Nice little shop with a decent selection of olive oils and balsamics. It seems like the various olive oil and balsamic vinegar shops in the Bay Area all get their product from the same source as all of the bottles and labels that they use are virtually identical. I bought a jar of nice green olives and they were delicious! So given that the products are comparable, what honestly sets one shop apart from another is the owner and how charismatic he/she is -- to be honest, this shop could improve in that aspect. The shop is located near plenty of fun antique shops to browse in the same street and it's a lovely area overall!

If you're looking for a reliable great pizza, this place delivers. (Figuratively speaking; they may not do actual deliveries, I ate there in person.) The place has an old-timey Wild West theme that fits the character of historic Niles perfectly. Pizzas are delivered hot and the crust has a delicious flavor with good balance - I always finish off the entire slice, no pizza bones left by me. They are very generous with the toppings and it often feels like I'm getting more pepperoni or other toppings than seems normal - it's always a bounty. Pictured is their chuck wagon pizza, their combination pizza. It was positively piled with toppings! They sell pizza by the slice, and every time we've ordered them we've gotten mini personal pizzas instead - no complaints there! Overall a fun a relaxing place for delicious pizza in a quaint historic downtown that many people don't realize is there. It's almost like finding a secret town. I'll keep coming back to Niles - and to Bronco Billy's.

This farmer's market was only one market aisle long. Yes, that's how short it was to explore all vendors. Service was based on each vendor. I only go there for Harina Baked Goods for their Filipino pastries and Ube Haupia pie (must order), based in Livermore, and Jazzpresso's lattes. There was a long line at Starter Bakery, where you had to decide which pastry and bread to order since they don't have labels. The pastries were too sweet for my Asian taste, though. Since parking is usually full on the side of the stalls, I managed to find one behind the fence, which was a bit of a rocky drive and had a pothole in the middle. It was a bit small to enter and exit. Another option is to park across the train station, where you have to walk for a bit. Remember to bring your own bag when shopping for takeout. I recommend walking to the produce end first, then end at Starter Bakery to compare the prices and decide which is worth purchasing.

Well, how about the fact that Fabrique Délices (a U.S. subsidiary of SAPAR) is based in the East Bay and uses local producers, like Niman Ranch, for many of its offerings? And they sell their wares at a wide variety of farmers' markets in the region? When you put this all together, it makes FD an outstanding source of delicious meat products sure to amp up the flavor in your life and bring out your inner carnivore. After passing by their stand at the San Mateo farmers' market for many months, we were finally lured into trying Fabrique Délices at the Saturday market in Half Moon Bay. Maybe it was the sunny skies and cool breezes, maybe it was the friendly salesperson, maybe it was the light crowds that morning. Whatever the reason, we stopped and sampled. Superb! There was so much to choose, but we settled on a French dry salami (saucisson sec, $11) bursting with rich tastes of pork, fresh garlic, cracked pepper, and sea salt. Sliced thin and served as an antipasto platter with even more cracked pepper and some cornichons, it is out of this world. It makes a great weekend lunch or light evening meal with fresh radishes, tomatoes, cucumbers, mixed greens, and a glass of wine or beer. My first encounter with FD will definitely not be the last, as their catalog of offerings is simply too good to pass up. Next on my "wish list": their smoked duck breast, the chorizo d'España, the Rosette de Lyon, and their Merguez lamb + beef sausages. I am also tempted by their natural pâtés and the sausages made with game (rabbit, wild boar, venison). All in moderation, and all in due time. If you eat meat sparingly, as I do, you want these indulgences to be memorable. The French chacuterie tradition practiced by FD may well be your ticket to bliss.

Our party of 4 really enjoyed the food (particularly the calamari, duck, and ribeye), drinks, and service. The vibe was on the upscale side but not stuffy, a bit format but still warm. Papillon's service was excellent - from the time of my reservations to the end of our evening. We requested a private room and boy were we impressed when we got to the venue! Without going into too much detail, because there's so much I can write about, let me just say that if you are looking for a place that is easy to get to, has ample parking, nostalgic and warm ambiance, friendly and professional service, classic and signature drink menu, and balanced food offering that are as well-plated as they are tasty, Papillon is the place!
