Back-tracking through the drafts and bookmarks to "My First Sounders Game" day of ridiculous shenanigans and I'm compelled to write up Sluggers. When Work Husband was given tickets to a game from a client, much to the jealous dismay of the office, he brought me along. The tickets included a free buffet and free parking but we ensured a real adventure for us both by arriving early enough for bar hopping, merchandise shopping and general 'soak up the crowd'. To be honest, I liked this place better than Elysian next door for the day. Somehow, even though they were both packed and Sluggers is smaller, this place just felt *right*, where the vibe of Elysian just...didn't. Not for game day, at least. Despite the crowds and lines, they had more bartenders on staff than Elysian did (weird, right?) and our orders (one shot, one well drink each) were served up super quick and super strong and with a genuine smile. Sadly, again comparing, that did not happen that day next door. TVs everywhere, fans everywhere and a general vibe of camaraderie, excitement and love of SPORTSBALL really makes this place feel like the quintessential of sports bars done right. This place will be a top choice for me on game day, whether I have tickets to whatever ball is being sported about at the nearby stadiums or not. read more

Sluggers is one of THE go-to classic sports bars in the city of Seattle. Located right by both the football and baseball stadiums, this is the ideal place to have a few drinks either before or after a game. Make sure you take a look at every inch of wall space as all of it is coevered with photos, jerseys, autographs, and just about anything else related to the history of Seattle sports. Drinks are always on point, the food is pretty standard bar fare, and the service ranges in quality depending on how crowded it is. FOOD REVIEW ONLY - I know, why am I reviewing a bar if I didn't drink, but some of you might go there and eat so I'm speaking to you lol. After a wtf experience at the airport (my boyfriend left his wallet on the flight and that took about 1-2 hours to get back, and then my friends husband couldn't find the car for a couple of hours) we went down 1st street looking for some food around 9pm. We didn't venture very far, but there wasn't a whole lot going on for a Friday night and the kitchens were closed at most spots. Sluggers was open and so was their kitchen - so that was good. Just to touch on drinks so you stop being judge-e - there was a full bar, enough of a beer selection, and the folks that ventured in after a sporting event gave the impression that this sports bar gets lots of post-sports rowdy business. Good for them. It's a bar. Food options are 100% bar food, though they had some unique options. We had the corn dog bites, cordon bleu bites, and mac and cheese bites. Yes, all tan to dark tan foods, all fried, but not greasy and overall decent. All bites. The corn dog bites were good corn dog bites. I had them with some mustard and was happy. The chicken cordon bleu was fried lava, so careful when you bite in. Those were fine as well, paired with the honey mustard sauce. The mac and cheese bites were meh. The mac and cheese needed a kick of salt in the pants. And we were served it with tartar sauce (?????). Not a winning combination, as you'd imagine. The spot itself is almost like a bar with seats and a narrow lane behind that with benches against the wall for seating. I would imagine it gets super packed because of the layout, but fun if you're out celebrating with other Seattle fans. read more

Stopped in here after the game.. it's located right after you leave Safeco Field. The guy at the door cards you but there wasn't a charge at the time we went. This place got noisy and crowded really quick. We had left the game kind of early before it was actually over with because we knew the outcome, but if we had gotten there any later there would have been absolutely no place to sit. We were lucky to get there just in time to get two places at the bar. It was literally packed though after the game. We met all kinds of folks and I wish I had been hungerier but I had just eaten a big hot dog at the game. I sure wanted to try the food. The liquor was flowing freely here. Was a great place to stop at but not sure I would stop in again after a game- too noisy and too crowded. I did love the atmosphere though. Seemed kind of frat partish but it was all good. read more

Pre-game drinks with friends. One hour, one visit from waitress, one drink. I don't understand management's logic behind having so few waitresses on the floor prior to a baseball game. The place was packed. They could easily double their sales volume just by adding another couple of waitresses. My drink, Jack and Coke, came in a 16oz tumbler resulting in a soft drink with a hint of whiskey showing through, not very good. Also, it was very loud. Conversations with the person sitting next to you were strained. Table conversation was non-existent. Although I did enjoy the selection of music blaring from the speakers. I doubt I will ever return to Slugger's. Even for a sport's bar I was overly crowded and more hassle than it was worth. read more

I came here to have lunch while waiting for the train. They were open when most places were closed on Saturday morning. The service was great. I had the patties melt which I haven't had in years. It was delicious and it's plenty of onions and cheese. I'm hesitant to ever order tater tots because most places give a soggy, grease laden mush. These were the best tater tots I've had. Crisp, crunchy, not greasy. The salad was good greens, not standard boring iceberg lettuce. The music was perfect and a many TVs to watch sports on. Definitely recommend. read more

Sluggers...I want to like you. I really really do. You have all the things I like...sports memorabilia, a giant moose head on the walls, TVs everywhere, deep fried food (macaroni bites...good golly, Miss Molly!) booze (although your Jaegermeister could be a little colder...just sayin'), pretty girls serving said booze. All that given, there's just some things that rub me the wrong way. This place is packed on a Seahawks game day, which points to the fact that you are insanely popular. Possibly due to your adjacency to the stadium, who really knows. Even with upstairs seating, this leads to difficulty navigating and finding a table and/or anyone you know, which isn't always a problem here. And maybe it's just a game day thing, but the floors...I've been to 100s, nay, 1000s of bars all over. Never have I been so scared to let my feet touch the floor until I came here. That being said, I still managed to find myself back here many times over. My friends would say, "Yeah, we can go to Sluggers. You got your boots, 'cuz the floor will eat you..." It's that bad. But when you're serving drunks from sunrise til last call, that'll happen. There are other places you could go with cleaner floors that are a little quieter, if that's what you're looking for. But Sluggers is what it is. A sports bar, close to the stadiums, that's there for people who want to grab a drink and maybe a bite and go. Or if it's game day...a place to drown their Seahawks/Sounders/Mariners/Huskies-induced sorrows. If you're looking for upscale, this isn't for you. Head up the street or down the street for that. What doesn't change is the location - directly across Occidental from Qwest Field and a couple of blocks from Safeco. The place is packed before and after games. The name, Sluggers, is appropriate. Can you say PACKED?! Unless you're here super early before a sporting event, don't even THINK you'll be able to get in. During the last Sounders' game, the line was out the door -- and the inside isn't even that large to begin with. With that being said, much of going to any sporting event is the camaraderie you experience while drinking beers and eating junk food amongst fellow fans...so for that, this place is great... We ended up stopping in here before a Sounders game. SO PACKED. We didn't get any food or anything so I can't say much about that. The atmosphere was good. They have two levels, which is nice since there isn't much room between the bar and the wall for customers to get by. Also, pretty limited seating. The staff was friendly even though they were slammed. From what I could tell from the clientele this is where hot guys in Seattle like to congregate. Expect to have a good time. - Drink Selection: It's a bar. Sluggers has everything one would ever desire for successful prefunction needs. - Food: Average food, at best. Try the fried macaroni triangles as an aid to help soak up all of that alcohol you're about to drink. - Bartenders / Staff / Owners: Familiar faces all around, season after season. For big events, a patron at Sluggers may even find themselves lucky enough to be seated next to the owners, Shane and Shelly. This place is really skinny! But regardless, we found a table upstairs and had a pretty good time! The beer was decently affordable, and the service was great. My favorite food I tried was the fried mac and cheese. Unfortunately, the fried ravioli was served so hot, when i bit into it, the cheese squeezed out the other end onto my hand and burned my hand. On the plus side, it's a genuine piece of Seattle history, and it is very convenient to either one of the ballparks. You'll see various memorabilia from "back in the day". There are a bunch of TV screens and due to the layout, several will be close to you. As an actual destination, Sluggers is not all that fabulous. Sluggers is sort of like a shed, sandwiched between two "real" buildings, and as a result it's sort of laid out like a hallway with bar stools. I'm sure it gets packed on game days. I was here at 4:00, midweek so we were the only people there. The beer lineup is good, but the servers can't tell you what is actually on tap. No beer list, and the tap handles are at three different locations, so you'll need to go on a reconnaissance mission to find out what they actually have, which should be "great fun" when the place is packed. You wouldn't think that having a tap list, or memorizing a dozen tap handles would be that tough, but apparently it is at Sluggers. One other annoyance: no happy hour on game days. Thanks guys, you've got a heart of gold. Or at least a pocket. The food is OK. It's passable pub grub but the place will not be mistaken for a restaurant. read more

Shabby, dirty, soda syrup levels from the fountain were on the heavy side, slow service, doors were open and the place was a bit cold but what a deal! Today's special was the meatball sub w/fries or salad for $7.00. A toasted run of the mill Safeway type hoagie roll toasted with slices of processed swiss topped with like 8-9 nice sized meat balls in a nice little sauce. The fries on my plate probably tipped the scales at over 1 pound. They were especially crisp and of the crinkle cut variety. They would have been perfect if they had been salted and maybe a little less crisp. I am currently suffering from the food coma from eating about half of my plate. In closing, I think this place is a nice little bar with food that should have a warning label that let's you know exactly how much food you should expect. It's not getting a Michelin star anytime soon but for large plates and 32oz. sodas for lunch, it's a nice change. read more

Perfect place to grab a beer and munchies before a game or to hang out during the prime sports season near both Century Link & Safeco fields. The staff are really friendly and attentive. The best place to sit are in the booths against the wall of the bar. It reminds me of sitting in the Sports Book inside the MGM's casino. Nicely decorated with sports memorabilia and autographed coasters. My only problem is the scent of urine/urinal cakes waft in the air once in a while. So it's very off putting if you've ordered food. It's ridiculous how this place is laid out. It's one very long thin aisle from 1 door to the other door. If you're with friends and standing at the bar be ready to have people run into you the whole time just walking by as the aisle was not even made for 2 people. Go here if you like really crowded places and really cheap shitty beer. They always have huge discounts on national macrobrews. Oh Sluggers, it's hard not to like this divey bar. Tater Tots. Tater Tots. Tater Tots...Rainier tall boys or any kind of cheap beer tall boy...everyone gets those beloved crispy fried taters, usually after having had one too many cheap beers. Great spot for pre-gaming before or after any Seattle sporting event - you can always count on the crowd to be there. My first, and last, experience at Sluggers was terrible. I ordered a beer at the upstairs bar and asked the bartender if I could open a tab. She said sure, took my card and tucked it into her apron. Fast forward one beer and three hours later, I returned to close out my tab and a different bartender said it wasn't there. She explained, rudely, that each bartender handles their own tabs. I asked four girls and no one had my card. I asked to speak with a manager two times, no one appeared. I checked again at the end of the night and was told that no one had my card. I called two times the next day and one person who answered told me that he couldn't help because they were "super busy." Well, I was super annoyed that your co-worker lost my credit card! I finally reached someone helpful and he told me that he checked with all the girls and no one had my card. His advice was to cancel my card and watch for fraudulent charges. I didn't cancel earlier because I was keeping an eye on my statement and there weren't any charges. I assumed the bartender accidentally misplaced my card and would find it. I did end up canceling and now have to go through the hassle of changing all my banking information. The worst part is that no one apologized. No one made any solid attempts to help me the night my card went missing. No one asked if I wanted to speak to a manager or brought one over when I requested one. They didn't offer anything in return such as a free appetizer or a round of drinks! All in all - terrible service, bartenders who obvioulsy can't do their job, and poor customer service. Fine, not great ... Since we were with my child, we had to sit upstairs. It was hot up there. Ventilation could use some improvement. Lots of interesting Seahawks memorabilia. Good ambience. Beer was served in plastic cups. I'd expect this at a ball game, not at a bar. Food was typical bar fare ... passable, not exceptional. Fried pickle chips were good. Burgers were good. The side salad one of us ordered more resembled shredded lettuce that would be better served as a burger topping than an actual salad. Maybe it was the same thing. The waitress, one time, when refilling our water grabbed the cup by the lip, putting wrapping her fingers on the inside of the glass, refilled it and brought it back. My daughter and I were flying into Seattle after an early game for the Mariners. She had her heart set on going to a sports bar by the stadium since we missed the game. Bouncer at the door stopped us and said we are closing in 5 minutes. It's been a slow day. It was 6:37 pm for the love of Christ. So, I said " I thought y'all were a restaurant too, so what gives with closing before 7". Bouncer said it's been a slow day, so not worth staying open. This is the best place to go drink prior to a M's, Sounders, or Seachickens game. The beers on tap are varied and reasonably priced (particularly compared to the stadium fare), and the food comes out quick and is just what the doctor ordered when you're 4 beers in. Recommended entrees are the french dip with swiss chees and a side salad (then you can at least pretend you're being healthy). If you want to run into random people while imbibing prior to games, head here. Less pretentious than its neighbors, but fills up very fast.
