Finally a new brunch spot opened up around me! You basically walk in and sit yourself down and place your order at the counter. The environment is very spacious. A lot of available seatings and plenty of space to maneuver in. Love the decoration inside, very modern and aesthetically pleasing to the eyes. Only one restroom, but thank for for such a clean bathroom! Customer service is SPECTACULAR! They offer a variety of fresh baked goods. Variety of caffeinated drinks and non-caffeinated drinks. They also have a variety of breakfast and brunch options to choose from. Their brunch options are only for weekends only. Let's start with what I tried this time around: 1) FRESH SQUEEZED ORANGE JUICE: Yes, definitely on the pricier side. $6, but it is indeed freshly squeezed. My boyfriend didn't really enjoy it much though sadly, he said it was way too sour. 2) STRAWBERRY ARMOLD PALMER: I personally really enjoyed it. Not too sweet and not too sour and I love that they added a mint leaf for some added taste. 3) AVOCADO TOAST: A small portion, but it is perfect for me. I love everything about this toast, especially with the added pesto inside. So so delicious. Will definitely come back again and again just for this! 4) STEAK & EGSS: My boyfriend got this as his meal and he was slightly disappointed. The steak was way too cooked (his fault for not telling the cashier how he wanted his steak and the cashier's fault for forgetting to ask how he wants his steak). The steak was way too salty. They also added salt and pepper to his eggs, but it should be an option for the customers to add for themselves. The meal was suppose to come with cheese and jalapeño butter on the side, but it wasn't provided. They forgot. My boyfriend also said that he wish there was some greens on the side of his plate to go with the steak. Even though the Steak & Eggs was not so good and they forgot to provide the side condiments with the meal, when I mentioned it to the manager/boss, she sincerely apologized and gave us some baked goods to take to go. The food here is delicious but many times I've come in a gotten a weird vibe. I waited at the front register for take out order. The woman came to the register and stood. No engagement. I asked for pastry. She asked if I wanted anything else. Item was placed on counter in front of me and the woman rang it up and walked away. No bag but at least she did provide a napkin. I came here with a friend during lunchtime midweek. It was pretty empty, but my friend said she's seen it get pretty crowded on weekend brunch times where they have more brunch items on the menu. This place is a new gem to sunset park. I'm always excited for good coffee and food so I couldn't wait to try. I had an iced latte, chicken wrap with side salad, and home fries. My friend had the smoked salmon scramble and got a single scrambled egg for her toddler son. I enjoyed my wrap, it was satisfying and filling. The side salad was good too and took up a big part of my plate even though it's advertised as a "small" side salad. My friend said her salmon scramble was way too salty, but I guess that was from the smoked salmon. All in all I enjoyed the environment and food here, I will be back. read more

This restaurant caught us by surprise! True definition of hidden gem! It was relatively busy the morning of when we walked in. They offer a wide range of coffees, juices, shakes, etc! WHAT I NEED to try next time is their tasty looking selection of pastries. Their service was working at max speed as every employee was working so well in a knit tight environment. On my way to my art studio in Sunset Park, I happened upon this cute cafe on their second day of business. I popped in for lunch. Slimak's interior is clean and airy with a bunch of tables and booths and a counter toward the back. The owners were friendly and happy to see all the new customers. I ended up ordering a roasted Turkey Panini with sharp cheddar and a strawberry lemonade to go. They quickly prepared the order and packed my bag with a thank you slice of blueberry pie! The lemonade was perfect for a warm day. My sandwich was good. The bread a bit on the oily side, the lettuce had some iceberg spines that I could have done without and the salad was underdressed but overall I'm excited to go back. A welcomed addition to a neighborhood sorely lacking in good brunch spots! First thing I noticed was the cleanliness of the place and the decor. Place was well lit and had great ventilation so we didn't smell like food after our meal. I ordered the quinoa ribeye hash with sweet potato and it was delicious! It's a smaller dish, so don't expect to feel like you just ate a gut busting meal. My gf ordered the ranchero burrito which I will make damn sure to order next time I come back. That was a legit breakfast burrito (of the Mexican pursuasian) that even had a decent serving of avocado. Avocado wasn't extra either. Let me repeat that. In this cafe, here in NYC, avocado is not an addition that requires extra $. Let that sink in. Soooo if you love avocado like I do, make sure you get that burrito. You're welcome. As for the coffee, it was great! I got a regular iced coffee and my gf got a iced latte (way better than mine...) They went great with the apple turnover that was given us for FREE by the end of the meal. But FYI the nice lady who gave it to us said they probably weren't going to sell it that day since it wasn't super busy. Slimak is an ok spot. The food is bland and confusing. Some of the combinations don't fit, and although I believe their interpretation of the specific dishes are good SOMEWHERE in the world, it's not good at Slimak. First, let's start with the feel of the place; it's a cozy environment much similar to Starbucks, but brighter. The restaurant layout is very open; not once did I feel overwhelmed by the crowds - there were many. The decor is modern-rustic with the tables being made of hard-wood-planks shaped in a geometric pattern and iron rods as light fixtures. In addition, the barista-ordering area kept the same theme; modern to destress wood and iron with subway tiles as a backsplash. Second, the menu: Slimak problems lie with its menu; it's too much - even the simplest of critics would take note of that. Some may enjoy the diverse choices, but on a busy Sunday morning when turnaround time per guest (order to food-on-table) is over 20 minutes, that's a problem. Condensing your choices to what your best sellers are (data found in Point of Sale system) would allow you to work more efficiently - they had over 50 menu options in a market that dictates 20 as being too much. Third, the food: the food was disappointing. We order the pulled pork opened face and the jalapeno cheddar baked biscuits with a weird sweet potato mash (it had chicken and sausage). The pulled pork opened face is a glorified eggs benedict, but the only difference, if you haven't guessed it, is the pulled pork. The dish was ok, but lacked seasoning in all individual components (eggs, hollandaise sauce, the pulled pork). The dish was dressed nicely. The jalapeno cheddar baked biscuits with the weird sweet potato mash was a disaster. As a disclaimer: I've had, before, an amazing fried chicken and sweet potato mash that was delightful; it wasn't the case at Slimak. That dish looked like Shrek vomited on the plate. It tasted like that too. The textures were poorly balanced, and although the biscuit helped, it missed another layer of crunch or hard ingredient to bring the dish together. The flavor was off putting - the sweetness of the sweet potato was overbearing. Forth, the coffee and drinks: we didn't indulge in coffee and instead went with our guilty pleasures - Nutella & Mexican Hot Chocolate. They were good, but stupidly over priced drinks. That's all I have to say. Fifth, the tip: I wish they allowed the option to tip after, because the tip is paid when ordering at the counter (first order and then food is delivered to your table). The wait time, plus the bland sub-par food warranted less of the tip I paid. Conclusion: Slimak is a over priced restaurant that exploits our generation's fascination with eating out and experiencing nothing (because it is what it is - wasting money to talk about how good of a waste it was). Slimak can be good, but fails because of it's confusing menu (too much). Update 1/19/2019: the business owner commented stating that my review was idiotic; not so true. It's honest - and absolutely true in that regard - it's quite in depth. I guess she's not used to brutally honest criticism. The food sucks. Starbucks is a coffee shop, so in truth, it's similar. Starbucks was mentioned because majority of people have not visited Slimak; the layout is very similar and was only mentioned for context. ¡¡¡¡¡We didn't say it was LIKE Starbucks. We said, "had similar cozy feel like Starbucks". Not even remotely close!!!!!!!!! If the owner took the time to read the full review, she'd take the criticism and adapt. Not all restaurants are good, and I refuse to sugar coat trash establishments. Shame on you owner. Be better. In addition, I'm quite familiar with your food, and truth be told.... The tomatillo salsa it came with complimented it beautifully. We also got a decadent s'mores brownie on the way out which was delicious (albeit completely unnecessary after that filling meal!). Their coffee is brewed well, and my friends swear by swinging by here for egg sandwiches on croissant and a coffee on busy weekends to take home. This was one of my favorite brunch locations in Brooklyn. I have been a customer almost since this place was opened. I love the food and the owner is really nice. I noticed the rude customer service here and there especially when the owner isn't around and I've tried to ignore and assumed maybe they're having a bad day but after today 2/26/2023, I decided to NEVER set a food in this place. My kids don't like veggies or sauce on their sandwiches . I usually order for them a turkey sandwich with everything on the side "only plain turkey inside the sandwich" which is exactly what I ordered today. The cashier " who looks like he's new" asked another employee to come and help him enter my order .She was really frustrated that I was making a customized order ( I made an additional request for gluten-free bread for my allergic son). She asked me, " what do I want on the side?" I told her whatever in the sandwich except the turkey, I even had to explain that this order comes with cheese & onion and I DON'T want any of the extras in the sandwich but only on the side " she treated me like I should know their menu more than them". They brought the wrong orders ( regular orders, no customization applied). I asked the waiter to please correct my order, he brought me extra sides. I told him, this is NOT what I ordered and refused to accept them. After that, the same rude employee came and took our plates. She told me that I need to pay an extra charge for the new replacements!! This was the breaking point for me. I told her "why would I pay for a mistake you made"?? and asked to see the manager. It was really upsetting how she insisted that the order is correct, treating me Like I am unable to understand a simple order. I am wondering if she would say the same thing if I didn't have an "accent". It's unfortunate that some people assume you're not smart enough only because they hear you speak with an accent which what her attitude reflects. Ironically this is sunset park where English is almost a second language here. The manager offered to correct the orders but at this point, I completely lost my appetite. I told them to cancel the orders and left all our paid food untouched on the table including the other two omelets that we ordered.This was $116 brunch that we wasted (including the orders they didn't correct or refund). They already ruined my Sunday morning and I didn't want to ruin any additional moments that I should have been enjoying with my family. Finally, I don't wish for my review to negatively impact this employee. I just wish she learns to treat people with respect and for the management to address any issues that are causing this type of behavior when they're not around. read more

It took 30 minutes for the food to come out and the place wasn't even busy. There was only 1 table of two ahead of us so I was pretty surprised at how long we had to wait for such simple dishes. That's my only complaint. The girls working were very pleasant and nice. The food was good and filling. I ended up taking half of the croissant to go because it was heavier than I expected. The duck liver mousse would've definitely been better if the bread was toasted but it was still enjoyable. The space itself is brand new so it's really clean and that's always a plus. Before this, we only had Zona Sur in the immediate area (who now needs to step it up tbh) Diverse and eclectic brunch menu with both healthy and not-so-healthy options. Everything we've eaten here has been awesome - breakfast wraps, various sandwiches, salads, etc. Not to mention the PASTRIES!! Do they make these in house?? They're delicious. Coffee is solid too. Found this new spot in the Sunset Park neighborhood recently and immediately fell in love! I have eaten there and done take-out, both were very smooth considering that it's a quite new place. The staff is very kind and helpful! I have only tried their weekday menu, you get your salads, sandwiches and bowls with a nice healthy kick, I'd love to try their weekend menu, it seems like there's a lot more to expect. Their quinoa bowl and oatmeal bowl are very nice, overall not expensive at all, they also make great coffee. The place is also spacious inside, there's a nice little garden area in the front with chairs, it's baby-friendly, they are an order-then-sit-down type of restaurant, orders came relatively quickly and they were all good. I have frequented slimak for some time now. I would like to describe a recent encounter where i felt discriminated. I went with a friend - our order came out to about $18 and I asked if it was okay to pay with a hundred dollar bill (im a nanny and sometimes get paid in $100's). The woman taking my order said it was fine. This conversation was in Spanish. The employee took my bill and went to check with a woman who im assuming is the manager -- they spoke to eachother in English, infront of us, they confirmed the bill was real, and the manager also added that it was up to her to make the final call-on whether or not to take my bill. Im bilingual and understood what was said . The employee (whom i originally spoke to in Spanish) comes back and tells me that she will not accept my bill because if it was false theyd make her pay for it. Weird. Sunset Park only gets better as days go by. Now with Slimak as a new edition to the neighborhood, what's there to complain about. I found Slimak as a by the way while searching for a breakfast spot to meet a friend. Lo and behold I find this awesome new space, with absolutely beautiful, modern and welcoming decor. A quick scan of their menu proved it to be easy to order. They have so many delicious items, including a weekend brunch menu. My friend and I ordered eggs with home fries and an avocado toast, also a coffee. Everything was so delicious and fresh, I just had to go over to the owner and compliment him. (What a lovely guy). The prices are super reasonable and if you need a place to do some quick work or to just read a book while being at a cafe, this is definitely the space. I recommend Slimak wholeheartedly and can't wait to return to try some more goodies. read more

A friend of mine has been going here obsessively since they opened and I finally understand why after joining him for lunch the other day. As has been mentioned a few times, the space itself is beautiful and tastefully decorated. I had the field greens and goat cheese salad - topped with walnuts, prosciutto and a fig vinaigrette - and it was perfect. My friend's chicken wrap was fresh and well composed, too. At the end of our meal, one of the servers came over and gave us each a free pastry to take home which was a great way to conclude our experience and - obviously - give us yet another good reason to return.
