I just want to gave a compliments to the cashier name CHELSEA, she's so nice and helpful to her customers. I'm at the line next to the customers she was attending to and the old couple asked her how to get the Smart & Final digital coupon on their phone and CHELSEA was happy to help them. I'm so impressed because last week I went at this big supermarket in Alameda they're not busy yet and I've already clipped the digital coupon at my phone but somehow I can't find it and this cashier name VERONICA she put me aside and suspended my transaction and told me to look for it instead of helping me. So MEAN. I'm so upset at this lady and she did not have good customer services at all. Never back to this place anymore. Smart & Final at W. They do not have order pickup service here. They claim they do, so I tried to use it. I selected an anticipated arrival time. They "processed" the order (charged my card). I waited in my car longer than the whole 30-minute pickup time then went inside to question them. No help at all. Just claimed they didn't get the order. That was a total lie. My card was charged, they just flaked out. They have really gone downhill. Milk cartons look like they've been dropped and some aren't sealed. Water gallons are crushed, also to the point of leaking, and their produce is hit or miss. You can't count on them. One star only because it took half my morning to get $40 of groceries. I am so surprised at myself that I haven't done any reviews on any of the Smart & Finals that I have shopped at over the years. This review is ONLY for this Burbank location. This is my go to Smart & Final. The name speaks on it's own. Every time I have been to this location, it has always been a great experience to shop for whatever I needed to get. They are always fully stocked up on groceries: from fresh produce, meat, dairy, packaged deli items, fresh bread, pastries, flowers, cat/and dog food, to household items. Even paper goods and knick knack stuff. Huge aisles of many drinks from bottled/canned drinks to soda, mineral waters, and ALL sports drinks. You name it, they have it! Also, in BULK sizes for bigger household family members. They have gift cards and magazines too. I LOVE THIS STORE! SO MUCH! Let's not forget to mention the aisles and aisles of many different kinds of frozen food. Above & beyond EXCELLENT!! Lines move quickly at the checkout. Fast and prompt. Was there few days ago and was helped by many different employees with genuine, kind service and lovely smiles on their faces. Store is somewhat big, nice, clean, lovely ambiance and have a huge parking lot all to themselves. They also have a water machine if you need to get water, or refill your bottles. Fair, affordable prices and this Smart & Final has a good reputation in my book!! 10/5 stars!! Alright ... alright. I had it. This Smart & Final was never as bad as reviews indicated. You glance at the reviews and realize that some people are just ridiculous. That being said.. this location has been on a serious decline. I can't even quantify it but basically since the start of 2024, the brass at Smart & Final must have forgotten to make sure this place is keeping up to standards. Shelves and fridges are often vacant. You have employees standing around just watching this place fall apart. A couple of the ladies are definitely doing what they can but at the same time it isn't enough. I have had this happen so many times this year. One thing after another - messy or empty produce section. I'm not sure what's worst. Empty shelves. Literally no milk at one point. No cold cuts. No orange juice It's like there is no logistics here. Patches O'Houlihan would describe this best in a pre-match pep talk. Why didn't I write this sooner? I went the kind route. I went to other stores despite the inconvenience of having to drive a little further. I've been a local since 1996 so excuse me if I find stasis in my selections. What was the final straw? Bags and bags of moldy ass mandarins. The entire mandarin section was absolutely rotten. And there were two sections of them! How do you walk past this and not notice? Where are there systems and desire to manage this store effectively? You don't like your job - find another one. Don't do this to the community. I grabbed this bag - hoping to inspect it for purchase and my hand picked up the nasty odor and feel of the rotten fruit. I couldn't believe it. I told the cashier what had happened - and asked for hand sanitizer because of what happened. She directed me to the aisle where I could find one ... to purchase. Unbelievable. Either this Smart & Final needs some serious intervention or it needs to go. The community deserves better. It's not good enough. Period. Not going back - ever. I want everyone to know that Smart and Final on Burbank gave away my groceries to someone else not me. I ordered pick up. I got the pickup text. Responded to text saying I was 5 minutes away. Texted I arrived. I waited 15 minutes and then I called and asked where is my stuff. They said someone else had picked it up, an Uber driver. I did not ask for delivery and they don't even care. I was given the phone number that I called. Haven't received a callback yet. They don't even answer the phone. I was setting in 98 degree running my car to keep the air conditioning running. I spent more in gas that saved. I once had to wait an hour at the Smart and Final on Verdugo at 104 degrees. They kept saying that someone called in sick and they will back out for my pickup order. I believed it was unique situation. That's why I chosed a different location. Smart and Final have great prices however they under staffed. I can find the deals elsewhere. Just so you know Walmart pickup has always been reliable and similar prices to Smart and Final. I never had to wait more than 15 minutes. Who ever that Uber driver was he should be banned from Uber! They gave my groceries away to somebody. They couldn't be bothered to look at their paperwork to see that it was a store pickup. read more

Prices are decent enough but the store is a mess. There were plants obstructing one of the produce aisles when I was there a few months ago and I had a bad fall while trying to navigate around them. Also, this location has great handicapped parking spaces but the only shopping carts are located halfway across the parking lot. It doesn't do much good to have good handicapped parking if your handicapped patrons have to walk halfway back into the parking lot to get a cart. I probably won't go back to this location anytime soon. read more

I don't get this location...and I know that's a weird way to start a review, but it's how I felt as I left. No carts available (literally zero: not in front of the store, the parking lot, or inside). Taking a basket, it limited my shopping. Very cramped inside, though the shelves were organized. Going to the registers (with a lot less than I planned to buy because I can only carry so much in here) 7 people were in front of me for the 1 register open. A guy maybe twice my age has 3 big boxes of stuff in his arms because it wouldn't fit in a basket. After a while, someone else shows up to open another register, all with the warmth of an agent at a border crossing. There is nowhere to bag items in these lanes and having them do so was too much (apparently), so I did it myself. She spoke the total and that was it. Upon leaving, another shopper asks, "where are the carts?" My checker said "I found one in the back - I put it over there (pointing)." How helpful. Food is there, so I'm guessing S&F corporate knows the location is still open. (And hey, they had the sangria I prefer, so there's that) But when a store goes out of their way to make it HARDER to shop there...well, I don't get it. read more

It's not as crowded during the week. The few times I've been here, I do notice a lot of things are out of stock. Maybe I'm here at odd times, Idk. Other than that, pretty convenient for bulk items rather than having to deal with all the drama at Costco. This location is not as busy which I can appreciate. I shop at this store here and there for years when I need to get more food and drinks for various events. The store has a big parking lot, inside everything is well organized, not overwhelmingly huge, prices are decent, customer service is pretty good, never had issues. I wish their selection would be better, as you can expect, you get certain big brands and that's about it. Smart & Final is helpful for certain situations, I wouldn't recommend it for your daily grocery shopping. read more

Kudos to the staff for sticking up for the squash when a customer insisted it was a melon. The manager even cut it in half to verify the contents and she STILL was a disbeliever as she declared its melon heritage. It was, in fact, a squash and there's nothing wrong with that. read more

I would give this Smart and Final Store 471 location 0 stars. Stopped by this store at approximately 435pm today. I decided to add a bag of ice to my purchase. Amanda, my cashier and the manager of this location in Burbank, directed me to "get the bag out of the cooler on the end, it was the only door unlocked." I did as directed. In 2 seconds Amanda comes running out yelling, " thats a large bag!" I look at her perplexed, as I had done as she directed....I stood there watching her checking through the other coolers. She saw for herself there was no distinction and only one size bag of ice in the coolers and some melted. I stood there feeling dehumanized by the manager, Amanda. She saw for herself everything was melted and unusable and the only bags in the cooler were one size. She also stated to me " if you come here, then you should know there are two ice bag sizes." Wow. I ask for a refund. She begins the process then abruptly stops and quite mean-spirited asks the adjacent cashier to do it. Store manager Amanda, was dismissive and quite agitated. The cashier, Celestine, says she needs the receipt. I walk back to my vehicle to get the receipt so I may get my refund for the ice. I ask for the number and address for the corporate office. Amanda storms out of the office and approaches me while receiving my refund from Celestine. Amanda in a highly disrespectful tone, starts to quote the number quickly; so fast I had to ask her to repeat it. She did so in a huff. She also stated she didn't have the address for the corporate office. I love this community and like spending money and contributing to my community, however, this experience today at Store 471 with store manager, Amanda has lead me to one conclusion... myself, my company will never patronize this store again. Clean, modern and not too crowded (yet). I can do my business and get in and out in usually less than ten minutes. There is always parking available. The staff is also knowledgeable and helpful. I've been coming here for years and I've seen staff that has been here as long as Ive been a customer. That says something about this place. There's Decent size parking lot as well. For starters, I don't know why this business is still here considering they opened up a much nicer Smart & Final Extra down the street a couple years ago. But that being out of the way, this store is okay. For me and my family, it's not a first-stop grocery store as their selection is hit and miss. The prices can be absolutely fantastic at times, but their selection can feel you're in a massive 7-Eleven or a mini Costco (take your pick). Since it's a smaller than average grocery store, sometimes they can cram their items in the aisles making it difficult to find what you're looking for if you're in a hurry. In a typical grocery store store, aisles tend to have somewhat of a theme limiting their categories to 4-5 like items. In this Smart & Final, they can cram a ton of categories in the same aisle where the aisle signs only cover a small fraction of what's stocked there. The other problem is their lack of staffing in the evening. I'm sure there's a logic to this from things like increased government regulation to maintaining palatable prices to keep customers coming back. But having a single cashier in the evening, night-after-night, is both concerning to a much larger potential issue in our local economy and annoying. Regardless, as someone who used to staff a team of employees in a very busy store, I get it. But that still doesn't make it a fun shopping experience. Part of me is either rooting for self-checkout lines in this store to the big-bad-awful that is them closing down to have ALDI take over. But that's all just distant, unrealistic thinking. In the meantime, I still shop here when I need an ingredient to prepare a meal (again, a massive 7-Eleven). But this isn't and cannot be the "grocery store trip" of the week. read more

It's around 2:30pm on a Thursday afternoon and I am rushing around town to pick up supplies for the Yelp party that night. Since we were serving wines and cheeses, I needed cups and plates and napkins and thought, hey, Smart & Final will have it! So I "luck" into this location on Burbank and pop in, grab what I need and get in the only line open. There is an elderly couple ahead of me and they are super sweet and smiling at me and they finish up and then it's my turn. As I'm standing there, the checker gets a phone call on the business line and takes it. From there the following conversation transpired... Cashier: "Hey...yeah, I know...yeah...he did...girl, last night! Yeah, no, I was like no way you know and he's all like damn n shiiiit...yeah and then Marcus comes over and they are all.....yeah, I know, it's sooo stooopid" ME: (Watching her swipe my items too many times) "Umm, I think you double charged me for the plates" Cashier: (Dirty Look at me, but still talking to her friend on the phone) "Yeah, whatever, I know, but you know I like him so I dunno..." ME: "Umm, are you gonna re-ring that up?" Cashier: "I know, girl, that's what I'm tryin to tell you, he's all up in my game and then you know he's gonna get all crazy n shit..." ME: (Annoyed and looking at her) Cashier: (Slight neck roll, plus a raised eyebrow and an eye roll) "What, you gotta swipe your card, tsssss" ME: "You rang it up wrong" Cashier: "Girl, I gotta go, I know right, so stoooopid..." She then proceeds to roll her eyes again and deletes the over-charge and tosses my receipt in the basket and then goes on to help the next person. No "thanks," no "Oh sorry about that," no "Have a nice day." Nothing! I swear people are awesome, seriously. Customer service at its finest! read more

We live right down the street so this is our go-to store because of the convenience. CONS Not a huge selection at all, a lot of processed foods and not a lot of fresh foods. Pricey, though they do occasionally have decent sales on some products. During peak hours they often only have 1-2 registers open. They don't sell alcohol after 8PM. When I asked if this was a Burbank thing or a S&F thing they said it was specific to their store cause "too many people were complaining about people drinking in the parking lot off the alley at night"...hmmm, seems more like a BPD issue than a S&F issue to me. PROS Friendly customer service/employees. Most of them know our entire family by name because we go so often. Parking is never an issue (though we usually walk unless we make a quick stop after work). In all honesty I think ever since opening the other Smart & Final right down the street they need to change this to a Trader Joes. A Smart & Final as my backyard is just OK. A Trader Joes would be a dream come true (especially since there is only one Trader Joes in Burbank and it's all the way on the other side of town). read more

had to make a return last week and I must say, not only was the manager very helpful but the staff were awesome as well. Even though I incurred a $300 carpet cleaning bill (cream/milk I bought had a hole and stuff leaked all over the fridge and on the carpet!!) when I called that morning to inquire about their return policy on the defective, unopened item, the manager apologized for the inconvenience and was very respectful. when I went in the store, the cashier/staff assisted me with a smile. from previous experience at this same store #471 Burbank), the staff are always polite, friendly and their customer service is stellar.
