Because you can't get freshly baked Middle Eastern / Levantine pastries just anywhere in the Bay! If you've been to a Yemeni coffeeshop in the Bay Area, especially if it's in the East Bay, you might have seen this bakery's fatayer and manakeesh sold there since they supply a bunch of the coffeeshops. They bake all day and you can stop by at any given time and find freshly made pastries sitting on the table by the bakery section. In terms of selection, they generally have different types of fatayer (spinach, beef, chicken, cheese, more recently potato), manakeesh, lahm bi ajeen (soft flatbreads with a meat and tomato mixture on top), and chicken musakhan rolls. They don't always have every item available but they'll let you know what's in the oven. The pastries are 6 for $15 currently. They freeze well too. I've been here often and the customer service has always been friendly.

We really enjoyed the cheese, meat was decent, and spinach was good as well. As soon as you walk into the store, you smell the fatayer which was very nice. The service was okay- I was expecting a hospitable/friendly service that I normally experienced from Arab markets. I wish they sold manaeesh or sfeeha but when I asked they said they don't make them.

I couldn't tell what it was and there was a few that fell in the bag so I took it back today and the punjabi guy behind the counter acted like a damn FBI agent trying to prove that it didn't happen at the store and he was willing to go back and roll back the cameras to see if it was ripped before I bought it. I'm in the store all the time because it's convenient right up the street from my house. So he calls the owner and he's talking to her is telling her to roll the cameras and I was like I can't sit here and wait I gotta go can't you just do it even exchange. He said no we cannot you have to wait. So I told him get the owner on the phone and I told her what happened. She started telling me how they have pest control come out there all the time and I said I'm not concerned about that I just wanna exchange the Puja and leave. And she finally breathed in and said all right fine go ahead. You run a story you can send the bhuja back I'm a consumer. The situation was not that serious but they made it into a big deal. I do like the store and I go there a lot but the attitude of the guy behind the counter just had to go. He's very disrespectful. He never says hi never smiles and he's always talking to someone on the damn phone. No professionalism or common courtesy at all. He needs to realize in this country if you want people to be returning customers you have to be polite. He was actually gonna roll back the cameras to see if the punctures existed before I bought it. Another man was in there and he told me in the parking lot these guys are too much. He said sorry you had to go through that. I feel like I never want to go back there but I do like the store and they do keep it well stocked. I'm on the fence about this one.

The thin see-through plastic-looking curtain at the entrance door is extremely dirty and filthy. This alone is the major deterrent for me. Then I entered the store and it was extremely dark at 2:00 pm. There was only one light on at the butcher area. The guy at the counter ignored me and didn't even bother to say hi or if I need any help, which I really did. I was looking for some middle eastern style dill pickles. I had to go through all the isles in the darkness to find the pickle isles. There was no dill pickles! Only a few pickled vegetable jars from the manufacturers that I never shopped before. Their condiment options are very limited and is not like Middle Eastern, Persian, or Arab markets where you find a big selection of a variety of brands for one single item. I hope they get to adopt better hygiene practices, learn to say hi to the customers, and bring more variety of products. I think most of positive reviews are from their family and friends. I agree with the negative reviews.

They sell everything from samosas to curries to chutneys. You can find them at Nugget Market, United Market, and some other big grocery chains (in the Asian food section). For just $4 you can get their Tikka Masala, their Korma, and Vindaloo sauces to prepare at home. My favorite is the Tikka Masala curry. All you need is a pound of chicken or protein of your choice (cut up into little pieces), a cup of water, and a 1/2 cup of whipping cream. Throw it all into a sauce pan and let it simmer. And in 15 minutes, you'll have a spicy meal for 4 - 5 people. It's really that simple. Serve it with some basmati rice (which you can buy for cheap in the store), and maybe a little garlic naan (which you can heat up in the oven), and you're all set. The flavors and aroma are exactly the same as you'd find at your favorite Indian place. Believe me, you'll be licking your plate clean, and all your friends will think you made this dish from scratch. And best of all, there's very little clean-up since you're cooking everything in one pan. I see that Sukhi also sells frozen version of their dishes that you can microwave at home, but I think their home chef collection of sauces are the better way to go. This ain't no TV dinner; this is a legit Indian meal made with a terrific (and gluten-free) curry paste and chicken. FYI, if you decide to go with the samosas (which you can find in your store's frozen foods section), I would recommend cooking them in the oven instead of microwave it for maximum crunch/flavor. And if you're on the hunt for a quick lunch, I'd stock up on their frozen Indian burritos (my favorite is their Chicken Tikka Masala). They only cost about $3.50 and they only take a few minutes to nuke. It's a satisfying lunch or dinner, and a spicy alternative to your regular frozen burrito. As you can tell, I'm a huge sucker for Sukhi. If you like spice and all things nice, make sure to add their curries and burritos to your shopping list.
