    Stewed chicken sandwich ($13.50)

Really solid casual brunch spot in the neighborhood. Love the St. Lucian flair on the menu since the standard American classics tend to get a bit basic/boring to me (oops). When I first came in the summer, my partner and I shared a fried salt fish pocket, the BEST sandwich and the breakfast burrito. We each ordered a specialty iced latte as well and I remember enjoying the entire meal. V delicious but our only complaint was that there was no AC on a sweltering hot day. We returned last week and had a more comfortable experience (since it's the dead of winter now!) and my partner got the BEST again - he drenched it in the hot sauce and inhaled the whole thing himself. For me, I went with the stewed chicken sandwich this time and loveddd it, especially with the side of pickled veggies. So tasty and what a unique sandwich/brunch item. Would def get again. We also tried the chicken Caesar wrap which was just alright - if you've been on chicken caesar wrap-tok this one had avocados in it which was... not what I was expecting. If dining in, you can grab any table, scan the QR code for the menu and order/pay straight on your phone - again, super casual.

Got two ice mochas ($7 each). It's expensive as they use the regular 16oz medium size cups. Drink is good but I would go to Connecticut muffin next door for their iced mocha. They do the same thing with a large size cup

Had the most amazing experience at Blue Star Parlor this afternoon! What a gem! I can't believe I hadn't heard of it before. I was on Google Maps looking for a place to have lunch with my mom today and came across this place after 15 minutes of searching. I'm so happy I came across it! It's a quaint cafe on Cortelyou road a couple doors down from the flower shop/bar "Sycamore." When we got there, there were a few people seated out back and one patron on the interior. Perfect timing! We ordered the ginger turmeric tea and the Saint Lucian haute cacao hot drinks to start. I had the hot cocoa with coconut milk. Delish!!! For our meals, my mom ordered the passion fruit pancakes with a side of eggs. I decided to treat myself to the B.E.S.T. (Biscuit Egg Sausage and Tomato croissant sandwich). It consisted of House Made Lamb Sausage, Tomato, Chipotle Aioli and Mini Omelet Sandwiched in a Butter Biscuit. I was pleased to find out that I ordered the same thing that the owner had just finished snacking on. I knew then that I made a good choice! I cannot speak enough of how great everything was--the no-frills setting, exceptional service, quality food, and hospitality! Sherman, the owner, shared a bit of history about the place. It's been around since 2015 but he grew up in the neighborhood and wanted to pay homage to his Saint Lucian roots by opening the cafe there. I cannot wait to be back! Thanks for an excellent experience, Sherman! See you soon!

As I walk in, the friendly lady behind the counter asks me what I would like. I respond: A cappuccino please. Then, I carefully inquire further for what baked goods are available with a smile. In her reply, she tells me sadly that there is only croissants. So not being picky, I tell her: Great, I'll have one. Next, she brings me a cappuccino on a glass saucer and my croissant on a dish. Also, there are numerous napkins, sugar, long stemmed spoon given to me as well. I felt like a sports lounge vibe with many tables and chairs (probably enough to seat 35 people at least). Most demographic would be elders, mostly men, in their 40's to 60's kicking back and enjoying the hot, lazy afternoon. It was around 3 pm and I just got off a flight. Now, I know how the other half lives and it's nice!

I found the service impolite and dismissive. And the coffee pod, yes a COFFEE POD AT A CAFÉ is outrageous. Well aside from me noticing a bit to late to stop the process I watched her make it and seen the liquid coming out beige at best. I actually thought she was running a cleaning of the machine, because the color just wasn't the color even a blond roast would be. I mentioned it looked light, to which she replied it's not light it's black coffee it's dark. Well I took my sip, left a dollar tip and left the coffee on the counter. With the myriad of cafes in Brooklyn these days, I would have been better with mud from the bodega.

I ordered the Journey to Baku salad, the Turkish bread, and the Guru Khingal. The salad needed a pinch of salt, but there was a shaker on the table and with that addition, it was a decent refreshing appetizer. It's sort of a spread so I would recommend ordering some bread to eat with it. The bread came out steaming hot and smelling amazing. It was soft and fluffy on the inside and delicious. I took the extra home and ate it all immediately when I got there. Delicious bread. The Guru Khingal is honestly one of the best things I've ever eaten in New York City. I wasn't sure exactly what to expect, as I have never eaten this type of food before. The tender, handcut pasta seems to be layered with flavorful lamb fat like the most decadent possible buttered noodles and the ground lamb topping is rich and perfectly seasoned. The yogurt sauce gives the dish balance. It's a fairly large portion that could easily be shared between two. I highly recommend this spot, the glowing reviews are not exaggerating at all. I often like to try new and unusual restaurants, and sometimes I enjoy them mostly for the novelty. That was not the case at Village Cafe. My meal here was delicious and I am eager to return, even with the 75 minute commute from north Brooklyn.

I felt like I was inside someone's home and felt welcomed and comfortable. Not loud and well lit. Service (5/5): We came at an off hour during the weekend around 1:30pm there was still around 6 parties dining in. The staff provided good recommendations and good service. When asked for water without any lemon slices, they provided bottled water at no extra cost! Food: (4/5) - rated New York Times top 100 Best Restaurants in New York City in 2025 Every dish came with a small cup of sour cream / Tzatziki based sauce that went with every dish. This was a must and this was mastered very well. Kutaby with chicken and lamb (4/5) - we ordered one each but the lamb was far superior than the chicken. Guru Hingal (4/5) - served in a warmed bowl with a lid in a bed of soft pasta and minced lamb. The pasta reminded me of chow fun (Chinese rice flat noodles) and then some seasoned minced lamb. While overall there were flavors in there, it was still lacked flavors and required to be drowned in the Tzatziki sauces or perhaps a order of table hot sauce. Finally we got the Lamb Lulya Kebab (5/5): this was by far the best dish of the meal! The meat was so wonderfully seasoned throughout, juicy, and complemented well with the rice, onions, and tomato based dip. The wraps themselves were way too small to enjoy using hands so we definitely reconstructed on our plates and attempts with our hands.

They were so delicious - perfectly crispy and not oily at all. The perfect shape too. I don't even like French fries like that but I couldn't stop eating them. They also have fresh bread that was made in house - that was delicious with the eggplant dip that we ordered (afjar). The grill platters were so delicious. Having never tried such delicacies as flija anywhere else before, how could I know if they were being exalted for their own execution or for the dish itself? After trying another interpretation at Arberia, I believe the answer is simply that flija is one of the most delicious savory cakes out there. It's the original Lady M - layers of crepes clearly stacked with copious amounts of butter. I wish the ajvar came with it, but it's worth shelling out a few extra dollars to add a bit of color to the dish.
