This morning I visited the Starbucks inside this Safeway on Santa Rita Road. Lots of parking at the front entrance . The store has many cute displays for their sections ( wine , cheese , honey and cookies, donuts , sumner soft drinks , etc ) The lady is the Starbucks was super helpful and nice . She took my order and prepared the cheese , sausage breakfast muffin super fast . The food was very fresh and super delicious, hot in temperature. Since I have already drank my coffee , she offered to make me a cup of ice water . There were 3 chairs for customers to sit and eat or wait while they made your order . These were the only chairs they had within the whole store . But if you went outside, there were several metal picnic tables and chairs to choose . May he because it was for Covin , otherwise I would rather they have some tables indoor . I like the cooked food in the deli sections ( wings , hotdogs, etc ) and food becomes cold faster outside , especially in the winter . There were a wide selection of Starbucks cups for sale , some were California theme , even has one with Standford university logo! It was fun to browse and shop in this Safeway . read more

I had a very disappointing experience at the garden section of Safeway. The lady working there was very rude and wrapped the flowers carelessly, leaving them in poor condition. She also did not include any flower food with the bouquet. I expected much better customer service and care for the flowers. read more

Evidently, an employee named John at the store at 6790 Bernal ave has an inner monologue issue when it comes to service dogs. This is the second time I've been in the store and he's felt the need to comment on my Service dog. I repeatedly show him my service dog ID and registration yet he feels it necessary to complain and or berate me as a customer a paying customer at that every time I come in the store. I don't really feel that I need to explain myself or my service animal. This is a service animal not an emotional service dog and every time he feels the need to say something the next time he says something it might not go well for him legally I'm allowed through the ADA to take my service dog anywhere I please That's a public place. I suggest Safeway management critique this employee and let him know that his unwelcome comments are probably gonna get him into trouble in the future . Feel free to contact me you can reply to this yelp for details and proof that my dog is a service animal not an emotional pet. Really a bad look for Safeway management. This is an older Safeway that I've been coming to shop at since 2001. Several associates are still working here since I've been coming here. On a day like today (4th of July), I can come here and pick up everything I need to prepare a meal such tacos, rice and beans. Although they have self service check out now, I still prefer to have an associate check me out. For some reason, I never feel like I have wait very long in line at this store. Yay! read more

I came here to buy plants (yes plants at Safeway first, food second!) and they lady watering the plants outside saw me looking at the succulents and she asked if I had questions before she went back inside. I thought that was very courteous of her to ask me if I needed help! In terms of the selection inside I only grabbed a few sporadic items while I was already there and already I could tell their meat and sausage sections are a lot bigger than the store in Dublin. I had a bit of trouble finding the ziploc and parchment paper aisle tbh I assumed it would be with the baking or near the aisles with the plates but it was actually next to the snack section. Overall I went to self check out and the machines looked newer and the attendant was helpful to other patrons. I would come again if I was in the area. read more

Terrible experience with my online order for this store. To be fair it shouldn't reflect on the actual store, just the online service for this store. I placed an online order for of the same item. It was processed and I was told to pickup up. Unfortunately it also said they replaced all items with another product. I tried many times to try to identify what the replacement was but kept coming up with a blank page. The next day (today) I addressed it again and as able to click on the Decline tab. The system said it was having difficulty and produced a final invoice/bill for the order I didn't want. I then HAD to call the 800 # to get my refund. what a hassle and the lady working it out for me cam back to tell me I would get a refund for the wrong amount(less of course). I finally got her to get it right. WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU GUYS????? read more

When I was deciding which Safeway in Pleasanton to go to I decided to go to Santa Rita, big mistake the item I want was not on the shelf. I asked the guy in behind the counter if they would stock more. He replied yeah maybe later I am the only one here. First he didn't want to look up to me when I was talking to him, then he didn't want to be bothered with helping me. I will never return to this store. I then went to Bernal Safeway where the shelves were stocked and they were polite answering my questions. So don't waste your time going to a store that doesn't care about the customer. read more

Clean Safeway and the isles are always tidy and organized. I also like how this Safeway is not on a big boulevard so it's a bit quieter than the one on Dublin Boulevard. And also because of that, I feel like this Safeway is also more stocked than the other, again maybe because it's typically less busy. Parking is always easy and plenty, and it's located within the same plaza as other stores such as Walgreens. I bought two bags of O Organics cookies (mini chocolate chips & animal cookies), just to try them, and they were delicious. The animal cookies were so crisp and the vanilla flavor really came through. They tasted really clean and sweet. I'm a fan. The mini chocolate chips were great too. They were perfectly bite sized, a little light and airy, yet the flavor was bursting. They made really great snack options. read more

The Safeway service deli legitimately is the worst customer service experience of my life. Why do I keep going back? I dunno. I've had beef with this department for like 15 years now. But I still love their sandwiches!! This one is close to work. While there are a few ladies behind the counter who can make a sandwich in about two minutes... there are definitely two ladies in particular who send me cringing to the point where I want to go full Karen and tell them to go faster. I hate how that makes me feel but like, I'm not the only person who feels that way. Two different people, on two different occasions have turned around in line and told me that this is the slowest sandwich experience of their lives. One lady said she only had 30 minutes for lunch... And she even told the slow-moving woman behind the counter that she had 30 minutes. And she stopped making her sandwich to tell her that her employer should give her a longer lunch break. These two employees will grab the bread. Grab one ingredient at a time. Ask you what you want one it. Then ask you if you want each ingredient as they go along. One man said he wanted everything on the sandwich. And the lady would ask him every time she went to go put a new ingredient on the sandwich if he wanted it... and stopped what she was doing to ask him... All while moving so slowly. One lady asked if I wanted lettuce and tomato on my sandwich and I said yes, and red onion and cucumber. Then she spoke over me and said I was giving her too much information and she wouldn't remember it. I don't know what I want to be done. Can anything be done? Make sure these ladies are never on sandwich duty again during the lunch hour? Like seriously, PLEASE have them do something else. I'm begging you. They are so bad at their job. It makes me want to cry. Please give them a different task. I'm not going to go back for a while because it's so upsetting how slow they are. If there is someone in line in front of me, I just leave. But now I go to sandwich places that are a lot faster because I can't deal with this anymore. read more

Ok my first time of my experience with this Safeway is 10/90 10% being good on my chicken order Which when that order was placed it was great. But, 90% Bad..... When I called to place the order over the phone on Wednesday, February 26th for my granddaughter 9th birthday cupcake cake to be pick up on Saturday, March 1st at 1:00pm. I was told it will take 30 cupcakes to make up the number 9 I said ok that's fine. Then the lady said do I want half chocolate and half vanilla I said yes and two shades of blue frosting and can you write Happy Birthday with my granddaughter name on the bottom I spelled out her name letter by letter and now here's the issue I have here. First, I didn't get my half chocolate half vanilla. All were vanilla. Second, they didn't even write my granddaughter name on there. Very poorly run Safeway. I've been to many over the years and this one is probably the the worst. I made a number of pick up orders the last few weeks. The first one was ok despite being late and incomplete. The second time they lost my order and couldn't track it down even though the order online said it was processed. I called in and asked but they didn't have it and said that it couldn't be found. I said that is fine and forgot about it and didn't care because of the current situation. Then they called me with the order 3 days later and it was incomplete and I already made other arrangements for groceries. I said just cancel it. There are 2 Safeways in Pleasanton - Bernal and Santa Rita. This is for the Bernal location. Safeways used to offer super nice hospitality - that's gone now. It's hit or miss. Most are nice. The pharmacy folks are very nice. But I went two days in a row to pick up a handful of items between 12 and 2 in the afternoon on a weekday. Only two checkers open and NO EXPRESS LANE. I guess they don't believe in them anymore. Each time I had about 6 items but I had alcohol so the self checkout wasn't an option. Each time I ended up behind VERY FULL CARTS. (Remember the days when people would let you go ahead if you only had a few items? Those days are gone too). This is always the work of management. Side story : when I lived near the Santa Rita store in 2013 they had awful cart management. They had 0 in the store - they were not picked up. Even on a rainy night you had to turn around and go out and find a cart. I got friendly with one of the cashiers who transferred to the Waterford Safeway in Dublin. I asked him about the carts. He said "The manager wanted to keep costs down to secure his bonus so he understaffed us" If you get lousy service, I always blame management. read more

Went into deli dept at 4:30pm Wednesday and asked to whip up a fresh batch of fried chicken and the fellow said NO because he turned off the fryer. At 4:30pm ??? WTF it's only 4:30 pm even early for us. BYW what was left in the window looked old. I would imagine they would have a good dinner business if they had fresh food available. Very average Safeway with below average parking lot. The only stand out positive thing about it is that its 24 hours. You can tell a good neighborhood by whether or not a Whole Foods or a 24 hour Safeway is nearby. Castro Valley used to have 24 hour Safeways but that city has gone downhill. No Whole Foods nearby either. 20 years ago I remember when that was the place to be. So sad. Parking lot seems to get stopped up often due to a poor design. No electric car charging stations. Interior is dated and drab. In 4 more days the new Trader Joes will open - time for Safeway to get with it in order to stay competitive. This Safeway in its current condition would be good enough for Castro Valley but not Pleasanton. read more

The meat department needs to be re-trained for their customer service skills. Asking them questions may inhibit their work and seems to be a nuisance to them. They need to remember our purchases pay their wages. Many sales items are out of stock on the very first day of a sale. I just think many times Safeway intentionally does this to lure shoppers into their store. I just think it is very deceptive. read more

This Safeway has really gone down hills since I moved here years ago. Maybe because of the new one off of bernal. They have limited products. I could not even find phyllo.bplus it is not the first time I found expired products on the shelf. Lucky on Las positas is much more helpful and their people are trained well and they help you find things when you can find it yourself. Today I went in Saturday between 12_1pm and there was no one on the floor. They were all located in the front so you had to walk all the way to front just to be walked back to you where you were and the product still could not be found. We stopped at Safeway for some groceries since it was, at the moment, convenient. It reminded me of Kroger and a somewhat old school grocery store. In fact, you can use your Kroger card for discounts. As a Trader Joe's girl, I was making comparisons as we shopped. Many items were more expensive. I noticed some local Cali and West coast products, and I'm always up for a try. I think it's okay in a pinch but, given the choice, I'd head to TJ's. read more

I went to get chocolate cake at the cake register. I asked which one was chocolate and the lady points it out to me. I buy it and when I dig into it, it is in fact not chocolate. It is the driest, most sickeningly sweet, non chocolate frosting and bland white colored inside. Thats clearly not chocolate. By the way the lady wasnt wearing a mask or gloves and almost touched the cake as she was putting it into the box. Pls provide accurate descriptions next time. Thanks! read more

I'm not one to review but beware of the deli (artisan sandwiches) area. I feel like they are extremely understaffed especially during lunch hours. They usually only have 1 worker and not to be mean they are slow. I waited 20 minutes just to order a tuna sandwich...... If you choose to go just keep in mind that you will wait a while to order. read more

I felt prompted to write a review after reading the most recent reviews on this store. I've lived in Pleasanton since 1992 and I love my town. The reviews before me need to get a grip. No store is perfect. I've had dozens of sandwiches made here, and there were no bugs in them. And if there was a TINY ONE like pictured in the review below, that's life and it happens. No there aren't charging stations for electric cars, that's a luxury, not a requirement. No it hasn't been recently remodeled, but I prefer the low prices and great sales over fancy new tile floors. Besides, as soon as they start remodel construction, people will complain about that! They did just remodel the bathrooms which I see no one mentioned. If I want a bar in my store, I will head over to Dublin Whole Foods. If I want great prices and HUGE savings, I shop here. read more

Sometimes a Safeway can really feel like a nice old time neighborhood market. This is what I feel when I come in. The staff is friendly, they have an impressive selection of goods, what more could I want? Well, one more thing like the rare find of having a nice big, clean bathroom. Safeway's usually have tiny little bathrooms that are usually extremely dirty. The parking lot is a little dicey because the stalls are small and people don't look while backing out. It always happens to me anyway. I do enjoy coming here. My mom really loves coming here too. She always gets hit on. That's a plus, I guess. read more
