3 words: Sushi and Sandwiches! We were intrigued and wanted to check out what Gene's fine foods was about and to our surprise they had a great variety of fine foods, local options and old school vintage options. Their sushi is incredible! We saw so many people getting their sushi (which you know it means it's good) and also their sandwiches. We tried both and loved it! Can't wait to go back and try so more items.

Edamame salads, and egg salad

I just had to stop in town to charge my car and I'm so happy I picked the charger in the parking lot of Gene's Fine Foods. I walked in just expecting any other grocery store but I was wildly impressed with the quality and selection of foods. It reminded me of the quality of Nugget Market foods. I got the egg salad for myself and I finished it within one minute it was so good. And the prices were extremely fair and not as expensive as I thought they would be given the quality. And the customer service was phenomenal, I wish I got their names but a kind lady with red hair helped me at the food and the check out girl with long blonde hair were so kind and lovely.

Roast Beef with melted provolone cheese on Dutch crunch ($7.99)

Gene's used be my goto for sandwiches. Since I moved out of the area I haven't been back. Today was the day for a delicious sandwich I was back in town. They were busy as usual. Now my turn and I tell the lady salami and cheddar on Dutch Crunch everything extra mustard. She asks if I want sliced or roll, I replied roll (which I did think was a weird question, since Dutch crunch is a roll). I receive the sandwich and drive back to the office. I open the packaging and no Dutch crunch regular white roll. Not what I wanted and couldn't go back. Besides that issue she put a ton of pepper's, I asked for extra mustard not added. And only 1 piece of cheese. Normally these sandwiches are on point. The best thing about today was it only cost $9.99.

So friendly. Unique selection of fresh produce, meats, cheese and deli items. I love the salad bar and the kids enjoy the olive bar. I loved the setup for Easter goodies, super cute and convenient. Highly recommend this grocery store!

One of favorite grocery store that sells locally sourced produce! Staff are friendly and always ready to help. The place is clean and neat. We especially love their European cookies, goodies & cakes during the holidays! They have a great gourmet, Organic and plant based selection. Their butcher shop is definately the best in the area. The butcher is very knowledgeable & always willing to share his wealth of knowledge! A good wine, cheese section and plenty of freshly baked breads and treats. I love browsing through their stuff, they usually have cute & fun stuff. On the pricier side, but you get quality products! Ample parking available because it is located in a shopping center.

As we move from pandemic to endemic I'm so excited that olive bar is stocked with fresh and plump olives. I purchased a mix of the cerginola olives. I did warm them up with olive oil, garlic and orange peel. Yum. It was a hit.

Today however, solidified my never using this store again. No shopping carts anywhere near the door, not the biggest deal as I only needed a handful of items, but left wondering if they expected customers to scour the parking lots to find one? Inside the store no hand baskets anywhere to be seen, walked down each checkout stand and no baskets there either..!! Walked up to the manager station and saw who appeared to be a manager, she was having an open heated discussion with another employee, never even looked up towards myself or the elderly man in front of me standing in front of the counter. I walked through the store to grab my items in my arms and get out of there. Stopped at the Ice cream aisle And Dryers ice cream was $8 & change which is significantly more than what Safeway is typically selling it for! Skipped that, found small packets of pickles on the end cap, grabbed one, and went to the checkout. I asked the checkout woman, who can only be described as "sullen", where the hand baskets were, she tersely replied "we don't have any".. Then came the pickles, they wouldn't ring up, she hollered at a woman in the self checkout asking about the price, she hadn't even seen them before. My checker asked her to go look up the price, had to ask 4 times, had to describe how to go look up the price. Woman comes back, says there's no price on the display, ( which is already what I said) and she says "just charge $2.. (I'm not even sure that tiny packet is worth $2, but I just want out of there by now.).!! Checker barely looks up at me, as she slides my stuff down the counter, gives a 1/2 hearted "thanks".. So much more letdowns, more employees than customers, not one of them made eye contact, most were milling around looking like they were trying to find something to do.. (Which wasn't asking any customers if they needed help).!! I was relieved to be driving away, drove to San Ramon Safeway and bought all of the other stuff I needed, Dreyers Ice cream was $2 cheaper, I was so much happier at Safeway that I spent $120.00 there.!!

The ones in San Ramon and Livermore don't have the fresh sushi chef counter. Their sushi is pretty good for a quick workday lunch. It is comparable to the Safeway sushi that is near me. They sell their sturdy trustable shopping bag for 99 cent . It is large , well made and with pretty graphic designs. I hate to pay to get a paper bag then it torn out after one use or in the middle of walking to my car ! Trader has top quality of Angus beef ( rib eye , sirloin) , organic chicken , salmon and other seafood. It has a huge fresh fruits and vegetables section .Healthy bakery and snacks . It has healthy ingredients and the prices are lower than Whole food . Many products are imported from Europe. It is clean , organized, carry all the food and non food items for daily use . Excellent service and friendly staffs . What else can you ask for ? I vote this as my number one choice of grocery store.
