new Danville store that just opened which I gave 5 stars. read more

Went there today; amidst the toilet paper apocalypse, all the employees were very pleasant and helpful and they were pretty well-stocked given the situation! -positivity/attitude goes so far, thank you wonderful employees of smart and final! read more

the grand opening of this new smart and final store is today. i was lucky enough to attend the preview night last night and this looks like a really great new store in pleasanton. this isn't your normal smart and final store that offers bulk at great prices but it's all that with so much more. this is one of the new extra stores that will provide so much more to the customer. they will now also sell smaller convenient grocery sizes in all of the popular brands. a great produce selection, frozen foods, dairy, deli, health and beauty and so much more. it's not a place i would shop for my meats but i will be all over the grocery and bulk items. i guess you could say it's a poor mans costco. read more

Smart & Final Extra! - Grocery Near Me - Pleasanton, California

Smart and final is weird for me. It's like clean target's and dirty Wal-Mart's redheaded cousin who you tend to forget about around the holidays and end up buying a gift card for at the last minute. In fact, I knew smart and final existed.... I just had no idea what was inside. Until recently. I have an office in Pleasanton that I am stuck at sometimes and seeing as I don't have a car (and don't want to eat in-and-out every day) I stumbled in here seeking a healthy alternative (and wondering wtf it was). I was pleasantly surprised. Here you will find you standard grocery items such as frozen goods, fruits/veggies, toiletries and ALCOHOL all at reasonable prices; think safeway savings without the need for a card. The store itself is clean, the staff is helpful and the lines are reasonable during non-peak hours. I was able to snag up a week's worth of frozen lunches, apples, bananas and nuts for a hair under $15. So now I can be satisfied and healthy! Smart and final indeed! Definitely a great store that I will absolutely continue to patronize. Tip: they don't sell iPhone 5 chargers. I searched. Don't ask. read more

Smart & Final is a wholesale / retail / restaurant food store. The Pleasanton S&F Extra is a nice store with more selection then most other S&F. Since a lot of counties in the Bay Area Supermarkets not giving out plastic bags, I need to buy a box of T-Shirt bags for my dog. I go through about 3-4 bags every day. The T-Shirt bags are 18.95 per 1000 roughly about 2 cents each. I was in and out in 5 min. Nice store with plenty of parking. read more

Great inexpensive store for essential groceries and party supplies. Was impressed today (Thursday) that they were open at 7AM. Stopped in on my way to work for Chobani yogurt at only 99 cents each and some fresh strawberries and milk. Prices are very competitive overall and the people that work there are very polite and professional. read more

Groovy little store, not quite a warehouse and not quite a grocery store. I shop here when I want items in bulk and would like to avoid the Costco frenzy! I can always count on various items: beverages, paper goods, dessert in large quantities, and of course, meats. This is not everyday shopping for me, but when I need it they are here! Sure beats the CompUSA store that used to be in this same location! read more

On special sale days this is the place to go.vegetables here are so fresh and best prices when compared to safe way and others. Corn here is cool. read more

Bottom of the barrel service. Standing in line for 20 minutes while the 12 year-old cashier struggled to check out the customer in front of me and bumbled through the obsolete "rain check" process that Smart & Final uses was ridiculous. The bagger told her to call for another checker - after the line had gone 20 deep down aisle 5. Wow, this place is a mess. How can you place someone at the check stand who doesn't speak, doesn't smile, is slow and unaware of irritated customers forming a long line behind her? Management fail! Sadly, Lucky's blows these guys away in check-stand service...and Lucky's sucks! Never again. (not) Smart & Final-straw (I'm never stepping foot in your store again) is a lousy grocer who deserves to go the way of the dinosaur. read more

The customer service here is HORRIBLE!!! I shop here pretty regularly to get things for work and there is never anyone around to help... The cashiers barely even say hi and never offer to ask if I am finding everything alright. Their prices aren't even that competetive. I'd rather shop Costco! read more

People that shop here really ARE Smart. I usually run into BevMo assuming it will be cheap alcohol but Smart & Final next door has slightly cheaper stuff. I also like the way the store is laid out -- lots of cart pushing space, you never feel crowded. There is a good variety of snacks, fresh food, frozen goods. I like this place! You'll just have to fight In-N-Out customers for parking haha. read more

My Mom always likes Smart and Final stores. Says that they are like a miniature "Sams Club" without the membership fee. Good prices with well known brands and this location has a quick checkout and ample parking. read more

Best place to shop for candy. Bigger selection than Safeway in my opinion. Produce is super fresh too. I found Watermelons here for 1.99 each once too. read more

This place is clean, they have everything thing that most major grocery stores have including prices that won't empty your wallet. Their produce looked fresh. They have several huge isles full of frozen good. I love the fact that this place is like a mile from Safeway head quarters. Hey Safeway execs try walking this store. You could learn a thing or two... I will shop between Costco and here!! read more

Kinda like a grocery store WalMart. Ample parking, shares the parking lot with In N Out Burgers. Not everything is a deal here, some off-brands and some well-known brands like Claim Jumpers, Foster Farms, Banquet, etc. You have to know your prices. Some of the everyday prices are the same as the sale prices at Safeway or Lucky's. Some of the items here are definitely cheaper at Costco. One thing, they sell a carton of variety Cornnuts (12 pack) for something like $3. Gallon containers of Gatorade, supplies for Italian soda. You can buy certain stuff in bulk here, like candy. Drinks are not priced that well, can get them cheaper on sale at Lucky or Safeway. Hit or miss here. In-store mark-downs (Club Value) are good deals. The produce is questionable, selection very limited. Probably can't go here exclusively for all of your grocery shopping needs, but good to come here every once-in-a-while, to pick up something specific. Nice selection of supplies, plates and food warmers, etc., for those who own a food business. Their "in-house" brand is called First Street. read more

Why only 1 Star? Because after rolling up to the cashier to check out and placing my 12 items on the counter, she asks me "would you like a bag?" I think, well, yeah. Of course. How else will I get this out to my car? So the kid stuffs all 12 itrems (including a melon) into one plastic bag. I tell him I would like to have another bag, and he says something to the cashier as I split up my stuff into two bags. The cashier says, "that will be 10 cents please". I say, 'what?" "10 cents, for the bag". I'm stunned. I had no idea they were charging me for a f**king bag after buying groceries! I say, "send me a bill"...and I walk out. With two bags. What is this world coming to???? read more

It's a small warehouse budget store. While the line can get long sometimes, I don't mind waiting for 5 minutes since the prices are low. Line wait times depend on the time of day, luckily the store is open 16 hours a day, which is surprising and convenient. Candies in bulk are cheaper than Costco. Has many special items in bulk for baking that Costco just doesn't carry and are too expensive elsewhere otherwise. Store is clean and well kept. It takes a while if you want to find some help, but they're accomodating. Although, if it's not on the shelf you're out of luck, however they do take special orders for items that you need, for example, I special ordered 16 1 gallon jugs of Arizona Green Tea and got it 2 days later, just talk to the manager. I usually stop by when going to Costco as it's a store where I can get things Costco doesn't offer and when Costco bulk quantity is too much. read more

Although I went to this new Smart and Final on its grand opening day, I think I will be doing my shopping here. It was CRAZY BUSY but I'm sure the crowds will die down once the novelty and the "newness" has worn off. OK lets start off with the good stuff: Beer....its cheaper here than at Bevmo next door and also at Safeway. A 12 pack of long neck Coronas was only $10.99!!! I haven't seen $10.99 Coronas since 2002!!! Frozen Food Section....OMG. An appetizers lovers paradise! They had every kind of finger food you can think of. Breaded mushroom caps, mozzarella sticks, mini fillet Mignon wrapped in bacon, honey bbq wings, potato skins, meat balls, mini tacos, chimichangas.....you get the picture! Mac and Cheese....for .69 cents! And yes its the blue box....nuff said! Large produce and dairy section with good prices The only thing I don't really care for is the parking in that plaza. The spaces are way too small and its door ding central. Other than that, service was great and the place was clean! I'll definitely be back for my beer and poo poos!!! read more

Yes I might save a buck or two shopping here for certain items but I just don't like the feeling I get walking around. Many isles are stocked with all processed foods. I feel depressed almost thinking if I have to eat these processed foods on a daily basis. Pizzas, hot dogs, hot links, isles and isles of processed foods. Some items are cheap to buy here but it's inconvenient for me to stop here just to buy one or two items. read more

Yup - a nice clean store. Lots of things we normally buy at good prices. Somehow the produce looks pretty good here. Don't expect amazing variety but lots of good frozen foods and bulk items as well. read more

I used to use these guys decades ago for wholesale supplies for trade show markets and they were great but very industrial. Now they pave upgraded to more retailish style and of course the prices are higher - Costco better in many areas. But I still go to them for those items that are hard to get in quantity packages at good prices and still appreciate their service - likely why they have survived in the Costco environment. This local "Extra" location has more fresh produce - good for large consumers and us guys that put the scale aside for a large party or big BBQ. read more

The store itself is ok, but the service can definitely be improved. I come here at least every other week and it seems like there is never anyone around to be of assistance if I can't reach anything. So I basically end up finding one of their ladders in the store and getting the items myself. Getting help out to the car is also touch and go. Depends on who you get at the register; sometimes they offer, most of the time they don't. read more

Always efficient. They have most of the groceries on my list. Toilet paper and paper towels overpriced. Everything else excellent.

This stores customer service is the worst. They don't want to bag your groceries, they don't offer help. I've witnessed Carr attendants argue with customers. If not for the prices I wouldn't come back. DO BETTER. read more
