After a day of running errands, my brother was giving me a ride home when he says, "I need to get…read moresome flatbread..." I remembered a place on Jackson Street that I had gone to 5 years ago that had a tremendous selection - looked it up on Yelp and it was no longer on Jackson, but was listed in Castro Valley. So we went thought we'd go by and give it a try. Great decision! The "new" store in Castro Valley is much brighter, cleaner, nicer than the old location. I think the old location had more stuff from Eastern Europe, but this new location seems to have a broader selection, with more stuff from Western Europe and the Middle East. The guy behind the counter was very friendly and helpful - always willing to answer questions and even give tips on how to use the products that they sell. And his recommendations have been great - we asked him about which tahini and zaatar to get (they have many different brands/types of each...) and the ones he recommended have been way tastier than any of the brands that you find in most markets. Especially good was his recommendation on lebnah - he said that the brands they carry are all good, but they have some that they package in-house that was special. I tried it - it was less expensive than the other brands, but was the very best lebnah that I have ever tasted! Richer, creamier, with just the right amount of tang. Wonderful stuff! Anyway, Crossroads is a nice, clean, well-lit place with a great selection of unique products, and friendly, knowledgeable sales staff. Well worth a trip!

ALSO - the last time i went he was lowkirkuinely a lil racist. maybe i'm just imagining things..okay guys you're the jury! help me decide. i went with a friend (we r both asian) and he just like looked at us. okay cool maybe we r both baddies idk. we asked for recommendations and samples and he was like teetering between polite and pissed. AND THEN this white couple came in and he was like hey guys!!! lemme help you out!!! big smiles etc. me and my friend were just standing there while this guy spends a long time making convo with this couple, helping them out, etc. when they leave we have to wait another like 5 min for him to even consider our presence and his tone COMPLETELY changes. back to polite/pissed. i decide to buy the small bottle and he looks at me and says something like "wow that's not even going to last you a minute if you buy that" LIKE HELLO I'M BROKE sorry i can't buy a bigger bottle. then he just processes our purchase and doesn't say anything for the rest of the time. i'm still not sure if that was racist or just a bad attitude but either way i'm sending my white friend to shop for me in the future

I remembered it always looking old from outside. Parking lot is still tight in spaces and chaotic around here. Bakery is always the best spot inside. Food court area isn't huge, but with more investments there, it can turn out great too. I like how they put out all the stuff for sale & deals in designated areas now. Things are easier to spot, in case you want to find bargains. The Chinese New Year stuff are out and it doesn't feel expensive now. Red bag of rice crackers gift set large bag was only $8.88 today. Red envelopes are cheaper than the South Bay Area and other 99 Ranch locations. Checkout lines were clean looking too. It feels like they really did listen to customers needs. 5lbs bag of broken rice under $5 is perfect for porridge. Vermicelli $2.29 and Rice noodle pack $2.99. Not bad at all. No lines or crowds before lunchtime on weekdays. Grocery items are considered costly and overpriced at most 99 Ranch stores. I'm glad to see more sales signs/labels here. Good set up. Peaceful walk. Staffs appear happy in what they do here. The Chinese New Year items are worth browsing through during quiet January month.

I have been several times and multiple individuals are bringing in their pet dogs with a "Service Animal" vest they bought online. Service animals are very well behaved, and do not jump around a store or lick items as they go down the aisles. If food safety is going to be an issue, I'd rather not shop here. It's obvious when people are abusing the service‑animal policy--their behavior and the behavior of the animal make it clear. Unfortunately, the law protects them, leaving H‑Mart with limited options, though other shoppers can still call it out. Maybe if Alameda County Health observed the abuse they could fine the owners of the animal. "Under the ADA, staff may only ask two specific questions if it is not obvious that a dog is a service animal: (1) Is the dog a service animal required because of a disability? and (2) What work or task has the dog been trained to perform?. Staff cannot require documentation, ask about the nature of the disability, or require the dog to demonstrate the task."

Updates review after 8 years (!)…read more Danville International Market continues to offer some of the best take-out kabob rice plates. We used to come here frequently before the pandemic, but for some reason stopped coming on the years since. I yearned to come back since our 4yo loves Persian-style rice and the kabobs at Santorini nearby are inconsistent - sometimes juicy and sometimes dry. With Yelp's Grubhub app, you can order for pickup and customize. Its amazing you can choose thigh or breast for chicken. Definitely get the thigh for a juicier chicken! They even let you customize the rice preparation: * The basic saffron rice is the classic white basmati rice with some saffron to give it some yellow color. This is my son's favorite and he can probably devour an entire plate. * Jewel-style adds candied shredded carrots, orange zest and pistachios for added crunch and sweetness. *Zareshk-style used barberries to add some tartness to balance out the sweet, and is another one of our favorites. Definitely will use their Grubhub ordering system going forward. Besides the awesome kabob plate, they also offer several Persian stews and desserts.
