Safeway has always been an awesome place to shop. The store is also clean, well-organized, and easy to move around as you navigate shopping for groceries. There's a nice variety of goods, from everyday staples to grab-and-go snacks and fresh items, and the shelves are pretty well stocked. One trip easily gets everything we need, without having to search around too much. But, what's really remarkable is how incredibly nice the workers are. They'friendly, patient and utterly helpful no matter if their helping to find something we are seeking or working the check out line. You never feel like you are bothering them, and they always lend a helping hand happily. Customer service like that goes a long way. I placed an online grocery orded pickup on 6/25. However, one of the items couldn't be filled due to being at a stock. Disappointing but it happens. I picked up the rest of my order. The next morning, I noticed that my total had not changed.And I was still being charged for the pizza even though it was unavailable, and I didn't pick it up. I had received no email or notice from the app saying they would refund the pizza. So I called at 5am the next morning and there was no manager on site until 7am. So I went down in person to inquire with a manager about how the refund process works on an online pickup order when an item can't be fulfilled. I talked to Dane and he referred me to Lorenzo, who was the online grocery pickup order lead. I was explaining to him how I didn't get any notice of a.Refund being sent at all and with any other place.When you do online pickups, and they can't fulfill part of your order, they automatically start a refund process or notify you. Apparently the safeway app does not. I wanted to make sure I wasn't going to be charged for it. I told him it sucks that I had to waste my gas and my time to come down here to find this out. And at this point lorenzo told me "well, you should have called". I said I did call at 5am and there was no manager here.And they told me nobody would be here until seven am. And at this point, his attitude changed, and Lorenzo started lecturing me on everything that I should have done that I already did, which is not how you handle talking to a customer. I have worked in customer service for twenty four years and if I talked to my customer like this, my boss would write me up and fire me within two minutes flat. He also told me "well, you should have called later." I told him well you know how long it took to get any department to answer the phone when I did call? About five minutes and calling back four times and talking to different departments. I did not appreciate his attitude and the gall to tell me and lecture me what I should be doing during my day. The proper response would have been "I Apologize. I'm sorry that the app didn't let you know, but yes, it will refund in a few days". But he had to be unprofessional and get an attitude and get in my business, which is not his job and not how he should be acting at his job with customers. A terrible employee that clearly needs retraining on how to interact with customers. I work 2 jobs and I work really hard.I do not need a Lead at Safeway telling me what to do in my life or how to do it. That's none of your business. read more

On 11/22/2025, I visited this location as a long-time Fremont resident and frequent customer. I was assisted by a cashier named Christopher, who refused to accept my valid Mexican passport as identification for an alcohol purchase. He stated that it was "the law" that a Mexican passport could not be used as ID. I have shopped at this store for years and have never encountered any issues using this form of identification. When Christopher saw that my ID was a Mexican passport, his reaction appeared noticeably negative, which made me feel that his refusal may have been racially motivated. I chose not to escalate the situation at the register and asked him to remove the items. I then requested to speak with the manager on duty, an older Asian woman. I asked whether rejecting a Mexican passport was store policy. She clearly confirmed that a Mexican passport is an international form of identification and is valid. When I explained that I felt the cashier's behavior was discriminatory, she appeared to acknowledge my concern. She completed my transaction, and I reminded Christopher of the correct policy. His demeanor throughout the interaction remained rude and disrespectful. I have never experienced racism before, and this incident was unacceptable. I expect employees to know store policies and to treat customers respectfully. I plan to contact the store manager and corporate regarding this matter. Christopher also refused to provide Dave Hines' email, claiming he was not allowed to give it out. As a manager myself, I find this behavior unprofessional and unethical. Christopher demonstrated discriminatory behavior and poor customer service, and I hope appropriate action is taken. read more

Just read all these one-star, recent reviews and feel better I'm not the only one that thinks shopping here is weird. When I was shopping there recently a young girl employee was just wandering around the aisles. When I checked out the cashier asked me if I needed help out to my car. I answered, no I don't need any help out to the car or unloading. Instead they sent that girl who ran up to me at the exit door and stayed with me chit-chating all the way and asking me many questions. As I was trying to separate the frozen food into the cold boxes in the car, she kept it up. I nicely said to her, you know, you don't HAVE to make small talk...Did someone tell you to do that? She said yes, a manager. It all seemed unusual. Aside from all this, I bought the packaged cut green salad that is in a cooler, and at home learned you have to do more than check the expiration date. The greens inside had brown discoloring on them. You have to try to look at them through the cellophane to see if they look fresh and green before you buy them. Also, this is the only Safeway where I have seen panhandlers at the front entrance. At the next Safeway I went to, in two weeks, 25 miles away and in a different county, that same girl was wandering out toward me in the parking lot as I walked to the entrance of the store. I ignored her. Then at checkout she was now actually doing something this time, bagging, but still asked me a useless question. Two months later I went back to this same Fremont store and had a lot of bags, some heavy, of food in my cart. I had parked in the Safeway parking lot, close to the store, with many shopping carts left out farther out from where I parked. Someone set the brakes on my cart with wi-fi before I got even near to the car, and the cart cannot be moved when they do that. Luckily my husband was there to come and ferry the bags to the car, as I don't walk well. Then I dragged the cart to a place more out of the parking lot roadway. UPDATE: 10/31/2024 - Be sure to check your USE BY/FREEZE BY and EXPIRATION DATES This location should be on probation or state that the items in the weekly flyer may only be available if staff is available to stock store shelves. I don't trust the prepared food anymore. Often there are sales tags left behind and if you don't read carefully, you'll be surprised at checkout. The front door is inconsistently closed between 5:30 and 6:00 pm daily due to theft. When it comes to merchandise pricing, a brand in the "chicken" section rings up incorrectly 100% of the time when on sale. So watch it. Unless I'm pressed for time, I'll get in the car and drive to Whole Foods. The prices are often lower and the front door is always open. read more

Every time I go into this particular Safeway it's like a nightmare dream sequence that I cannot escape for an hour. I avoided Safeway for years because they never have enough cashiers but the self-help counters have alleviated a bit of that, sometimes... but not really. My 4-Year-Old likes the roasted chicken legs here for some reason and asks me to go specifically for those. The last time I went in here they accidentally charged me for $150 gift card that the person before me couldn't pay for. It was an honest mistake because the register looked like it was a canceled transaction until I paid and my $6 charge for chicken legs was now $156. If you've ever accidentally bought a gift card, you know how hard it is for them to reverse that transaction. The manager asked me if it was my gift card in the weirdest tone where I'm like dude I'm not going to take a gift card just because you talk to me like that. Someone with people pleasing might just take the card and go. Then she awkwardly berated the cashier in front of me which I had to stand there and listen to. Then it took an eternity to do the actual transaction reversal. She gave me a $5 gift card that I've had in my wallet for a couple months because I was avoiding ever going in there again. Once again my 4-year-old asked for the chicken legs and I said okay. We initially passed up the deli counter because of the sheer amount of people and it looked like the roasted chicken legs were still being cooked. We went to get the other items we needed. When we came back around half an hour later and the line looked a bit better. One to two people worked. It's lunch. Why? I say one to two because one of them was making sandwiches or something the entire time I was standing there. Some of the people left with annoyed looks because the wait was atrocious. Maybe about 20 minutes later I was able to ask for the roasted chicken legs but they were out and they said it would take more 45 minutes. I ended up getting some barbecue chicken legs that she thought were okay but it was really a big waste of my time. Then I get to the checkout and unfortunately I bought more than 10 other items so I had to wait in line. The person in front of me couldn't figure out how to use their EBT card and the cashier was not very helpful. The cashier proceeded to get on a personal call talking about how her dad will be at some party or something and asking who else will be there. Still waiting. EBT card still isn't going through. My kid is literally like hanging out all over the dirty conveyor belt and licking things because she's bored.... at this point I'm too invested and I have no more time until the kids get out of school... trapped... Ordered a tres leches cake a day in advance for my brother-in-law's birthday and the whole process was awful. When we went to pick up the cake, the lady at the bakery said "give me 20 mins to finish the cake". She went to the back and slapped on some frosting and hideous decorations and handed the cake to us for free. I've never seen an uglier cake in my life. Plastic balloons, random snowflakes, ugly dome shaped cake? I thought this has to be a gag, the lady can't be serious. But she was. This cake was for our 36 year old brother-in-law and it looked like a clown cake. This cake was not only so ugly, but also tasted disgusting. Nothing about it was tres leches. The cake was crumbling and flavorless and the frosting was so nasty. My sister-in-law accepted the free cake, assuming it might taste better than it looks, but we were wrong! There was a repairman checking the slicers. He told her she could use them as he has not serviced them yet. She then asks me to come back in 30 minutes because the slicers don't work. There was something wrong with their system so after an hour of uncertainty, the Dasher arrived to the store to learn that they cannot take the order. Alas, the order was cancelled. After work I happened to be in the area, so I swing by to pick up my smoked turkey sandwich myself. Luckily, it wasn't as busy as anticipated. The older lady in the deli was very kind and patient preparing my sandwich. She will personalize the way you like eg if you want the spread on both sides, if you want the sandwich cut in half, etc. It was delicious! read more

Went here to get flowers for Valentines. Line was long. Picked up a dozen roses and baby breathe. Made purchase and was headed out. Looked at the receipt and it was 83 and some change. There was a 43.00 charge that I didn't purchase. Didn't wait in line, I cut to the front and told the cashier they messed up. They told me to goto customer service. Went to customer service and got the refund. It has been three days, and the refund hasn't gone through. I used my Citibank and it notifies me when I make a purchase or get a refund. Didn't get notified for refund. Went to Safeway yesterday and spoke with manager. He told me refunds take a little longer. I'm still passed. I live out of town and needed to pick up some groceries for our daughter that just had a baby. I needed to use the restroom. I asked more than one person for help to get the code to open the restroom. After five minute and the need to use the restroom, we left. We left everything we were going to purchase and go to another store where I could use the restroom and purchase what we needed. Customer service stinks the store was unorganized and understaffed. You need to address your customer's needs. You might have some other problems with homeless, or lack of help to clean the restroom, deal with it and fix your problem. My issues are with how the baggers bag your groceries, just randomly bagged and I've ended up with broken, crushed and ruined items on several visits, and there is seemingly never any carts. It's generally fine. But when I had to use the bathroom I was surprised to see keypads on both bathroom doors. I had to search for an employee and at the self service station there was nobody. I had to wait like 20 min before someone showed up. They said they will call for someone to let me in. Ok fine. I walked to the bathroom on the other side of the store. An employee finally showed up with a customer in tow. Obviously this employee was not called in, the customer needed to go as well. Ok whatever. This employee knocked on the door, I assume to make sure nobody else in there. She let the guy in. I gestured to her I needed to use the other bathroom. She knocked on that door and let me in. When I entered the room, there was no lock on the door. Sure enough when I started doing my business, someone else walked in on me. Not cool. Not everybody can hear knocks and Fremont has a large deaf community and I know many deaf persons who shop there. What if I was a woman. A survivor of sexual assault? I like this Safeway , it's clean great location. The lovely lady named Trang in the deli was very kind and helpful she went above and beyond for me. When I was waiting to be help she was the ONLY one that noticed me. She was asked to do something by her coworker and she replied, yes! After I help this customer!! I. My book she displayed superior customer service and to me that means a lot!! Most importantly she deserves a raise!!! I give the deli 5 stars!! Last night I needed to shop for groceries and I was exhausted after a long day at work. I stopped into the meat department to grab my new favorite, the tuna poke. I was greeted by the NICEST young man! Actually, everyone in that section has always been nice, but this young gentleman made my evening . Unfortunately I did not catch his name, but if he reads this he'll know it's him because he said he puts mayonnaise in his poke. I really appreciated his happy demeanor and he's a true asset to Safeway! Secondly, my checker was also a sweet lady. We chatted about goofy stuff, and she was excited to be making cookies for her granddaughter the next day. I wish I had caught her name, but she was a breath of fresh air, too. It's a pity not all Safeway's are created equal. The one closest to my house is my ultimate last resort supermarket of any kind. I can go years before going to that one (Mission Blvd/Warm Springs) This Fremont Hub location is so much better run. The employees at the check out have always been very friendly and even during the pandemic they are kind a courteous. The lines here are not horrendously long like at the Warm Springs one since they generally have multiple lanes open for check out. In my most recent visit (sorry... it was Christmas Eve) I was looking for lasagna noodles. Apparently everyone else had the same grand idea so the shelves were picked empty. The employee I ended up asking for help went to great lengths to try and find me a package. Although she was unsuccessful, it made me happy she was so enthusiastic and helpful, and during such a busy time in the store. I wish customer service like this was easier to come by these days in the large super markets. Over the years, this location has always provided wonderful service, pre-covid and during covid. It is decently stocked and hasn't disappointed often when I have to stop in for a one-off purchase. read more

What a cluster F. Ordered some essentials almost a week back. Got an email saying it'll be ready on a specific day and time. Not much else in terms of information/details...just go to the 'drive up and go' spot and call the number you see there. Got there and drove around the store a few rounds. Didn't see any marked area for such a service. No signs either (except one that is advertising that the shitty service exists...but still no details). So I park in front and call the general store number and go through 10 minutes of phone loops before finally one of the ring tones connects with a live person. Live person proceeds to tell me that there are thousands of people in the queue and therefore they have to email you when your stuff is ready. But then also tells me the system is severely broken and is an absolute mess. Broken system aside, no where was a 2nd confirmation email ever mentioned as part of the process here. Then they put me on hold saying they'll check if my order is ready anyway. After 10 minutes they hung up on me. Now quite upset, I try to call thru the system loop again to hopefully get another warm body on the other end. Nope. No dice. They just stopped picking up the phone. There isn't a place to cancel this order in the system or by email. Guess if they ever do act on this order and charge my card, I'll just refute it. I'm not a fan of imaginary groceries. Never again, Safeway. Times like this are when you need to step up and build (or maintain) customer loyalty. Those that don't will disappear after we get thru this mess of a situation. These are unprecedented times, i get that...things are chaotic. Totally understand that. I've left good reviews on grocery stores before, Safeway where I used to live. It might just be the busy season, but an amount chunk of the sales signs on items are outdated. By like a month. November 16th is too long ago to be acceptable. There were lots of clearance items completely sold out that were still displayed. Or misleading labels. For example: mix and match chips, buy 4 for $1.99 each. Only two bags counted and the rest were full price. And I used my safeway number, so *shrug*. Like, I'm not new to grocery stores. I know the labels aren't always correct, and I'm used to making sure mix and match deals are correct. But it's pretty annoying to get billed the wrong thing, and to have to double check every label to see if the price is actually up to date or not. It wasn't even just one or two items, it was a lot of stuff in my cart bc budgeting you know? So I bought my stuff first, got hit with the unexpected costs, and then had to double check for roomie. Like at least I get paid well enough it could slide. I would be even more annoyed and embarrassed to ask for refund if I was counting down to cents like my roomie.ml I didnt check super carefully at the register but I wish I did. I got too afraid of asking for assistance bc of my anxiety which I know is pathetic but yeah. The staff at checkout were great.
