The artichoke bread which is made locally is DELICIOUS and is only available on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. There were other varieties which I'll probably go back to try. ALSO - the last time i went he was lowkirkuinely a lil racist. maybe i'm just imagining things..okay guys you're the jury! help me decide. i went with a friend (we r both asian) and he just like looked at us. okay cool maybe we r both baddies idk. we asked for recommendations and samples and he was like teetering between polite and pissed. AND THEN this white couple came in and he was like hey guys!!! lemme help you out!!! big smiles etc. me and my friend were just standing there while this guy spends a long time making convo with this couple, helping them out, etc. when they leave we have to wait another like 5 min for him to even consider our presence and his tone COMPLETELY changes. back to polite/pissed. i decide to buy the small bottle and he looks at me and says something like "wow that's not even going to last you a minute if you buy that" LIKE HELLO I'M BROKE sorry i can't buy a bigger bottle. then he just processes our purchase and doesn't say anything for the rest of the time. i'm still not sure if that was racist or just a bad attitude but either way i'm sending my white friend to shop for me in the future

I remembered a place on Jackson Street that I had gone to 5 years ago that had a tremendous selection - looked it up on Yelp and it was no longer on Jackson, but was listed in Castro Valley. So we went thought we'd go by and give it a try. Great decision! The "new" store in Castro Valley is much brighter, cleaner, nicer than the old location. I think the old location had more stuff from Eastern Europe, but this new location seems to have a broader selection, with more stuff from Western Europe and the Middle East. The guy behind the counter was very friendly and helpful - always willing to answer questions and even give tips on how to use the products that they sell. And his recommendations have been great - we asked him about which tahini and zaatar to get (they have many different brands/types of each...) and the ones he recommended have been way tastier than any of the brands that you find in most markets. Especially good was his recommendation on lebnah - he said that the brands they carry are all good, but they have some that they package in-house that was special. I tried it - it was less expensive than the other brands, but was the very best lebnah that I have ever tasted! Richer, creamier, with just the right amount of tang. Wonderful stuff! Anyway, Crossroads is a nice, clean, well-lit place with a great selection of unique products, and friendly, knowledgeable sales staff. Well worth a trip!

This market is focused on a lot of middle eastern items. So if you're ever in the need for spices, you can find them here like fenugreek, sumak, etc. They also had a lot of different teas, vegetables, fruit, a butcher in the back and bakery/pastry items in the front. I did get my sumak and decided to try out a different brand. Little did I know it was brand that makes sumak here in Fremont. Always good to support a local business. I didn't really take a good look at their produce nor anything much more than what I wanted which was to get sumak so I can't comment to the quality of that. Parking is shared by the kabob place so it's small like 2 spaces. You can always park on the street and walk inside. I'm sure the folks next door utilize this market for their meats and spices. Useful, if you ask me! They accept credit card though I ended up paying in cash. Small market that's convenient if you're needing specific middle eastern items and well if you're next door picking up food, it's not a bad time to just stop by to take a peek.

He stated that it was "the law" that a Mexican passport could not be used as ID. I have shopped at this store for years and have never encountered any issues using this form of identification. When Christopher saw that my ID was a Mexican passport, his reaction appeared noticeably negative, which made me feel that his refusal may have been racially motivated. I chose not to escalate the situation at the register and asked him to remove the items. I then requested to speak with the manager on duty, an older Asian woman. I asked whether rejecting a Mexican passport was store policy. She clearly confirmed that a Mexican passport is an international form of identification and is valid. When I explained that I felt the cashier's behavior was discriminatory, she appeared to acknowledge my concern. She completed my transaction, and I reminded Christopher of the correct policy. His demeanor throughout the interaction remained rude and disrespectful. I have never experienced racism before, and this incident was unacceptable. I expect employees to know store policies and to treat customers respectfully. I plan to contact the store manager and corporate regarding this matter. Christopher also refused to provide Dave Hines' email, claiming he was not allowed to give it out. As a manager myself, I find this behavior unprofessional and unethical. Christopher demonstrated discriminatory behavior and poor customer service, and I hope appropriate action is taken.
